MEN’S BASKETBALL
Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) – after graduating from Gettysburg – was awarded a scholarship to
continue his education and play basketball for Dublin Business School in Ireland. He also signed to play with Eanna BC in the Premier League. In addition to playing for two basketball teams, Poston keeps a rigorous course schedule for his master’s program. He also coaches youth basketball and has taken an expanded role with the college team as captain. Poston will finish his master’s program in May with a final dissertation due in September. After some additional traveling around Europe this spring and summer, he plans to return stateside with MBA in tow. Sophomore Matt Scamuffo (Central Bucks South) scored 23 points and also had five rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in 37 minutes in York College’s 82-72 loss to St. Mary’s College on Wednesday. Scamuffo was 6-for-14 from the floor, 4-for-8 from three and 7-for-10 from the free throw line. His 23 points are one point short of his career high. In Saturday’s 80-60 loss to Christopher Newport, Scamuffo contributed eight second-half points, snapping his streak of three 20-point games in a row.
Freshman Evan Slone (Souderton) contributed 13 points and eight rebounds in Arcadia’s 81-74 win over first place Alvernia on Wednesday.
Sophomore Aaron Burton (Cheltenham) scored 18 points and pulled down six rebounds in DeSales University’s 85-76 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 76-67 win over Wilkes, Burton had eight points and five rebounds.
Wes Brooks (North Penn) scored eight points in McDaniel’s 71-52 win over Haverford on Saturday. He needs just 11 points to reach 1,000 for his career. In Wednesday’s 60-50 win over Johns Hopkins, Brooks recorded 19 points and eight rebounds.
Senior Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored 13 points in Villanova’s 73-63 win over St. John’s on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Luke Moyer (Souderton) finished with a team-best 26 points on 7-of-13 shooting from behind the arc in John Brown University’s 100-82 loss to No. 8 Texas Wesleyan on Thursday.
Senior Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass, in Temple’s 63-58 win over UConn on Thursday night.
Senior Julian Hyden (Bensalem) had a career day in Gwynedd Mercy’s 88-79 win over Immaculata in Saturday’s Senior Day game, registering 32 points and 15 rebounds, both personal highs. Aaron Morgan (Council Rock North) added 17 points. In Wednesday’s 95-80 win at Summit, Hyden scored 30 points, connecting on 10-of-16 from the floor – which included a three-pointer – and going 9-for-14 at the line. His eight rebounds were also a team high.
Freshman guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 20 points – which included four three-pointers – in Moravian’s 98-84 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday. He also had five assists and no turnovers and three rebounds. In Wednesday’s 84-76 win over Drew, Murray scored 20 points, which included a 10-for-10 effort at the foul line. He also had one rebound and one steal.
Julian Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) came off the bench and was a perfect three-for-three from three-point range in Lock Haven’s 94-88 win over Cheyney on Wednesday.
Kutztown University junior Josh Johnson (Norristown) led the Golden Bears to a 2-0 week and into first
place in the PSAC Eastern Division. He was rewarded with the PSAC East Athlete of the Week award for the week ending Feb. 7. This is Johnson’s fifth career Athlete of the Week honor and third this season, the most in the PSAC East. Johnson posted two 20-point games and averaged 22.5 points. He shot 51.9 percent from the field, made 16-of-18 free throws, including a perfect 11-for-11 performance against Lock Haven. He nearly averaged a double-double with 9.5 rebounds per game and added 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. Against Lock Haven, Johnson notched his second straight and eighth double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Against Shippensburg, he finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. This season, Johnson is leading the team with a 14.7 points-per-game average and a career-best 8.7 rebounds per game, fourth in the PSAC. He ranks fifth in the league at 52.6 percent shooting.
Ryan Connolly (Souderton) scored the final nine points of the game in an 11-1 run in Kutztown’s come-from-behind 90-83 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday night. Connolly finished with 19 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 8-for-8 at the free throw line to go along with seven rebounds. Josh Johnson (Norristown) finished with 12 points and eight rebounds and moved into 10th all-time with 443 career field goals and 16th with 1,151 career points. Freshman Anthony Lee (Abington) added 11 points. In Kutztown’s 81-77 overtime loss to Bloomsburg Wednesday, Johnson picked up a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in only 26 minutes of play. Lee added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Connolly had 10 points.
Matt Penecale (Abington) scored 10 points and led the team with five assists in West Chester’s 73-62 win over Mansfield on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 88-83 loss to East Stroudsburg, Penecale contributed 12 points and nine rebounds.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
American University junior forward Lauren Crisler (North Penn) has been voted to the College Sports
Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) Academic All-District women’s basketball team. With her selection to the District 2 first team, Crisler appears on the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition, which will be released early next month. The North Penn graduate carries a 3.92 GPA as a finance major. The only Eagle to start in all 23 games this season, Crisler leads American in scoring and rebounding, averaging 9.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. She also ranks among the Patriot League leaders in rebounding and field goal percentage (.446). This is the first Academic All-District honor for Crisler, who is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection.
Sophomore Kaitlin Kelly (Pennsbury) scored 11 points in DeSales University’s 69-46 win over Wilkes on Wednesday.
Senior Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) scored 13 points in St. Joseph’s 73-59 loss to #24 Duquesne on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 61-51 win over Fordham, Andrews tallied a team-high 16 points with 14 coming in the second half.
Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) contributed six points and seven rebounds in 10th-ranked Albright’s 66-60 Senior Day win over Stevenson on Saturday. She connected on 3-of-4 shots from the field. Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) finished with a double-double for the Lions as she had 12 points and 11 rebounds. In Wednesday’s 65-57 win over Lycoming, Lofton had nine points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Senior Mallory Mugnier (Abington) recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 87-66 win over Cazenovia College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 77-62 win over Penn State Berks, Mugnier recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Freshman Regie Robinson (Upper Merion) scored 18 points in Eastern University’s 73-61 loss to Manhattanville on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 60-52 win over King’s College, Robinson scored 17 points.
Senior Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) had a strong defensive outing with 13 rebounds and three steals in Princeton’s 85-54 win over Columbia on Saturday. She also tied a career high with five assists. In Friday’s 71-51 over Cornell, Wheatley had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Sophomore Allison Gallagher (Souderton) scored 14 points in Widener’s 73-66 loss to Messiah on Saturday.
Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown) scored 13 points in Kutztown’s 77-75 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon.
Junior guard Rachel Falkowski (Central Bucks South) had a career high 14 points in East Stroudsburg’s 77-75 loss to Kutztown on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 85-77 overtime loss to West Chester, Falkowski had 10 points.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
The University of Pittsburgh’s Women’s lacrosse team – WCLA Division 1 – opened its season this weekend in California at the Santa Barbara Shootout Tournament. The team finished the tournament 3-1 with wins against top seeded Texas (11-9), Arizona (18-3) and Santa Clara (10-9) and an overtime loss to Colorado (14-13). Anna Studenmund (Springfield) had 15 points with 13 goals and two assists, Allison Hawkins (Cheltenham) had 12 points on eight goals and four assists, and Julie McKay (Hatboro-Horsham) also had 12 points with seven goals and five assists.
SOFTBALL
Junior Lauren Quense (Neshaminy) contributed an RBI single in Fordham’s 2-1 loss to Stetson on Sunday in Deland, Fla. In Saturday’s 4-0 loss to No. 17 UCF, Quense, scattered nine hits, walked four and struck out three.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Arcadia sophomore Jacob Schellinger (North Penn) was part of the fourth place 200 freestyle relay (1:28.57) at the 2016 MAC Swimming Championships on Saturday. For their performance, the team received second team All-MAC honors. Schellinger placed 10th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.34. On Friday, Schellinger was part of the 400 medley relay that placed fourth with a program record time of 3:33.39 and earned second team All-MAC honors. He finished 10th in the 50 free with a time of 22.24. On Thursday, he was part of the 200 medley relay that finished seventh with a school record time of 1:38.70, which was nearly two full seconds faster than the previous record of 1:40.48 that was set earlier this season.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Senior Kristina Congdon (Pennsbury) won the three-meter diving event with a score of 285.53 in Delaware’s 165-135 loss to Towson.
Elizabethtown senior Rachel Engelhardt (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 12th in the 200 freestyle with a season best time of 2:04.89 at the Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday. On Friday, Engelhardt was part of the sixth place 400 medley relay that posted a time of 4:12.57, over 12 seconds faster than their previous season best.
Lebanon Valley senior Jan Ikeda (North Penn) is the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference Champion of the women’s 100 butterfly. For Ikeda, it is her third 100 fly MAC Championship after the team captain won the event as a junior in 2014 and a freshman in 2012. She swam two NCAA ‘B’ cut times as her title-winning effort of 56.50 was nearly a second faster than the runner-up. In addition to winning gold in the event, Ikeda also earned MAC All-Conference first team recognition.
Junior Jess Wimmer (Souderton) was part of the Lycoming women’s 800 freestyle relay that finished ninth with a time of 8:35.51 at the 2016 MAC Championships on Thursday. Wimmer finished 14th in the 400 IM with a time of 5:09.61.
Marist sophomore Megan Berardelli (Wissahickon) was the top qualifier at 3 meters and had the best final score of 265.45 after six dives on the opening night of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships Thursday. She went on to capture first place at three meters with a score of 296.95. On Friday, Berardelli finished second in the 1-meter event with 254.00 points.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Pitt junior Chris Spadaro (Council Rock South) was named First National Bank Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 7. The CR South graduate, who is having a breakout season, set a personal record in the triple jump with a distance of 14.76m at the Doc Hale VT Elite Meet, which placed him third overall among college participants and fifth overall. He bettered his previous career mark of 14.35, which he set last outdoor season. Spadaro also took fifth place in the long jump at Virginia Tech with a distance of 7.05m. That long jump performance was on the heels of his new PR (7.28m), which he established at Penn State National. On Saturday, Spadaro finished 21st in the 200m dash with a time of 22:40 at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva on Saturday. Jeff Wiseman (Council Rock South) was part of the University of Pennsylvania’s distance-medley team that registered a time of 9:38.81 to break a school record that stood since 2005 at the Fastrack National Invite in Staten Island on Saturday. Ross Wilson (Council Rock North) finished fifth in the 5,000m at the same invitational.
Austin Cooper (Upper Merion) was part of IUP’s distance medley relay that posted a time of 10:03.21 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet, besting the previous record of 10:07.74 set in 2013.
Bloomsburg junior James Wilson (Central Bucks South) posted a PSAC-qualifying time in the 800m with a PR time of 1:58.27 at the Bucknell Tune-Up Meet. Tim Silverthorn (Council Rock South) finished in a time of 2:06.09. Alex Moran (Pennridge) had a run of 9.01 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles.
Widener junior Alex Cucciarre (Souderton) recorded a toss of 13.96 meters (45’9.75”) to finish second in the shot put at the Albright College Invitational.
Sophomore Jequan Mitchell (Upper Merion) was part of the 4×400 relay team that shattered the Ursinus College record by more than six seconds with a time of 3:20.91 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday in Boston. It is easily the top mark in the Centennial Conference.
Shippensburg senior Jalen Ramsey (Norristown) won the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 6 ¾ inches at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. He improved to fourth in the conference rankings with the performance. Sophomore Alex Balla (Quakertown) posted a time of 8:36.88 in the 3K, a four-second PR. Matthew Merritt (Upper Dublin) finished eighth in the long jump (19’4”) at the Bucknell Tune-Up on Friday night.
Lock Haven junior Lamier Dodson (Bensalem) finished 15th out of 38 in the weight throw with a PSAC and season best throw of 50-08.00 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
Kutztown senior Ron Smith (Neshaminy) placed 81st in the 200m dash with a PSAC-qualifying and career-best time of 22.60 seconds at the Valentine Invitational. Redshirt sophomore Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury) finished first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.47 seconds at the Susquehanna Invitational. Sophomore Khalid Weems (Upper Dublin) finished third and posted a PSAC-qualifying and career best time of 51.21 in the 400m dash. Sophomore Brandon Raguz (Central Bucks South) won the pole vault with an existing PSAC mark of 14-11.00.
East Stroudsburg sophomore Montel Johnson-Troupe (Pennsbury) posted a PSAC qualifying time of 22.85 in the 200 meters at the Fast Track National Invitational on Friday. Eric Conard (Souderton) tied for fifth out 11 in the pole vault (14-5 ¼).
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Messiah junior Natalie Ross (Souderton) finished fourth in the 3000-meter run at the Susquehanna Invitational on Friday, setting a personal record of 10:55.23.
Ursinus junior Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) ran a college record 26.20 in the 200 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Saturday, edging the 26.42 registered by Amanda Laurito in 2012.
East Stroudsburg freshman Leiana Dean (North Penn) recorded a PSAC qualifying time in the 400m of 59.71 at the Fast Track National Invitational. Freshman Victoria Matthews (Abington) tied her PSAC qualifier in the high jump (5-3) and was part of the distance medley relay that posted a 12.39.88 – seventh on ESU’s all-time list.
Temple junior Megan Schneider (Hatboro-Horsham) set a new PR in the 5000m race at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University, improving her previous record in the event by nearly 20 seconds with a time of 18:54.91.
Pitt sophomore Melanie Vlasic (North Penn) ran the 3,000 meters for the first time in her collegiate career and placed fifth with a time of 9:42.7 at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva on Saturday. Her time was a season-best time for the Panthers.
Moravian junior Sarah Hughes (Souderton) won the 3000m run at the Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Open Saturday. The Souderton grad posted a time of 10:40.80. Sophomore Casie Cronk (Quakertown) placed fifth in the high jump at an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.60 meters (5-3).
Shippensburg sophomore Lindsay Sheehan (Pennridge) set a new 200 PR at 25.72 at the Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. Sheehan and freshman Allison King (North Penn) were part of the 4×4 relay team that improved its season best time to 3:56.39.
Kutztown freshman Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) improved upon her PSAC time in the 800m run with a time of 2:23.76 at the Hemery Valentine Invitational.
West Chester junior Dara Lindsey (Central Bucks East) finished fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 58.52 in the Fastrack National Invitational at Manhattan University Friday.
Bloomsburg junior Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) ran a PR time of 5:27.17 in the mile at the Bucknell Tune-Up on Friday night.

Junior Christian Liana (Pennridge) had 10 digs in No. 9 Vassar’s 3-1 loss to No. 6 Stevens on Wednesday.
Freshman Noah Reich (Council Rock North) delivered a kill to close out the match in Marymount's 3-0 win over Bluefield on Saturday.
Freshman Josh Hinton (Council Rock North) had a pair of service aces in No. 2 Stevens Institute of Technology's 3-0 win over CSI.
Junior Tyler Burns (Council Rock North) – the all-time kill leader in program history – paced his team and led all players with eight kills to go with four digs in Lesley University's 3-0 loss to Regis College on Saturday.
WRESTLING
Senior Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) earned a 4-1 win at 157 in Kutztown’s 22-12 win over Shippensburg on Friday night. It was his 21st win of the season and 82nd of his career, tying him for fourth in school history with two-time national champion Ziad Haddad. It was his ninth straight win. In Wednesday’s 28-9 win over Millersville, Martoccio – fifth-ranked at his weight – earned a 14-2 major decision.
Nick Haegele (Central Bucks South) earned an 8-5 decision at 149 in Millersville’s 28-9 loss to Kutztown on Wednesday.
Collyn Dorney (Quakertown) earned a tech fall at 125 (16-1) in East Stroudsburg’s 45-6 dual win versus American International on Saturday.
