Saint Joseph’s rookie Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks East) turned in the top performance by a freshman at the Leopard Invitational 8K race on Saturday, crossing in 27:06.6 for fourth place.
Villanova sophomore Casey Comber (Hatboro-Horsham) placed sixth overall with a time of 25:25 over 8,000 meters at the Penn State National Open on Friday.
Gettysburg freshman Dylan McKeever (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 29:05 at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, finishing 118th out of 256 runners. The Bullets finished 10th in a field of 25 teams that included Division I, II, III and unattached teams. Gettysburg placed seventh out of 19 Division III schools.
Cairn University sophomore Joel Varughese (Bensalem) posted a time of 27:55.4 to finish 54th at the DeSales University Invitational last Saturday. In Cairn’s own Highlander 4K Invitational, Varughese finished first with a time of 13:16.795 to break the course record.
Bloomsburg sophomore Declan McDonald (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 27:28.6 to finish in 34th place at the DeSales Invitational last Saturday. It was McDonald’s best result of the season and his second fastest mark of the year. Redshirt senior James Wilson (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 28:38.2 to finish 85th out of 271 runners. Bloomsburg finished fourth overall out of 28 schools.
Jefferson senior Saadeddine Traboulsi (Bensalem) placed 21st overall with a time of 32:59.8 at the Bryn Athyn Invitational on Friday.
Penn State Abington freshman Dominic Pignatelli (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 41:46 at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. In last Saturday’s DeSales Invitational, Pignatelli finished with a time of 32:36.
Shippensburg senior Alex Balla (Quakertown) served as SU’s fifth and final scoring performer, posting a 10th place finish in 26:32 at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational last Saturday.
Kutztown’s Teagan Fortna (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 29:42.3 at the Bulldog Invitational on the campus of DeSales University last Saturday.

Lehigh freshman Hannah Knudsen (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a time of 23:17 at the Penn State National Open on Friday.
Kutztown junior Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) led the way for the fourth straight meet, finishing fourth overall on the 6K course out of 224 runners with a time of 22:52.3 at the Bulldog Invitational at DeSales University last Saturday.
LaSalle’s Kaitlin Poiesz (Central Bucks South) crossed the finish line with a time of 23:04.5 at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday.
Delaware Valley University freshman Brynn Reese (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 31:08.5 at the 29th annual Gettysburg College Invitational on Saturday.
Elizabethtown senior Kelsey Brady (Council Rock South) finished third at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational, posting a time of 22:55.7 in her first 6,000-meter race of the season on Saturday. Elizabethtown won the team title.
Shippensburg junior Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) paced the Raiders for just the second time in her collegiate career with a fifth place time of 18:45 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday. Junior Lindsey Gerlach (Central Bucks West) posted a top 40 finish in 20:15. Katie Booth (Council Rock North) posted a time of 21:36.4, and Abbie Todd (Council Rock North) finished in 22:23.7.
FIELD HOCKEY
Freshman Reilly Finegan (Central Bucks East) scored her first career goal in Drexel’s 4-0 win over Bryant. Junior Katie Bagdon (Council Rock South) notched her first tally of the season on a penalty stroke in the second half.
Senior Rachael Mueller (William Tennent) scored a goal five minutes into the second half to tie the score 1-1 in Temple’s 3-2 win over UC Davis in overtime.
Sophomore Andrea Baldus (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a goal in DeSales University’s 5-0 win over Drew University.
Senior Emily Hawkins (Cheltenham) recorded one save in Keystone College’s 4-0 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 4-2 loss to Immaculata, Hawkins was credited with six saves.

Kristin Donohue (Council Rock South) contributed an assist in No. 1 Messiah College’s 6-1 win over Gettysburg on Wednesday night. In last Saturday’s 5-1 win over Stevenson, Donohue recorded two assists, which moved her up to sixth place in the Messiah record books for career assists with 31. In Messiah’s 4-0 win over defending DII National Champion Shippensburg, Donohue contributed an assist on the first goal of the game. Shelby Landes (Souderton) recorded three saves in goal in the shutout win that avenged Messiah’s only loss of 2016.
Rachel Gorman (Central Bucks South) recorded a defensive save in Lebanon Valley’s 4-1 setback to Lynchburg.
Emma McLaughlin (Quakertown) set up a goal in the 28th minute with an assist in Villanova’s 1-0 win over Lafayette last Sunday.
Jules Singer (Council Rock North) was credited with five saves in Ursinus College’s 2-1 loss to No. 4 TCNJ on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Muhlenberg, Singer finished with four saves – three in the second half. In the Bears’ 4-0 win over Haverford, Singer stopped all three shots she faced en route to her seventh career shutout.
Marissa Elizardo (North Penn) made two saves in No. 8 West Chester’s 2-0 win over Kutztown on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Mansfield, Elizardo posted a shutout in 70 minutes of action.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Madison Reiss (Pennridge) earned a spot on the CSAC Field Hockey Honor Roll for the week ending Oct. 1. The Pennridge graduate notched a pair of defensive saves in the Griffins’ 4-1 win over Washington College. Overall, the team went 2-0 with a win over Notre Dame of Maryland in their season opener.

In last Sunday's 2-1 shootout victory over No. 13 Harvard, McGovern scored during the shootout. In BC's 4-0 win over New Hampshire, McGovern scored the fourth goal on a breakaway.
FOOTBALL
Junior Josh Adams (Central Bucks South) had 118 yards, including 73-yard touchdown, on 13 carries in No. 21 Notre Dame’s 33-10 win over North Carolina last Saturday.
Redshirt freshman Branden Mack (Cheltenham) grabbed his first career reception in Temple’s 34-10 win over East Carolina University last Saturday.
Delaware Valley University senior Nick Wright (North Penn) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week following his performance in the Aggies’ 41-6 victory at No. 24 Albright College on Oct. 7. He also was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Defensive Player of the Week for his effort. It is the second time this season that Wright received the conference and national accolade. In the game against Albright, Wright had six tackles and scored two touchdowns – one on a 58-yard interception return and the other on a five-yard return of a blocked punt. He is the first known defensive player in program history to score multiple touchdowns in a game, and he was actually the team’s third leading scorer with 20 points (three touchdowns and a safety). Wright helped anchor a defense that allowed just 34 rushing yards and forced three turnovers while keeping the previously undefeated Lions off the scoreboard until the final six minutes of the game.
Wright had four tackles in No. 6 Delaware Valley University’s 49-14 win over King’s College on Saturday.
Redshirt sophomore JR Stevens (Neshaminy) picked off a pair of passes in No. 3/2 IUP’s 34-17 win at No. 9/13 Slippery Rock on Saturday.
Sophomore quarterback Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) completed 19-of-27 passes for 182 yards in Ursinus College’s 21-14 loss to Muhlenberg last Saturday. Sophomore Stacey Gardner (Upper Dublin) had 47 yards on 11 carries, which included an 11-yard touchdown run.
Junior Josh Lister (Souderton) had a hand in four tackles in Shippensburg’s 37-27 loss to West Chester last Saturday.
Alec Rosenfeld (Bensalem) nailed a 40-yard field goal as time expired in the first half of Kutztown’s 41-9 victory over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 23-7 victory at Bloomsburg, Rosenfeld capped a nine-play, 36-yard drive in the third quarter with a 31-yard field goal. Josh Lee (Abington) caught a 13-yard touchdown pass that gave KU a 10-0 lead. The win represented the first time since 1992 that KU won at Bloomsburg.
Sophomore quarterback Michael Marino (Wissahickon) completed 8-of-11 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown in Chestnut Hill’s 30-18 Collegiate Sprint Football League victory at Mansfield last Saturday.
Freshman Michael Cottom (Upper Dublin) had an interception in Lock Haven’s 62-0 win over Cheyney last Saturday.
Senior defensive end George Shipp (North Penn) registered a pair of sacks and two quarterback hurries in West Chester’s 37-27 win over Shippensburg last Saturday. He finished with four tackles on the day.
MEN’S GOLF
Cabrini senior Clay Anders (Souderton) entered the second round of the Gino Biondi Memorial Tournament tied for 24th after shooting an 83 on Saturday. In last weekend’s Stevens University Fall Invitational, Anders finished in 10th place with a round of 79 to help lead Cabrini to a fourth place finish.
Penn State Abington freshman Shane Nocito (Harry S Truman) finished in eighth place out of 44 golfers with a score of 82 at the NEAC Fall Preview on Tuesday.
Saint Joseph’s sophomore Tommy Lewis (Central Bucks East) tied for 51st at 79 in the opening round of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational. He finished the invitational in 69th with a score of 79-82/161.
La Salle freshman David Kim (Upper Dublin) shot a one-under par 69, tying the freshman record for low 18-hole score, on the final day of the Bucknell Invitational last Sunday. Kim carded four birdies and three bogeys to register the top individual 18-hole score of the fall campaign for La Salle. Kim played the final seven holes at one-under par to close in a tie for 12th for the tournament.
Temple freshman Dawson Anders (Souderton) shot a final round of 73 to place 24th overall at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. The tournament was played at the par-72 Firestone Country Club North Course.
WOMEN’S GOLF
West Chester’s Juliarose Genuardi (North Penn) finished second at the Kutztown Fall Invitational, carding a 79 and finishing with a total of 160 for the 36-hole event.
MEN’S SOCCER
Shippensburg University junior Cole Kropnick (Wissahickon) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. He is the first SU honoree in nearly four years. Kropnick had both of Shippensburg’s game-winning goals in a 2-0 week. In the Raiders 1-0 win over Bloomsburg, Kropnick scored the golden goal 1:37 into double overtime. In Shippensburg’s 2-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown, Kropnick scored 53 seconds into the match. With three remaining weeks, Kropnick is tied for the conference lead in goals (10) and game-winning goals (three). Kropnick is the first SU player to be named PSAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week since Oct. 28, 2013.
Daniel Grindrod (Neshaminy) delivered a cross that set up the game-winning goal in No. 13 West Chester’s 1-0 win over Gannon Friday. In West Chester’s 3-2 win over No. 11 Millersville, Grindrod contributed an assist on the first goal of the game.
Matt Robinson (North Penn) scored the first three goals of the game in La Salle’s 5-3 win over George Washington on Wednesday night. The North Penn graduate, who leads the team in goals this season, added on goals five, six and seven. The speedy forward broke a scoreless tie 37 minutes into the first half on a deflection of a free kick just outside the box. He struck again on a penalty kick to put the Explorers up 2-0. His third goal came in the 81st minute.
Redshirt senior Connor Stackhouse (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist in Holy Family’s 5-0 win over Chestnut Hill.
Junior Nick Miller (North Penn) scored his third goal of the season in Delaware Valley’s 2-0 shutout of host Penn State York.
Freshman John Griffin (Pennsbury) scored his third goal of the season in Cabrini’s 4-1 win over Clarks Summit on Saturday. In Cabrini’s 5-0 win at Centenary, Griffin scored his first goal of the season.
Freshman Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin) scored a pair of goals to lead Penn State Abington to a 3-1 win over Gallaudet on Saturday. With the score deadlocked 1-1, Palomeque corralled a ball at the top of the box and fired a shot to the top shelf to give the Nittany Lions a lead. Later in the second half, he connected on his second goal with a curling shot that went just inside the left post. Earlier, Thomas Vessels (Abington) chipped a cross to Michael Albers (William Tennent), who finished the ball with a header to tie the match 1-1. In last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Wells College, Palomeque beat a defender to net his third goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1. Albers scored the game-winning goal.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Matt Bachmann (Abington) earned a spot on the CSAC Honor Roll for the week ending Oct. 8. In the Griffins’ 2-1 win over Cairn for their first win of the season, Bachmann headed in the eventual game-winning goal with less than seven minutes in regulation.
Bachmann netted the lone goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 4-1 loss to Marywood on Wednesday.
Junior Kevin McKenna (North Penn) registered his second goal of the season to help drive Widener to a 1-1 draw in double overtime against Hood. McKenna got the Blue and Gold on the board after beating two defenders outside the 18 to create enough space for himself to loft the ball over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Junior Michaela Finneyfrock (Council Rock North) had a goal and two assists in Saint Joseph’s 4-2 win over Dayton last Sunday. In St. Joe’s 1-0 loss to VCU, goalkeeper Grace Bendon (Central Bucks West) had a game-high six saves.
Penn State senior Megan Schafer (Neshaminy) was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. This is the first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award for Schafer. In Penn State’s 2-0 victory over Michigan, Schafer netted her third goal of the season to put the Nittany Lions up 2-0 in the 76th minute. Penn State closed out the weekend with a 4-0 victory over Michigan State. Schafer scored two goals on two shot attempts. Between the two matches, Schafer scored three goals on four shot attempts. All-time at Penn State, Schafer now ranks 16th in points (77) and is tied for 15th in goals scored (30).
Junior Marissa Sheva (Pennridge) had the assist on the game-winning goal in No. 13 Penn State’s 1-0 overtime win in Sunday’s contest at Maryland. With the win, Penn State moves to within one point of Ohio State for the top spot in the Big Ten standings with two matches remaining. In last Sunday’s 4-0 win over Michigan State, Schafer netted the first two goals. Sheva had one assist. In last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Michigan, Schafer made a run up the right half of the pitch in the 76th minute. Teammate Charlotte Williams placed a perfect through ball to her right foot, and Schafer finished to the bottom left corner for her third goal of the season.
Freshman Shannon McGuinn (William Tennent) contributed an assist on the golden goal in Allegheny’s 4-3 win over DePauw on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Hiram, McGuinn contributed a pair of goals.
Jessica Supp (Pennridge) had an assist in Bloomsburg’s 4-2 loss at Seton Hill on Friday. In Bloomsburg’s 4-3 come-from-behind win over Shippensburg, Supp had the assist on the Huskies’ first goal.
Sophomore midfielder Nicole Abbott (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an assist in East Stroudsburg’s 3-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Friday.
Junior Brianna Rock (Bensalem) scored a pair of goals in Holy Family’s 3-1 win over Felician University on Saturday afternoon. In last Sunday’s 4-3 win over Post University, Rock had the assist on the game-winning goal. In Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Chestnut Hill, Rock contributed a goal and an assist.
Junior midfielder Megan Engeland (Pennsbury) scored the game-winning goal to give Washington & Lee a 2-1 win at Roanoke on Tuesday. Engeland, who received the ball at the top of the box, took two touches and then struck the ball with her left foot, sending it into the far corner of the goal with 15.5 seconds left on the clock for the game-winner. It was the ninth goal of the year for Engeland and her third game-winning tally. In Washington & Lee’s 3-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite University, Engeland scored a goal 43 seconds into the second half to give the Generals a 2-0 lead.
Senior Kristen Upton (Central Bucks South) contributed a goal and an assist in McDaniel’s 4-0 win over Haverford on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 8-1 win over Bryn Mawr, Upton scored off a corner to make it a 5-1 game at halftime.
Sophomore Alyssa Antonelly (Neshaminy) was credited with an assist on her free kick in Millersville’s 3-1 loss at Slippery Rock on Friday.
Senior Crissy Terraces (Plymouth Whitemarsh) broke a scoreless tie in the 84th minute to lead Albright to a 1-0 win over local rival Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon. In last Saturday’s 1-0 overtime win over Lebanon Valley, Terraces scored in the 93rd minute. Her goal came on the best offensive chance that either team had on the day. She dribbled around two defenders on the right side before planting and driving a low shot past the keeper. The goal was her fifth of the season, tops on the Lions’ roster. It also was her fourth game-winning goal of the year.
Paige McDowell (Council Rock South) found the back of the net for the first time this season on a free kick from 47 yards out in La Salle’s 6-2 win over Massachusetts last Sunday. Emily Wilkinson (Council Rock South) set up the final goal with her corner kick.
Jefferson senior Amy Heller (Neshaminy) was named the CACC Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. Heller tallied her first point of the season in Jefferson’s 5-1 win over Concordia. The Neshaminy graduate took a free kick from a few yards inside midfield to set up the goal.
Jefferson sophomore Emily Discavage (Council Rock South) was named to the CACC Honor Roll for the week ending Oct. 8. The CR South graduate scored the game-winning goal in the squad’s 1-0 shutout against Goldey-Beacom. It was her first goal of the season and the second of her career.

Hopkins recorded her seventh clean sheet of the year with one save. In Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Notre Dame of Maryland, Hopkins made one stop. In last Saturday’s 10-0 road win at Clarks Summit, Braeunle had a pair of goals. Cassidy Rudd (Pennsbury) contributed an assist. Hopkins recorded one save and also was credited with an assist. In the Griffins’ 4-0 win over Neumann, Hopkins recorded eight saves for the team’s fifth shutout of the year. Sarah Nedwick (North Penn) contributed an assist.

Haley Miller (North Penn) netted the game-winning goal with only minutes remaining in the second overtime in Penn State Abington’s 3-2 victory over Gallaudet on Saturday. The North Penn graduate also scored one of the quickest goals in program history with only 1:23 off the clock. In the Nittany Lions’ 3-0 win over Cairn, Miller scored a pair of goals.

Mullin made one save en route to her third win of the season.

Marywood University senior Brooke Labs (Pennridge) earned NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year. To be selected, student-athletes must earn a 3.5 grade point average or higher.

Charlie Rushing (Pennsbury) was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-6 win in West Chester’s 7-2 loss to Fairmont State last Saturday. In West Chester’s 8-1 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas, Rushing was part of an 8-4 win at first doubles.

Saint Joseph’s Maureen Devlin (Wissahickon) was part of a doubles team that posted an 8-2 win in their opening match of the Women’s ITA Atlantic Regional on Friday and advanced to the round of 32.

Junior Jaime Bonner (William Tennent) contributed 13 kills and senior Cecilia Wier (William Tennent) had 12 digs in Holy Family’s 3-2 win over Caldwell University on Saturday evening. In Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Wilmington University, Bonner totaled 10 kills with a .258 attack percentage. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Concordia College, Bonner finished with seven kills. In Holy Family’s 3-1 loss to Jefferson, Bonner had six kills and two block assists.
Kate Woolsey (Central Bucks East) had eight kills and 18 digs in Delaware Valley University’s 3-2 loss to Cairn University on Thursday. In Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Manhattanville, Woolsey had three kills and a team-high 11 digs. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over the College of Staten Island, Woolsey led the squad with 17 digs and seven service aces to go along with six kills. In Del Val’s 3-0 loss to FDU Fordham, Woolsey had four kills and seven digs.
Cabrini freshman Steph Judkins (Pennridge) was named the Division III South Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season for the week ending Oct. 8. She also was named CSAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Judkins led the Blue and White to a trio of wins, totaling 50 kills and 23 digs. Judkins leads the CSAC with 4.07 kills while her .296 hitting percentage ranks second.
Judkins posted her ninth double-double with a match-high 12 kills and 11 digs in Cabrini’s 3-1 win over McDaniel College. Freshman Morgan Collito (Council Rock North) narrowly missed a double-double, posting nine kills and 12 digs. In the Blue and White’s 3-0 win over Haverford later in the day, Collito had eight kills, nine digs and a season-high five service aces. Judkins earned team-high honors with nine digs while freshman Lauren Coscia (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had six digs. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Neumann, Judkins led the Cavaliers with 14 kills and 16 digs. Collito added six kills. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Widener in a tri-match, Judkins posted 21 kills and 11 digs, and Collito added 11 kills. In the Cavaliers’ 3-0 win over Stockton, Judkins and Collito combined for 23 kills. Both also had two service aces. Junior Haley Sheehan (Quakertown) had 15 kills in Cairn University’s 3-2 win over Delaware Valley on Thursday. In Cairn’s 3-0 loss to Marywood, Sheehan had seven digs, and in Cairn’s loss to Keystone in the tri-match, Sheehan led the attack with seven kills.
Junior Cori Watson (Souderton) had a season-high eight kills and also had 13 assists in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 loss to Gallaudet on Friday. In last Saturday’s tri-match with Nichols College (2-3) and Eastern Connecticut (0-3), Watson racked up 44 digs for the day. In the Nittany Lions’ 3-2 win over Bryn Athyn, Watson recorded seven service aces and 20 digs.
Senior Taylor McCartney (Pennsbury) produced 12 digs in her first career start at libero in Ursinus College’s 3-0 loss to Franklin & Marshall last Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Muhlenberg, sophomore Miranda Foster (Neshaminy) recorded five kills.
Junior Bridget Terrel (Central Bucks East) had seven kills to just one error, hitting .462 in Shippensburg’s 3-0 win over Cheyney on Friday night.
Cait Saalfrank (Pennridge) notched a team-high 11 digs in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-0 loss to Rutgers-Camden on Friday. In the Griffins’ 3-0 loss to King’s, Cassie McCarney (William Tennent) had five kills and 11 digs.
Holly Owen (Hatboro-Horsham) had four kills in Kutztown’s 3-0 loss to East Stroudsburg on Tuesday. In last Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Shippenburg, Owen had nine kills. In KU’s 3-0 loss at Millersville, Owen posted a team-high 7.5 points with six kills and two blocks.
