PENNRIDGE 11, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 10 (OT)
The visiting Lady Rams need a free position goal by Grace Loughery with 1:40 remaining to eke out the conference win.
“As a team, we came out flat and slow today,” said Pennridge coach Karen Schnurr, who teams took an early lead but found itself trailing 8-6 in the second half. “There was no sense of urgency or drive on our attacking end.
“It took us a while to figure it out, and CR South was able to capitalize on this.”
Jen Rodzewich led the Rams with four goals and one assist while Kate Ziegler had a hat trick. Loughery finished with two goals and two assists, and Maddie Dachowski had one goal and one assist. Emily Rice added one goal.
For the Golden Hawks, Sarah Womer had a big day, scoring four goals. Hannah Inchausti and Emily Keller both had a pair, and Paige Schmid had one goal. Anna DiDonato added an assist.
“I am so proud of how our team played today,” Rock South coach Ashley Fox said. “We have had a tough season with a number of losses, but that didn’t stop them from coming out strong today.
“The entire team played their hearts out for the entire game. Sarah Womer had a great game with four goals while Anna DiDonato stepped up huge with five draw controls.”
Katie Rafter was credited with five ground balls.
Rock South goalie Chloe Wszolek kept her team in it with 13 clutch saves.
“This would have been a much different game without our goalie,” Fox said. “Her 13 saves were crucial.”
Pennridge (12-5, 6-3 SOL) will host Souderton in its Senior Night game on Thursday, and Council Rock South (2-14, 1-9) will host Villa Joseph Marie in a non-league game at Walt Snyder Stadium on Thursday at 6 p.m.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 16, PENNSBURY 11
The Indians found themselves on the short end of a 7-4 score at halftime but turned on the afterburners in the second half, outscoring the Falcons 12-4.
So what changed?
“They just played their game the second half,” coach Krista Dayton-Ventresca said. “The defense clicked.
“We’re missing Lauren D’Amelia, and the defense made some adjustments. We face-guarded number 10 (Lily Nolan), and we took (Sarah Benzinger’s) left hand away. We made defensive adjustments, and the offense started using each other.”
The Indians lost D’Amelia for the season to a knee injury.
“She really was our defensive glue,” Dayton-Ventresa said. “She’s got more experience on varsity – this is her third year on varsity, and she really is a leader down there, so that’s been hard.”
Anna Lehman had a big day for the Indians, finishing with five goals and two assists. Claire Jarema added five goals and one assist, and Devon Mela had four goals and two assists. Jacklyn Walstrum contributed a pair of goals.
“We pulled it out, and we needed that win,” Dayton-Ventresca said. “They had us on the ropes. All the credit to them – they ran the show. I was worried.”
Council Rock North (10-6, 7-3 SOL) will close out its regular season on Friday with a home game against New Hope-Solebury. Pennsbury closed its season with a 3-7 record in conference play (5-10 overall)
