PENNRIDGE 2, HATBORO-HORSHAM 1
Carley Wingate turned away 16 shots in an impressive outing in goal, and the Lady Rams needed every one of those saves to eke out the important 2-1 win in a contest that saw the visiting Hatters hold an 18-11 advantage in shots.
“Carley kept us in the game,” coach Becky Spahr said. “I can’t say enough about how much Carley’s play impacts our success.
“Carley makes her numerous saves under pressure look routine. Her growth from last season to this season is what our team needed to find its confidence.”
Freshman Caitlyn Amsden had a hand in both Pennridge goals, assisting on a Jenna Richardson goal and scoring herself on a reverse chip, using a Kellie Drugotch assist.
Senior Syd Rausa scored for the Hatters on the rebound of a goalie save.
While Wingate came up big in goal, senior Meghan Griffin also delivered a defensive save. Hatters’ goalie Liz Wilburn was credited with seven saves.
“It was a very intense game with a lot of back and forth play,” Spahr said. “We came out strong and scored in the first 10 minutes. Then Hatboro-Horsham really turned on the intensity and started fighting their way back.”
