WILLIAM TENNENT 56, BENSALEM 26
The Panthers raced out to a 19-9 lead and took that nine-point lead into the intermission, although the Owls trimmed that lead to one before Tennent closed out the half with an 8-0 run.
“I was really disappointed with our energy and effort last game (a loss to Pennridge), so prior to the game, I challenged our girls to see how they were going to respond,” coach Laura Whitney said. “Overall, the effort and energy was much better, but as a coach, you are always looking at things to improve.”
The Panthers outscored the visiting Owls 28-7 in the second half.
“I thought early in the second quarter we started to get sloppy and careless with the ball and rushed our offense,” Whitney said. “We did a much better job in the second half of slowing down and being patient. We had better ball movement and got quality shots.
“Defensively, we did a better job of pressuring the ball, but more importantly, we limited them to one shot and rebounded well.”
Kyla Gibson led the Panthers with 16 points, and Kelly Scipione added 12. Emma Stanfield had eight points, and Paige Schmidt contributed six.
For the Owls, Haley Keenan led the way with 11 points.
William Tennent (4-7, 0-4 SOL) will travel to Souderton on Tuesday, and Bensalem (2-9, 0-4) will host Abington Tuesday.
“This is a busy week for us with four games and two of them being tough conference opponents,” Whitney said. “Hopefully, we can take some of the confidence we gained tonight and use it as momentum for the rest of the week.”
