National Conference
PENNSBURY 3, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 2 (25-14, 25-14, 23-25, 21-25, 15-10)
Coach Michael Falter called Thursday’s match between the perennial conference powers ‘your typical Pennsbury-North match,’ although there was nothing to suggest it would be after the Falcons rolled to wins in the first two sets. The never-say-die Indians won the next two sets before falling in the third.
“The first two sets we played really well – we played really, really consistent,” Falter said. “North had a good amount of unforced errors, a good amount of service errors, and we didn’t have many unforced errors at all, and that’s why the scores of the first two games were a little lopsided.
“They settled in in games three and four and played a lot better, and we tightened up a little when they started playing better and didn’t rely on the fundamentals that allowed us to be successful in the first two games.
“The third game was back and forth. If you blow a team out the first two games and lose the third game, it starts to creep in that they only needed one more set to force a fifth set. I think we started to get in our heads a little, and we didn’t take care of the ball as much.”
The Falcons opened up a quick 3-1 lead in game five and never trailed.
“Our setter, Kate Foley, who is a lefty, came up big with two attacks from the front row,” Falter said. “It was 10-8, and she put a ball away to make it 11-8 and then she put another ball away to make it 12-8.
“Once she put that first ball away, I had a pretty good feeling. We relied back on our fundamentals and basics, and we started to play with a little more energy. They pulled it together, they played as a team, and they won as a team. It was a great win.”
Elle Patterson had 20 kills to lead a Falcons’ attack that finished the night with 51 kills. Julia Vreeswyk also was in double digits with 12 kills while Kate Foley had nine.
“Elle and Julia came up big at the end, but they came up big all night,” Falter said. “Our middles, Jess Leventry and Kayla Haddad, did a great job of drawing up their middle block, and Ali (Zinnen), our opposite, is a consistent player. She keeps the ball in play no matter what. Our libero (Dagny Gould) was all over the place. It was definitely a team win.”
Zinnen and Sydney French each had five aces while Gould and Foley had three each. Defensively, Gould led the way with 15 digs. Patterson and Zinnen had eight each, and Foley had seven. Patterson had a pair of blocks.

The young Panthers got in the win column on Thursday, sweeping the host Tigers. Sophomore Nicole Long had 10 kills and eight aces to lead the way while Alexandria Dakota Koppany had 17 assists and three aces.
“It was a nice all-around performance by our girls against an improved Truman team,” coach Brian Bassler said.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-11)
Sparked by their strong serving game, the Golden Hawks rolled to a sweep of the Owls. Hannah Sullivan led the way with six aces and one block. Elaina Budny and Grace Laggan each had five aces, and Hannah Devlin added four aces.
