Cairn University junior Joel Varguhese (Bensalem) led the way for the Highlanders at the DeSales Invitational last week, finishing the 8K race in 27:34.3 to place 39th overall. Trevor Hickey (Quakertown) finished in 99th (30:21.3).
Gettysburg sophomore Dylan McKeever (Central Bucks East) set a new personal record while placing 37th among 276 runners at the 30th Annual Gettysburg College Invitational on Saturday. McKeever cruised the muddy 8,000-meter course in 27:20.
Penn State Abington freshman Ben Hoyer (Wissahickon) was the first Nittany Lion to finish with a time of 27:31 (37th overall) at the DeSales University Invitational on Saturday.
Holy Family University freshman Sean Rahill (William Tennent) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the week for the week ending Oct. 7. It marks the fourth time this season that Rahill was tabbed the conference’s top weekly rookie. At the annual Blue & Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware, Rahill finished third overall to lead the Tigers. He crossed the finish line in a time of 27:39.6 over the 8K course. It solidified his fourth top-five performance of the season.
Rahill was the third runner overall to cross the finish line (17:39.6) in the Blue & Gold Invitational hosted by the University Delaware last Saturday. Junior Connor Irwin (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 51st overall with a time of 35:00.8. Sophomore MJ Powlowicz (Harry S Truman) finished 56th overall in 36:10.6.
Saint Joseph freshman Aidan Sauer (Pennsbury) posted a time of 27:39.5 at the 2018 Lafayette Leopard Invitational on Saturday. On Friday, sophomore Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) posted a PR (25:13.7) and finished 59th at the 2018 Princeton Invitational held at Princeton University’s West Windsor Fields. It marked the first West Windsor Fields race of Scarpill’s young career.
Ursinus College junior Logan Mazullo (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 28:02.8 at the Inter-Regional Border Battle at Rowan on Saturday.
Jefferson University freshman Josh Skinner (Upper Dublin) finished 45th out of 119 runners with a time of 30:06.7 at the 2018 Jack Saint Clair Memorial Championship on Saturday.
Bucknell sophomore Connor McMenamin (Souderton) finished in the top half of the field at the Penn State National Open on Friday, posting a time of 26:25 to finish 97th out of 207 runners.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Chrisi Laskowski (William Tennent) posted a 39:27.5 for a PR in the 8K at the DeSales University Invitational last Saturday.
Chestnut Hill junior Aaron Morris (Springfield Township) had his best finish of the season, posting a time of 28:31.4 (97th) at the Gettysburg College Invitational on Saturday. In last weekend’s Blue and Gold Invitational, Morris had a top-20 finish with a time of 29:35.2.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Cairn University freshman Julia Markey (Souderton) posted a time of 30:55.3 in the 6K at the DeSales Invitational last week.
Gettysbury senior Danielle DeMichael (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 26:26 to finish 135th out of 318 runners at the 30th Annual Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday.
Holy Family freshman Victoria Reid (Bensalem) finished 46th overall with a time of 28:21.4 at the Blue & Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware last Saturday.
Ursinus College senior Riley Engel (Council Rock North) was the standard bearer for the Bears at the Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan on Saturday finishing in 18th place overall with a time of 24:27.3 on the 6K course. Freshman Amanda Choi (Plymouth Whitemarsh) posted a time of 27:44.6.
Shippensburg junior Maria Antoni (Upper Moreland) continued her breakthrough season with a 20th place finish and a time of 23:49 – marking her fifth scoring performance in five races – at the 30th Annual Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. Just two places and three seconds behind Antoni was senior Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East), who was the team’s No. 4 runner with a time of 23:52. Senior Lindsey Gerlach (Central Bucks West) rounded out the Raider scorers, finishing 27th overall with a time of 24:01. Gerlach has been a scorer for SU in all five of her races this season.
FIELD HOCKEY
West Chester senior Marissa Elizardo (North Penn) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Athlete of the Month for the month of September. Elizardo was 5-1 in goal with a 1.14 goals-against average and a .833 save percentage. Elizardo also recorded a pair of shutouts in the Golden Rams’ victories over IUP and Slippery Rock.
Elizardo was named PSAC Athlete of the Week as well as the Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. Elizardo was 2-0 with a pair of shutout victories over PSAC rivals Millersville (3-0) and Slippery Rock (2-0) to open up the Rams’ PSAC schedule. The North Penn graduate began her week against No. 7 Millersville, which took eight shots on goal. Elizardo turned away all eight shots to keep the Marauders off the scoreboard. She followed that with an impressive performance against Slippery Rock, making only one save on the only shot that found its way on goal.
Elizardo recorded four saves in No. 1 West Chester’s 3-2 win over Mercyhurst on Sunday. In Tuesday’s 4-2 win over No. 5 Shippensburg, Elizardo made seven saves. In West Chester’s 3-0 win over No. 7 Millersville, Elizardo made eight saves, stopping three consecutive attempts with a pair of kick saves and a blocker save late in the second half to preserve the shutout.
Junior Christen Pennington (Neshaminy) scored the game-winner on a rebound with 49 seconds remaining in overtime, propelling Villanova to a 2-1 victory over Longwood University on Sunday. The Neshaminy graduate has two game-winning goals in overtime for the Wildcats.
Freshman Bridget Thompson (Council Rock North) contributed a goal in Bates College’s 5-0 win over Southern Maine on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 11-0 win over University of Maine-Farmington, Thompson had a goal and an assist. In Bates’ 3-2 overtime win over No. 5 Babson, Thompson scored a goal that put the Bobcats ahead 2-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brynne Schoppe (North Penn) earned her fourth win of the season in Albright’s 2-1 victory over DeSales on Wednesday, turning away five shots including a penalty stroke in the final minutes of the game. In Albright’s 2-0 win over Scranton, Schoppe tallied her second straight shutout after making three saves.
Jess Dixon (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an assist in Delaware Valley University’s 4-1 loss to Wilkes on Saturday.
Amanda Blum (Neshaminy) scored a goal in Quinnipiac’s 6-2 loss to Providence on Friday.
Junior Becky Gerhart (Quakertown) scored on a corner in Temple’s 2-1 double overtime loss at Drexel on Sunday. The goal was Gerhart’s first of the season and second of her career.
Sophomore Erin Chioffe (Central Bucks East) scored in the ninth minute in DeSales University’s 6-4 win over Eastern University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Albright, Chioffe scored DeSales’ lone goal, putting home a rebound of a saved shot.
Shelby Landes (Souderton) recorded three saves in No. 2 Messiah’s 2-1 double overtime win over Alvernia on Friday night. In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over No. 11 Christopher Newport, Landes had a pair of clutch saves in the final six minutes.
Ursinus College field hockey goalie Jules Singer (Council Rock North) was selected as the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week and received honorable mention for the NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week award for the week ending Oct. 1. The senior netminder allowed only one goal and stopping 12 of the 13 shots she faced. Singer came up with 10 saves in a 1-0 loss at fourth-ranked TCNJ, helping Ursinus hold off the high-powered Lions until the last play of overtime. She also was the beneficiary of outstanding back line play that included junior Anna Hall (Central Bucks West). Singer came back to post two saves in about 54 minutes of action in the Bears’ 4-0 shutout of Dickinson. A first-time weekly award winner. At the time of the award, Singer ranked fourth in the conference in save percentage (.818) and goals-against average (0.91), both career highs. She posted three shutouts to run her career total to 11.
Junior Erin Saybolt (Souderton) scored off a penalty corner for her team-leading 10th goal in Ursinus College’s 5-2 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday. Senior goalie Jules Singer (Council Rock North) posted the win with eight saves. In Wednesday night’s 4-1 win over Muhlenberg, Saybolt contributed a hat trick. In the Bears’ 2-1 overtime victory over Haverford, Singer came up with four key saves.
Caitlyn Thornton (Council Rock South) contributed a goal and Maggie Walsh (Central Bucks South) had an assist in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-1 win over DeSales last Saturday.
Sam Scoma (Wissahickon) scored four goals with three of her goals coming in the first 13 minutes of the match in Widener’s 7-0 win over Hood on Saturday.
Senior Jackie Shragher (Council Rock South) was credited with a defensive save in No. 6 Bloomsburg’s 4-0 win over Queens (NC) last Sunday.
FOOTBALL
Alvernia University freshman Malcolm Carey (Bensalem) was named the Alvernia Athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 7. Carey accounted for all five of Alvernia’s touchdowns in a 45-33 loss to Misericordia. Four of Carey’s touchdowns came on runs of 10 yards or less, but the freshman had one big touchdown on a 63-yard breakaway run on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. Carey finished the day with 230 rushing yards.
Carey had 12 carries for 61 yards in Alvernia’s 51-7 loss to King’s College on Saturday. Freshman Mike Schoenleber (Wissahickon) had five tackles, one for a loss.
Sophomore quarterback Reece Udinski (North Penn), who threw for over 400 yards in each of the previous two contests, completed 22-of-34 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 73-22 loss to Samford.
Sophomore safety Armon Jefferson (Abington) had a pair of interceptions and five tackles in Albright’s 47-43 loss to Wilkes on Saturday.
Kutztown junior Luke Snyder (Pennsbury) was named PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct 1. The junior linebacker had a career night in KU’s 44-10 win over Bloomsburg, finishing with 10 total tackles, twice as many as the next Golden Bears’ defender. He also had 2.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. The Golden Bears’ defense is fourth in the conference with 13 sacks.
Kutztown redshirt senior running back Craig Reynolds (Abington) was named the PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1. Reynolds was tabbed PSAC Offensive Athlete of the Week twice both last season and the season before that. He finished with 202 all-purpose yards in Kutztown’s 44-10 win over Bloomsburg, including 112 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns on the ground. At the time of the award, he ranked first in the PSAC with 11 touchdowns and fourth in rushing at 96.0 yards per game. Through four games, the KU offense ranked first in yards per game at 503.0, fourth in scoring at 39.5 points per game and first in rushing at 194.0 yards per game.
Reynolds rushed for 46 yards and one touchdown in 19th-ranked Kutztown’s 41-0 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. He ranks second all-time in KU history with 31 career touchdowns and sixth with 2,393 rushing yards. Reynolds also ended his day with 104 all-purpose yards and ranks third all-time at KU with 4,743 in his career. Josh Lee (Abington) had two catches, including a 19-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. In last Saturday’s 35-33 win over East Stroudsburg, Reynolds finished with 20 carries for a season-high 136 yards, eclipsing the century mark for the third time in 2018. Alec Rosenfeld (Bensalem) was a perfect 5-for-5 on his extra point attempts, moving into a tie for 12th all-time in PSAC history. Lee hauled in a 23-yard touchdown pass.
Junior quarterback Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) completed 18-of-28 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown in Ursinus College’s 34-14 loss to No. 24 Muhlenberg on Saturday. Garlick is tie for third with his 400th career completion. Junior Stacey Gardner (Upper Dublin) rushed for 39 yards on six carries before exiting with an injury in the first half.
Redshirt senior Josh Lister (Souderton) had a pair of sacks and now has five sacks through seven games this season in Shippensburg’s 37-0 win at Millersville on Saturday. Redshirt junior Luke Durkin (Central Bucks West) scored a rushing touchdown. In last Saturday’s 41-39 loss to LIU Post, redshirt junior linebacker Colin Williams (Wissahickon) came away with his first career interception.
Wide receiver Branden Mack (Cheltenham) caught a seven-yard touchdown pass in Temple’s 49-6 victory over East Carolina last Saturday. He finished with five receptions for 43 yards.
Mitchell Vierling (William Tennent) completed 16-of-29 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in Widener’s 41-25 win over King’s last Saturday.
Junior quarterback Michael Marino (Wissahickon) completed 13-of-27 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns in Chestnut Hill’s 49-41 loss to Cornell in another high-scoring Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) game on Saturday.

Penn State Abington sophomore Shane Nocito (Harry S Truman) placed sixth overall with a score of 79 at the Scarlet Raptor Fall Invitational.
Temple sophomore Dawson Anders (Souderton), playing as an individual, was eight over to tie for 36th at the Bucknell Invitational on Tuesday.
Sophomore David Kim (Upper Dublin) finished tied for second on the La Salle scorecard, shooting a 75 in round two, improving his round one score by a stroke to finish with a 151 (+11) at the Bucknell Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Penn State senior Jackie Rogowicz (Pennsbury) finished in a tie for seventh with a 2-under score of 216 after posting her second consecutive round under par, shooting 2-under 70 on the final day of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in Lexington, KY, last weekend.
West Chester senior Juliarose Genuardi (North Penn) finished runner-up while the Rams won the team title at the Kutztown Fall Invitational held at Moselem Springs Golf Club. It was Genuardi’s third straight runner-up performance on the course. Genuardi shot an 81 on the final day and finished the 36-hole event with a 163. She birdied two holes on the front nine. In Tuesday’s Alvernia Fall Invite, Genuardi tied for eighth with an 84.
MEN’S SOCCER
Freshman Billy Hanratty (William Tennent) became the first Albright player in seven years to record a hat trick in the Lions’ 3-0 win over Bryn Athyn on Thursday night. Hanratty’s hat trick ties the school record for goals in a single game, and he is the first player to record a trio of goals since Oct. 17, 2011. The William Tennnent graduate struck in the fifth minute and then netted his second goal at the 13:38 mark on a breakaway. He finished the hat trick in the 48th minute. Hanratty recorded six shots to pace the Lions. In Tuesday, 2-1 loss to Arcadia, Hanratty scored his team’s only goal. In Albright’s 2-1 victory over Hood, Hanratty scored the Lions’ first goal in the 17th minute.
Senior Cole Kropnick (Wissahickon) scored his league-leading 11th goal of the season by heading home a corner from junior Colin Marks (Pennsbury) in Shippensburg’s 4-0 win over Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Saturday. Kropnick has scored in nine of his 10 matches this season. Kropnick and senior Devlin Mettee (Neshaminy) each had an assist. In Shippensburg’s 2-1 win over Bloomsburg, Kropnick scored with an assist from Mettee.
Sophomore Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin) had a pair of assists to bring his total to seven, tied for first in the NEAC, in Penn State Abington’s 4-3 win over Keuka College on Saturday. Sophomore Sebastian Krysztofowicz (Central Bucks East) and senior Sean Seidenburg (Abington) each scored a goal. In Wednesday’s 4-1 loss at Swarthmore, Krysztofowicz scored the Nittany Lions’ only goal. In last Saturday’s 4-1 win over Wells, Palomeque had a goal and an assist and Krysztofowicz also had a goal.
Evan Vare (Central Bucks East) scored in the 78th minute to knot the score in Villanova’s 2-1 overtime loss to Georgetown on Saturday.
Justin Molyneaux (Souderton) recorded an assist on a corner kick on his team’s only goal in Ursinus College’s 1-1 tie with Keystone on Tuesday. In the Bears’ 3-2 loss to Stockton, Molyneaux had a pair of goals. The Souderton graduate came into the game with two career goals but left with double that. The first was a rocket of a right-footed volley off a loose ball from about 25 yards, a top-shelf strike that opened the scoring in the 28th minute.
Gersi Hoxha (Upper Dublin) scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 overtime loss to Immaculata on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to Wesley, Kevin Bowers (Council Rock South) scored the Griffins’ only goal. In the Griffins’ 1-1 tie with Marywood, Bowers scored his third goal of the year in the final five minutes of regulation.
Freshman Tarin Morris (Central Bucks West) had an assist on the second goal in La Salle’s 2-2 draw at Saint Joseph’s.
Kevin McKenna (North Penn) connected on a header in Widener’s 2-1 loss to No. 14 Lycoming on Saturday. In Widener’s 3-2 overtime victory over Arcadia, McKenna struck a ball to the lower left and curled the ball just inside the far post for his second tally of the season, knotting the score.
Daniel Grindrod (Neshaminy) delivered a cross that set up the game-winner in West Chester’s 1-0 win over Gannon on Friday. In last Saturday’s 4-0 win over California (Pa.), Grindrod and Nick Jachwak (Souderton) each scored a goal. In West Chester’s 2-1 road victory over Millersville, Brett Miller (Council Rock North) contributed an assist.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Saint Joseph University senior goalkeeper Grace Bendon (Central Bucks West) was named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. At George Mason, Bendon posted a game-high seven saves in helping the Hawks to a 4-1 win. She followed with a clean sheet against VCU, making three saves for her fourth shutout. Playing every minute in goal for SJU this year, Bendon has gone 9-4-2 with a career-best 0.91 goals-against average and a .778 save percentage. A four-year starter, Bendon holds the Hawks’ record for career wins (28) and ranks third all-time in goal-against average (1.30) and fourth in career shutouts (12).
Freshman Aleksa Peev (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist and Bendon made three saves to pick up her 10th win in St. Joseph’s 3-1 win over George Washington on Thursday. In last Sunday’s 2-0 win over VCU, Michaela Finneyfrock (Council Rock North) contributed a goal and Bendon recorded three saves. In the Hawks’ 4-1 win over George Mason, Peev connected on her fourth goal of the season, and Finneyfrock had an assist. Bendon recorded seven saves.
West Chester senior McKenna Mullin (Neshaminy) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Defensive Player of the Month for the month of September. Mullin posted a record of 7-1-1 with a goals-against average of just 0.22. Mullin allowed just one goal in the month, surrendering a goal in the Golden Rams’ 1-0 loss to Bloomsburg.
McKenna also was named PSAC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1. Mullin had another stellar week in goal, recording two shutouts including one over No. 11 Kutztown. Mullin has allowed just two goals over the course of 804 minutes in goal for a goals-against average of just 0.22. Mullin recorded 12 saves in the week, making five saves against nationally-ranked Kutztown before making another seven saves against Edinboro. Mullin’s consistency between the pipes has played a major role in helping West Chester to a 7-1-1 start. Mullin has been part of two separate shutout streaks, including one that ended after 542 minutes and another streak that was 208 minutes after West Chester’s two shutout victories. Mullin was second in the conference in both save percentage and shutouts while she is atop the conference in save percentage (.952).
Lenzi Wolfe (Quakertown) had an assist in West Chester’s 2-0 win over Lock Haven on Sunday. In Friday’s 3-2 loss to Gannon, Wolfe notched the first tally of the game. Freshman Dani Cady (Pennsbury) had an assist. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over California (Pa.), Cady contributed an assist.
Junior Katelyn Gillinger (Springfield Township) delivered a strike past the keeper from the middle of the box in Cabrini’s 3-1 win over Neumann University on Saturday.
Shaelyn McCarty (Central Bucks West) contributed an assist in Drexel’s 3-2 double overtime loss to Hofstra on Thursday.
Washington and Lee senior Megan Engeland (Pennsbury) was selected as the ODAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week and also earned Generalssports.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. Engeland led the women’s soccer team to a 2-0 record in ODAC play, totaling four goals on nine shots in two wins. Her week was highlighted by her second career hat trick in the Generals’ 4-2 road win at Shenandoah. It was her first multi-goal game of the season. Engeland now sits in seventh place on the all-time goals list with 35 scores in her soccer career.

Freshman Mary Kate Smith (Springfield Township) had seven saves in her first collegiate appearance as a goalkeeper in Penn State Abington’s 3-3 tie with Cairn University on Saturday.
Holy Family senior Bree Rock (Bensalem) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7. It marked the second time this season that Rock was named the conference’s top weekly player. Rock accounted for seven of Holy Family’s 12 goals during a 2-0 week. Against Chestnut Hill, Rock recorded a career-high four goals and in the process surpassed 100 points in her career. That night she became the sixth player in program history to reach the 100-point milestone. Rock capped the week with her second hat trick in as many games in Holy Family’s 6-1 win over Concordia. Rock was tied for the conference lead in goals with 12 and was second in total points with 29.
Rock recorded her third hat trick of the season after scoring three goals in the final 17 minutes of Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Felician University on Saturday. Freshman goalkeeper Alayna McSeed (Bensalem) recorded her third shutout of the season after making two saves. In Wednesday’s 2-1 overtime win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College, Rock assisted on the Tigers’ first goal. In Holy Family’s 6-1 win over Concordia, Rock recorded her second hat trick in as many games. Senior Alyssa Christiansen (William Tennent) was credited with an assist. McSeed – 3-0-1 in four starts with a 0.62 goals against average – made a season-high seven saves in goal. In Holy Family’s 6-1 win over Chestnut Hill, Rock connected for a hat trick, and Christiansen added a goal.
Freshman Kelsey Butler (Pennsbury) contributed an assist in Jefferson University’s 3-3 draw with Caldwell last Saturday.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Kailey Hopkins (William Tennent) was named the Atlantic East Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1. Hopkins registered three saves in a 1-0 win over Bryn Mawr for her third shutout of the season. She tied a career high with 13 stops in a 1-1 tie at Alvernia, despite the Griffins being outshot 27-3. For the week, she totaled 0.45 goals-against average along with a .941 save percentage on 33 shots.
Hopkins recorded five saves in Gwynedd Mercy’s 1-0 win over Immaculata on Saturday. The clean sheet was the fourth of the season for the senior and her 21st in her career. In last Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Marymount, Hopkins totaled six saves.

Kristina Miller (North Penn) scored a goal in No. 8 Kutztown’s 2-0 win at IUP on Sunday. Alyssa Ryan (Wissahickon) tallied two shots on frame. In Friday’s 7-0 win over Mansfield, Savanna Harrison (Pennridge) found the back of the net for the first time in her career. In last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Clarion, Miller connected for a goal.

Freshman Gianna Vassalluzzo (Council Rock North) earned an 8-4 win at number six singles in Chestnut Hill’s 4-3 loss to Jefferson University on Friday. In Wednesday’s 5-2 loss to the University of the Sciences, Vassalluzzo earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at number six singles.
Freshman Alyssa Skulsky (Council Rock South) was part of the first doubles team that earned a 7-5 win over the PSAC doubles champions in West Chester’s 5-2 loss to Mercyhurst.
Victoria Hanus (Pennridge) earned a 6-4, 0-6, 10-3 win in her flight four singles match in Millersville’s 5-2 loss to California (Pa.) last Saturday. It was her first singles victory of the season.
Siena Cerra (Neshaminy) earned a win at number six singles (6-2, 6-4) and was part of the third doubles team that earned a 6-3 win in Bloomsburg’s 5-2 victory at Seton Hill.
Aubrianna Stetina (Quakertown) was part of the first doubles team that earned a 6-2 win in East Stroudsburg’s 6-1 win over Caldwell on Friday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Haley Sheehan (Quakertown) contributed eight kills and one ace in Cairn University’s 3-0 loss to Wilson on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-1 win over Bryn Athyn College, Sheehan had 10 kills and 15 digs. In last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Rosemont, Sheehan had 13 kills and one ace. In Cairn’s 3-2 loss to Penn State Abington, Sheehan had 10 kills, one ace and one block.
Cabrini University sophomore Steph Judkins (Pennridge) was named the Atlantic East Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7. It is the third time the Pennridge graduate received the honor this year. Judkins posted a .400 hitting percentage and paired 36 kills and 29 digs during the Cavaliers’ 2-1 week. The sophomore recorded 11 kills and eight digs in Cabrini’s 3-0 win at Immaculata before tallying her 10th double-double of the season with 19 kills and 11 digs in a victory over Wesley. Judkins closed the week with six kills and 10 digs in a loss to Susquehanna.
Cabrini freshman Hannah Dalton (Abington) was named to the Atlantic East Conference Honor Roll. Dalton’s defensive effort played a key role in Cabrini’s success. The rookie recorded 11 total blocks in three matches, including six against Susquehanna to go along with 11 kills and three service aces.
Judkins notched a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs to go along with two blocks in Cabrini’s 3-0 loss to Stevenson. In the nightcap of the tri-match, Cabrini defeated Kean University 3-1. Judkins paired 19 kills and 13 digs for her 12th double-double. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy, Judkins led the attack with 14 kills. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Neumann, Judkins had 15 kills and two service aces, and Dalton added six kills and three blocks. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Wesley, Judkins paired 19 kills with 11 digs, and Dalton had three block assists and two service aces. In a 3-0 loss to Susquehanna later in the day, Dalton had six blocks. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Immaculata, Judkins had 11 kills and eight digs.
Senior Jaime Bonner (William Tennent) had 12 kills in Holy Family’s 3-2 win over Georgian Court at Saturday’s tri-match. In Holy Family’s 3-1 win over Molloy later in the date, senior Candyce Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) had eight digs and is now two digs shy of 1,000 for her career. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over the University of the Sciences, Riley led the team with a season-high 15 digs. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bloomfield, Bonner had seven kills. In Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Chestnut Hill, Bonner had six kills and two block assists. In the Tigers’ 3-2 win at Wilmington, Bonner had 10 kills and Riley finished with 14 digs.
Junior Miranda Foster (Neshaminy) had 10 kills on 20 error-free swings for a .500 hitting percentage in Ursinus College’s 3-0 win over Immaculata on Saturday. In the Bears’ 3-0 loss to Moravian later in the day, Foster had six kills. In Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Muhlenberg, Foster finished with a team-high seven kills (to just one error). In last Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Franklin & Marshall, Foster had five kills. In the Bears’ 3-2 loss to Marywood, Foster registered six kills.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Cait Saalfrank (Pennridge) was honored for the fourth straight week, garnering a spot on the Atlantic East Volleyball Honor Roll for the week ending Oct. 1. Saalfrank totaled 47 digs in two victories while adding four aces and three assists. At Delaware Valley, the libero racked up 29 digs, a tie for second most this season. In a win over Rosemont, she registered 18 digs in a 3-0 victory. She ranked fifth in Division III in digs per set (6.51 dps) and tied for fifth in total digs (384).
Saalfrank was three digs shy of tying her own school record, totaling 41 digs in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 3-1 loss to Rutgers-Camden in the first match of a tri-match Saturday. It was the second most in a match in program history. With those 41 digs, Saalfrank also set a single-season mark as the sophomore now has 479 on the year. She also contributed three aces and five assists. Madelyn Mosser (Pennridge) finished with a team-high 11 digs. Cassie McCarney (William Tennent) added seven kills, three aces and a block. Setter Bridget McTamney (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 29 assists and 22 digs. In the Griffins’ 3-0 loss to St. Joseph’s of Long Island, McCarney had six kills, Mosser had five kills and 15 digs. In Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Cabrini, McTamney recorded her ninth double-double, totaling 10 assists and 10 digs. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-0 win over Cheyney, McCarney and Mosser both had six kills and McTamney had three aces. In the Griffins’ 3-0 loss to Wesley, Mosser had nine kills and McTamney doled out 25 assists and also had six digs, four aces and a solo block.
Holly Owen (Hatboro-Horsham) totaled a team-high 19 kills in Kutztown University’s 3-1 loss to Millersville on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-1 win over West Chester, Owen had a team-high 18 kills. In KU’s 3-0 loss to Bloomsburg, Owen led the attack with 11 kills. In Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to East Stroudsburg, Owen posted eight kills.
Freshman Bryn Stek (Upper Dublin) tied for the team lead with 10 assists in Bloomsburg’s 3-0 loss at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to Shippensburg, Stek had five assists and was one of just four players to manage a plus hitting percentage against the Raider defense. In last Saturday’s 3-1 loss to East Stroudsburg, Stek had 18 assists. In the Huskies’ first ever PSAC victory – a 3-0 win over Kutztown, Stek had 18 assists. In Bloomsburg’s 3-1 loss to Lock Haven, Stek had a career-high 25 assists.
