Boys
BENSALEM 4, CHURCH FARM SCHOOL 2
The Owls picked up their second win in as many days, scoring four goals for the second time in as many games, but they had to come from behind to win it.
Robbie Montero – who is averaging close to a goal a game – put the Owls on the scoreboard in the 15th minute. Gio Saez had the assist.
“It was a throw-in, and Robbie was able to carry it down the end line and just beat the keeper,” said coach Lew Mladjen. “He’s just got real quick feet. It was a nice finish.”
Church Farm responded with back-to-back goals – including one off the tap – to go into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
“Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect from Church Farm School, and they were athletic as anything,” Mladjen said. “They had a couple of players on that team that just could run all day. They would challenge for every single ball.
“We were going blind into it, and I think the athleticism they brought really surprised us. I lit a little bit of a fire into them with my halftime speech.”
In the 47th minute, Saez scored the equalizer off a corner kick.
“He bent it near post, and the keeper came to try and make a save on it, but it was one of those bang-bang plays,” Mladjen said.
Kyle McVicar scored the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute.
“They had cleared the box, and he had taken a touch from about 25 yards out, and he just put his foot down and just buried it,” Mladjen said.
In the 72nd minute, Kal Ivanov found the net with an assist from Dylan Molina for the 4-2 final.
“I couldn’t be happier with the way we played in the second half,” Mladjen said. “Unfortunately, we were playing from behind again, but the boys responded well.”
The Owls’ coach credited Alfardy Ali for his contributions.
“He’s not showing up the last three games in the stat line, but he’s the one that’s making everything happen for everybody else,” Mladjen said of his striker. “He’s putting in a lot of the hard work that doesn’t show up in goals and assists, but everybody else is really feeding off of his work rate.”
All three of Bensalem’s losses this season have been by identical 3-2 scores.
“We’ve been scoring goals,” Mladjen said. “We haven’t scored less than two goals in a game yet. The problem has been locking things down once we even it up or get ahead. It’s nice to see these last two games the boys were really able to put it together a little bit more and play from the front for the most part. It’s nice to get two wins and this should give them confidence.”

LANSDALE CATHOLIC 5, WISSAHICKON 4
The visiting Crusaders opened up a 3-0 halftime lead only to watch the Trojans battle back.
"It was an awesome character team-building game," coach Shannon Franke said. "Coming off a very tough loss to Hatboro-Horsham less than 24 hours earlier and falling behind 3-0 against a tough team so quickly in the heat, it would have been very easy for this young team to fold up tent. Instead, they fought through it."
Keeping the Crusaders in it was goalkeeper Quinn Klessel with some key saves and, according to Franke, some post luck. Klessel finished the game with seven saves.
In the second half, the Trojans found their offensive stride with four goals – one shy of the total they'ed scored in their five previous games combined.
"Part of the puzzle was eliminating LC's number 14 as a threat," Franke said. "Captain Sam Comonitski stepped in for Rachel Cohan in the second half to do just that. Playing man-to-man, she did not give up an inch."
On offense, senior captain Alexis Smith connected for a hat trick, scoring at minutes 60:09, 61:20 and 71:41. The goals – one a PK – were assisted by Anna Schools, Carly Amado and Lieke Black and described by Franke as "phenomenal." On a set piece, Victoria Selverian capitalized, shooting on frame.
"She was very composed and in control to add to the tally," Franke said. "It was not a 'W' but it is exactly the kind of game a young team can rally around. A night to day turnaround."
Wissahickon (0-6, 0-4 SOL) will host Cheltenham on Tuesday.
Lansdale Catholic 3-2 5
Wissahickon 0-4 4
