PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 12, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 11
The Colonials – after dropping their first eight games of the season – won for the third time this week, and this was their most impressive over a Perk Valley team that brought a 9-5 record into the contest.
“I am really proud of my players,” coach Ellen Reilly said. “They continue to push through the adversity of injuries to several varsity starters.
“The younger players who have been put in to fill those spots started the season feeling a lot of pressure. To their credit, they are working hard and starting to understand the game at the varsity level and are starting to handle the pressure and gain confidence in themselves. Our experienced players are helping to lead the way.”
The Colonials opened up an 8-3 halftime lead and then withstood a late comeback bid by the Vikings.
“Today Sam Ward played an excellent game on defense,” Reilly said. “She had four positive turnovers in blocks and interceptions.
“Her last block stopped Perk Valley’s momentum with 30 seconds left in the game when PV had a chance to tie the game.”
Ali Diamond and Vic Betterly led the Colonials with three goals and two assists. Lexi Petrakis added two goals and two assists, and Lily Hanlon had two goals. Amanda Fineman and Lucy Sullivan each added single goals.
