PENNRIDGE 17, NESHAMINY 7
The Rams overcame the elements to earn a big road win at Heartbreak Ridge on Saturday night, turning in an impressive defensive effort and twice capitalizing on a short field in the second half.
Neither team generated a whole lot of offense in a first half that saw the Rams take a 3-0 lead into the intermission, thanks to a 21-yard field goal by Matt Mauer in the closing seconds.
Neshaminy erased that deficit early in the second half when Denzel Hughes got behind the Rams’ defense and took a Mason Jones pass 74 yards for a touchdown that put the ‘Skins on top 7-3.
A fumble recovery by the Rams on the Neshaminy 33-yard line set up the go-ahead score. The short drive included a key Devon Balmer to Randy Cuthbert completion, and it was Balmer taking it in on a quarterback sneak. After Mauer’s extra point, the Rams led 10-7.
The key moment in the game came early in the fourth quarter when the Rams came up with a defensive stop on fourth-and-inches at the Redskins’ 37-yard line. The Rams overcame a holding call that set up a second-and-17 on a series of downs that included Balmer gaining positive yardage on a broken play. Judens Desrosiers followed his own nine-yard run by punching it in from the two-yard line with 6:36 remaining to all but seal the Redskins’ fate.
On the Redskins’ ensuing possession, the Rams came up with back-to-back sacks, but on fourth-and-17 from their own 15, Jones found Zach Treadway for a first down. That late drive ended when Riley Hager came up with an interception to put an exclamation mark on the big road win for the Rams.
Pennridge (3-2, 1-1 SOL) will travel to Abington on Friday night, and Neshaminy (3-2, 1-1) will travel to Central Bucks South.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 53, WILLIAM TENNENT 0
The Indians scored early and often on their way to the no-doubt-about-it win that upped their Continental Conference record to 2-0. While their offense was unstoppable, the Indians’ defense limited the Panthers to less than 150 yards of total offense.
Early in the opening quarter, Brandon McIlwain found Tyler Nowmos with an eight-yard touchdown pass, and the Indians were off an running. Seth Leuz turned a Tennent fumble into a touchdown, and the remarkable Rock North first-half run culminated when McIlwain found Devon Bibbens with a five-yard TD pass that put the Indians – who led 26-0 after one quarter – on top 40-0.
The Indians – substituting freely – added 13 points in a second half that saw the mercy rule in effect.
Nowmos and Bibbens combined for four touchdowns and 161 receiving yards. McIlwain threw for 190 yards and four touchdowns – all in the opening half.
Council Rock North (3-2, 2-0 SOL) will host Norristown next Saturday, and William Tennent (3-2, 0-2) will be on the road at Central Bucks East on Saturday.
