COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 8, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 5
‘This one’s for you, coach.’
The Golden Hawks capped a special night by pulling off their second remarkable comeback in as many days, this time rallying for five runs in the sixth inning to eke out a win in the nightcap of a benefit doubleheader at Northampton Recreation Center.
“Yesterday coming back from that 3-0 deficit to (Central Bucks) East and scoring four in the bottom of the seventh helped to give them confidence that they can score,” coach Greg Heydet said of his team’s 4-3 win over the Patriots. “It was just awesome.
“I don’t know what it was – maybe being the local game under the lights with everyone there.”
More than likely it was because the Golden Hawks had a little extra motivation to win it for their coach. There certainly was something almost magical about this one as it capped an emotional night set aside to bring awareness to ALS, a disease Heydet has been battling for eight years.
“(This was) for me and everyone else with ALS,” the Golden Hawks’ coach said after his team’s dramatic win.
The sixth inning began with back-to-back singles by Steph Andreoli and Melanie Wilkinson, who wound up on second and third with no outs after a passed ball. That set the stage for a suicide squeeze clinic by the Golden Hawks.
Sabrina Dobron laid down the first bunt and was safe at first. Phylicia Wilkov followed with a single, setting the stage for a suicide squeeze by Makenna Diamond, who also was safe at first. The Golden Hawks weren’t finished yet.
With runners on first and third, freshman Kylie Woloshyn laid down a suicide squeeze that scored the go-ahead run. Danielle Walters cleared the bases with one swing, ripping a double that plated a pair and put the Golden Hawks on top 8-5.
Walters also earned the win in the circle, closing out the game in relief of Andreoli and allowing just one run over the final three innings.
Walters was 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs to lead the Hawks. Diamond was 2-for-3.
“She also had two outstanding catches in left field that were big,” Heydet said of Diamond.
Catcher Sabrina Dobron threw out a pair of Rock North runners attempting to steal second.
"That was big too," Heydet said.
Wilkov and Woloshyn also both were 2-for-3.
“This game we needed big time,” Heydet said. “It was very big.”
Council Rock South (10-5, 4-4 SOL) will travel to Harry S Truman on Thursday, and Council Rock North (9-4, 6-3) will be on the road at Bensalem on Thursday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1, SOUDERTON 0 (8 innings)
With runners on second and third and one out in the eighth inning, an infield single by Steph Kuhns plated Hailey Aspinwall for the walk-off win.
“Steph hit a bouncer, and the (infielder) picked it up – she looked Hailey back, but Hailey had a nice lead,” East coach Karl Knapp said. “She decided to make the throw to first which allowed the run to come in.”
The game winner was set up after Aspinwall and Audrey Labouliere collected singles.
Giuliana Ruscio was impressive in the circle, allowing just three hits while striking out six and walking one.
“She really in essence has pitched back-to-back shutouts,” Knapp said. “She had a shutout going into the bottom of the seventh against Council Rock South, and we had three errors that gave them the game in the bottom of the seventh.
“She was on today, and so was (Alex) Scheeler. She did a great job for Souderton.”
Scheeler allowed seven hits, fanned four and walked one.
“In the beginning of the year, we were hitting like crazy,” Knapp said. “Now all of a sudden, it’s dried up.
“We’ve talked to them and gone through everything I can think of. Luckily, this game we played good defense. We gave it away yesterday on errors. This was important because we needed it.
“If we had lost this one, it would have been five straight losses, and that would have been bad news, and we’re on the bubble now for making (district) playoffs. We really can’t afford to lose a lot of games. It was a big win morale-wise to keep them up and to get back in the hunt to get in the playoffs.”
Labouliere, who was 2-for-4, was the only player from either side with more than one hit.
Alyssa McCormick, Mya Pritchard and Jen Klepfer accounted for Souderton’s three hits.
Central Bucks East (8-6, 5-3 SOL) will host Hatboro-Horsham on Wednesday in the third of four games in four days, and Souderton (2-10, 0-7) will host Pottsgrove in a non-league contest on Thursday.

UPPER MORELAND 6, HATBORO-HORSHAM 2
The Golden Bears scored runs in five of seven innings to earn the win and a split in Tuesday’s doubleheader.
“I’ll take that 10 out of 10 times,” UM coach Scott Ludlow said of the split. “This was, I think, our best game of the season.
“We were clean defensively, we put balls in play, and I can’t say enough about Jocelyn Baumeister. They hit a lot of popups, a lot of soft fly balls.”
Baumeister didn’t strike anyone out, but she also didn’t walk anyone, scattering eight hits. She also helped her own cause with a solo home run in the sixth.
Kayla Sawick led the Golden Bears, going 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with three runs scored. Chloe Tie was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Noelle Woodman was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.

QUAKERTOWN 12, UPPER DUBLIN 5
The last time these two teams met the Panthers earned a 21-15 win, and although both teams cut down their run production considerably, Tuesday’s rematch featured plenty of offense as the two teams combined for 36 hits with the Panthers collecting 21 of those.
Three Quakertown players – despite the absence of a fence – hit home runs. Abbey Schwartz and Sarah Stofik both hit their first varsity round trippers. Schwartz was 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Stofik was 3-for-5 with a triple, home run, five RBIs and three runs. Halle Frederick was 3-for-5 with a double. Contributing two hits each were Tara Baglivo (2-for-4, double, RBI, 2 runs), Lauren Beal (2-for-5, home run, 3 RBIs, run), Ryan Kemmerling (2-for-3, run) and Brianna Lefkoski (2-for-3, 2 runs).
The Cardinals had some big hitters of their own. Erin Gallagher was 3-for-3 while Jackie McMenamin, Brianna Parker and Meghan Muth each added a pair of hits. Sarah Tannenbaum’s home run highlighted a two-run fourth for the Cardinals.

CHELTENHAM 9, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 8
Cheltenham earned its first win of the season on Monday, but it wasn’t easy.
The Lady Panthers found themselves staring at an 8-2 deficit heading into the top of the seventh. Unfazed, they scored seven runs in the frame.
“It was a great thrill for us,” coach Ron Perlstein said. “It was fun to see them experience that, especially that way. I don’t recall a comeback like that.”
Morgan Gianelle’s two run triple made it and 8-4 game.
“She’s tearing the hide off the ball,” said Perlstein of his Marist commit. “She’s seeing the ball very, very well, and she’s really just relaxed and hitting. It’s nice to watch.”
Shelly Laychock followed with an RBI single that plated Gianelle. A walk was followed by a single from Shannon Nichols to load the bases, and after a huge strikeout, Lara Eisensmidts stepped to the plate with the Lady Panthers down to their last out.
“She put the ball in play – she hit kind of a slow roller between short and second,” Perlstein said.
A Spartan miscue allowed three runs – including the tying run – to cross the plate.
“They had some mistakes, and we took advantage of them,” Perlstein said.
Vita Blair-Kraybill’s single drove in the go-ahead run, and she threw a one-two-three seventh to put the finishing touches on the win.
Cheltenham (1-10, 1-7 SOL) will travel to Upper Moreland on Thursday, and Springfield Township (1-9 1-8 SOL) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Thursday.
