COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2, VILLA JOSEPH MARIE 0
Twenty-four hours after battling perennial district power Pennsbury to a 0-0 tie, the Golden Hawks – seeded second in the District One 4A power rankings – took the field to face a Jems squad that is the top seed in the Class 3A power rankings.
The Golden Hawks took care of business in a hurry, scoring a pair of first-half goals. Callie Deola scored both goals – the first with a Sammy Jones assist and the second unassisted. That 2-0 lead stood the rest of the way.
Coach Nick Heim acknowledged the strong play of his squad.
“Emily Helmich was fantastic in goal, and Sammy Jones, Julie Rebh and Paige Mikula battled all game,” the Golden Hawks’ coach said. “A lot of girls contributed a ton of minutes between yesterday and today, so it was a total team effort.”
Council Rock South (14-1-1, 9-0-1 SOL) will travel to Bensalem on Monday for a 7 p.m. contest.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 1, LOWER MORELAND 1 (2 OT)
The Spartans were forced to settle for a tie, but as ties go, this was a good one against a Lions’ squad that has lost just once this season and is seeded fourth in the latest District One 3A rankings.
“They’re a good team,” coach Suzette Wolf said. “If we had kept the game close and lost, it would have been a good game, but the fact that we were able to keep the game close and tie them was outstanding, fantastic.”
The Spartans got on the scoreboard 15 minutes into the second half.
“It was a corner kick by Sarah Potocki and sort of off the head of Emily Cooney, and then Lindsey Smith walked it into the net, so it was a three-person effort,” Wolf said.
The Lions came back to knot the score with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, setting the stage for double overtime.
“It was a back and forth game,” Wolf said. “I would say neither team dominated. We both just played really hard.
“They play a very possessive, controlled game. They’re a very good team. We just marked man-to-man all over the field and hustled. We didn’t give them an inch.”
The Spartans’ coach lauded the efforts of several players.
“Sarah Potocki played sweeper for us and just controlled the back,” Wolf said. “Emma Lindsay, our goalie, came up big today and did all the right things. I was really happy with her play. She came off her line to cut a lot of passes off that she hasn’t been doing, so it was really effective.
“Rileigh Serroni came off the bench as a reserve player and just really gave our team a spark in the overtime play when we were dead tired. She hadn’t played the whole game, and she came in and just ran around like crazy.
“Freshman Hannah Potocki really sparked our offense today. Emily Walsh also played well. She’s just played hard all season. She’s that unsung hero for us.”
