Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) and Sean Gordon, both captains when they played basketball for Gettysburg College, traveled to Dublin, Ireland, on Sunday where they will play basketball for Dublin Business School while they earn their MBA. Both also are playing for Eanna in Ireland's Premier League.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Bloomsburg junior James Wilson (Central Bucks South) finished 11th with a time of 21:28 at the Flatlander Rag Relays hosted by Mansfield University on Friday. Tim Silverthorn (Council Rock South) was 16th with a time of 22:07, and Alex Moran (Pennridge) was 17th with a time of 22:13.
La Salle senior Chris Trimble (North Penn) finished in 33rd place with a time of 20:38.2 at the Lehigh Invite on Friday. Sophomore Chris Berry (Central Bucks West) finished 43rd with a time of 21:22.7, and sophomore Chris Leconey (North Penn) placed 61st with a time of 24:57.5.
Shippensburg sophomore Alex Balla (Quakertown) placed 15th with a time of 19:57 in Friday’s Sixth Annual Galen Piper Alumni Open/Cross Country Challenge. It was the alumni, behind race champion Sean Stetler (Quakertown), edging the Raiders in the annual event. Stetler is a 2011 graduate of Shippensburg.
Two-time NEAC champion Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) kicked off the season with a first place finish out of 11 runners with a time of 24:06 in the Lions Night Run on Friday. Billy Donovan (Upper Moreland) crossed the line in second place with a time of 25:53. Alek Clementson (William Tennent) recorded a 26:48 finish.
Sophomore Austin Cooper (Upper Merion) finished in fifth place at the Doug Watts Distance Gala on the 8K course in Edinboro. IUP earned the team victory.
Ursinus freshman Evan Cirafesi (Upper Merion) finished 14th with a time of 19:04.9 at the Bryn Mawr Invitational at Rose Tree Park on Tuesday. There was no team scoring.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State senior captain Tori Gerlach (Pennridge) led the women to a perfect score of 15 for the seventh
consecutive year at the Dolan Duals in Lock Haven. The Pennridge grad, a first time participant in the event, claimed the women’s individual title with her final time of 14:00.98. The women’s team swept the first through fifth place scoring spots.
Elizabethtown sophomore Kelsey Brady (Council Rock South), the Landmark’s Outdoor Rookie of the Year, placed 20th with a time of 15:43 at the Galen E. Piper XC Challenge at Shippensburg University on Friday. Elizabethtown won the meet for the second time in four years, placing all five runners in the top 20.
Bloomsburg’s Katie Dodds (Upper Dublin) took top honors at the Flatlander Rag Relays against Mansfield University, posting a time of 14:44. Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) was second in 15:15 while Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) was fifth for the Huskies and sixth overall with a time of 16:03. Bloomsburg defeated Mansfield 16-39.

Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Emily Makara (Council Rock South) finished 14th with a time of 23:45 at the CSAC Preview Meet at McDade Park in Scranton on Saturday. Brittany Finn (Upper Moreland) was 19th with a time of 24:04.
Kutztown freshman Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) ran well in her college debut, placing seventh with a time of 19:32 at the 5K Dutchmen Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College on Saturday. Kutztown finished second as a team.
Ursinus freshman Riley Engel (Council Rock South) finished third overall with a time of 21:00 at the Bryn Mawr Invitational at Rose Tree Park on Tuesday. Junior Sam Innes (Hatboro-Horsham) was 30th with a time of 24:30.2.
Messiah junior Natalie Ross (Souderton) finished 14th with a time of 20:29.85 at the Light Up the Night Invitational hosted by Dickinson College on Tuesday.
FIELD HOCKEY
Quinnipiac senior Meghan McCullough (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named an All-MAAC preseason selection.
The PW graduate will anchor a group of returning midfielders. Last year she scored three goals while moving between forward and midfield. This All-MAAC honor is the first in McCullough’s career.
Alayna Brown (Souderton) contributed an assist in West Chester’s 4-2 win over Stonehill on Saturday.
Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) combined with teammate Christina Fabiano for a shutout in goal in The College of New Jersey’s 7-0 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday.
Sophomore Rachael Mueller (William Tennent) contributed a goal and an assist in Temple’s 9-0 win over Towson last Sunday. It represented the largest margin of victory for the field hockey team in 25 years.
Maggie Walsh (Central Bucks South) and Sarah Yerk (Pennridge) each scored a goal, and Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) contributed a pair of assists in Gwynedd Mercy’s 4-3 loss at Alvernia on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 4-3 double overtime loss to Misericordia, O’Neill scored a goal.
Colleen McCabe (William Tennent) and Rachel Valentine (Souderton) each scored a goal in Lock Haven’s 2-1 win over Ohio University last Sunday. McCabe scored on a penalty corner with 2:13 remaining in the first half, using a Valentine assist. After Ohio knotted the score, Valentine scored her second goal of the season to put Lock Haven up 2-1 in the 56th minute when she redirected a McCabe pass into the cage. In Lock Haven’s 3-0 win over William & Mary on Aug. 28, Valentine scored a goal. Goalie Maddie Wagenfeld (Hatboro-Horsham) was credited with a pair of saves in the shutout. Defensively, McCabe helped to lead the charge.
Sophomore Megan Hamilton (Central Bucks South) registered a defensive save in Providence’s 1-0 loss to 14th-ranked Michigan on Friday.
Junior Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) scored a goal in Lehigh’s 6-3 loss at Monmouth on Friday. Coach
Stacey Eversley lauded the strong offensive performance of Tofig in the loss. In last Sunday’s 3-1 win over Davidson, Tofig scored a goal. A forward, Tofig was named a preseason All-Patriot League honoree. The CR North grad is coming off an impressive sophomore campaign that saw her tally a team-high eight goals and 17 points. Tofig’s point total in 2014 was tied for sixth most in the league as she was named second team All-Patriot League. She tallied three game-winning goals and had two multi-goal games. Tofig was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week in late September after scoring a goal against Holy Cross and following that with two goals versus Sacred Heart a day later.
Sophomore Carlie Baldus (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a pair of goals, and senior Taylor Prichett (William
Tennent) assisted on three goals in Delaware Valley’s 3-0 win over Elmira College on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 2-1 non-conference win over Neumann University, Prichett scored both goals, moving into third place on Delaware Valley’s all-time list for both goals and points. Baldus contributed an assist on the first goal. Freshman Aimee MacFarland (Souderton) also had a key defensive save late in the game. Prichett, a 2013 all-conference honoree, has led the team in scoring in each of the last two years, and with her two-goal performance, she broke a tie with Kristen Cottman (2001-04) for third place in points and passed her for the third spot in goals. She now has 39 goals and 93 points.
Emily Cliggett (Central Bucks South) and Kayla Kenny (Central Bucks South) each scored a goal in Villanova’s 6-1 win over Ball State on Friday.
Junior Dana Adamson (Central Bucks South) had a pair of goals and junior Alyssa Buckley (Springfield) contributed an assist in Widener’s 8-0 win over Immaculata on Friday. In Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Swarthmore, Adamson scored a goal.
FOOTBALL
Freshman Josh Adams (Central Bucks South) scored a touchdown on his first collegiate carry, taking it in from 14 yards out with 1:02 remaining in the first quarter of Notre Dame’s 38-3 rout of Texas in front of more than 80,000 fans. Later, Adams scored on a 25-yard run. The CB South graduate finished the night with 49 yards and two touchdowns on five carries.
Ralph Reeves (North Penn) had a team high 10 tackles, including a pair of tackles for a loss and one sack, in No. 22 West Chester’s 41-28 loss to No. 9 Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday night. Andrew Cohen (Council Rock South) had seven stops, including one sack, while Kevin Duggan (Central Bucks West) had six tackles and Kavon Johnson (Plymouth Whitemarsh), five tackles.
Kip Patton (Norristown) had a pair of receptions for 29 yards in Temple’s 27-10 upset of Penn State on Saturday. The win represented Temple’s first over Penn State since 1941.
Craig Reynolds (Abington) had a big opening game for his career as a Golden Bear in Kutztown’s 41-37 loss to Assumption College on Saturday, making an impact motioning from his position at running back into a slot receiver’s role. The redshirt freshman had a game-high 12 catches for 115 yards. He also had a solo tackle. It is the third straight year that a KU freshman has led the team with 10 or more catches in the season opener. Jalen Nieves (Bensalem) was credited with five tackles, two solo, and Adam Krauter (Springfield) had four.
Redshirt senior Rasheed Johnson (Norristown) contributed 11 tackles and an interception in Millersville’s 17-9 five-overtime loss to Ursinus College on Thursday.
Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) hauled in a 38-yard touchdown pass in Shippensburg’s 64-14 win over Seton Hill on Saturday.
Junior running back Corey Kelly (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored two touchdowns – both in extra periods – in Ursinus College’s 17-9 win over Millersville in five overtimes on Thursday. Kelly scored on runs of four and 10 yards, the last coming in the fifth overtime to give the Bears the win. Required to go for two after the second overtime, Ursinus converted a two-point conversion from quarterback Sal Bello to sophomore wide receiver Carmen Fortino (Upper Merion). Senior Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) accounted for the other score, a 34-yard field goal in the first overtime. Fortino finished with a team-high 74 yards on four receptions while Kelly had 50 yards rushing.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Recent Middlebury graduate Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) was recognized for her efforts in the classroom
by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) as she was named an All-American Scholar following the conclusion of the 2014-15 year. She was among 758 women’s collegiate golfers across all three NCAA divisions to earn the prestigious honor in 2015. To make the list, a player must maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and play a minimum of 12 competitive rounds. In early December, Glatt was named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference’s Fall All-Academic Team.
MEN’S SOCCER
Austin Transue (Neshaminy) scored the game’s only goal in the 93rd minute to lead Bloomsburg to a 1-0 win over New York Institute of Technology on Saturday. The game winning shot was the second of the overtime session with Mike Bamford (Central Bucks West) also getting a shot in the extra period. In Thursday’s 5-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas, Bamford’s throw-in set up the first goal of the game. Transue and Stephen Pieri (Central Bucks South) each added a goal. Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem) assisted on Pieri’s goal.
Senior Joe Farrell (Wissahickon) headed in a corner kick in the 55th minute to propel La Salle to 1-0 win over Loyola in the home opener on Monday night. Farrell, a forward, was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference team. The Wissahickon graduate earned A-10 All-Conference Second Team and MSCAA All-Region Third Team selections following his junior season. He paced the Explorers with seven goals and 18 points while ranking in the top 10 in the A-10 in both categories.
Freshman midfielder Alex Kardos (Pennsbury) assisted on a goal in East Stroudsburg’s 3-0 win over Shepherd on Thursday.
Junior goalie Tyler Afflerbach (Souderton) was credited with four saves in Drexel’s 2-0 loss to Rhode Island. All four of his saves came in a first half that saw URI hold a 10-4 advantage in shots but held just a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Junior Richard Domico (Neshaminy) recorded his second goal of the season and also added an assist in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 win over Delaware Valley on Thursday night. Chris Van Pelt (Central Bucks West) assisted on a goal. In Tuesday’s 6-2 loss to St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Domico scored his first goal of the season.
Senior Ben Marks (Central Bucks East) contributed an assist in Lafayette’s 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday.

Junior Carly Black (Hatboro-Horsham) anchors a West Virginia defense that recorded its fourth consecutive shutout in Sunday’s 8-0 win over Villanova. The shutout was the fifth of the season for the No. 11/12 Mountaineers.
Haley Mangiaruga (North Penn) connected on a pair of first half goals to lead West Chester to a 2-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. It was the same offensive output the junior put together in last year’s game against the Mountain Lions.In Thursday’s 3-0 win over PSAC rival Bloomsburg, Mangiaruga scored in the second half.
Freshman Grace Bendon (Central Bucks West) recorded a pair of serves and earned the shutout win in St. Joseph’s 2-0 victory over Rider on Sunday afternoon. In last Sunday’s 4-2 win over Sacred Heart, freshman Michaela Finneyfrock (Council Rock North) tallied her first collegiate goal. In St. Joe’s 2-1 overtime loss to Northeastern, Bendon had a game-high six saves in her collegiate debut.
Grace Miorelli (Souderton) contributed a goal and two assists in Cedarville’s 5-0 win over Urbana on Thursday.
Freshman Brianna Rock (Bensalem) scored the game’s lone goal in Holy Family’s 1-0 win over crosstown rival Philadelphia University on Thursday. Rock scored the first goal of her collegiate career from 18 yards out.

Junior midfielder Jeannie Jasinski (Pennridge) scored her team’s lone goal in Ursinus College’s 2-1 loss to Ithaca on the second day of the Profs Soccer Classic hosted by Rowan University on Saturday. In Friday’s 4-0 loss to Shenandoah, Jaskinski, junior Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) and sophomore Stephanie Donahue (Neshaminy) each scored a goal.
Megan Schafer (Neshaminy) tallied a pair of goals in No. 6 Penn State’s 4-2 win over Arkansas last Sunday. In Penn State’s 4-2 win over Loyola Marymount on August 23, Schafer contributed a goal. Her goal came in the 63rd minute when Schafer and an LMU defender went one-on-one in the box, and Schafer broke away from the defender and beat the keeper for the first goal of 2015.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) recorded a team-high 13 kills in Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to Wilmington University (Del.) on Saturday. Later in the day in KU’s 3-0 sweep of Elkins College, Stringer hit .500 and tallied 14 kills. Stringer continues to climb up the ranks in the record books. She now ranks eighth all-time at KU with 798 kills. Additionally, dating back to last season, she has recorded double-digit kills in seven consecutive contests and in 18 of her last 23 matches. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Adelphi University, Stringer recorded a team-high 12 kills and five blocks.
Senior setter Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) handed out 50 assists in Cabrini’s 3-1 win over Swarthmore at the Haverford/Swarthmore College Invitational on Saturday. Emily Shannon (Upper Merion) added 16 digs. Cabrini also downed SUNY New Paltz 3-2 with Shannon contributing 13 digs. Koenig fell five assists shy of a career high with 54 helpers on the night. In Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Haverford College, Koenig controlled the offense with 46 assists to go with 11 digs.
Freshman Candyce Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) had a team-high 13 digs in Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Bowie State on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Ursuline, freshman Kelly Bergen (Pennridge) led the team with 14 digs.
Freshman libero Catherine Zhusma (William Tennent) contributed 20 digs in Penn State Abington’s split at Saturday’s tri-match against Centenary (0-3) and Manhattanville (3-0). In Friday’s split in a tri-match against Penn College (3-1) and King’s College (0-3), freshman Maddi Richards (William Tennent) came up with 24 digs, 10 kills and three service aces. In Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Arcadia, Zhushma led the Lions with 23 digs.
Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) tallied 10 kills in 12th-ranked Eastern University’s 3-0 win over Dickinson and added 13 kills and five blocks in Eastern’s 3-0 win over Stevens Tech to claim the title in the Greyhound Premiere Tournament on Saturday.
Melanie Phifer (Upper Dublin) had 11 digs in Lebanon Valley’s 3-2 win over Rochester on the final day of the Cortland Red Dragon Classic Saturday. In Lebanon Valley’s 3-1 win over SUNY Genesco on Saturday, Phifer had 16 digs.
Freshman Eryn Brady (Upper Merion) contributed 10 kills with zero errors in 30 attempts as she hit .333 for the match in York College's first day of competition at the Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg on Friday. Brady also contributed an ace, three block assists and eight digs. York fell to Neumann 3-2 and then absorbed a 3-0 loss to Geneva.
