COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 11, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 (5 innings)
Greg Heydet knew his team would be able to put runs on the board.
He was right.
The Golden Hawks scored 11 runs in the first three innings and went on to win by that score in the abbreviated contest.
“If they stay focused, I think we’re going to hit all the way through,” Heydet said. “It’s nice to win our opener because we are always faced with the Senior Class Trip, and it affects our team unity.
“This is the first time we’ve won our opener – three years in a row we lost. The Senior Trip had something to do with it, but they’re ready to play this year.”
The Hawks’ small ball ignited a four-run first as Stephanie Andreoli and Mackenzie Marina reached base on back-to-back bunts to open the inning. The bases were loaded with none out after Melanie Wilkinson was hit by a pitch. Sabrina Dobron contributed an RBI single, and the Golden Hawks also benefitted from a free pass and a Panther error.
In the second, the Golden Hawks tacked on a pair of runs to go on top 6-0, thanks to an RBI double by Wilkinson and an RBI single by Emily Freed. A five-run fifth included three hits, two errors and two walks.
Andreoli’s 3-for-4 effort at the plate led the Hawks while Dobron was 2-for-3.
Danielle Walters tossed a five-inning shutout, fanning nine and walking one.”
“She really came along,” Heydet said. “She’s going to help us out and help the pitching staff out.”
Brianna Koonce was 2-for-2 with a double to lead the Panthers.
Council Rock South (1-0) will travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Friday, and William Tennent (0-1) will host Quakertown in a non-league game on Thursday.

SOUDERTON 6, HARRY S TRUMAN 4
The Indians opened up a 5-2 lead over the visiting Tigers and went on to earn a win in their non-league opener.
Truman put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the first, but the Indians answered with three in the bottom of the inning. Mya Pritchard got the ball rolling with a single, and Jenny Klepfer followed with a double, putting a pair on board for pitcher Alex Scheeler, whose two-run triple knotted the score. Jordyn Peacock’s RBI single gave the Indians a 3-2 lead.
In the second, the Indians tacked on two more runs. Freshman Jess Lepore legged out a bunt, and Bri Neely followed with a single. Pritchard’s second single of the game loaded the bases, and Klepfer delivered a two-run double that put the Indians on top 5-2.
Truman got one of those runs back in the third and plated an unearned run in the fifth to make it a 5-4 game. The Indians added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth for the 6-4 final that gave Liz Parkins the win in her debut at the helm of her alma mater.
“The girls were excited, I was excited,” the Indians’ coach said. “I think now we can relax and get to work since our first win is under our belts.”
Neely led the Indians with a 3-for-4 effort and also had three stolen bases. Klepfer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Pritchard was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt. Scheeler was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, and she also earned the win in the circle, allowing seven hits while fanning six and walked just one.

BENSALEM 7, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 4
The Owls are displaying a flare for the dramatic.
Five days after earning a walk-off win in their season opener against Conwell Egan, the Owls found themselves staring at a 4-1 deficit after five innings, but it could have been worse.
“Haley Sauer got us out of a jam, striking out the next two batters she faced,” coach Dan Schram said of a fifth inning that saw the Patriots score a pair of runs.
There was still the not-so-little matter of scoring some runs. The Owls put two on the board in the sixth to make it a 4-3 game and then exploded for four in the seventh. Allison Goodman led off with a single, and senior Chrissy Segrest also singled in the frame. Junior Lauren Boyle, according to Schram, had a great 15-pitch at-bat that led to a walk. The Owls also benefitted from several Patriot miscues.
Sauer allowed just one hit in the sixth and seventh to earn the win.
“Different players are stepping up all at the same time,” Schram said. “I said the same statement to the kids as I did with Egan – ‘Keep it close and we will find a way later.’
“We played good defense, and our hitting was timely. It was a nice win.”
The Owls held a 9-6 advantage in hits. Segrest was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Owls.
Bensalem (2-0) will host Garnet Valley on Friday, and Central Bucks East (0-1) will host Hatboro-Horsham on Friday in a non-league contest.
