MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Conner Quinn (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a time of 24:35.07 to finish 28th at the Greater Louisville Classic and finishing first for Penn State. The Nittany Lions finished eighth as a team.
Sophomore Austin Cooper (Upper Merion) paced IUP with a career-best 24:59 on the 8K course at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on Friday. He finished 52nd overall out of 278 runners. IUP finished in 18th place out of 27 teams, finishing ahead of several Division One schools.
Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) finished 10 seconds short of his personal record and 10th overall with a time of 26:08 at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University Friday. Billy Donovan (Upper Moreland) ran a personal best and finished with a time of 29:04 in 141st overall while freshman Alek Clementson (William Tennent) finished in 175th place overall at 30:06. Penn State Abington finished 24th overall in the White Race against 39 Division III opponents.
La Salle junior Francis Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) ran a 25:24.84 to finish in 105th place and was the third Explorer to cross the finish line at the Greater Louisville Classic. La Salle finished 13th in the team standings. Junior Chris Berry (Central Bucks West) was the fourth La Salle runner to cross the finish line with a time of 25:58 for 158th place at the Paul Short Run on Friday at Lehigh University.
Temple senior Alex Izewski (Central Bucks East) placed 18th in a field of 278 runners at the 42nd annual Paul Short Run on Friday, posting a personal best in the 8k with a time of 24:30. The Owls finished 16th among 27 teams.
Sophomore Alex Balla (Quakertown) had an 8K breakthrough as Shippensburg’s number two runner at the 42nd Annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday. The Quakertown graduate finished fourth with a time of 25:03, posting a 42-second personal best and improving his previous PR at last year’s ECAC Championships. Junior Alec Brand (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 26:19, and freshman Ian Davies (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 27:11.. Shippensburg won the Brown race.
Penn sophomore Ross Wilson (Council Rock North) crossed the finish line with a time of 25:31.2 in 131st place in the Blue Race at the Paul Short Invitational on Friday.
Ursinus College freshman Evan Cirafesi (Upper Merion) posted a time of 14:03 in the 4K at the Long/Short Invitational on Saturday.
James Wilson (Central Bucks South) was fourth for Bloomsburg University and 85th in the field with a time of 27:50 at the Paul Short Invitational on Friday. Freshman Tim Silverthorn (Council Rock South) posted a time of 28:47. The men’s team finished 11th in the White Division.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Tori Gerlach (Pennridge) posted a time of 17:23.33 and finished 24th at the Greater Louisville Classic. No. 19 Penn State finished third overall.
Bloomsburg senior Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) was second for BU and 13th overall with a time of 21:51 at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Friday. Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) was fourth for the Huskies in 87th place in 22:48 while Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) was 94th in 22:55. Bloomsburg finished second in the Brown Division.
La Salle freshman Kaitlin Poiesz (Central Bucks South) turned in a top 100 time to lead the Explorers to a 24th place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. Poiesz ran a time of 18:07.16 on the 5k course to finish in 98th place and earn 86 points towards the team score.
Shippensburg freshmen Lindsey Gerlach (Pennridge) and Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) posted times of 23:53 and 23:55 respectively at the 42nd Annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Friday. The Raiders finished 11th in the Brown race. Sophomore Sarah Latch (Central Bucks East) ran a 24:07 in the Open race while freshman Abbie Todd (Council Rock North) improved her 6K time to 24:36. Junior Gabby Brackett (Bensalem) completed the 6k course in 24:49.
Elizabethtown’s Kelsey Brady (Council Rock South) finished 54th with a time of 23:09.8 at the 37th Annual Geneseo Mike Woods XC Invitational on Saturday. It was the team’s first crack at the 6,000-meter distance this season, and all five point scorers came through with new personal bests as the Blue Jays took sixth in the team standings with 174 points.
Kutztown freshman Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) was the second fastest runner for KU at the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, finishing in 114th place in a season-best time of 23:03. Sophomore Olivia Dettore (Central Bucks West) finished in 184th place with a time of 23:41.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Brittany Finn (Upper Moreland) was second on the team with a time of 25:23 (121st overall) for an average mile of 6:48 at the Paul Short Invitational on Friday. The time was 18 seconds faster than her 6k last weekend. Sophomore Emily Makara (Council Rock South) was 141st overall with a time of 25:47 (average mile 6:54).
Moravian junior Sarah Hughes (Souderton) posted a time of 22:58 at the Paul Short Invitational Women’s Brown 6000- meter race on Friday. Hughes ran over 20 seconds faster than she had earlier in the season on the same course.
FIELD HOCKEY
Villanova senior forward Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) was selected to the BIG EAST Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Sept. 30. The Wildcats were 2-0 last weekend, defeating Siena and Towson. In Villanova’s 5-0 win over Siena, Kenney had three assists. In the Wildcats 5-1 win over Towson, Kenney scored a team high two goals and added an assist.
Freshman Katie Bagdon (Council Rock South) scored her first collegiate goal in Drexel’s 3-2 win over Lafayette on Monday.
Colleen McCabe (William Tennent) scored a goal in Lock Haven’s 2-1 win over first place Davidson in an Atlantic 10 Conference game on Sunday. Maddie Wagenfeld (Hatboro-Horsham) delivered a pair of saves in the final minutes of play.
Freshman Natalie Mitchell (Norristown) scored her first collegiate goal in Providence’s 5-2 loss to Dartmouth on Sunday. In Friday’s 4-1 win over Georgetown, sophomore Megan Hamilton (Central Bucks South) scored a pair of goals, and freshman Corinne Kenney (Central Bucks South) added a single goal. In last Sunday’s 4-2 win over Fairfield, Kenney scored a goal.
Lauren Becker (Wissahickon) scored a second-half goal to lead No. 9 Stanford to a 1-0 win over UMass last Sunday.
Kristin Donohue (Council Rock South) had a pair of assists in Messiah College’s 3-1 win over No. 13 Mary Washington on Wednesday.
Muhlenberg sophomore Emma Rosenthal (Central Bucks East) was named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 30. Rosenthal made a career-high five saves to record the shutout as the Mules moved to 3-0 in the Centennial Conference for the first time since 2007 with a 1-0 win at Johns Hopkins. Two of her saves came just seconds apart in the second half with the Mules clinging to a one-goal lead. For the season, Rosenthal leads the CC with 0.33 goals-against average in three starts.
Sophomore Carlie Baldus (Hatboro-Horsham) and sophomore Kara Imes (North Penn) each scored a goal in Delaware Valley’s 4-3 win over Manhattanville on Saturday. Senior Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) added an assist.
Jess Tennett (Pennridge) helped anchor a defensive effort that allowed just four shots in Cabrini’s 7-0 win over Moravian on Wednesday.
Rachel Gorman (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist in Lebanon Valley’s 2-1 win over Misericordia on Wednesday.
Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) recorded her second solo shutout of the season without facing a shot in The College of New Jersey’s 3-0 win at Stockton University on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 4-1 road win at Manhattanville, Schlupp earned the win between the pipes to raise her individual record to 7-0.
Senior Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) had a goal and two assists in Gwynedd Mercy’s 10-0 win over Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday. Sophomore Abigail Gabriel (Souderton) added a goal.
FOOTBALL
Steve Gozur (North Penn) had six tackles, including 1.5 for a loss, in Widener’s 27-7 win over Wilkes University on Saturday. Alex Krivda (Pennridge) came off the bench and completed 4-of-6 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Senior wide receiver Gerard Wendowski (North Penn) had 10 catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-tying score in the second OT, in East Stroudsburg’s 69-67 loss in five overtimes to Shippensburg on Saturday night.
Brandon Shippen (Norristown) had two carries for 20 yards, and Kip Patton (Norristown) had one reception for nine yards in Temple’s 37-3 win at Charlotte on Saturday.
Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) caught two passes – both for touchdowns – for 69 yards in Shippensburg’s 69-67 five-overtime win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
Senior Josh Cook (North Penn) notched seven tackles and a sack in Lycoming’s 41-38 overtime loss to Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
Senior kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) made a 36-yard field goal in Ursinus College’s 31-3 loss to Moravian on Saturday. Junior running back Corey Kelly (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 10 catches for 61 yards.
Khari Jefferson (Abington) caught a five-yard touchdown pass in 25th-ranked Albright’s 41-13 win over Misericordia on Saturday.
Shannon Mayer (Norristown) hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass in West Chester’s 33-9 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. Ralph Reeves (North Penn) had five tackles, and Andrew Cohen (Council Rock South) had four, including a sack. Zack Hockman (Pennridge) had three tackles, including a sack, and George Shipp (North Penn) also had three tackles.
MEN’S GOLF
Mike Lam (Neshaminy) led both teams as he finished in first place with a 79, plus seven over par, in Penn State Abington’s win over Penn State Berks in a dual match on Wednesday. Junior Sean Ailtmar (Central Bucks South) was tied for third with an 81, and Matt Amey (Upper Dublin) finished in sixth place.
Millersville senior Rodney Anders (Souderton) produced one of the best tournaments of his career, tying for 13th after shooting rounds of 74 and 77 for a 7-over-par total at the Mercyhurst Invitational last Monday. Millersville finished 10th out of 17 teams.
MEN’S SOCCER
Tyler Afflerbach (Souderton) was credited with six saves in Drexel’s 1-0 loss to the College of Charleston on Saturday. The Souderton graduate had a pair of saves just seconds apart in the 78th minute that kept the Dragons in it. A foot save on a low bullet from 12 yards out prevented one of Charleston’s best opportunities. The deflection ended up on the foot of another Cougar forward who could not get much on his shot as Afflerbach was able to reel it in.
Kennedy Betts (Central Bucks West) scored a goal in Penn State Abington’s 2-1 loss in double overtime to Penn State Berks on Wednesday.
Freshman midfielder Alex Kardos (Wissahickon) scored in the 58th minute of East Stroudsburg’s 2-1 loss to California (Pa.) on Friday afternoon.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Sophomore Megan Schafer (Neshaminy) scored her fifth goal of the season, and freshman Marissa Sheva (Pennridge) connected for her second goal of the season in Penn State’s 5-1 win over Iowa last Sunday.
Freshman Brianna Rock (Bensalem) set up the game-winning shot in Holy Family’s 3-2 win over Post University on Saturday. Junior Samantha O’Donnell (Neshaminy) scored her first goal of the season in the 64th minute to jump start the team’s come-from-behind win.
Alyssa Ryan (Wissahickon) scored a goal in the 88th minute, just 29 seconds after a goal by her teammate, to propel Kutztown to a 2-0 win over California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday. It was the third goal of the season for Ryan, who leads the team with three goals and ranks second on the team with six points.
Midfielder Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) scored a goal in Elizabethtown’s 2-0 win over York College on Wednesday.
Kendall Couch (Upper Dublin) contributed an assist on the game’s lone goal in Ursinus College’s 1-0 win over Bryn Mawr on Wednesday.
MEN’S TENNIS
Penn State Abington sophomore Mohammed Ammouni (Bensalem) was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Student-Athlete of the Week for men’s tennis for the week ending Sept. 30. The 2015 NEAC Rookie of the Year winner went 5-1 over the past week in the No. 1 position in singles and doubles. Ammouni swept Arcadia in singles and doubles as he earned a 6-1, 6-2 win and then paired with Justin McNab (Cheltenham) to earn an 8-3 win. He defeated Messiah’s Tim Dunn in singles 6-4, 6-4 and York’s Sam Innerst 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. He also teamed with McNab to earn an 8-4 win in doubles. Ammouni improved his record to 7-1 for the season.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) earned an 8-1 win in singles and was part of an 8-0 win in second doubles in Gwynedd Mercy’s 9-0 win over Summit University on Saturday. Kristen Kriebel (Pennridge) and Jenna Caffarello (North Penn) earned 6-0, 6-0 and 8-0 wins at fifth and sixth singles respectively. The duo paired to earn an 8-1 win at second doubles.
Claire Uhle (Wissahickon) earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at first singles in West Chester’s 5-4 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Freshman Sam Jones (Hatboro-Horsham) had seven digs in Kent State’s 3-0 loss to first-place Ohio on Thursday.
Freshman Eryn Brady (Upper Merion) contributed 16 digs, nine kills, two assists, a service ace and three block assists in York College’s 3-2 win over Wesley College on Wednesday.
Freshman Candyce Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) set a new season-high with 31 digs to go along with six service aces in Holy Family’s 3-1 win over Felician on Saturday. Freshman Jaime Bonner (William Tennent) finished with five kills and three block assists. In Thursday’s 3-0 loss to Philadelphia University, Riley totaled double figures in digs as she led the team with 10. In Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Wilmington University, Riley had 18 digs, and sophomore Cecilia Weir (William Tennent) registered 17.
Senior Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) had 29 assists and seven digs while freshman Emily Shannon (Upper Meiron) recorded seven digs and three service aces in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Centenary on Saturday. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Pratt later in the day, Koenig had 27 assists. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over Widener, Koenig led the team with 32 assists and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Shannon contributed a pair of service aces.
Freshman Maddi Richards (William Tennent) had 18 kills in both matches while Danielle Dyjak (Abington) recorded 26 assists for the day in Penn State Abington’s split with Penn College (3-1) and Penn State Berks (0-3) on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to Lancaster bible College, Richards racked up 17 digs.
Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) had 10 kills in Eastern University’s 3-0 win over Stevenson on Saturday. In Eastern’s 3-0 win over Lebanon Valley later in the day, Elechko continued her dominance with 15 kills.
Melanie Phifer (Upper Dublin) had six digs in Lebanon Valley’s 3-0 loss to No. 10 Eastern University on Saturday.
Junior Liz Gassman (Abington) delivered three kills in a pivotal 7-3 run in Marist’s 3-1 win over Canisius on Saturday. Gassman also led the Red Foxes with three blocks.
Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) had six kills in Kutztown’s 3-0 loss to West Chester on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-0 win over Cheyney, Niki Carpenter (Upper Merion) had six kills.
