MEN’S BASKETBALL
Khalil White (Cheltenham) contributed nine points and three rebounds off the bench in Penn State Harrisburg’s 75-47 loss to Christopher Newport on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 54-53 win over Penn State York, White shared the team lead with 12 points.
Sophomore guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) netted a game-high 21 points to go along with three assists and a pair of blocked shots in Moravian’s 80-77 win over Susquehanna on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 84-69 win over Goucher, Murray scored 14 points.
Senior Ryan Charity (Pennsbury) secured nine rebounds in Cabrini’s 77-63 win at Centenary on Saturday. It was the team’s eighth consecutive victory. In Monday’s 83-66 win over Centenary, Charity chipped in 11 points off the bench.
Freshman Tracy Simsick (Souderton) scored 10 points in DeSales University’s 77-74 win over King’s on Wednesday. Steve Ciotti (Pennsbury) added seven points.
Sophomore Evan Slone (Souderton) scored 16 points and also had eight rebounds in Arcadia’s 75-69 loss at Messiah College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 76-69 loss to Albright, Slone had 15 points and two steals.
Penn State Abington freshman John Ryan (William Tennent) was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22 after a men’s basketball career-setting week. The forward opened his week with 34 points at Penn College, leading the Nittany Lions to an 82-70 win. Later in the week, he led the Nittany Lions again with 31 points in their 84-79 loss against Wells College. In a 95-85 overtime win against Keuka College, Ryan scored a game-high 22 points. Over the three-game stretch, Ryan averaged 29 points and six rebounds while shooting 56 percent from the floor. This is Ryan’s first Student-Athlete of the Week award.
Ryan scored 16 points in Penn State Abington’s 82-54 decision to Bryn Athyn on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 102-91 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth, Ryan scored 24 points.
Junior Zach Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) was named team MVP in Ursinus College’s 74-71 loss to Johns Hopkins in the 16th Wall-O’Mahony game on Saturday. It was the first appearance by Ursinus in the Wall-O’Mahony game since 2008. Quattro scored 14 of his team-high 15 points in the first half and added 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double. Sophomore Zack Muredda (Pennridge) had four points, five assists and three steals. In Thursday’s 87-58 win over Haverford, Quattro posted 11 points while Murredda swiped five of the Bears’ 20 steals, which tied a school record set in 2005. Sophomore Matt Margolis (Council Rock North) added four points.
Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) netted 14 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 92-77 loss at No. 21 Neumann on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 75-65 win over Marywood, Goodman contributed 11 points.
For the third consecutive week and fifth time this season, Lock Haven freshman Amir Hinton (Abington) was named PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22. Over last week’s two-game span that saw LHU go 1-1 in PSAC East play, Hinton averaged 29 points. He recorded back-to-back career scoring outings as he netted a then career-high 28 at Mansfield before registering his first career 30-point game at West Chester in a thrilling PSAC East win. At Mansfield, Hinton also had six rebounds and two steals to go along with his 28 points. In the win at West Chester, Hinton had seven rebounds to go along with his career-high 30 points, which powered LHU to its first victory at West Chester since January 2007.
Hinton scored 23 points while shooting 53 percent from the floor (8-of-15) and 60 percent from beyond the arc (3-of-5) in Lock Haven’s 89-82 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. He also finished with a team-high 11 rebounds. In Wednesday’s 93-76 loss to Bloomsburg, Hinton finished the game with a team-high 27 points. He was 11-of-18 from the field and he added two 3-pointers to go along with several monster dunks.
For the first time in his career, Kutztown redshirt sophomore Anthony Lee (Abington) was named PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22. He was a four-time PSAC East Freshman of the Week in 2015-16. Lee led KU in scoring as the Maroon and Gold rode its winning streak to seven games. He averaged 20.5 points, shot 65.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from 3-point range while making all five of his free throws. He also contributed averages of 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks. Against Bloomsburg, Lee made 9-of-13 from the field, 3-of-4 from 3-point range, a perfect 3-of-3 from the line en route to a season and a team-high 24 points – his fourth 20-plus point game in seven contests – to go along with four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. At Millersville, he again led KU with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. In addition to adding four rebounds, the redshirt sophomore had multiple steals for the 10th time in 11 contests.
Lee scored a career-high 29 points – his fifth 20-plus point performance in nine games – to go along with six rebounds and two steals in No. 11 Kutztown’s 110-85 win over West Chester on Wednesday. Lee continued his strong season from deep, hitting a career-best five three-pointers on seven attempts to improve his three-point percentage to a staggering 59.2 percent. Ryan Connolly (Souderton) also made his way up the program record book as he nailed four 3-pointers to become just the second player in program history with 200 for his career. He finished the contest with 14 points and stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, career-highs of four blocks and four steals and three assists.
Tom Townsend (Council Rock South) scored four points – including a jumper that gave the Marauders a double-digit lead – in Millersville’s 82-65 win over No. 5 Shippensburg on Saturday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) scored six points on a pair of threes and also had three assists in the University of Michigan’s 80-54 win over Northwestern on Wednesday.
Deja Rawls (Abington) had five points, six assists and one steal in Siena’s 91-86 double overtime win over Monmouth on Saturday.
Senior Lauren Crisler (North Penn) scored a team-high 15 points in American University’s 73-62 win over Colgate on Sunday.
Freshman forward Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 12 points in Washington College’s 66-58 win over Swarthmore on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 59-37 loss to McDaniel, Quattro tallied her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds as she tied for team-high in points and game-best in rebounds.
Freshman Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) contributed seven points off the bench to go along with seven rebounds, two assists and a steal in the University of the Science’s 71-60 loss to Caldwell University on Saturday.
Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) pulled down eight rebounds and also had five points and four assists in Albright’s 75-58 win over Stevenson on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 83-51 rout of Arcadia, Lofton earned her ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She also had four steals, three assists and two blocks.
Freshman Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) registered 17 points and 11 rebounds in Ursinus College’s 50-41 win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday, pulling the first regular season sweep of the Blue Jays in program history. In Thursday’s 62-55 over Haverford, Konstanzer had seven points, five rebounds and four assists. In Tuesday’s 70-51 loss to Muhlenberg, Konstanzer collected 10 points.
Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Erin Maher (North Penn) both had eight points in Philadelphia University’s 72-57 loss to Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 75-69 loss to Chestnut Hill, Williams had a team-high 17 points to go along with six assists, five rebounds and a steal.
Forward Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) had 11 points and eight rebounds in Shippensburg’s 62-51 win over Millersville on Saturday, extending its winning streak to 11 games. In Wednesday’s 76-45 win over the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Knauer led four Raiders in double figures with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. She added five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Junior Allison Gallagher (Souderton) scored 16 points, and freshman Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) added seven in Widener’s 91-63 loss to Lycoming on Saturday.
Junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) led all scorers with 18 points while also contributing six steals and four assists in Chestnut Hill’s 82-75 win over Felician University on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 75-69 win over Philadelphia University, Tumasz contributed 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Taylor Thames (North Penn) and Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) scored 10 points apiece in Kutztown’s 72-70 win over West Chester on Wednesday.
Senior guard Courtney Brown (Council Rock South) scored a career-high 11 points in East Stroudsburg’s 64-45 win at Lock Haven on Saturday. Brown hit 4-of-10 shots from the field, including 3-of-8 attempts from 3-point range. Senior guard Rachel Falkowski (Central Bucks South) chipped in eight points and five rebounds, hitting 3-of-4 field goal attempts.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Cabrini senior Chris Moore (Hatboro-Horsham) finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of (1:03.12) in Cabrini’s 137-49 win over Bethany College on Saturday.
Freshman Ogden Leyens (Upper Dublin) was part of the 400 free relay that posted a time of 3:06.96 in Gettysburg’s 135-127 win over Swarthmore College in a battle between the final two undefeated teams in the Centennial Conference on Saturday. Gettysburg trailed 123-122 heading into the relay. Leyens also captured first place in the 200 free and the 500 free.
Junior Jacob Schellinger (North Penn) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.1 and was second in the 100 with a time of 54.73 in Arcadia’s 119-48 win at Stevenson on Saturday. Freshman Mark Preedy (William Tennent) placed third in the 50 free with a time of 23.17.
Tyler Chamberlin (Springfield) finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.84 in Albright’s tri-meet wins over Messiah (105-61) and Misericordia (107-51) on Saturday. He also finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.26) and was part of the 400 medley relay team that finished second (3:37.45). Tim Resch (Springfield) was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.38) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.50).
Shippensburg freshman Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle with a PSAC qualifying time of 16:53.36 at the Bison Invite at Bucknell University on Saturday. He finished fifth in the 500 free with a PSAC qualifying time of 4:50.27.
Freshman Devon Polak (Upper Dublin) finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.64 in Bloomsburg’s 238-112 win over IUP on Saturday to complete its first undefeated regular season in program history.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Junior Megan Berardelli (Wissahicon) finished first in the one-meter (278.25 points) and three-meter (292.27 points) diving events in Marist’s 165-135 win over Binghamton on Saturday.
Freshman Rachel Samson (Council Rock North) finished second in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.87 in Arcadia’s 147-98 win at Stevenson. She also finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:21.06. Senior Megan Obarowski (Council Rock South) had the third fastest time in the 200 IM (2:20.25).
Olivia DiStefano (North Penn) was part of the first place 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:51.11 in La Salle’s 127-55 win over Mount St. Mary on Friday. DiStefano also won the 50 free with a time of 24.58. In Saturday’s 125-75 win over Rowan, DiStefano was part of the winning 200 medley relay that touched the wall in 1:51.44. She also won the 50 free with a time of 24.88 seconds.
La Salle junior diver Sydney Szopo (Upper Moreland) placed sixth with a score of 245.15 in the finals at the Penn State Invitational on Saturday.
Junior Bridget Perdoch (Pennsbury) posted a pair of PSAC qualifying times in the 1650 free (19:24.99) and 200 breaststroke (2:38.14) in Kutztown’s 125-115 loss to LIU Post on Saturday. Perdoch finished fourth in the 1650 free and third in the 200 breast. Senior Aimee Watkins (Hatboro-Horsham) finished second in the 500 free (6:02.46) and third in the 200 free (2:17.48), and Caitlyn Falguera (Hatboro-Horsham) was sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:13.75) and the 200 backstroke (2:34.47).
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
University of Pittsburgh senior Chris Spadaro (Council Rock South) was named First National Bank Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22. Spadaro claimed the first individual win of his career when he championed the triple jump at the YSU College Invitational at Watson and Tressel Training Site. The CR South graduate leaped to a 14.61m finish, placing first out of 21 competitors. He was one of five Panthers to secure their first individual career wins at the meet, and his event marked one of 10 victories on the day for Pitt.
Spadaro finished second in the triple jump with a personal record of 15.18m on the final day of the Penn State National Open on Saturday. On Friday, Spadaro finished fourth in the men’s long jump (7.14m).
Shippensburg junior Alex Balla (Quakertown) placed eighth in the 5K with a time of 15:12.67 at the Penn State National Invitational on Friday.
Kutztown junior Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield) beat out a field of 59 to win the 400m for the second time in two weeks, posting a new PSAC mark with a time of 50.81 at the Bison Open at Bucknell University on Saturday. Freshman Ryan Benner (Pennridge) posted a career-best time of 7.43 in the 60m dash prelims. On Friday, Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury) and Obi Ogbonna (Harry S Truman) both posted PSAC marks en route to finishing first and third, respectively, in the 60m hurdles preliminaries. Bullaro crossed the finish line in 8.52 while Ogbonna finished in a career best 8.65.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Monmouth sophomore Amber Stratz (Central Bucks South) led the 1000m wire to wire to earn a gold medal with a time of 2:59.10 at the 19th Annual Bison Open at Bucknell University on Saturday. Her sibling, sophomore Brianna Stratz (Central Bucks South), won the 500m with a time of 1:17.10. At the Villanova Open on Friday, Allison Taub (Council Rock South) finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 41-11 ½.
Kutztown sophomore Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) finished seventh and posted a new PSAC time in the 3000m (10:28.12) at the Bison Open hosted by Bucknell University on Saturday. Olivia Morano (Quakertown) had a season-best in the weight throw (35-10).
Duquesne sophomore Shannon Taub (Council Rock South) finished first in the high jump (5-5) at the Gulden Invitational at Bucknell University on Jan. 21.
Widener sophomore Thomas Rozinski (North Penn) finished 11th in the 5000 in 16:16.95 at Lehigh’s John Covert Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Sean Stovall (Springfield) finished 11th in the 400 with a time of 53.37.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior co-captain Christian Lizana (Pennridge) had a team-high 15 kills as he hit .343 in Vassar’s 3-2 win over No. 14 Rivier University at the Clash at Kean on Saturday. He also had eight digs and three assisted blocks.
Freshman Austin Rush (Pennridge) led the defense with 10 digs and also had four assists in Alvernia’s 3-1 win over Cairn on Saturday.
WRESTLING
Dylan Nutall (Harry S Truman) improved to 21-9 with his win at 133 after bumping up from 125 in No. 25 York College’s 50-0 win over Penn College on Friday.
Elizabethtown junior Philip Torresani (Hatboro-Horsham) earned a first round bye at 125 in the Pete Willson Invitational but was rewarded for that with a meeting against the No. 2 ranked wrestler in D3, Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Zac Denny, in the second round. Torresani showed well against Denny, a returning All-American, coming up just short in a 5-1 decision. Torresani answered back with an 8-5 decision over Heidelberg’s Mason Brainard but could get no further than the third round of consolations.
