National Conference
NESHAMINY 2, WILLIAM TENNENT 1
With Wednesday’s win, the Redskins clinched sole possession of their second consecutive conference crown – their fourth in five years. They had to earn this one against a Panther squad playing for its playoff lives.
“Going into today, it was clear – a win versus Neshaminy was going to give William Tennent enough points to make the playoffs,” Neshaminy coach Dave Chichilitti said. “William Tennent treated it like that, played like that. Credit to them – they played an awesome game.
“The playoff atmosphere was definitely there, and it was very important to come out and win the game versus a team that played us very hard. They didn’t make any errors.”
As for the league title, the Redskins can check that off their wish list for the season.
“It’s always a goal – you want to win your league, it’s a competitive league,” Chichilitti said. “It’s nice, and it’s about what comes with it.
“Doing it before, we know with winning the league comes a bye and two home games.”
The Redskins needed a run in the seventh to eke out Wednesday’s win. After the Panthers put a run on the board in the second, the ‘Skins came back to knot the score in the fourth when Olivia Zaino, who singled to lead off the frame, scored on Devan Masciulli’s clutch two-out RBI single.
In the seventh, Masciulli led off the inning with a single and scored on Amber Brugger’s RBI groundout.
“It was a good win,” Chichilitti said. “They played us so tough.”
Brugger earned the win in the circle, allowing four hits while striking out three in 2.2 scoreless innings in relief. Sarah Dowalo started and threw 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and one run while fanning five.
The Redskins were led by Sophie Baretski (2-for-3) and Masciulli (2-for-3, RBI).
Neshaminy (16-2, 13-1 SOL) is scheduled to host Bristol on Monday in a non-league game. William Tennent is 7-6 in conference play (10-9 overall).

PENNSBURY 4, WILLIAM TENNENT 2
The Falcons saved their best for last, winning for the fifth time in six games on Tuesday to close out their regular season on a high note.
“We just dug too big a hole for ourselves,” coach Frank McSherry said. “You can’t measure every season in wins and losses.
“We said to our kids at the beginning of the season – we’re going to measure our season by where we start and where we finish up, how far we’ve grown on that continuum. I think we really have. We lost some games in the beginning of the season we should not have lost, but we just weren’t ready yet.”
The transition to varsity softball is not always an easy one for young players.
“We said to them yesterday and we said at the beginning of the year – this is not your summer league,” McSherry said. “This is not a 60-70 game schedule where 90 percent of the games don’t mean anything.
“It’s not a showcase. It’s 20 games. You can’t give away an at-bat, you can’t give away a ground ball, you can’t give away anything because with 20 games, every game is important. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing.
“It takes – I don’t want to say buying in because I think they bought in. It took them a while to understand. I said to Murph (assistant coach Dave Murphy) yesterday – lesson learned. Time will tell if lesson learned but – if not lesson learned, at least lesson. The learning part is to be determined later.”
Bailee Zaccaro had another big day for the Falcons, finishing 2-for-3. Her RBI triple highlighted a two run third that gave the Falcons a lead they would not lose. Sydney Jakimowicz, who singled to open the inning, scored on the triple. Mia Pitt, in her second game back after being sidelined with a concussion, was 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the third. Alyssa Hileman was 2-for-3 with a double.
Hileman earned the complete game win in the circle, fanning four and allowing five hits.
A pair of seniors stepped up big on Pennsbury’s Senior Day. Lizzy Saupe filled in behind the plate after the Falcons lost both of their catchers to injuries the preceding day – one to a concussion and the other to a thumb injury.
“She’s had some at-bats, but she hasn’t caught for us, and she makes a great catch on a popup where she’s sliding on both of her knees between third base and home,” McSherry said.
Another senior – Jess Patterson – was 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Caitlyn Mitros led the Panthers with a 2-for-4 effort that included a double.
Pennsbury closed out its season with an 8-10 record overall (7-7 SOL).
