Monday’s SOL scheduled featured a pair of extra-inning games. Check out the recaps for all the action.
SOL American Conference
QUAKERTOWN 16, HATBORO-HORSHAM 12 (8 innings)
There were early signs that Monday’s American Conference showdown pitting a pair of former Continental foes was not going to be a pitcher’s dual. The Hatters scored three runs in the top of the first, and the Panthers answered with four in the bottom of the frame.
By the time it was over, the two teams had combined for 28 runs and 34 hits. The contest ended in dramatic fashion when – with two outs in the eighth inning – sophomore Maddie Moyer hit a grand slam.
“This was huge,” coach Rich Scott said. “I told them after the William Tennent game that even though it’s the second game of the season it’s the biggest game of the season so far.
“Going into the game, I knew this would tell me what kind of team we had because we have some freshmen on the team that are stepping up. I knew Hatboro was going to be a tough game. It was one inning after another – they scored, we scored. It was an exciting game.”
The ninth inning began with Paige Mott drawing a free pass. One out later, Abbey Schwartz delivered a sacrifice bunt that sent Mott to second. An infield single in the shortstop hole by Nikki Vanelli put runners on the corners. With two outs, Lauren Beal – who already had a pair of home runs – was given an intentional walk to load the bases.
“I just calmly went in and said to Maddie, ‘You should be mad because they just walked her to get to you,’” Scott said. “With a 1-0 count, she put it over the fence.”
Moyer was 2-for-5 on the day with five RBIs while Beal was 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored in a remarkably productive day. Her three-run home run highlighted a four-run first. Tara Baglivo was 3-for-5 with three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Sarah Stofik (2-for-5) and Mott (2-for-4, RBI) also turned in multi-hit performances.
The Hatters were led offensively by Britt Hubler, who was a near-perfect 4-for-5 with a triple, five RBIs and four runs scored. Kylie Flagler was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Contributing two hits each were Rachel Carney, Kyleigh Dinien, Brynn Griffith (double, triple, three RBIs), Taylor Sciubba and Maddy Yeager.
“Their first five hitters are good hitters, but they’re all slappers,” Scott said. “The power hitters won it today, but they have a great team.”
Quakertown (2-0, 1-0 SOL) is scheduled to host Wissahickon on Tuesday, and Hatboro-Horsham (2-1, 0-1) will host Springfield Township.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 11, CHELTENHAM 4
The Colonials brought their bats to Monday’s SOL opener, pounding out 15 hits and putting up 11 runs. Jen Byrne headed the list of offensive standouts with a 3-for-5 effort that included three runs scored. Josee Tassoni was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Julie Sassi was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Gianna Fazio was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
The Colonials seized control of the game early, plating three runs in both the first and second innings. In the second, Sassi and Fazio got the ball rolling with back-to-back singles, and Byrne and Ragan Ebersole followed with RBI singles.
PW took an 11-1 lead into the fifth inning when the Lady Panthers plated three runs.
Earning the win on the mound for the Colonials was Kayla Yeager, who allowed two earned runs and fanned seven.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 4, HARRY S TRUMAN 3
The Indians edged the Tigers to improve their early SOL record to 2-0. Lauren Begg pitched seven solid innings to earn the win, allowing three runs.
Offensively, Taylor Amazeen battled through the flu to go 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Julia Shields and Madison Tomlinson each also had an RBI.
Council Rock North (3-1, 2-0 SOL) will face Council Rock South on Saturday night at the Northampton Civic Center (6 p.m.).
Non-league
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 2 (9 innings)
The Golden Hawks didn’t generate a whole lot of offense off Wood ace Marissa Browne, who took a no hitter into the ninth inning.
“The credit goes to her, but we had a four-day layoff due to the prom and everything, so we hadn’t hit for four days,” coach Greg Heydet said. “You’ve got to give credit where credit is due, and Marissa Browne threw good.
“It was ugly defensively, but we’ll take it.”
A leadoff single by Phylicia Wilkov in the ninth set the stage for the game winner. Devon Bradley entered the game as a pinch runner, and she moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Emily Freed – who was safe at first when the throw pulled the first baseman off the bag. Sabrina Dobron’s sacrifice bunt set the stage for a rocket off the bat of Danielle Walters that, according to Heydet, went through the legs of the third baseman, plating the game winner.
Steph Andreoli threw six-plus innings, allowing one earned run on three hits while fanning five and walking four. Walters earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief. She struck out five.
“Stephanie and Danielle pitched well, but I just thought we were a little flat,” Heydet said. “Again, Marissa hit us at the right time, and she threw awesome.”
The Golden Hawks benefitted from inning-ending double plays in both the sixth and seventh innings. With one out and runners on first and second, Andreoli helped her own cause by turning a double play.
“A little blooper was hit between the pitcher and the catcher, and Stephanie laid out and dove for it – she caught it and threw to second for a double play,” Heydet said. “That was a big one.”
In the seventh inning with one out and the bases loaded, Walters snagged a grounder back to the circle and pulled the trigger on a home-to-first double play.
Council Rock South (2-0) is scheduled to host Abington on Tuesday.
