MEN’S BASKETBALL
Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) had 19 points and was 9-for-10 at the line in Ithaca College’s 101-87 victory over Clarkson University on Saturday. In Friday’s 67-63 Liberty League victory at St. Lawrence University, Thompson finished with 15 points and six boards. In Tuesday’s 91-61 victory over RIT, Thompson contributed 22 points on 6-of-14 shots. He also went 4-for-8 from distance and was 6-for-6 at the line. Fifteen of his points came in the first half. In Ithaca’s 92-50 win over defending Liberty League champion Skidmore, Thompson finished the night with a team-high 20 points to go along with four rebounds. In Ithaca’s 101-87 win over Montclair Sate, Thompson scored a career-high 36 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the floor. He was 5-of-11 from 3-point range. The CR North grad played 28 minutes in the contest and scored 24 points in the first half as he went 9-for-12 shooting. Thompson’s previous career best of 29 points occurred on Nov. 17, 2017, against SUNY Canton during his sophomore season.
Senior Tracy Simsick (Souderton) scored 14 points in DeSales University’s 79-74 win over Wilkes University on Saturday. It is the seventh straight win for DeSales. In last Saturday’s 76-59 win over King’s College, junior Mike Bealer (Souderton) had nine points. In DeSales University’s 78-64 win over FDU-Florham, Simsick led all scorers with 25 points, including the 1,000th of his career. The Souderton grad became the 28th player in team history to score 1,000 career points, reaching the milestone with 32 seconds left in the game. Simsick, playing his first game since Dec. 12 because of a leg injury, scored 25 points off the bench on 11-of-15 shooting and added four assists.
Junior Billy Warren (Pennsbury) tallied five blocks to go along with seven points in Cabrini ‘s 77-67 loss to Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 90-86 loss to Marymount, Warren had eight points and five rebounds. In Cabrini’s 65-49 loss to Neumann, Warren narrowly missed his first career double-double, pairing eight points with a career-best 14 rebounds.
Delaware Valley University junior forward Damian Washington (Upper Moreland) was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom
Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 6. Washington averaged 24 points and nine rebounds with two assists and four steals while shooting over 50 percent from 3-point land (8-for-15) and 50 percent from the field (15-for-30). In the Aggies home win against Eastern, Washington netted a game-high 28 points, including a game-winning layup at the buzzer to secure the 59-57 victory. He also had nine boards, a steal and connected on 5-of-11 3-pointers. At Stevens, the junior led the team with 22 points and added nine rebounds and three steals despite the 85-73 setback. It is the second weekly conference award for Washington who took home Defensive Player of the Week honors after the first week of the season.
Josh Aruda (Pennsbury) contributed nine points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals in McDaniel’s 63-50 loss to Franklin & Marshall.
Will Derr (Upper Dublin) had nine rebounds and two blocks in Arcadia University’s 71-57 victory over Messiah last Saturday.
Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy), a four-year captain and cornerstone of the 2016 NCAA national championship team, will have his No. 15 jersey retired when Marquette comes to Finneran Pavilion on Feb. 12. Now a member of the Chicago Bulls, Arcidiacono was a four-year starter who helped lift the Wildcats back to the NCAA Tournament as a freshman in 2012-13. In his four years as a starter, the Wildcats won 117 games and BIG EAST titles in 2014-16. As a junior, he was named co-BIG EAST Player of the Year. He stands fourth on the Wildcats’ all-time assists list (535) with his final pass finding Kris Jenkins for the game-winner in a 77-74 NCAA championship game victory over North Carolina in 2016. With the addition of Arcidiacono, the men’s basketball program will have retired 23 former jerseys, including 18 players, three coaches and long-time trainer Jake Nevin. A plaque in the lobby of Finneran Pavilion recognizes each honoree, while the jersey number remains in circulation.
Sophomore guard Trevonn Pitts (Cheltenham) had 18 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in Chestnut Hill’s 75-66 loss to Wilmington University on Wednesday.
Freshman Robbie Heath (Abington) scored 20 points in 12th-ranked West Chester’s 89-84 loss to Lock Haven on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 79-71 win over Mansfield, Heath led the way with 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. In West Chester’s 79-70 loss to Shippensburg, Heath had a game-high 20 points to go along with nine rebounds. The loss snapped a 13-game win streak. In West Chester’s 91-72 win over Edinboro, Heath contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Redshirt junior Max Wagner (Pennridge) had 13 points in Bloomsburg’s 95-80 loss to Lock Haven on Friday. In Wednesday’s 102-78 loss to Shippensburg, Wagner had 16 points in 20 minutes off the bench.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Lizzie Oleary (Abington) had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists in the University of Delaware’s 80-59 win over Hofstra.
Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed nine points, five assists and eight rebounds in Bucknell’s 71-50 victory over Lehigh on Saturday. It was the sixth straight win for Bucknell. In Wednesday’s 68-43 win over American, O’Brien recorded a career-high five steals to go along with six points. In Bucknell’s 61-34 victory over Navy, O’Brien hauled in a game-best nine boards and also scored six points.
Lauren Fortescue (Plymouth Whitemarsh) connected on 3-of-5 shots from long range and finished with 15 points, four assists and three steals in Salisbury’s 82-55 win over St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 72-63 loss to Mary Washington, Fortescue notched 12 points while dishing out five assists and pulling down five rebounds.
University of the Sciences junior Irisa Ye (North Penn) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball
Player of the Week for her performance during the week ending Jan. 5. It is her second career CACC Player of the Week and her second weekly honor from the league this season after being named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11. The junior was also named the CACC Rookie of the Week during her freshman season. Ye led both games in scoring en route to averaging 23.5 points on 54.5 percent shooting (18-of-33) in 30.0 minutes per game as USciences opened the New Year by defeating No. 21 St. Thomas Aquinas and Concordia. She also made 9-of-11 free throw attempts and added averages of 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per contest. The North Penn grad sealed the victory over the nationally-ranked Spartans with two free throws to make it a four-point game with seven seconds remaining, putting a stamp on a game-high 21-point performance, which also included five rebounds. Ye finished with a game-high 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting in just 26 minutes at Concordia, making 4-of-5 free throws and 2-of-3 3-pointers while adding a game and career-high four steals as well as a team-high three assists and three boards. Ye poured in a career-best 33 points on 15-of-26 shooting while also contributing five assists in No. 24 University of the Sciences 67-50 win over Post on Saturday. Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) added 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go along with game-highs of eight rebounds and five assists. In Wednesday’s 72-32 win over Caldwell, Ye led all players with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting, highlighted by 4-of-5 3-pointers in just 21 minutes. Jess Huber (North Penn) added 19 points, making 6-of-10 from beyond the arc in 22 minutes. Vitelli contributed seven points, and Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) dished out a game-high four assists in just 13 minutes. In last Saturday’s 82-41 win over Bloomfield, Vitelli led all players with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 22 minutes, and the senior made three 3-pointers to move into second in program history with 237 for her career. Huber also made her 100th career trifecta in the contest. In USciences 60-44 victory over Jefferson, Ye (14 points, four rebounds, four assists), Huber (13 points, six rebounds, four assists) and Vitelli (10 points, seven rebounds, two assists) all finished in double figures. Giuliani had four blocks and five rebounds.
Sophomore Kate Connolly (Souderton) scored seven points – all in the first half – in Drexel University’s 63-59 overtime win over the University of Delaware on Sunday. In Drexel’s 74-54 victory over Hofstra last Sunday, Connolly hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points, four assists, four steals, three rebounds and a block. In Drexel’s 50-41 win over Northeastern, Connolly had seven points.
Emory University senior Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) was named the University Athletic Association Co-Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 12 after leading the Eagles to a win over Rochester. Chernow produced a season-high 20 points to lead the Eagles to a 21-point victory over the Yellowjackets, 86-65. She finished 8-for-10 from the field and was 3-for-3 from the line as Emory won its fifth game in a row to improve to 10-2. She added a team-high six rebounds and had one assist, block and steal each in the win. For the season, Chernow ranks fourth on the team with a 10.3 points per game average while adding 4.6 rebounds per game, 32 assists and 10 steals.
Chernow finished with 15 points and was a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe in Emory’s 74-59 win over No. 22 New York University on Friday.
Sam Carangi (North Penn) had a career-high nine points on three 3-pointers in Villanova’s 58-41 loss to Butler.
Swarthmore College freshman Dana Bandurick (Council Rock South) garnered Centennial Conference Player of the Week honors for the week ending Jan. 12. It is the second time she has received this honor. Bandurick led the Garnet to a 2-1 week with averages of 19.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 4.3 steals and 1.7 block per contest while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor and 88.2 percent from the free throw line. In the victory against Washington College, Bandurick netted 18 points on 80 percent shooting while adding 14 boards, five steals and four blocks. In the mid-week contest against Muhlenberg, Bandurick compiled her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds along with four assists and three steals. Against Bryn Mawr, Bandurick scored a game-high 21 points and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line while also contributing seven rebounds, five assists, five steals and one block in 28 minutes of action.
Bandurick had 14 points, five boards, three steals and three assists in Swarthmore College’s 68-59 win over Dickinson on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-42 loss to Haverford, Bandurick finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Freshman Miranda Liebtag (Abington) scored 13 points in Cabrini’s 77-70 loss to the College of Staten Island on Friday. In Wednesday’s 104-77 win over Gwynedd Mercy, junior Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) paced the offense with a game-high 22 points in just 26 minutes. Liebtag also finished in double figures with 10 points. In last Saturday’s 76-67 win over Marymount, Edwards had 13 points while Sydney Kesselman (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had seven points.

In Wednesday’s 74-48 win over Moravian, Mason had 12 points and nine rebounds. In last Saturday’s 78-70 loss to Elizabethtown, Mason had a season-high 23 points.
Freshman Alexa Brodie (Central Bucks South) had six points, four assists and two steals in Colgate’s 73-52 win over Lafayette on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 80-55 win over Navy, Brodie had eight points. In Colgate’s 100-93 win over Army, Brodie tallied 13 points and three assists.
Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) had a game-high nine rebounds in Washington College’s 57-42 loss to McDaniel on Wednesday. In Washington College’s 53-47 loss to Johns Hopkins last Saturday, Quattro had a game best 10 rebounds.
Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) had 12 points in Arcadia University’s 60-48 win over Alvernia on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 71-54 loss to Messiah, Dunn led the Knights with 25 points and eight rebounds.
Junior Bridget Birkhead (Central Bucks East) hit two 3-pointers and had three steals in Mount St. Mary’s 76-70 win at Bryant last Saturday. With the win, Mount St. Mary’s improved to 3-0 in the NEC at 3-0.
Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) had 20 points and 16 rebounds in Ursinus College’s 68-61 loss to Muhlenberg on Wednesday. She moved into fifth place on the program’s all-time rebounding list. The double-double was her seventh of the season. She also contributed three blocks, two assists and two steals. In last Saturday’s 51-45 loss to Dickinson, Konstanzer accounted for 44.4 percent of the offensive output with 20 points. It’s the sixth time this season and third consecutive game that Konstanzer has hit the 20-point mark. The senior added 10 rebounds to record her sixth double-double. She also had a season-high six steals. In the Bears’ 61-51 win over McDaniel, Konstanzer scored the final 11 points of the game to snap a three-game losing streak. The senior captain racked up a season-high 30 points, including a rare 3-pointer, to go over 1,400 points for her career, becoming only the fourth player in team history to reach the milestone.
Freshman Haley Meinel (Central Bucks South) finished with a season-high 20 points, four rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist in Thomas Jefferson University’s 70-68 loss to Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday. Senior Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) added 12 points, four assists, three boards and two steals. Junior Sabria Lytes (Harry S Truman) recorded 10 points. In Wednesday’s 63-55 win over Goldey-Beacom, Williams posted a game-high 20 points, five assists and three steals. Lytes finished with 13 points and five rebounds off the bench. Meinel tallied six points and four steals. In last Saturday’s 73-57 win over Concordia (N.Y.), Lytes finished with a career-high 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting. She added 10 rebounds and three blocks. Williams posted 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. In Jefferson’s 60-44 loss to No. 24 USciences, Williams had nine points and Meinel had eight. Williams became the 10th Ram to reach 1,400 career points.
Freshman Tamia Wessels (Abington) had a season-high 16 points, and freshman Haley Crossley (William Tennent) had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with six points, two blocks and an assist in Gwynedd Mercy’s 83-71 loss to Marymount on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 104-77 loss at Cabrini, Crossley and Wessels both had nine points. In last Saturday’s 108-70 win over Marywood, Wessels finished with 13. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 100-75 win over Penn State-Harrisburg, Crossley was the top rebounder with seven and Wessels handed out five assists.
Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) had a team-high 22 points, her eighth game this season with 20 or more, in Widener’s 77-56 win over Hood on Sunday afternoon. In Wednesday’s 83-72 loss to No. 24/10 Albright, Rimmer scored 18 points. In last Saturday’s 76-66 loss to Stevenson, Rimmer led the Pride with 20 points. In the Pride’s 75-62 victory over No. 24/20 Messiah, Rimmer led the scoring with 21 points.

In last Saturday’s 83-75 win over Felician University, Spratt had three rebounds, five assists and a steal. In Chestnut Hill’s 86-49 loss to Towson University, sophomore forward Bri Hewlett (North Penn) came off the bench for a team-high 12 points. She also had four rebounds and an assist.

The win was the fifth straight for the Golden Bears. In Wednesday’s 69-57 win over Mansfield, Wright had 10 points, including a key 3-pointer late in the game. She added four rebounds, three blocks and one steal. In KU’s 86-79 come-from-behind win at Millersville, Wright finished with eight points and four rebounds.
Mia Leonard (Cheltenham) scored 10 points, including a 4-for-4 effort at the foul line, in Millersville’s 62-61 loss to Bloomsburg last Saturday.
Junior Payton Spadaccino (Council Rock South) poured in a career-high 13 points in Bloomsburg’s 62-61 win over Millersville last Saturday. The CR South grad reached double figures for the first time in her career with the Huskies as she went 5-for-7 from the field and 1-for-1 from beyond the arc. Spadaccino was also 2-for-3 from the free throw line and added six rebounds and four steals.

Ridge Hagar (North Penn) was part of Messiah’s first place 200 medley relay that finished in a time of 1:42.21 in Friday’s double-dual against Immaculata and Stevenson. Hagar also finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.43, second among Messiah swimmers this year. He was part of the first place 200 free relay that finished with a time of 1:31.05. In Messiah’s 146-107 victory over King’s last Saturday, Hagar was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:41.01 and the first place 200 free relay. He also finished first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.69 and followed that with a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.06.
Senior Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.39 in Shippensburg’s 112-93 victory over Edinboro last Saturday. In Shippensburg’s 170-108 loss to Gannon, Beyer broke the 10-minute mark in the 1000-yard freestyle, taking first with a time of 9:55.56.
Mark Lukens (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay that touched the wall in 3:27.96 in Widener’s 147-115 loss to Arcadia on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 131-123 victory over Cabrini, Lukens was part of the first place 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:33.22. The PW graduate also claimed the 50 free at 23.28.
Penn State junior Bryce Hoch (North Penn) tied with Navy’s Jake Hedrick as the men’s high scorer of the weekend after placing fourth on the 1-meter (286.10), third on the 3-meter (290.10) and third on the platform (242.30) at the Navy Diving Invitational that concluded Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Luke Emig (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a PSAC qualifying time in the 100 freestyle (49.04) in Bloomsburg’s 120.5-73.5 loss to Penn State on Friday. Senior Corey Smith (North Penn) took sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.03.

At last Friday’s Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College, Merriman achieved a new personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:10.54.
Messiah freshman Josiah Moyer (Souderton) finished ninth in the mile with a time of 4:38.20 at Susquehanna University’s Orange and Maroon Classic on Saturday.

At last Saturday’s unscored Nittany Lion Challenge, the Hawks put together their fastest 4x400m relay of the season with sophomore Michael Welde (Council Rock North), freshman Ladi Bamgbose (Pennsbury) and sophomore Kyle Magee (Central Bucks South) all part of the relay that crossed in 3:20.91. Sophomore Aidan Sauer (Pennsbury) finished fourth in a field of 10 in the 800m (1:56.70).
Ursinus College senior Brody Johnson (Central Bucks West) broke the school record in the heptathlon at the Dutchmen Invitational at Lebanon Valley on Friday. His 3:16.11 1000m scored him 515 points to give him a grand total of 3206.
Widener junior Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) was the top Division III finisher in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.25, placing seventh overall at the Moravian Indoor Invitational on Saturday. He also placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.48 meters and took seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 23.70.
West Chester sophomore Ori Frazier (Abington) finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.02 at the Golden Bear Invitational last weekend.

St. Joseph’s University senior Meridith Twomey (Pennsbury) was part of the winning distance medley relay team at the unscored Moravian Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 12:58.22. Freshman Brooke Martin (Central Bucks East) was part of the fifth place 4x400m relay team that crossed the finished line with a time of 4:26.06. At last Saturday’s unscored Nittany Lion Challenge, senior Monica Higgins (Plymouth Whitemarsh) took another 1.42 off her time in the 800m for a time of 2:16.10, good for fifth in a field of seven. Freshman Katie Fox (Central Bucks East) ran the anchor leg of the 4×400 relay that finished in a time of 4:03.58.
Villanova junior Cala Lejman (Wissahickon) finished third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.60 meters at the Wesley A Brown Invitational on Saturday. At last Saturday’s Great Dane Classic, Lejman recorded a height of 3.50 to finish ninth.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Sara Gray (William Tennent) won the high jump with a top mark of 1.58 meters which she nailed on her third and final try at the Moravian College Indoor Meet on Saturday.
La Salle freshman Jenna Webb (North Penn) finished 27th in the 800-meter event at the Penn 8-Team Select on Saturday. At Fordham’s Robert Elkin Invitational, Webb placed seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:27.76. Sophomore Arianna Wallace (Cheltenham) was part of the third place 4×400 relay that finished in 4:09.33. Freshman Jenna Smith (Plymouth Whitemarsh) took 10th in the 200m dash with a time of 28.25.
West Chester senior Tara McLaughlin (North Penn) placed fourth in the 5000m run with a time of 18:32.18 at the Gotham Cup Meet on Friday. At last weekend’s Golden Bear Invitational, McLaughlin finished second in the 3000-meter with a time of 11:00.72. Emma Brodhag (William Tennent) finished sixth in the long jump (10.60 meters). Cara Jackson (Souderton) was third in the 400m dash (1:04.87), and Makayla Bucci (William Tennent) finished sixth with a time of 1:05.23.
Bloomsburg junior Kathleen Stevenson (North Penn) finished first in the long jump with a PSAC qualifying distance of 5.56 meters (18’3”) at the Orange and Maroon Classic on Saturday. At the Moravian Invitational Saturday, Barbara Grossov (Quakertown) finished second in the weight throw with a PR of 46- 2 ½.
WRESTLING
Western New England University freshman Corey Cope (Quakertown) finished fourth in the 133-pound weight class at the Williams College Open.
Millersville freshman Jackson Erb (Neshaminy) earned a pair of victories at 149 at the Kutztown Duals on Saturday. Erb earned a 7-0 decision over Anthony Pencook from Davis & Elkins and also notched a 7-5 decision over Joey Hancock from Queens (N.C.). At last weekend’s “Shorty” Hitchcock Memorial Tournament, Erb lost his first bout at 149 but battled back through the consolation bracket, winning a pair of matches before falling 5-3 to Buffalo’s Ty Raines.
