BASEBALL
Mike Christy (North Penn) hit a two-run home run and finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in Elizabethtown’s 20-11 win over Muskingum in Fort Pierce, Fla. Brennan Snyder (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and Nick Bein (Abington) contributed a triple and RBI. In Elizabethtown’s 6-1 win over Dominican (Ill.), Snyder’s RBI single accounted for his team’s only run. In the Blue Jays’ 9-5 loss to Arcadia, Snyder had a pair of hits.
Shaun Stackhouse (Council Rock South) was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Cabrini’s 10-4 win over Grove City in Auburndale, Fla. In Cabrini’s 3-1 win over St. Mary’s University, Stackhouse singled and drove in a run. In the Cavaliers’ 10-2 loss to Augustana in game one of a twinbill split, Stackhouse was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs out of the leadoff spot. In Cabrini’s 6-5 win over Augustana, Stackhouse was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Brendan Giampa (Souderton) struck out a pair and did not allow a hit in a scoreless seventh to earn the saves in Delaware Valley University’s 13-8 win over Centenary in game two of a doubleheader split last Sunday.
Brett Moyer (Souderton) was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Nick Ponente (Council Rock South) had an RBI in Arcadia’s 10-5 win over Rowan on Tuesday. In Arcadia’s 9-5 win over Elizabethtown, Moyer had a hit and drove in a pair of runs.
Anthony Rigous (Council Rock North) contributed an RBI double in IUP’s 5-2 win over Winston Salem State in Saturday’s doubleheader split.
Joe Molettiere (Pennridge) allowed just one hit and one run in five innings and was not involved in the decision in Monmouth’s 2-1 loss to Delaware on Saturday. In Friday’s 15-2 win over the University of Delaware, Ricky Dennis (Central Bucks South) threw six strong innings and picked up his first win of the year and first since Feb. 24, 2017, at Furman. He tied a season low with just one walk allowed. In last Sunday’s 7-3 win over George Washington, freshman Dan Klepchick (Central Bucks South) earned the win on the mound, striking out seven and walking none while allowing five hits and one run in six innings. He is Monmouth’s first pitcher with two wins this season.
First-year catcher Jake Jones (Neshaminy) hit a two-RBI double in the fourth inning to pull Eastern within a pair of runs in the Eagles’ 13-5 loss to Stevenson on Saturday.
Kevin Barron (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and double in Campbell’s 17-3 win over Bowling Green last Sunday.
Colton Hooker (Upper Moreland) had a two-run double and scored a run, and Cole Swiger (Upper Dublin) was 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in Bloomsburg’s 13-4 win over West Virginia State on Saturday in Wilson, N.C. In last Sunday’s 3-2 loss to No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas, freshman Jake Reed (Quakertown) laid down a run-scoring bunt. In last Saturday’s 5-2 win over No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas in game one of a twinbill sweep, Swiger was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and an RBI.
Freshman Ryan McCarty (Pennsbury) hit a two-run home run in Penn State Abington’s 13-3 win over DeSales on Friday in Auburndale, Fla. In Thursday’s 12-2 rout of Greensburo, McCarty was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, and Kyle Marshall (Pennsbury) was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored. In Monday’s 15-12 win over King’s College, McCarty doubled, drove in a run and scored two runs. Junior Brett Guaglionona (Abington) doubled and scored a run. In last Sunday’s 9-1 win over Emerson, Marshall was 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. In the Nittany Lions’ 11-4 win over Lyndon State, McCarty was 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored.
Kadar Namey (North Penn) hit a two-run home run in Saint Joseph’s 8-5 loss to Western Michigan on Saturday.
Junior Carter Usowski (Central Bucks East) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Ursinus College’s 8-6 win over Occidental on Saturday in Los Angeles, Calif. Freshman Jerry Scavone (Neshaminy) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. In Friday’s 13-7 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, freshman Eric Gross (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. In the Bears’ 24-12 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the second game of the twinbill, Usowski was 4-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Scavone contributed an RBI single. In Monday’s 10-5 loss to Redlands, Usowski doubled and scored two runs. Scavone singled and drove in two runs in his collegiate debut.
Timothy Brodhag (William Tennent) went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs in Jefferson University’s 20-12 loss to Alderson Broaddus last Sunday.
Nick Mulvey (Gwynedd Mercy) had a pair of hits, one RBI and two runs in Gwynedd Mercy’s 17-7 win over Saint Vincent on Wednesday in Winter Haven, Fla. In Gwynedd’s 10-4 loss to defending NJAC champion TCNJ, Nick Mulvey had a pair of hits and an RBI. Jason Mulvey (Bensalem) also had an RBI. In the Griffins’ 19-5 loss to nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins, Jason Mulvey was 3-for-4 with a solo home run. Nick Mulvey had an RBI single in the fifth. In Gwynedd’s season-opening 8-0 win over Kean, Jason Mulvey was 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored, and Nick Mulvey was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Dave Tatoian (Pennridge) doubled, drove in three runs and scored a run. He also threw a scoreless ninth in relief and fanned a pair. Shaughn Wright (Pennsbury) delivered a two-run double and finished with three RBIs and a run scored.
Freshman Colin Kennedy (Hatboro-Horsham) had the best performance of his young career on the mound for La Salle last Sunday, but the Explorers fell to Kansas State 5-1. Kennedy scattered just three earned runs and six hits over five innings of work, striking out a career best 10 batters. In La Salle’s 6-4 win at The Citadel, Kennedy made his second start on the mound and was strong over 4.1 innings, finishing with five strikeouts while giving up just one earned run on five hits.
Mason Nadeau (North Penn) scored all three times he reached base (two singles and a walk) in Penn State’s 8-7 loss to Grand Canyon on Friday in Phoenix, Ariz.
Freshman Billy Bethel (Pennsbury) threw five innings of scoreless relief in Chestnut Hill’s 5-4 loss in 12 innings to Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Fla., allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out four. In Friday’s 5-4 win over Florida National in game two of a doubleheader sweep, Bethel earned his first collegiate save. Sophomore catcher Thomas Spratt (Central Bucks West) had an RBI single. Vincent Case (Wiliam Tennent) had an RBI double and scored a pair of runs. Senior Patrick Kelley (Central Bucks West) collected his first win of the season, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three. In the Griffins’ 10-4 win over Stonehill College on Monday, junior Zach Szumigala (Pennsbury) had an RBI double. Bethel held the Skyhawks to one run on three hits in the final two frames.
Sean Maniatis (Pennsbury) recorded a one-pitch save in Widener’s 5-2 win over Husson in Auburndale, Fla., last Sunday. In last Saturday’s 4-0 win over Coe, Maniatis threw a scoreless inning, striking out one. In Widener’s 8-4 loss to Shenandoah, Dylan Morrissette (Souderton) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
West Chester junior Jared Melone (North Penn) was named Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week by the National College Baseball Writers Association and also earned PSAC Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 4. Melone went a combined 12-for-14 with five extra base hits, eight runs scored and 10 RBIs in leading West Chester to a 3-0 week, which included a doubleheader sweep on the road against No. 11 Southern New Hampshire. He hit three doubles and smashed a pair of home runs during the week. Melone was 5-for-6 with seven RBIs and four runs scored in a 21-6 win over University of the Sciences. In Sunday’s doubleheader sweep of Southern New Hampshire, Melone was a combined 7-for-9, including a 3-for-4 effort with a three-run home run in game two as the Golden Rams swept the twinbill.
Justin Horn (Upper Dublin) was 2-for-5 with a run scored in No. 13 West Chester’s 3-1 win over Minnesota Crookston on Sunday in Kissimmee, Fla. Jared Melone (North Penn) gave the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead in the first with a sacrifice fly to center field. In Sunday’s 13-4 win over Grand Valley State, Melone was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. His single to right field in the second drove in a pair of runners that opened up the game. Sophomore Dan McCartin (Central Bucks South) threw a scoreless eighth and gave up one run in the ninth. In West Chester’s 9-3 win over No. 25 Seton Hill on Saturday, Horn had a double and two RBIs, and Melone contributed a double and RBI. In West Chester’s sweep of No. 11 Southern New Hampshire, Horn was 3-for-10 with a pair of RBIs in the doubleheader while Melone was a combined 7-for-9 with a double and home run. In West Chester’s 21-6 win over University of the Sciences, Melone went 5-for-6 with a grand slam, seven RBIs and four runs scored. Jon Fisher (Plymouth Whitemarsh) threw a scoreless first, striking out one, and was credited with the win.
Andrew Mayhew (Pennridge) did not allow a hit and fanned one in a scoreless inning of relief in Millersville’s 12-3 win in game two of a doubleheader sweep last Sunday.
Matt Reinert (Souderton) was 1-for-2 with three runs scored in Wilkes University’s 15-5 loss to Catholic University on Saturday in Myrtle Beach, Fla. In Tuesday’s 10-6 win over Eastern Mennonite University, Reinert was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. In Monday’s 11-0 win over Mount Aloysius, Reinert was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, three stolen bases and three RBIs. In last Sunday’s 18-5 win over Lehman College, Reinert led the Colonels at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Moravian College junior Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the 2018 Landmark
Conference all-conference first team. The PW graduate helped lead the Greyhounds to a 20-7 mark, the first time in school history the program has recorded 20 wins in a season. The team also captured its first ever Landmark Conference championship with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Murray, who was named to the second team a year ago, averaged 17.4 points per game to go along with 62 rebounds, 61 three-pointers, 56 assists and 41 steals. He was selected to the 2018 Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Year. Murray is tied for 16th in school history with 1,118 points in 74 games, and he has made a school record 164 three-pointers in his career.
Murray led the Greyhounds with 16 points to go with two assists and a pair of steals in Moravian’s 86-61 loss to Ramapo College of New Jersey in the opening round of he 2018 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
West Chester junior Matt Penecale (Abington) was named to the All-PSAC East second team. The Abington graduate appeared in 26 games. Penecale ranks seventh in the league with 4.5 assists per game while sitting fourth overall with a 2.04 assist/turnover ratio. As of March 1, he is No. 5 on West Chester’s all-time assists list (389). Penecale’s 143 helpers during the 2015-16 season is the fifth most in WCU history and remains the single season assist record by a West Chester freshman,
Penecale scored 13 points, including the five biggest points of the day down the stretch in West Chester’s 82-77 win over Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday in the opening round game of the NCAA Atlantic Regional. Penecale banked in a long three as the shot clock expired to put the Golden Bears up 80-75 with 19 seconds to play and – following two Wheeling Jesuit free throws – dropped in back-to-back free throws in the waning minutes of the game to seal the historic victory. The win is the first ever NCAA Tournament victory for the Rams. In West Chester’s 87-79 loss to Shippensburg in the PSAC quarterfinals, Penecale scored 10 points.
Lock Haven redshirt sophomore guard Amir Hinton (Abington) has been named to the All-PSAC East first
team. Last year’s PSAC East Freshman of the Year, Hinton is now a two-time first team selection. Hinton averaged 23.4 points per game, which ranked second in the PSAC and 10th in Division II. His 585 points ranked third in the league, and he reached the 1,000-point mark this season, becoming the fastest player in PSAC history to do so. Hinton averaged 6.7 rebounds per game and had three double-doubles on the season. Hinton scored in double figures in every game, including a season-best 47 points versus California (Pa.) on Jan. 8. He also finished with 70 assists (2.8/game) and his 2.4 steals per game led the PSAC and ranked 10th in the NCAA (DII). After two seasons, Hinton has scored 1,227 points.
Ithaca sophomore Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) earned All-Liberty League honorable mention recognition. The CR North graduate appeared in all 26 games, notching 24 starts. He ended the season averaging a team-high 13.4 points per game. Thompson finished the season shooting 41.6 percent on 64-of-154 from beyond the arc while also shooting a team-high 84.8 percent from the free throw line on 69-of-79 attempts. Thompson finished his sophomore campaign with 349 points, 71 rebounds and 37 assists.
Ursinus College senior Zach Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to his second consecutive All-Centennial
Conference Team. Quattro, who transferred from Le Moynce as a junior, leaves Ursinus with two All-CC second team laurels after leading the Bears and ranking fourth in the conference in scoring at 14.6 points per game. His contributions helped Ursinus finish 17-10 overall and win a CC playoff game for the second straight season. Quattro joined sophomore teammate Ryan McTamney as the only players in the CC to shoot better than 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. He ranked ninth in field goal percentage (52.1) and 11th in three-point shooting (40.2 percent). Quattro led Ursinus with 30 blocked shots, good for fifth in the CC, and he was the squad’s second leading rebounder at 5.3 boards per contest. The stretch forward made at least half his attempts from the floor in 18 games this season, including a 27-point, 10-rebound outburst in a win at Washington College in which he went 10-for-16 overall and 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. Quattro, who posted a pair of double-doubles, led the Bears with 17 points in the CC semifinal loss at Swarthmore. Quattro is the first Ursinus player to garner all-conference recognition in back-to-back seasons since Jesse Krasna, who was a second team performer in 2013 and 2014. In two seasons with the Bears, he produced 728 points and 329 rebounds while shooting 49.8 percent from the floor, 41.9 percent on triples and 78.6 percent from the free throw line.
Redshirt junior Anthony Lee (Abington) was named to the PSAC East first team. This is the third time in three seasons that Lee has been named to an All-PSAC team, the first year being named to the first team. The Abington graduate broke the school record for made three-pointers in a game with eight and in a season with 83. He is leading the PSAC in made three-point percentage at 51.6, which also ranks second in Div. II and is also fifth in the conference in field goal percentage (54.1) and free throw percentage (86.8). Lee has totaled 1,470 career points, ranking sixth in program history. He is third in the PSAC in scoring (21.5 ppg) and has scored double figures in 74 of his 82 career starts, including all 28 this season.
Lee scored a game-high 20 points in Kutztown’s 85-71 loss to East Stroudsburg in a PSAC quarterfinal round game. Max Wagner (Pennridge) had five points and three rebounds. In KU’s 93-79 opening round win over Bloomsburg, Lee finished with a team-high 23 points, going 9-for-13 (69.2 percent) from the floor, including 3-for-5 (60 percent) from three-point land. Wagner shot 3-for-3, which included making his only three-point attempt, and finished with seven points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in No. 10 University of Scranton’s 66-54 loss to fifth-ranked Bowdoin in Friday night’s NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 matchup. The loss snapped a 23-game winning streak for Scranton (28-2). The Lady Royals won their third straight Landmark Conference title and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the 21st time in program history while making the program’s 31st overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In last Saturday’s 55-46 second round win over Cabrini, Mason posted game highs of 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists to go along with four blocked shots. In last Friday’s 66-48 win over Keuka in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Mason posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with a team-high five assists.
Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) scored nine points in No. 16 University of the Sciences 61-54 win over No. 6 Bentley in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Saturday to advance to the program’s first ever East Region Final and Sweet 16. Entering the season with a lone NCAA Tournament win from last year,
USciences has now won twice this year and will face No. 11 Stonehill, the host, in the East Region Final on Monday night at 7 p.m. In Friday’s 61-50 win over LIU Post in an opening round game, Vitelli had her third 20-point game of the season, leading all players with 21 points. She connected on 7-of-10 field goals, including 3-of-6 three-pointers as well as all four foul shots. The CB South grad also had four rebounds and two steals. Freshman Irisa Ye (North Penn) finished with nine points on 4-of-6 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench. She also pulled down five rebounds. In last Saturday’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship game – a 64-56 win over Jefferson University, Vitelli scored 14 points, connecting on all four of her free throw attempts and hitting a pair of three-pointers. She also had two steals and two rebounds. Ye finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and pulled down five rebounds. Both Vitelli and Ye were named to the All-Tournament team. In last Saturday’s 61-52 semifinal win over Caldwell, Vitelli came through with a game-turning three-pointer to re-establish a cushion, 49-44, with just 2:38 remaining. Caldwell would get no closer than five the rest of the way. Viteli’s clutch shot made USciences’ history as it was the sophomore’s 70th three-pointer of the season, breaking the single-season record set in 2013-14. Vitelli, who had 15 points, made a game-high three trifectas and also grabbed four rebounds. Ye came off the bench to make 5-of-8 field goals for 11 points and recorded career highs of six rebounds and four assists.
Junior Mackenzie Carroll (Central Bucks West) sank three straight three-pointers and ignited a 14-1 closing run that lifted Colgate to a stunning 60-55 victory over Lafayette. Colgate trailed 54-46 with 3:20 remaining and couldn’t seem to shake a nearly six-minute scoring drought. That’s when Carroll got the hot hand. Right before the momentum swing, Carroll had a three-pointer wiped out when replay ruled she didn’t release it before the shot clock expired. That came with 4:02 showing and appeared to seal Colgate’s fate, but the junior captain was just getting started. Carroll’s 17 points marked a season high and finished just shy of her career best 19 set last year against Towson. The five three-pointers tied her career high from that Towson game.
Senior Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) posted 12 points and five rebounds in Albright’s season-ending 74-65 loss to Gettysburg in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night. The CB South graduate closed her collegiate career with 1,012 points.
Ursinus College sophomore Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) was named to the All-Centennial Conference second team for the second consecutive year, joining Jessica Porada (’16) as the only players in program history to collect all-conference recognition in their first two seasons. Konstanzer continued to solidify herself as one of the league’s premier stars, averaging 16.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game to lead Ursinus to its first playoff appearance in six years. Both rank third in the CC. Konstanzer led the conference in steals (59). She was second in points (431) and field goals made (180), third in total rebounds (254) and offensive rebounds (88), fourth in field goal percentage (47.1) and minutes per game (32.3) and fifth in points per 40 minutes (20.5). Konstanzer’s 431 points and 180 field goals were the fifth highest single season totals in Ursinus history, and her rebound total ranks eighth on the all-time charts. Despite being the focus of every opponent’s game plan, Konstanzer recorded 13 double-doubles, including a 21-point, 15-rebound effort in the CC first round game at Johns Hopkins. She scored in double figures in all but four contests, racking up a season-high 26 points against NCAA Tournament qualifier Albright and pouring in 25 points against two-time CC Player of the Year Emily Gibbons and Gettysburg at the Palestra.
Michael Harris (Abington) had nine rebounds in American University’s 58-49 win over No. 3 Navy in Sunday’s Patriot League title game. In Thursday’s 60-49 win over Army in a Patriot League semifinal, Harris had four points, six rebounds and two assists.
Holy Family University senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Council Rock South) was named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference third team. It has been a bounce-back year for Hofstaedter, who missed the majority of last year due to injury. She is averaging a career-high 10.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game through the regular season. Hofstaedter also dished out a career-high 5.7 assists per game, which ranks tops in the CACC and 12th in all of NCAA Division II. In 27 regular season games, Hofstaedter has totaled 153 assists, which ranks third most in program history in a single season since the start of the Division II era in 2003-04. Over the course of her career at Holy Family she has totaled 359 points, 147 rebounds and 189 assists.
Hofstaedter had 11 points and five assists in Holy Family’s 75-43 loss to Bloomfield in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference quarterfinals.
Jefferson University redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference second team. Williams led the Rams with 12.6 points per game and also averaged 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 steals in her 28 games played. Williams scored a season-high 24 points against Wilmington on Dec. 19 while scoring 20-plus points seven times and 10-plus points 19 times. The PW graduate was tied for 12th in the league with 3.2 assists while she limited turnovers as the team’s point guard for a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. The redshirt sophomore was named the CACC Player of the Week on Dec. 18 and earned a nod to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll on three occasions.
Redshirt junior Erin Maher (North Penn) scored a team-high 16 points with four three-pointers and also had five boards and three assists in Jefferson University’s 71-66 loss to Bentley in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. In last Sunday’s 64-56 loss to University of the Sciences in the CACC Championship, Williams finished with a game-high 23 points as she went 11-of-12 from the free throw line and also grabbed six rebounds. The PW graduate was named to the All-Tournament team. In last Saturday’s 79-67 win over Bloomfield in the CACC semifinals, Williams scored 20 points, including 15 in the first half. She also had six rebounds, four assists and two steals. In the Rams’ 74-55 win over Dominican in the quarterfinals, Williams scored 13 points. Maher had five assists.
Sajanna Bethea (Pennsbury) scored six points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds in Saint Peter’s 60-48 loss to Niagara University in the first round of the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday afternoon.
Chestnut Hill senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) earned All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference second team honors. The North Penn graduate ranks fourth all-time in three-point percentage (.441), third in field goals made (142), field goals attempted (347), free throws made (86) and free throw percentage (.851) and first in three-pointers made (86) and free throw percentage (.851) and first in three-pointers made (97), three-pointers attempted (22), total points (467) and points per game (16.7). Her 16.7 PPG leads the Griffins and her 97 three-pointers ranks her second nationally. She was a six-time member of the CACC Weekly Honor Roll and was named the CACC Player of the Week on Nov. 27.
Tumasz scored a team-high 16 points in addition to three rebounds and a steal in Chestnut Hill’s 109-49 loss to Caldwell.
Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) scored 11 points in Kutztown’s 81-72 loss to West Chester in a PSAC quarterfinal contest. In Kutztown’s 73-60 opening round win over Bloomsburg, Wright his a pair of triples in the first half on her way to 12 points. Taylor Thames (North Penn) finished with seven points.
MEN’S GOLF
Sophomore Quinn Guzman (Souderton) was selected Embry-Riddle’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 26 to March 4, marking his first weekly award of the season and his career. Guzman was the top Eagle finisher at the Stetson Legacy Intercollegiate last week, tying for 12th place with a 221 (78-69-74). The sophomore fired a career low 69 in the second round – which moved him up to a tie for 18th – to highlight his play in the tournament. His 74 on the final day vaulted him to 12th place. Embry-Riddle finished in ninth place in the team standings.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Elizabethtown junior goalie Jack Myers (Wissahickon) was named Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 25. Myers made a career-high 12 saves in Elizabethtown’s 10-5 win over St. Mary’s (Md.), doubling his former career high of six saves. He allowed just three goals over the final 45 minutes of play. Myers protected the Blue Jays 6-3 halftime lead with 10 saves in the second half. He currently leads the Landmark with a 62.5 save percentage and 4.50 goals against average.
Myers made a number of sensational saves and had five in the fourth quarter in Elizabethtown’s 8-7 loss to 20th-ranked Christopher Newport. The Wissahickon graduate finished with 14 saves. In last Saturday’s 9-5 win over Shenandoah, Myers held Shenandoah scoreless in two of the four quarters and had five saves in the win.
Cabrini junior goaltender Riley White (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named Colonial States Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 4. White had a career game in Cabrini’s 13-11 win over No. 12 Dickinson College, posting a career-best 19 saves and five ground balls. Seven of the junior’s saves came in the all-important final quarter, which both teams entered tied at 11.
White posted his second consecutive strong outing in Cabrini’s 11-6 victory over Frostburg on Saturday, recording 15 saves and five ground balls.
Anthony Paone (Central Bucks South) won 12-of-24 face-offs and scooped five ground balls in Widener’s 17-5 loss at No. 12 Dickinson on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 8-7 loss at Rhodes, Paone had two assists.
Michael Sowers (Upper Dublin) had three goals and six assists in Princeton’s 15-14 win over 13th-ranked Rutgers in overtime on Saturday. For Sowers, it was a career high in assists and his third career nine-point game. The Upper Dublin graduate went into Monday’s game against NJIT needing three points to become the 34th Princeton player ever to reach 100 for his career. Though he had three games if he wanted to be the fastest Princeton player ever to reach the century mark, it only took him a little more than 10 minutes of the first quarter to get there. Sowers finished with three goals and five assists for an eight-point night to lead Princeton to a 15-8 win. In last Saturday’s 16-9 loss to Johns Hopkins, Sowers had three goals and three assists and was Princeton’s honoree for the Chris Gardner Player of the Game Award that honors a former JHU lacrosse player who passed away from cancer as a sophomore in college.

Sophomore midfielder Nicholas Vernacchio (Upper Dublin) dished out his first collegiate assist in Saint Joseph’s 11-5 victory over Monmouth on Saturday.
Jacob Snavely (Central Bucks South) had two goals and an assist in Gwynedd Mercy’s 8-4 win over Bryn Athyn.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Kate Ziegler (Pennridge) scored a goal in Elizabethtown’s 14-13 win over Widener on Tuesday in Clearwater, Fla. In last Saturday’s 17-3 non-conference win over Penn State Abington, Ziegler recorded a hat trick and also had one assist, nine ground balls and two caused turnovers. In Elizabethtown’s 18-13 non-conference loss to Marymount (Va.), Ziegler’s second straight goal knotted the score 11-11, but Marymount scored the next six goals. The Pennridge graduate scored the first four goals of her career and also had five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Senior Kara Imes (North Penn) eclipsed the 100-point mark in Delaware Valley’s 18-15 triumph over Alvernia University on Saturday. Imes reach the milestone with a goal on a free position with just 7:23 remaining in the contest that upped DelVal’s advantage to 18-13. The North Penn graduate finished with four goals and an assist for five points while also adding nine draw controls and three ground balls. In Monday’s 14-10 loss at Hood College, Imes had two goals, one assist and eight draw controls. In DelVal’s 16-15 overtime victory over Gwynedd Mercy, Imes, a two-time all-conference honoree, scored the go-ahead goal and then won the ensuing draw. She finished the game with four goals, eight draw controls and six ground balls.
Saint Joseph’s junior attacker Francesca Donato (Neshaminy) was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 26. Donato matched a single-game, program record 11 points on seven goals and four assists to factor into 61 percent of the Hawks’ scoring in their 18-11 win over Temple. After the Owls went on a four-goal run and chipped back to within two scores, 11-9, with 19:11 to play in the second half, Donato scored four of the Hawks’ next five goals to put the game away. Donato closed out her career day with her seventh goal of the game with 3:36 remaining to give the Hawks their final goal of the game. The junior became just the third Hawk in program history and the first since 2000 to record 11 points in one game. The win was the program’s first over Temple since 2009 and the program’s first road win over the Owls in school history.
Donato had two goals and two assists in St. Joseph’s 12-10 win over Vanderbilt on Sunday. In Tuesday’s 16-11 loss to #11/8 Navy, Donato had a pair of goals. In the Hawks’ 18-11 loss to Villanova, Donato scored twice.
Temple freshman Jen Rodzewich (Pennridge) was named to the BIG EAST Conference’s Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Feb. 25. The Pennridge graduate saw action in all five games but had not made her mark on the stat sheet until her breakout game on Feb. 25. Rodzewich scored her first five career goals and added her first two career assists to lead Temple in the 18-15 road win over Lafayette. Rodezewich completed the hat trick just over 10 minutes into the game. For the week, she totaled four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Junior Amber Lambeth (Souderton) scored a career-high four goals and also had five draw controls in Temple’s 15-6 win over East Carolina University on Tuesday. Rodzewich also had an assist. In Temple’s 19-7 loss to No. 7/5 James Madison, Rodzewich tallied one goal. In the Owls’ 18-15 win over Lafayette, Rodzewich scored five goals and had two assists while Lambeth connected for a hat trick.
Makayla Bowman (North Penn) scored two goals in Kutztown’s 15-10 loss to Georgian Court on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 16-6 loss to No. 22 Grand Valley State, Bowman tallied a goal.
Senior midfielder Chessie Rahmer (Souderton), an IWLCA Division II All-American third team selection last year, had two goals in No. 8 East Stroudsburg’s 12-11 loss in overtime to Tiffin last Sunday.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Victoria Braeunle (North Penn) was named to the Colonial States Athletic
Conference Honor Roll for the week ending March 4. The North Penn graduate totaled 12 goals and four assists in two games for the Griffins, scoring six goals in games against both Delaware Valley and Wesley while picking up a combined 19 draw controls, 12 ground balls and adding six caused turnovers. Through four games, she led the team with 24 points on 16 goals and eight assists and also leads the team in ground balls (21), draws (32) and caused turnovers (11). The rookie is also the conference leader in those categories.
Braeunle totaled six points on four goals and two assists in Gwynedd Mercy’s 16-15 loss to Rutgers-Camden on Saturday. Tara Pellegrino (Pennridge) also added a goal. Goalie Nicole Wood (Souderton) made 10 saves as she saw a total of 33 shots. In last Saturday’s 26-17 loss at Wesley, Braeunle led the Griffins with nine points on six goals and three assists. Wood recorded nine saves. In Gwynedd’s 18-17 loss to Delaware Valley, Braeunle led all scorers with a game-high six goals and also had eight ground balls, six draws and two caused turnovers. Wood recorded 16 saves.
Senior Allison Fugate (Pennridge) had a pair of goals and junior Kyra Shank (Souderton) added a single goal in Shippensburg’s 20-4 non-conference win over Holy Family on Friday. Freshman Kiki Brasher (Abington) made three saves in goal in the win.
Mikki Raymond (Abington) netted her first goal of the season on a free position in La Salle’s 12-5 win over Marist last Sunday. In the Explorers’ 18-6 win over Central Michigan, Raymond had one goal.
Junior midfielder Maggie Stella (Central Bucks East) scored a career high four goals – including a hat trick in the first 11 minutes of the game – in No. 14 West Chester’s 16-3 win over No. 24 Tiffin on Tuesday. Junior middle Emily Schulze (North Penn) scored a goal and assisted on another. She also had three ground balls and three caused turnovers. In West Chester’s 24-1 win over Jefferson University, Schulze connected for a hat trick. Sydney Bachmayer (Upper Moreland) tallied twice.
Allison Felicetti (Upper Moreland) scored her fourth goal of the season assisted by her sister Melissa Felicetti (Upper Moreland) in Penn State Abington’s 18-1 loss to Marymount on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 17-3 loss to Elizabethtown, Melissa and Melissa Felicetti each scored a goal.
Senior Samantha Ryder (Pennridge) won four draw controls in Ursinus College’s 24-1 loss to No. 15 West Chester.
SOFTBALL
Sophomore Jackie Heim (William Tennent) had a career day, belting two home runs and driving in four runs in La Salle’s 5-4 win over Omaha on Friday in Hampton, Va., at the Lady Pirate Softball Complex. Lauren Morell (Bensalem) drew a walk with the bases loaded to score what would become the deciding run. In last Sunday’s 7-2 loss to Southern Illinois at Edwardsville in Madeira Beach, Fla., Angelina Refice (Central Bucks West) singled and scored a run.
Alyssa Wilkinson (Quakertown) improved to 4-0 on the season with her fourth complete game and a career-high six strikeouts in Elizabethtown’s 5-4 win over Roger Williams in eight innings on Saturday in Minneola, Fla. In Wednesday’s 8-1 win over Carthage in Clermont, Fla., Wilkinson tossed her third consecutive complete game, allowing only a single run in the sixth inning. In last Sunday’s 8-0 win over Bridgewater State, Wilkinson tossed her second consecutive complete game and held on for a shutout, the first of her career. She spread out seven hits over seven innings and struck out four batters.
Marissa Alpaugh (Pennsbury) was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in Cabrini’s 9-8 loss to York in eight innings in Clermont, Fla. In Cabrini’s 8-7 loss to Hanover, senior Victoria Hall (Bensalem) had three hits.
Jackie Bilotti (North Penn) was 2-for-3 with a run scored in Arcadia’s 2-0 win over Washington (Md.) on Saturday in Kissimmee, Fla.
Senior Hailey Warner (Central Bucks South) tossed a five-inning no-hitter on Thursday as DeSales split its final two games of its spring break trip to Kissimee, Fla. In DeSales’ 13-0 win over Simmons College, Warner allowed just three base runners (two walks and an error) and struck out six in the five-inning no hitter. In DeSales’ 6-5 win over Bridgewater (Va.), Warner allowed a three-run home run in the fifth inning but was otherwise dominant in the circle, earning her second win of the year. She scattered eight hits over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking just two. In day one of DeSales’ spring break trip to Florida, Warner got the win in the circle in a 10-2 win over Heidelberg, allowing just one earned run over five innings while striking out three.
Sara Keeny (William Tennent) had a pair of hits, one RBI and two stolen bases on Saturday in the first two games of Kutztown’s spring break trip to Clermont, Fla. KU dropped both games, falling to Hillsdale College 5-1 and losing 6-4 to Northwood University in game two of the doubleheader.
Freshman Jackie McMenamin (Upper Dublin) emerged the hero with a walk-off RBI double that drove in the game-winning run in the 10th inning of Penn State Abington’s 5-4 victory over Wentworth in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Friday. She finished the game 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Becca Dougherty (Council Rock South) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. In a 7-6 loss later in the day Friday, Caitlin Brasier (Harry S Truman) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. In Tuesday’s 6-2 loss to Randolph College, Brasier recorded two hits, including a double and RBI single. In a pair of losses to Hilbert and Gwynedd Mercy, Dougherty went a combined 5-for-6 at the plate, collecting three doubles and knocking in all three of her team’s runs for the day.
Nikki Alden (William Tennent) was 2-for-4 in Villanova’s 4-3 win over Chattanooga on Sunday in Clearwater, Fla. In Saturday’s 2-1 win over Central Michigan, Alden launched a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game. In the Wildcats’ 12-5 loss to Western Michigan, Alden was 2-for-4 with an RBI. In the Wildcats’ 9-6 loss to Central Arkansas, Alden doubled and scored a run. In Villanova’s 5-3 win over Alabama State, Alden was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.
Jamie Gosselin (Abington) was 2-for-5 with a triple and run scored in Widener’s 13-5 win over John Carroll in six innings on Thursday. In a pair of games on Tuesday at the Sunkissed Games in Kissimmee, Fla., Gosselin recorded three hits.

Sophomore Jennifer Hammons (Springfield Township) combined with teammate Morgan Comfort on a six-hitter in a Ursinus 7-0 shutout of Gordon on Saturday in Clermont, Fla. Hammons came on in the sixth and threw two scoreless innings to end the game. Freshman Alyssa Myers (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-3 with a double. In Thursday’s 12-1 win over Mount Union, freshman Michela Coleman (Wissahickon) recorded her first career hit. In Wednesday’s 9-4 win over Saint Vincent, senior Rachel Hyman (Upper Dublin) was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Hammons threw two scoreless frames of relief.
Freshman Devan Masciulli (Neshaminy) singled and drove in a run in Millersville’s 7-4 loss to No. 22 Queens on the final day of the Shaw Challenge on Saturday in Cary, N.C. In Friday’s 18-8 win over Virginia State, Mascuilli was 3-for-5 with a double, triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. In Friday’s 10-7 win over Bowie State, Masciulli was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. In Tuesday’s 7-2 win over Jefferson in game one of a doubleheader sweep, Mascuilli was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. In Milersville’s 5-4 win over Jefferson in game two, Mascuilli was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Bridget Casey (Pennridge) was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in Bloomsburg’s 12-3 win over Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday. In Bloomsburg’s 8-4 loss to Chowan on Saturday, Emily Mayhew (Pennridge) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Nicolette Ray (Abington) was 2-for-4 with a double. In Bloomsburg’s 14-8 win over Charleston, Mayhew smashed a two-run home run and finished the game 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Ursinus junior Maxwell Coulter (Pennridge) broke his own program record in the 200 breast at the Centennial Conference championships, posting a time of 2:08.68, which was nearly two seconds faster than the time he posted in last year’s championship meet and was good for ninth place. Junior Travis Venables (Pennsbury) was part of the fifth place 400 free relay with a time of 3:09.83.
Penn State freshman Bryce Hoch (North Penn) competed in the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships on Tuesday at Rutgers Aquatic Center, totaling 250.90 points in the preliminaries of the one-meter springboard. He also competed in the 3-meter, posting a score of 195.00 points in the preliminaries.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Ursinus sophomore Margrethe Leis (Springfield Township) was part of the 400 free relay that won the B final with a time of 3:36.22, the third fastest time of the night at the Centennial Conference championships.
La Salle junior Olivia DiStefano (North Penn) finished 11th in the 100 back with a time of 55.17 at the CSAA National Invite hosted by Navy. She also placed 10th in the 50 free with a time of 23.24. Senior Sydney Szopo (Upper Moreland) competed in the NCAA Zone Diving Championships at Rutgers University, competing against some of the best in that nation following her impressive performance at the A10 finals. Szopo finished 40th in the one meter with 203.00 and 42nd in the three meter with a score of 201.40.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Saint Joseph’s freshman Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) placed 25th in the mile with a time of 4:18.04 at the 2018 IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Boston University last weekend. Sophomore David Bryant (Upper Dublin) was part of the 4x400m relay that finished 14th with a time of 3:23.12.
Widener freshman Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) turned in the best performance of the day for the Blue and Gold a the ECAC Championships last Friday, finishing seventh in the long jump with a distance of 6.33 meters.
Kutztown University senior pole vaulter Brandon Raguz (Central Bucks South) ended his stellar indoor track and field career with a 13th place finish Saturday at the NCAA National Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas. Raguz just missed out on being named All-American for the second time in his career. The first jump came at 15-9.00. He missed on his first attempt but connected on his second. At the next height, 16-2.75, Raguz was unable to complete the jump and ended his day. This was Raguz’s second straight appearance on the national stage after earning All-America honors in the pole vault at the outdoor championships last May. Raguz earned All-Region honors for the fifth time in his career in the pole vault, and he is a four-time All-PSAC honoree.
Cameron Christopher (Wissahickon) and Elgin Horton Jr (North Penn) were part of Kutztown’s DMR that earned All-Region accolades. In the field events, Raguz was named All-Region in the pole vault. The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the region’s top 3 relay teams.
Bloomsburg senior Austin Kline (Central Bucks West) placed fifth overall in the 400m dash and then anchored the 4x400m relay team to an eighth place finish at the 2018 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Kline posted an indoor personal best time for the second straight day in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 49.63. He ran a 49.80 during qualifications. James Wilson (Central Bucks South) was part of the 4x400m relay that posted a time of 3:28.03 to earn the final scoring spot in the event.
Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield Township) was part of Kutztown’s 4x400m relay that finished fourth with a time of 3:21.76 at the 2018 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Christopher finished seventh in the 800m with a season-best time of 1:57.14. Tommy Oliver (Bensalem) finished in 11th place in his first career PSAC heptathlon. He scored 3,972 points, highlighted by an eighth place run in the 60m hurdles and a season-best pole vault mark of 9-8.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Elizabethtown senior Kelsey Brady (Council Rock South) competed in the mile event at last Saturday’s Tufts National Qualifying Meet. Brady came into the meet 44th in NCAA Division III in the mile. She ran her season best time of 5:02.34 on Feb. 10 at the NYU DIII Invitational. It was the second fastest time in school history and was less than three-tenths from breaking the record. Last Saturday, Brady lined up against 10 other runs in the mile at Tufts and placed second overall in 5:04.47.
Gettysburg junior Danielle DeMichael (Central Bucks East) was named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team. Each member institution is permitted to nominate one student-athlete from each winter program who exemplifies the best in sportsmanship. DeMichael earned All-CC first team status as a member of the 4×800 relay. The junior helped the relay team capture conference gold for the first time in program history with a time of 9:42.17, which was less than two seconds shy of the school record. DeMichael also competed in the 800 meters and the distance medley relay at the Centennial meet, taking 10th and sixth respectively.
Ursinus junior Riley Engel (Council Rock North) was part of the 4x800m relay that broke a school record that stood since 2009 at the Centennial Indoor Championships. The quartet crossed the finish line in 9:57.49, just under a second better than the previous standard. Freshman Michela Coleman (Wissahickon) notched a PR of 27.26 to win her heat and placed sixth in the 200 meter dash. Coleman and Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) were part of the 4×400 relay that finished fourth with a time of 4:10.04.
Emily Magnant (Hatboro-Horsham) and Alison King (North Penn) were part of West Chester’s 4×400 relay that finished sixth with a time of 3:58.98 at the 2018 PSAC Championships.
WRESTLING
Kutztown University junior Jeff Reimel (North Penn) completed the best season of his career on Saturday. After earning All-America honors Friday, Reimel closed out Saturday by winning fifth place at 184 pounds to cap the 2018 NCAA National Championships at the US Cellular Center in Grand Rapids, Iowa. The podium finish improved KU to 17th place with 13.5 points. Reimel had a tough schedule, wrestling three matches that featured wrestlers ranked in the top four in the country. He closed out the day with his best performance, controlling an 11-3 major decision of No. 4 Bradley Metz of Findlay to win fifth. Reimel competed in his first career national semifinal to open the day Saturday, but he was tested against the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country, JaVaughn Perkins of Colorado State Pueblo. Reimel, ranked ninth at 184, rode an inspired stretch of postseason success and confidence into his semi, but his athleticism and talent were matched by Perkins in a physical match. Perkins scored early and wore Reimel down, winning a 12-1 major decision. Reimel moved into the consolation bracket against No. 2 Jordan Murphy of Ashand. Murphy scored multiple takedowns, Reimel kept himself in the match with escapes but was unable to score offensively in a 10-6 decision, moving him into the fifth place match. Reimel closed his season with a 17-0 10 record. On Friday, Reimel earned a 14-4 major decision over Aero Amo (Augustana) and earned a tech fall over Tyler Hughes (Lake Erie), 15-0.
