Chestnut Hill junior Robert Johnson (William Tennent) placed 49th with a time of 22:12.0 at the Philadelphia Metro Meet on Saturday. The Griffins finished third in the 11-team field.
West Chester sophomore Eric Chapman (Neshaminy) placed 42nd at the Lehigh Cross Country Invitational on Friday with a time of 21:00.4. West Chester finished fifth in the team standings.
La Salle junior Joseph Leconey (North Penn) placed 46th on the 6K course at the Big 5 Invitational on Friday at Belmont Plateau.
Philadelphia University junior Saaeddine Traboulsi (Bensalem) finished 56th with a time of 22:45.1 at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Championship on Saturday at Belmont Plateau. Philly U finished fourth as a team.
Villanova redshirt freshman Casey Comber (Hatboro-Horsham) finished in seventh place with a time of 19:14.7 at the Big 5 Invitational at Belmont Plateau on Friday.
Freshman Declan McDonald (Central Bucks West) finished ninth with a time of 12:53 in Bloomsburg’s 15-48 win over Mansfield University in the Flatlander Invitational on Sept. 2. Tim Silverthorn (Council Rock South) was 13th in 13:55. The Huskies, ranked eighth in the USTFCCA preseason Division II Atlantic Region pool, swept the top six places on their way to the win.
Penn State Abington freshman Troy Green (Upper Dublin) finished in 13th place with a time of 30:41 in the Shannon Henretty Invitational on Saturday. Michael Cooney (North Penn) was 18th with a time of 31:26, and Alexander Beltz (Abington) finished 41st with a time of 35:28. Rounding out the squad, Minaam Ahmed (Pennsbury) finished 53rd with a time of 37:06.
Cairn freshman Joe Varughese (Bensalem) placed fifth with a time of 29:01.34 in the Highlander Invitational on Saturday.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Cara Landis (North Penn) posted a time of 29:52.0 to finish 46th at the CSAC Preview Meet hosted by Rosemont College on Saturday.
Sophomore Lindsey Gerlach (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 15:09 and placed 11th in the 2016 Galen E. Piper Alumni Open/Cross Country Challenge on Friday. It was her first time as one of SU’s top four scorers in a race, and her time was a 52-second improvement from last year. Sophomore Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) rounded out the SU scorers with a 13th-place time of 15:23 – an effort that is nearly 40 seconds faster than her 2015 run. Freshman Maria Antoni (Upper Moreland) was the fastest of the SU newcomers, running 15:29 for a solid top 15 finish. Abbie Todd (Council Rock North) posted a time of 16:25. Shippensburg claimed the overall title.
Kutztown sophomore Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) placed 11th with a time of 19:31.90 at the Stonehill Invitational. Kutztown finished fourth in the team standings.
Elizabethtown junior Kelsey Brady (Council Rock South) was the third Blue Jay to come in under 25 minutes at the Delaware Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 24:59.03 to finish 18th.
Penn State Abington freshman Claire Reeves (Central Bucks South) finished 18th with a time of 29:25 in the Shannon Henretty Invitational at Stevenson on Saturday.
La Salle freshman Alyssa Quinn (Hatboro-Horsham) placed 28th in the 4K with a time of 15:44.9 at the Big Five Invitational on Friday at the Belmont Plateau.
Philadelphia University senior Victoria Frisbie (North Penn) placed 10th with a time of 22:40.0 at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Championship on Saturday. For the ninth year in a row, Philadelphia University claimed first place.
Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) finished third with a time of 10:54 while Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) was fourth in 10:55 in Bloomsburg’s 15-47 win over Mansfield in the Flatlander Invitational last Friday.
FIELD HOCKEY
Abigail Gabriel (Souderton) scored the lone goal for Gwynedd Mercy in its 4-1 loss to Alvernia on Saturday.
Kristin Donohue (Council Rock South) contributed an assist in No. 8 Messiah’s 3-2 win over No. 7 Salisbury on Saturday. In Thursday’s 4-1 upset of No. 4 Ursinus, Donohue had an assist while Shelby Landes (Souderton) turned away three shots in goal.
Villanova junior Mackenzie Harding (Central Bucks South) suffered a season-ending knee injury with a stress fracture of her femur. Last year, Harding started all 17 games on defense for the Wildcats.
Junior Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a goal in Kutztown’s 7-1 win over Assumption on Monday.
Junior Megan Hamilton (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist in Providence’s 3-1 win over Rider on Sunday. In last Friday’s 3-1 win over Vermont, Hamilton scored a goal.
Junior Carlie Baldus (Hatboro-Horsham) connected for the game winner in Delaware Valley’s 1-0 win over Frostburg in the championship game of the Frostburg State Tournament on Saturday. She found the cage with 16:38 remaining in the second half. It was her team-leading third goal of the season. In Saturday’s 1-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan, Baldus was credited with an assist.
Colleen McCabe (William Tennent) contributed a goal in Lock Haven’s 8-0 win over visiting Towson last Sunday.
Freshman Sam Scoma (Wissahickon) found the back of the cage in the 74th minute to propel Widener to a 4-3 overtime win over Neumann on Friday. In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Drew, Scoma contributed an assist on the Pride’s second goal. Senior Dana Adamson (Central Bucks South) anchored a strong back line that forced Pride goalie Mikayla Ninos to make just one save in the shutout.
Freshman Marley Berger (Springfield Township) scored a goal in Albright’s 3-2 loss to Eastern on Friday.
FOOTBALL
Redshirt senior quarterback Bruce Campbell (Pennsbury) was 23-for-38 for 309 yards and three touchdowns in East Stroudsburg’s 73-42 loss to 10th-ranked IUP on Saturday. It was his second career 300-yard passing game in five starts.
Craig Reynolds (Abington) had a 68-yard run on the first drive of Kutztown’s 23-19 loss Mercyhurst on Saturday. He capped the drive with a touchdown and finished the night with a career-high 144 yards on 18 carries. He ran for nearly two-thirds of Kutztown’s 196 rushing yards and also hauled in two passes for 18 yards.
Senior quarterback Alex Krivda (Pennridge) completed 27-of-54 passes for 255 yards and one touchdown in Widener’s 19-14 loss to Rowan on Saturday. Senior captain Steve Gozur (North Penn) made eight tackles, including three for a loss. He also had one sack.
Junior quarterback Andrew Derr (Upper Dublin) threw for 435 yards and three touchdowns in West Chester’s 36-28 non-league loss to No. 12 Slippery Rock on Saturday. Derr finished 31-for-62. The 31 completions and 435 yards were both career highs. Kevin Duggan (Central Bucks West) recovered a fumble. In last Saturday’s 31-24 non-league win over Bentley College, Derr – in relief of starter Pat Moriarty – completed 11-of-19 passes for 169 yards and a score.
Evan Stahl (Central Bucks South) connected on a 32-yard field goal in Millersville’s 38-24 loss to Seton Hill on Saturday.
Freshman quarterback Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) was 25-for-43 for 173 yards and a touchdown in Ursinus College’s 42-17 loss to Gettysburg on Saturday. Senior Corey Kelly (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 73 yards on 13 carries. Sophomore Alec Vera (Quakertown) collected a team-high 50 yards on three receptions. Freshman Jack Spingler (Neshaminy) delivered a strip that was scooped up by teammate Prince Patterson, who returned it 32 yards for a touchdown that gave Ursinus a 14-0 lead. In last Saturday’s 23-13 loss to Bethany (W.Va.), Garlick racked up 302 yards – a school record for a player in his collegiate debut – on 22-of-42 passing, including an 85-yard strike that pulled the Bears to within 16-13 with 13:25 to play. Gardner turned in an impressive debut, rolling up a game-high 105 yards on 17 carries and adding three catches for 22 yards.
Defensive back Vincent Alimenti (Council Rock South) had four solo tackles in the University of California (PA) 79-3 win over Cheyney on Saturday.
Sophomore kicker Kevin Goetz (Neshaminy) connected on field goals of 42 and 24 yards in Albright’s 31-26 loss to Stevenson on Saturday.
Senior running back Javon White (Souderton) pushed his way through a pack of defenders for a two-yard touchdown run with 4:20 to play, and No. 22 Villanova used a dominant running game to rally past Lehigh for a 26-21 win on Saturday. White ran for a career-high 155 yards and two scores as the Wildcats racked up their most rushing yards in a game (396) in nearly seven years. Senior defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon (Wissahickon) had five tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, as well as the Wildcats’ only sack of the game.
MEN’S GOLF
Saint Joseph’s junior Tyler Sokolis (Central Bucks West) tied for ninth at 68-75/143 at the Bucknell Invitational. St. Joe’s captured the team title.
WOMEN’S GOLF
West Chester sophomore Juliarose Genuardi (North Penn) carded a 92 in the opening round of the Evann Parker Memorial at Lake View Country Club on Friday.
MEN’S SOCCER
Sophomore Cole Kropnick (Wissahickon) opened the scoring with a goal less the 90 seconds into Shippensburg’s 4-1 road win over Holy Family on Wednesday. Jake Shefsky (Council Roc South) contributed an assist.
Freshman Brett Miller (Council Rock North) found the back of the net to propel West Chester past Mercyhurst 2-1 in double overtime on Friday. Miller’s first collegiate goal with 4:32 remaining in double overtime marks the only time the Golden Rams had the lead in the match.
Midfielder Devon Memis (Wissahickon) found the back of the net for the first time this season in Philadelphia University’s 2-2 tie with Queens (N.Y.) last Saturday. Eric Gutierrez (Harry S Truman) was credited with three saves in his first start of the season.
Senior Ryan Molyneaux (Souderton) contributed his 13th career assist in Ursinus College’s 4-2 win over Cabrini on Saturday. The assist moved into the top 10 in school history.
Tyler Afflerbach (Souderton) came up with seven saves in Drexel’s 1-1 tie against Rhode Island on Tuesday.
Johnny Ciarlante (William Tennent) contributed a goal while Matt Robinson (North Penn) delivered his team-best fifth helper of the year in La Salle’s 3-0 win over Manhattan on Saturday. In Wednesday’s overtime 4-3 win over Saint Peter’s, Ciarlante scored his first goal of the season and Robinson assisted on all four goals.
Freshman Evan Vare (Central Bucks East) netted the first two goals of his career in Lafayette’s 3-1 win over Fordham on Friday night, one coming early in the second half to put the Leopards ahead 2-1. The other was scored late to seal the victory. The East graduate has started all five games at forward in his rookie season.
Richard Domico (Neshaminy) scored the equalizer in Penn State Abington’s 2-1 win over Penn College on Saturday.
Senior goalkeeper Jake Nesteruk (Central Bucks East) recorded four saves to register his first shutout of the season in The College of New Jersey’s 1-0 win over Keystone College on Saturday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Sophomore Carly Abbott (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored her first career goal on a free kick in the ninth minute in East Stroudsburg’s 5-0 win at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Lindsay Walder (Upper Moreland) scored 46 seconds into the second overtime to propel St. Joseph’s to a 3-2 double overtime win over Villanova on Friday night. In Sunday’s 1-1 tie at Rider, sophomore Michaela Finneyfrock (Council Rock North) was credited with an assist.
Kailey Hopkins (Williams Tennent) turned in a stellar performance in both overtimes in Gwynedd Mercy’s 1-1 tie against Lycoming on Saturday, racking up two saves in the first and three in the second. The Griffins were outshot 5-1 in the overtimes, but Hopkins preserved the tie. In Wednesday’s 1-1 tie with Penn College, she collected a career high 13 saves.
Sophomore Beth McGee (Souderton) intercepted a throw-in and ripped a volley left post from outside the 18-yard box in Shippensburg’s 4-0 win over Chestnut Hill on Tuesday.
Junior Megan Schafer (Neshaminy) contributed an assist in No. 13 Penn State’s 2-1 win over #18 Long Beach State last Sunday.
Senior Jeannie Jasinski (Pennridge) was named the Offensive MVP of the Mayor’s Cup that saw Ursinus battle Oneonta State to a 1-1 tie in Sunday’s final match. Junior Anna Budny (Council Rock North) also earned a spot on the all-tournament team. In Saturday’s 3-1 win over Hartwick, senior Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) scored a goal. Sophomore Stephanie Donahue (Neshaminy) notched her first collegiate assist. In Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Arcadia, Farrell collected the ball outside of the goalmouth and found the back of the net for the 10th marker of her career.
Senior forward Lexi Brown (Pennsbury) had a pair of assists in West Chester’s 5-0 win over Gannon on Saturday. Junior McKenna Mullin (Neshaminy) took over the goalkeeper responsibilities for the final 15 minutes. In West Chester’s 2-0 win over Mercyhurst on Friday, Linzi Wolfe (Quakertown) finished off a breakaway to score the game’s second goal. Carly Henry (Pennridge) and Nikki Caffey (Council Rock South) delivered big defensive plays to keep Mercyhurst off the board.
Amanda Mcelhare (Harry S Truman) scored the second goal of her young career in Millersville’s 2-1 loss to Slippery Rock on Friday.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Kristen Kriebel (Pennridge) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win in Gwynedd Mercy’s 9-0 win over Cairn University on Saturday.
Emily Zygmunt (Pennsbury) earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at fifth singles and was part of the third doubles team’s 8-0 win in Philadelphia University’s 9-0 non-conference win over Shippensburg on Saturday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Junior Taylor McCartney (Pennsbury) was credited with 11 digs while freshman Miranda Foster (Neshaminy) had four kills and a team-best 2.5 blocks in Ursinus College’s 3-0 sweep of Marywood on Wednesday.
Melanie Phifer (Upper Dublin) registered 12 digs in Lebanon Valley’s 3-0 sweep of Penn State Altoona and then had 15 digs in Lebanon Valley’s 3-0 win over Rowan in a doubleheader sweep Saturday. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Franklin & Marshall, Phifer had 17 digs. In Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Widener, Phifer led the Dutchmen with 18 digs.
Eastern University senior Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) was named the MAC Freedom Player of the
Week for the week ending Sept. 4. The senior outside hitter had an impressive opening weekend at the Rowan University Labor Day Invitational, helping Eastern to a tournament title and a 4-0 start to the season. For the weekend, Elechko tallied 61 kills on 116 total attempts, recorded eight aces, totaled 29 digs and posted a hitting percentage of .405 in the 12 total sets played. Her best performance of the weekend came in the Eagles 3-0 win over Emmanuel College in the title match. Elechko recorded 26 kills and a .765 hitting percentage and committed zero errors totaling 28 points. The tournament recognized Elechko by naming her to the all-tournament team.
Elechko contributed 18 kills in Eastern’s 3-2 win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday. She had 15 kills in Eastern’s 3-1 win over Neumann University later in the day. Eastern moved from 21 to No. 16 in the latest AVCA national poll for Division 2.
Senior libero Chelsea Gallagher (William Tennent) collected 22 digs in Elizabethtown’s 3-1 loss to Virginia Wesleyan at the Salisbury Sea Gull Classic on Saturday. In Elizabethtown’s 3-0 loss to Salisbury later in the day, Gallagher finished with 11 digs.
Freshman Kate Woolsey (Central Bucks East) contributed 10 kills and 16 digs in Delaware Valley’s 3-0 win over the College at Old Westbury on Saturday. In Del Val’s 3-0 loss to Rutgers-Camden in the second match of Saturday’s tri-match, Woolsey had 10 digs. In Thursday’s 3-1 win over Clarks Summit, Woolsey had 10 services aces and also added seven kills and 16 digs.
