The Redskins are through biding their time.
While their conference rivals have been living in the spotlight the last several week, the Redskins have quietly and without fanfare taken care of business. They’ve done what they needed to do to put themselves in a position where they can determine their own fate with two regular season games remaining.
Neshaminy is one of four National Conference teams with one loss, joining Pennsbury, Council Rock South and Harry S Truman at the top of the standings. Next week – in what will be championship week number one for the ‘Skins – they will host Rock South. A week later Pennsbury will visit Neshaminy. It promises to be an exciting finish.
On Saturday, Logan Williamson set the tone for the no-doubt-about-it win when he returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown. A 42-yard touchdown run by Oleh Manzyk sent the Redskins into the second quarter with a 14-0 lead, and they doubled that with two more scores in the frame.
Chris James took it in from two yards out, and then it was Connor Moss falling on a fumble in the end zone after a Manzyk strip, sending the Redskins into halftime with a 28-0 lead. Jake Hughes was successful on all four PAT attempts in the half.
In the third quarter, quarterback Brody McAndrew connected with Zach Cannimore on a nine-yard touchdown pass to put the Redskins on top 35-0.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Owls got on the scoreboard on Jarred O’Connell’s 16-yard touchdown run. Neshaminy’s Gavin O’Connor scored from 10 yards out to put the finishing touches on the big win.
James – one of seven Neshaminy ball carriers – led a balanced attack with 97 yards on the ground.
Neshaminy (5-3, 4-1 SOL) will host Council Rock South in a conference showdown on Friday, and Bensalem (0-8, 0-4) will host Council Rock North on Saturday at 5 p.m.
