PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, UPPER MORELAND 2
After outscoring their last four opponents by a combined 26-3 score, the Colonials found themselves in a rare tight contest.
“We had to come from behind twice,” coach Marianne Paparone said. “It was a weird game.
“First of all, we haven’t had a stroke called all year, and there were three called today. It was just one of those days where everything was kind of weird.”
Jess Flanagan put the Golden Bears on the scoreboard just over four minutes into the game, but with 6:10 remaining in the half, Sam Spera (Kennedy Reardon assist) assist) connected for the Colonials to knot the score at halftime.
“We let in a really (bad) goal early in the game, which unfortunately we have done a lot this year,” Paparone said. “Even when we’ve been blowing teams out, we give away a goal.
“My kids lost their composure a little bit. They played a little nervous for some reason. A lot of kids didn’t have their best day, but we just battled. It’s also been pretty tough because we’ve won easily a bunch of games in a row. So when you haven’t played defense and you haven’t really been tested and you’ve been able to do whatever you want and now you’re playing a team that has some skill, that has some game sense, and definitely some speed, you’re like, ‘Oh, now I really have to play.’”
Delaney Smith converted a penalty stroke early in the second half to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 lead, but seven minutes later, Frankie O’Brien returned the favor, connecting on a stroke to knot the score 2-2 with 20:50 remaining in regulation. Reardon scored the game winner with 4:57 remaining.
“It was raining on and off the whole game, and that always makes it more of a challenge,” Paparone said. “Upper Moreland was a better team than we’ve played in a long time.
“They’re better skilled, plus teams are coming after us. We’re the defending champs, we beat them the first time. You go through the schedule a second time, and it’s harder. They had nothing to lose and everything to gain, so they were definitely fired up, they definitely played hard. You beat them on a tackle, and they were right back in it, and that’s hard.”
Upper Moreland’s Allison Felicetti was credited with six saves, including a stop of a penalty stroke. UM’s Chloe Tice had a goal line save in the first half. PW goalie Clair McAllister had three saves in the win.
The Colonials held an advantage in shots (2-10) and corners (8-4).
Plymouth Whitemarsh (7-2, 7-1 SOL) will travel to Upper Merion on Tuesday, and Upper Moreland (6-4, 5-3) will host New Hope-Solebury in a non-league game Monday before hosting Wissahickon on Tuesday.

Siegel’s second goal midway through the second half was followed by a Jess Grodsky goal (Elizabeth Barber assist), and the Cardinals led 6-0 before Brihanna McIntyre (Delzayah Culbreath assist) scored with 2:22 remaining to break up the Cardinals’ shutout bid. A goal by UD’s Lauren Kintzley closed out the scoring.

Tegan Dorley made five saves in the second half to secure the shutout win for the Lady Panthers.

NORTH PENN 1, CENTRAL BUCKS 0
It was another day, another one-goal win for the Maidens, who earned their fifth straight one-goal win after opening the season with four straight losses.
“It’s crazy,” coach Shannon McCracken said. “These one-goal games – I swear I’m going to have gray hair by the end of the season.”
Freshman Emily Crawford came off the bench and picked the perfect time to score her first high school goal – connecting on a rebound during corner play with time expired in the first half.
“She’s a kid we think has a bright future,” McCracken said. “She’s fast, she has good stick skills, and she happened to be subbed in, and she was in the right place at the right time.
“There was no time on the clock, we got the shot off, and she got a rebound off the goalkeeper’s pads and put it right in. I was impressed that as a freshman, Emily didn’t react to the horn being blown to indicate the end of the half. It was very mature of her.”
That 1-0 lead held the rest of the way, and for the Maidens, the win avenged an early season 2-1 loss to the Titans.
“It was a great win,” McCracken said. “What’s exciting about going through the second half is we’ve improved dramatically since the first time we saw CB South.
“Every team has improved when you see teams in the second half, but it’s nice to see a team the first time and make some adjustments and know what to expect the second time, although a lot of it went out the window tonight because of the rain.
“The girls were just tough. We had really great possession passes tonight, and we did a nice job of keeping the field wide.”
Both teams collected six corners, but the Maidens held an 11-5 advantage in shots. South goalie Sarah Zeszotarski negated that advantage with seven saves. North Penn’s Brynne Schoppe recorded five saves in the shutout win.
“Their goalkeeper came up with a few big saves,” McCracken said. “They had a penalty corner towards the end of the game, and it was a nice shot, and Brynne came up with a big save.”
North Penn (5-4, 5-3 SOL) will host Upper Dublin in a non-league contest Friday and then will host Central Bucks East in a key conference showdown Tuesday. Central Bucks South (3-5-1, 3-3-1) will host Hatboro-Horsham on Tuesday.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 2, SOUDERTON 1 (OT)
Kelsey Hopkins converted a penalty stroke into a goal with 6:20 remaining in overtime to propel the visiting Hatters to the dramatic win.
“It was an excellent game,” coach Laura Swezey said. “Both teams had excellent transition down the field with plenty of shots on goal.”
The game winner was set up after Syd Rausa found herself on a breakaway and a 1v1 with the goalie. The play began with a pass out of the back by Kaitlyn Wallace to Kelsey Hopkins to Rausa.
Earlier in overtime, Hatter goalie Liz Wilburn had a pair of key saves to preserve the tie.
Swezey credited the consistent pressure defense of Ally Lavery, Keeley Henry, Kaitlyn Wallace, Brenna Reilley and Wilburn.
“Ally Lavery had a key defensive save in the second half,” Swezey said. “She was positioned perfectly inside the post.”
Early on, it was the Indians taking a 1-0 lead when Rachel Kagarise (Nina Disco assist) scored during a scramble in front of the cage during corner play. Rausa connected for the equalizer on a reverse sweep into the right corner of the cage.
Wilburn finished with nine saves in a winning effort, and Souderton’s Megan Mehaffey also had nine saves.
The Indians held an edge in corners (11-9) and a 17-10 advantage in shots.
Thursday's win avenged an early season 5-2 loss at the hands of the Indians and snapped a four-game losing streak for the Hatters.
"For the girls, it was important to win because we have had three games that we lost by one goal that could have gone either way, but today we stepped up to the plate, and the end result was a win," Swezey said.
Hatboro-Horsham (4-7, 3-5 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks South on Tuesday, and Souderton (3-5-1, 1-5-1) will travel to Quakertown on Tuesday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 4, PENNRIDGE 2
The visiting Lady Rams got on the scoreboard first when Sydney Borneman found the back of the cage just over five minutes into the contest. The Patriots scored a pair of goals in the final seven minutes of the half to go into halftime with a 2-1 lead. Abbey Butler (Riley Donnelly assist) scored the tying goal, and Cailey Lever (Butler assist) scored the go-ahead goal.
“Pennridge, to their credit, came out of the block quickly and scored in the first six minutes of the game on a corner,” East coach Michelle Finegan said. “East took control of the game after that with possession and was able to capitalize with two goals to take the 2-1 lead at the half.
“Freshman Cailey Lever’s goal with Riley Donnelly’s assist was really pretty with a one-time reverse pop off the left post.”
Butler connected with her second goal seven minutes into the second half, and when Donnelly scored (Reilly Finegan assist), the Patriots led 4-1 with 21:53 remaining. Borneman scored her second goal with just over 12 minutes remaining for the 4-2 final.
East held a decided advantage in shots (13-5) and corners (16-5).
Finegan lauded the performance of Butler.
“Abbey Butler showed great hustle and fight to lead the team with two goals and an assist,” the Patriots’ coach said. “(We) missed a handful of opportunities during the contest, which kept the score close, but Pennridge goalkeeper Carley Wingate was very strong in goal for them.”
Wingate was credited with nine saves.
Central Bucks East (8-1, 6-1 SOL) will host Gwynedd Mercy on Friday and then William Tennent on Monday in back-to-back non-league contests before taking on North Penn in a key showdown on Tuesday. CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, QUAKERTOWN 0
In a game that was a far cry from the initial meeting between the two teams that saw the Bucks open up a 7-1 halftime lead on their way to an 8-3 win, the Panthers found themselves on the short end of a 2-0 score at the intermission this time around. Taylor Mason accounted for both of her team’s goals.
“Both times Cadera Smith drove hard into the circle to draw the defense, and she was able to dish off to a wide open Mason, who finished beautifully,” West coach Courtney Lepping said. “It was a well-played game on both sides as teams dealt with the rain and cold conditions.
“Quakertown’s goalie, Rylee Lawler, had several huge saves to keep the score close.”
Bryn Boylan connected for a second half goal at the 17:58 mark of the second half to close out the scoring.
“It took a beautiful individual effort by Bryn Boylan to finally put one home,” Lepping said. “Emily Halderson had several near misses as she was working hard in her efforts to score.
“Cadera Smith was the driving force all game as she continued to feed her teammates and create scoring opportunities.”
Macella Molenari was credited with five saves in her first shutout of the season in goal for the Bucks.
Quakertown coach Diane Molinaro had only good things to say about her team’s effort.
“CB West has a lot of talent and a deep bench with the majority of the team playing club hockey throughout the year,” said the Panthers’ coach, who has a roster of 18 and five players out with injuries. “We knew we had to execute the game plan and start out strong from the first whistle.
“Taylor Mason had two nice goals in the first half, and after we made a few adjustments, we were able to contain her. We improved tremendously from the first matchup and shut down the CB West attack effectively.
“I am very proud of how well the girls played as a team and stepped up to play quality hockey for 60 minutes. Each player is growing in confidence and ability, and I am so happy how far our team has progressed this season. CB West is a great opponent and we enjoy competing against them.”
Central Bucks West (8-0, 7-0 SOL) will travel to Neshaminy on Friday for a key non-league contest and then will be on the road at Council Rock South Monday before travelling to Pennridge on Tuesday. Quakertown (3-9, 1-7) will host Souderton on Tuesday.
