Something had to give.
Both Truman and Cheltenham were looking for their first win of the season when the two teams met in a non-league contest. The Tigers seized the moment, erupting for three first-half goals on their way to the no-doubt-about it win.
“It was so special to the girls to finally see their hard work pay off with their first win,” coach Dipi Bhaya said. “We have seen little victories throughout the season, but it is sweeter when it is reflected on the scoreboard.”
Jaleezia Gibson set the tone for this one early, scoring her first of two goals less than two minutes into the contest. With 11:23 remaining in the first half, Grace Sutton found the back of the cage, and a goal by Grace Pool sent the Tigers into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Gibson opened the second-half scoring with a goal assisted by Stacey Reinecker, and Tristen Delello put the finishing touches on the Tigers’ offensive outburst with a goal midway through the half assisted by Chrissie Huhn.
“I was really pleased with the girls today because we haven’t been able to score,” said Bhaya. “It’s a confidence booster for these guys.”
Truman goalie Kyra Martin – who was coming off back-to-back games of close to 20 saves – recorded four saves in the shutout win.
“She’s been big for us,” Bhaya said. “The big thing is that Truman is just learning, and I’m super excited because the first half of the season was learning the skills to now the second part where we’re really starting to come together. It’s going to take some time.”
Harry S Truman (1-9, 0-7) is off until Wednesday when the Tigers will host Council Rock South. Cheltenham (0-11, 0-8) will host Springfield Township on Monday.

PENNSBURY 8, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0
The intensity level will ratchet way up next week for the Pennsbury field hockey team, who has dates with Abington – the only team this year to score more than one goal against the Falcons – and Neshaminy – the second-place team in the Suburban One National Conference who sits just a game behind.
Pennsbury had its final tuneup for the start of the stretch drive that begins at Abington Monday as the Falcons defeated Hatboro-Horsham 8-0 Thursday afternoon. Nell Webber and Samie Hackman had two goals each, and Anna Sharp, Maya Geller and Kate Chesney each had a goal and assist.
The win improved Pennsbury to 9-2 overall, while Hatboro-Horsham slipped to 1-10. Pennsbury is 7-0 in the SOL National.
"This was a good week for us," said Pennsbury coach Jamie Parell, whose team outscored Truman, Bensalem and Hatboro-Horsham by a combined 17-0 in a four-day span. "Everybody got to play a lot. We had a lot of different girls who scored goals. Now we have a huge week ahead of us, and then another huge week after that. We need to stay focused, and we need to bring intensity."
First up is Abington, whom Pennsbury defeated 6-3 the first time around. Then it'll be Neshaminy at Pennsbury Thursday; Neshaminy's only league loss was 3-1 to Pennsbury.
Those games are for next week. For the game at Hatboro-Horsham, Hackman started the scoring six minutes into the game, and it was 3-0 after 13 minutes after Webber drove in her first of the day and then Maddie Hackman rocketed one of her own off of Sharp's cross.
Annie Price then dribbled down the right side and passed into the circle to Chesney, who crossed it to Hackman for her second of the day. Price then fed Webber for her second as well, and it was 5-0.
The lead grew to 7-0 at the break off of goals from Geller and Chesney, that one assisted by Geller. Sharp scored the only goal of the second half.
H-H goalie Liz Wilburn made 18 saves.
Hatboro-Horsham will host Upper Moreland on Monday.

WISSAHICKON 1, WILLIAM TENNENT 0
Senior Ellen Kane scored in the second half with an assist from Sammi Pak. That’s all the Trojans would need to shut out the Panthers in a tough non-league battle.
Trojan goalie Meghan Reilly had four saves in the shutout win.
Wissahickon (7-3, 6-2 SOL) will travel to Plymouth Whitemarsh on Monday, and William Tennent (2-9, 0-7) will host Lansdale Catholic in a non-league game Monday.
