TJ Brasier (Harry S Truman) had two of his team’s seven hits in Gwynedd Mercy’s 19-1 loss to Salisbury in Saturday’s season opener.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) tied a career high 36 points on 13-of-23 shooting in Ithaca’s 98-71 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday. The Rock North grad was 10-of-19 from 3-point range, and his 10 3-pointers tied a school record for made 3s to match a record set in 1994. He also dished out seven assists in 33 minutes of action. In last Sunday’s 62-60 win over RPI, Thompson had 12 points. In last Saturday’s 93-82 win at Union College, Thompson, who missed the past four games, went 11-for-11 at the foul line as part of a 22-point effort.
John Ryan (William Tennent) netted 18 points to bring his career total to 989 points in Penn State Abington’s 94-51 loss to Penn State Berks on Wednesday.
Billy Warren (Pennsbury) finished with five points, five rebounds and three steals in Cabrini’s 94-84 victory over Marywood on Wednesday.
Junior Mike Bealer (Souderton) had 14 points, which included four 3s, in DeSales University’s 81-72 win over Wilkes University last Saturday.
Damian Washington (Upper Moreland) finished with a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds in Delaware Valley University’s 69-64
loss to Eastern University last Saturday. In the Aggies 65-64 victory over Misericordia, Washington needed just nine points to reach the 1,000-point career plateau, and he got it with his fifth field goal of the night. Washington scored the milestone basket with a putback for his 10th point of the game and 1,001 of his career. The UM grad played 40 minutes and scored a game-high 29 points to go with 11 rebounds and two assists. He shot 11-for-20 from the field, 2-for-5 from 3-point land and 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
Senior Will Derr (Upper Dublin) led all players with 15 rebounds in Arcadia’s 85-72 Senior Day win over Hood College on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Trevonn Pitts (Cheltenham) scored 12 points in Chestnut Hill’s 96-73 loss to Nyack College last Saturday. In Chestnut Hill’s 96-85 loss to Wilmington University, Pitts contributed 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Freshman guard Robbie Heath (Abington) scored 50 points in West Chester’s 100-97 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday. Heath is the second player in Golden Rams history to reach 50 points in a game. The other was Art Nazigan who had 53 in 1952. Heath is the first PSAC player since 2004-05 to score 50 in a game. Only 16 PSAC players in history have ever scored more than 50. Heath’s 26 points in the 13 first-half minutes had the Golden Rams in the driver’s seat as they were up 52-44 going into halftime. In Wednesday’s 83-78 loss to Shepherd, Heath had a game-high 28 points in 33 minutes. He leads the PSAC and Division II freshmen by a wide margin at 22.5 points per game this season. Heath tied his season high with six made threes in the loss.
Redshirt junior Max Wagner (Pennridge) scored a career-tying 32 points in Bloomsburg’s 100-97 loss at West Chester on Saturday. The Pennridge grad went 10-of-16 from the field and 12-of-17 from the foul line. Wagner also had a team-high eight rebounds. In last Saturday’s 85-74 loss to Shepherd, Wagner had 15 points. In the Huskies’ 99-88 loss to East Stroudsburg, Wagner had 19 points and a team-best nine rebounds.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double in a row in Ursinus College’s 64-62 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 64-63 loss to Washington College, Konstanzer led the Bears with 27 points and 14 rebounds. In the Bears 78-49 loss to Dickinson, Konstanzer finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. In a 68-59 loss to #19 Gettysburg, Konstanzer had 17 points and 10 rebounds. In the Bears’ 56-54 loss to Muhlenberg, Konstanzer wound up with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and collected a dozen rebounds. She also had three blocks and two steals.
Junior Bridget Birkhead (Central Bucks East) contributed six points and five rebounds in Mount St Mary’s 68-44 win over St. Francis University to help the Mount improve to 10-2 in the NEC. Birkhead is second in three-point shooting percentage in the NEC on the season at 39.8 percent. In last Saturday’s 67-62 win over St. Francis Brooklyn, Birkhead connected from beyond the arc late in the game. She leads the Mount in 3-point shooting percentage. Birkhead was also a Dean’s List recipient this past fall semester for her fifth straight award. She has been a recipient of the NEC Commissioner’s Award for achieving a minimum 3.75 GPA in every semester at St. Mary’s.
Sophomore Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed nine points, four rebounds and three assists in Bucknell’s 60-57 victory at American University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 75-65 win over Navy, O’Brien had 11 points. In last Saturday’s 66-42 victory over Loyola (Md.), O’Brien scored 11 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and a game-high three steals.
Sophomore Lauren Fortescue (Plymouth Whitemarsh) tied a season-high 20 points in Salisbury’s 72-68 loss to Christopher Newport on Saturday. The sophomore guard went 8-for-14 from the field and 4-for-7 at the foul line while adding two assists, a rebound and a steal. In last Saturday’s 53-45 win over Southern Virginia, Fortescue tallied 12 points and also had four steals.
University of the Sciences junior Irisa Ye (North Penn) was named the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for January. The North Penn grad earned the monthly honor for demonstrating success on the court, in the classroom while also giving
back to her local community. She also received the accolade in December of 2018. Ye averaged 20.9 points per game during the month, helping to lead the Devils to second in the D2SIDA East Region Women’s Basketball Poll following a 9-0 mark during the month. She logged double figures in scoring in each game during January and shot 57 percent from the field. She also shot at a 55 percent clip from beyond the arc. Ye was a two-time CACC Player of the Week (Jan. 6 and Jan. 20) and also posted averages of 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steal per game. Ye had several memorable performances during January, including pouring in a game-high 21 points to lift the Devils to a thrilling 59-55 win over No. 21 nationally-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas on Jan. 3. She pumped in a career-best 32 points on 15-of-26 shooting in a 67-50 win over CACC North Division leader Post University on Jan. 18 and also had a 26-point effort in a triumph over Concordia College on Jan. 4. Academically, Ye sports a 3.93 cumulative grade point average in her major of biomedical sciences. The junior earned CACC All-Academic Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District Team honors last season. She is a five-time Dean’s List honoree and posted a perfect 4.0 GPA during her fall 2019 semester. Ye is involved in several initiatives on campus and in the surrounding community. She takes part in several on-campus organizations, including the Pre-Med Society, the Black Student Union, the Asian Student Association, the Neuroscience Club, and the Pilipino Cultural Association. Ye has also joined her teammates in community service projects that ranged from raising money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand and working a Hoops for Hope Tournament that raises funds for the Cure Starts Now Foundation. Ye is the first USciences’ student-athlete to earn the CACC Student-Athlete of the Month Award during the 2019-20 season.
Ye was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 2. She is a two-time CACC Player of the Week award winner this season. Opponents averaged 53.5 points against USciences for the week, shooting just 38.2 percent. After finishing with a team-high five defensive rebounds in a win at Jefferson, Ye closed out the week with a career-best six steals in a victory at Nyack.
Jordan Vitalli (Central Bucks South) led a balanced scoring attack with a game-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in just 11 minutes in No. 18 University of the Sciences 88-58 win at Felician on Saturday. Jeff Huber (North Penn) also made four 3-pointers en route to 12 points to move into a tie for third in the program’s single season history with 69 triples on the year. Ye added 11 points to go along with a team-high five assists. In Wednesday’s 99-53 victory at Georgian Court, which extended the Devils’ winning streak to 15 games, Ye led the way with career highs of 34 points and nine rebounds as well as five assists and three steals in just 21 minutes. She made 11-of-12 field goals and 12-of-14 foul shots. Vitelli and Huber were also in double figures with 16 points and 10 points, respectively. Vitelli made 4-of-6 triples to end the night tied for second with 69 on the year while Huber is now tied for fifth with 65 after making 2-of-3. In last Saturday’s 67-58 win over Dominican, Ye had a game-high 27 points. She made 10-of-16 shots from the field and 7-of-8 free throws while also leading all players with eight rebounds. Vitelli scored 23 while grabbing eight rebounds. She ended the day seventh in program history with 1,307 career points. Vitelli made five 3-pointers to move into a tie for fourth in the program’s single-season annals with 65. Mikaela Giiuliani (North Penn), who connected on her first career 3-pointer, ended the afternoon sixth in program history with 89 career blocks after leading all players with six assists, three blocks and two steals. In USciences’ 80-52 win over Goldey-Beacom, Huber connected on all seven of her 3-point attempts in the second half en route to a game-high 26 points. She finished the game 8-of-12 from beyond the arc. Vitelli had a near-perfect shooting performance, connecting on 7-of-8 shots from the floor and 5-of-6 from beyond the arc to finish with 19 points in just 21 minutes. Ye finished with 21 points, 14 in the third quarter. She also had a team-high six rebounds.
Sophomore Kate Connolly (Souderton) gave the Dragons a major boost in the first half, going 4-of-4 from beyond the arc to tie her career high of 12 points in the opening period of Drexel’s 67-51 win over Northeastern last Sunday, the Dragons 10th straight win. In Drexel’s 45-32 win over Hofstra, Connolly connected on three 3-pointers off the bench for nine points. She also had two steals and a game-high two blocks. In Drexel’s 70-48 win over James Madison, Connolly scored 11 points.
Jefferson University senior Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named the CACC Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 9. It
is the second time she has received the honor this season. Williams averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in leading the Rams to two victories. She shot 43.6 percent for the week, 42.9 percent from three. The senior scored a game-high 24 points with six rebounds, five assists and one steal versus Southern Connecticut State. She then led all scorers with 29 points and added five boards and two assists in the Rams’ upset of first-place Post.
Williams led four players in double figures with 14 points in Jefferson University’s 79-40 win over Nyack on Saturday. She added six rebounds and five assists. Freshman Haley Meinel (Central Bucks South) had 10 points. In Wednesday’s 84-71 win over Wilmington (Del.), Williams surpassed the 30-point mark for the second time this season, leading all scorers with 31 points. She shot 13-for-22, including 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Williams added seven assists and three rebounds. Meinel tallied 14 points, and junior Sabria Lytes (Harry S Truman) contributed nine points and eight rebounds. In last Saturday’s 69-65 win over Post, Williams had 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting. She was 5-for-10 from three and 6-for-6 at the line and is now in seventh place on the Rams’ all-time scoring list with 1,590 points. Lytes registered 16 points, four boards, two steals and one assist. In Jefferson’s 66-54 win over Southern Connecticut State, Williams had a game-high 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and one steal. Meinel added 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Lytes had 14 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Senior Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) tied for the game-high with 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting in Emory University’s 51-39 win over No. 13/21 University of Chicago last Friday. In Emory’s 85-83 overtime loss to Washington University in St. Louis, Chernow finished with a season-high 23 points (14 after halftime), eight rebounds and a game-high six assists.
Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones (Cheltenham) scored 22 points and added a game-high eight assists to go along with a pair of steals in Temple’s 76-75 victory over Houston on Saturday. In Temple’s 85-75 loss to Wichita State, Jones finished with 24 points and five assists.
Freshman Kassondra Brown (Abington) had eight points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench in the University of Rhode Island’s 72-63 victory over Saint Louis Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 71-60 loss to Dayton, Brown finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
University of Scranton senior Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) was named Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 9.
The West graduate averaged 19.5 points per game in two games and led the Lady Royals to a 2-0 week that included a 65-52 win over first place Catholic. Mason started the week by hitting a layup with one second left to lift the Lady Royals past Susquehanna 62-61. The West grad scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting in that contest and tallied 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting as Scranton pulled into a tie for first place in the Landmark Conference standings with its 65-52 win over Catholic. On the season, Mason leads the team at 13.4 points per game.
Mason scored 17 points in No. 14 University of Scranton’s 69-57 victory over Juniata on Saturday. In Wednesday’ 64-57 win over Moravian, Mason had 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Senior Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) tallied 23 points and eight rebounds in Arcadia’s 72-65 Senior Day win over Hood College on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 80-77 overtime win over Lycoming, Dunn led the way with 25 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:52 remaining in overtime. She also shared the team lead with six rebounds. In Arcadia’s 69-38 win over Alvernia, Dunn led the team with 12 points to go along with three steals.
Millersville junior Mia Leonard (Cheltenham) was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 9. The junior
center earned the accolade following a career-high performance in the game against Kutztown. Leonard recorded a team-high four defensive rebounds and totaled a career-high five blocks. She helped lead the Marauders’ offensive efforts, shooting 13-of-26 from the field for a career high 26 points. Leonard leads the team in blocks, tallying 34 in 19 games. She averages 1.8 blocks per game and ranks third in the PSAC for blocked shots. This marks the second time Leonard has earned the distinction this honor this season. Leonard was the first Marauder to reach double-digit rebounding this season with 13 in the victory over California (Pa.).
Junior Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) scored 19 points while freshman Miranda Liebtag (Abington) also finished in double figures with 10 in Cabrini’s 107-88 victory over Gwynedd Mercy last Saturday.
Freshman Megan Bealer (Souderton) hit two 3s and had 10 points in No. 25 DeSales University’s 74-46 win over Misericorida on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 90-34 win over Wilkes University, sophomore Emma Stanfield (William Tennent) had 11 points and two blocks. In DeSales’ 60-53 win over FDU-Florham, Bealer had 12 points.
Senior forward Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) buried a free throw with 1.8 seconds left to give Washington College a 77-76 victory over No. 22 Gettysburg on Saturday. The HH graduate scored eight points and had a pair of steals. In Wednesday’s 64-63 victory over Ursinus, Quattro corralled a team-high 13 rebounds to go along with seven points and three blocks. In Washington College’s 53-42 loss to Haverford, Quattro had six points, six rebounds and a career-high five blocks.
Haley Crossley (William Tennent) had 15 points and Tamia Wessels (Abington) had 13 in Gwynedd Mercy’s 110-89 victory at Neumann on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 85-50 loss at Marymount, Wessels led the Griffins with 10 points while Crossley added seven points, seven rebounds and three steals. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 103-75 win over Marywood, Crossley had a game-high 17 points and Wessels added 11 points.
Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) led four players in double figures with 16 points in Widener’s 77-65 Senior Day win over Alvernia on Saturday. In Widener’s 69-53 loss to Messiah, Rimmer had a team-high 19 points.
Sophomore forward Bri Hewlett (North Penn) contributed eight points, three rebounds and three assists off the bench in Chestnut Hill’s 77-71 win at Bloomfield on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 68-58 win over Nyack, Hewlett shared game scoring honors with 22 points. The North Penn grad scored all but two of her team’s 15 second-quarter points.
Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) contributed nine points and three blocks in Kutztown’s 70-61 win over Lock Haven last Saturday.
SOFTBALL
Morgan Gianelle (Cheltenham) singled and drove in a run in Marist’s 7-0 win over Green Bay at the Bruin Challenge in Nashville, Tenn. She also had eight assists and two putouts at the hot corner. In Marist’s 5-3 win over Belmont University, Gianelle was 1-for-2 with a walk, double, RBI and run scored.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Ridge Hagar (North Penn) was part of Messiah’s 800 free relay that set a new program record with a time of 6:56.38 at the Middle Atlantic Conference meet on Saturday. Their time placed them third in the event, earning All-Conference honors. On Friday, Hagar was part of the 200 free relay that set a new program record with a time of 1:24.98 to take second in the event. He also took fifth place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:13.49 in the finals. On Thursday, Hagar set a new program mark in the 200 IM prelims with a time of 1:56.01 and Messiah’s 200 medley relay team turning in a time of 1:34.93 in the finals. The 200 medley relay took third in the event, breaking the previous record by more than a second as they picked up Messiah’s first All-Conference relay honor on the men’s side in two years. In the prelims, Hagar broke the program record in the 200 IM by half a second with a time of 1:56.01. Hagar’s record-breaking performance earned him a spot in the ‘A’ final where he finished in sixth place in a time of 1:56.88. Hagar was the only individual to compete in an ‘A’ final on the men’s side for Messiah.
Albright senior Adam Thron (Hatboro-Horsham) beat his best time this season by 12 seconds after posting a time of 5:22.81 in the 500 freestyle on day one of the MAC Championships Thursday.
Arcadia senior Mark Preedy (William Tennent) finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke in the A final (58.43) on day three of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship meet on Saturday. He also was part of the fifth place 800 free relay that posted a time of 7:05.73, cutting just over 15 seconds off their seed time. On Thursday, Preedy was part of the 200 medley relay that finished third with a time of 1:35.99. He also competed in the A final of the 50 free, placing fifth with a time of 21.48.
Mark Lukens (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of Widener’s 200 medley relay that finished sixth with a time of 1:59.34 on day one of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Thursday.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Arcadia senior Rachel Samson (Council Rock North) was part of the second place 800 free relay that posted a time of 7:56.81 at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship on Saturday. Samson also finished eighth in the final heat of the 200 butterfly, clocking a time of 2:14.92. On Friday, Samson was part of the 200 freestyle relay that posted a time of 1:40.53 to finish third. She also was part of the sixth place 400 medley relay (4:09.90). On Thursday, Samson finished eighth in the A final of the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.03.
Sammy Grogan (Council Rock North) was part of Widener’s 800 free relay team that posted a time of 8:02.20 to place fifth on day three of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday.
Emma O’Neill (Abington) was part of West Chester’s 400 freestyle relay team that finished third with a time of 3:37.32 at the Drexel University Invitational on Friday.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Holy Family junior MJ Powlowicz (Harry S Truman) established a personal best in the 500 meters with a time of 1:10.32 in the inaugural University of Albany Winter Classic last weekend.
Messiah freshman Josiah Moyer (Souderton) claimed eighth place in the 5000 meter with a time of 16:16.36 at the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College last weekend.
Saint Joseph’s junior Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) was part of the distance medley relay that recorded a time of 9:56.88, good for third in the field of 11 at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday. The time marks the fastest SJU DMR of the season and will serve as the Hawks’ seed time for the upcoming IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships. At the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday, freshman Ladi Bamgbose (Pennsbury), sophomore Kyle Magee (Central Bucks South) and sophomore Michael Welde (Council Rock North) were part of the 4×400 relay that earned third in a field of 11 (3:21.03). Sophomore Javier Lindres (Pennsbury) ran a collegiate-best 800m time of 1:55.22 to place fourth in a field of 23 in the 800m invitational section of the program. Sophomore Dan Mink (Pennsbury) placed seventh in the 800m field of 51 with a time of 1:58.79, just 1.39 off his PR. At last weekend’s Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College, Welde finished fourth in the 400m dash (51.17).
Villanova senior Casey Comber (Hatboro-Horsham) ran the 3000 meters and notched a first place finish at the FastTrack National Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 8:21.78.
Ursinus junior Griffin McMann (Pennridge) place third in the shot put with a distance of 48-6.75 at the Frank Colden Invitational last Saturday. Daniel Powell (Central Bucks East) scored a new PR in the 3000m with a time of 16:22.60. Brody Johnson (Central Bucks West) competed in the pentathlon, grabbing PRs in the 1000 (3:05.75) and high jump (5-1.00).
Shippensburg redshirt sophomore Shamar Jenkins (Souderton) improved his season best in the triple jump with a second place NCAA provisional qualifier of 48 feet, four inches at the 2020 VMI Indoor Classic on Friday. At last weekend’s Sykes & Sebock Challenge, Jenkins finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet, 3 ½ inches.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Elijah Rizzo (Bensalem) won the high jump for the third straight meet he entered at the Monmouth Mercy University Winter Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. His jump of 2.00 meters bested a bevy of Division I competitors. In the 3000 meters, Thomas Balla (Bensalem) placed ninth with a time of 10:07.26. He also was part of the 4×400 relay team that finished in a time of 3:59.47. At last weekend’s Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College, Rizzo claimed the high jump with a top leap of 2.02 meters. Balla was part of the 4×400 relay that finished in a time of 9:30.30. Ilya Soulaimanova (Council Rock North) competed in the 400 meters where he timed in at 1:02.09.
Widener sophomore Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) took first place in the 200 meters with a time of 23.07 at the McElligott Invitational on Saturday. The Pennridge grad also won the long jump with a distance of 6.66 meters. His jump ranked fourth among all MAC athletes this season. He also placed third in the 60 meters, clocking a time of 7.16. Andrew Crosby (Cheltenham) was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 53.14.
Kutztown University sophomore George Weems (Upper Dublin) was the top collegiate finisher in the 200-meter dash and moved to third on KU men’s indoor track and field top 10 list at the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday. Weems ran a personal best 21.83 in the 200m invite, winning his section and placing behind only former D1 sprinter Miles Lewis (Buffalo), who was running for club EliteFeats. KU’s sophomore gained nearly three-tenths of a second over his former PR (22.12) while jumping Greg Crawford (21.84 in 2011) and Dan Patton (22.00 in 2003) on the program’s indoor top 10 list. Weems, last year’s KU Male Rookie of the Year, was just .14 shy of a NCAA provisional time and recorded the second fastest time in the PSAC this season. Kutztown freshman Savaughn Hebron (Neshaminy) matched the sixth fastest time in school history to claim the 200-meter dash in the Fastrack National Invitational Friday. Hebron’s debut season has already been a success. The Neshaminy grad is qualified for the 200m and 400m at the upcoming PSAC Indoor Championships. His potential to be a point scorer in both events was furthered by Friday’s performance. In the 200m, Hebron ran a PR of 22.31 to win the event. Hebron also set a PR in the 400m with a 50.38, putting forth PSAC existing times in both events. Freshman Harley Cheatham (Bensalem) captured first place in the college section of the high jump with a personal best of 6’6.25 (1.99m) and elevated three spots on the program’s indoor top 10 list, going from a tie for 10th into a tie for seventh. Tommy Oliver (Bensalem) tied for second in the event, clearing 6’4.25” (1.94m). Cameron Christopher (Wissahickon) was part of the 4×400 relay team that ran a season best 3:21.41 to finish fourth. It was the second fastest time in the PSAC this season behind only Shippensburg. At last weekend’s East Stroudsburg Quad Meet, Cheatham won the high jump by clearing 6’4.75” (1.95m) to tie his best ever mark.
Tom Khayt (Central Bucks South) and William Gallagher (Plymouth Whitemarsh) were part of West Chester’s 200 medley relay team that took third place at the Drexel University Winter Invitational with a finals time of 1:36.81 on Friday.
West Chester sophomore Ori Frazier (Abington) earned first place in the 400-meter race with a time of 50.74, a PSAC qualifying time, at last weekend’s quad meet hosted by East Stroudsburg.
Junior Matthew Hart (Pennsbury) set the school record in the weight throw and led Bloomsburg to seven PSAC qualifying marks on the first day of the VMI Indoor Classic on Friday night. Hart won his flight of the weight throw as his longest throw of the afternoon came in his second turn at 17.30 meters, .15 meters longer than the previous school record of 17.15 meters. That record was set by Jack Rosenstein in 2013. The junior finished fifth overall with one of the Huskies’ seven PSAC marks. Senior Declan McDonald (Central Bucks West) finished 23rd in the 5000m run with a time of 16:26.81. At last weekend’s quad meet at East Stroudsburg, Hart hit PSAC marks in both the weight throw and the shot put. Hart took sixth overall in the shot put with a mark of 13.99 meters and placed 10th overall in the weight throw with a toss of 14.16 meters. Hart’s toss of 13.99 meters in the shot put was a season-best as he qualified for the first time in the event this year. His mark is the 12th longest in the conference this season. Junior Justin Ziegler (Souderton) placed sixth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:23.82.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Messiah junior Julia Geisheimer (Neshaminy) posted a time of 28.06 in the 60-meter dash with a time of 28.06 to finish 11th at the Susquehanna Invitational on Saturday.
St. Joseph’s University senior Meridith Twomey (Pennsbury) place ninth in the 3000m field of 56 at the unscored Fastrack National Invitational on Friday, crossing the line in a season-best time of 10:38.73. The time marks the second fastest 3k of her collegiate career and fastest since January 2017 (10:36.72 PR). At the unscored Villanova Invitational, senior Monica Higgins (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished fourth in a field of 18 in the 800m (2:18.75). At Ursinus College’s unscored Frank Colden Invitational, Twomey finished sixth in the mile run with a time of 5:35.11 in a field of 53.
Villanova junior Cala Lejman (Wissahickon) tied her top mark of the season in high jump with a successful attempt at 3.60 meters to finish in fifth place at the Fastrack National Invitational on Saturday. In last weekend’s Sykes and Sabock Challenge at Penn State, Lejman was 17th (3.53 meters).
Ursinus junior Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) finished ninth in the 400m with a time of 1:03.82 at the annual Frank Colden Invitational last Saturday. Amanda Choi (Plymouth Whitemarsh) grabbed a new PR in the mile with a time of 6:19.78.
Lieke Black (Wissahickon) and senior Jordan Higgins (Hatboro-Horsham) were part of Shippensburg’s 4×400 meter relay that posted a season best 3:58.12 at the 2020 VMI Indoor Classic. Higgins ran a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.14.
Temple sophomore Brielle Lewis (Cheltenham) finished 13th in 60m dash prelims at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, posting a time of 8.04. Mikaela Vlasic (North Penn) completed in the 1600m with a time of 4:54.62.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Emily Stewart (Upper Dublin) ran in the 1000 meters for the first time this season and turned in an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:19.31 to finish as the top Division III athlete in the event at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. At last weekend’s Frank Colden Invitational, Bridget D’Arcy (Central Bucks West) competed in the 60 meters (10.10) and 200 meters (33.81). Stewart competed in the mile (5:55.37).
Widener sophomore Chantell Bobak (Souderton) finished fourth with a jump of 4.58 meters at the McElligott Invitational on Saturday.
West Chester junior Cara Jackson (Souderton) placed fifth in the 400m with a time of 1:02.67 at the quad meet hosted by East Stroudsburg last Saturday. Senior Tara McLaughlin (Quakertown) placed sixth in the mile with a time of 5:29.17, a PSAC qualifying time and a personal best.
Bloomsburg junior Kathleen Stevenson (North Penn) and junior Jessica Brenfleck (North Penn) were part of the 4×400 relay that took 13th overall with a time of 4:08.01 at the VMI Indoor Classic on Saturday. On Friday at the VMI Indoor Classic, Brenfleck posted a PSAC time of 1:01.93 in the 400m run to finish 39th overall. At last weekend’s quad meet at East Stroudsburg, Stevenson placed fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 26.69. Brenfleck was seventh in the 800m run with a time of 2:33.36.
Millersville junior Kaitlin Moyer (Quakertown) ran in both the 60-meter hurdles (10.06) and the 60-meter dash (8.54), taking eighth and 10th in the respective events at Friday’s Fastrack National Invitational.
East Stroudsburg sophomore Taylor Allen (Pennsbury) took sixth place in the 200m with a PSAC qualifying time of 26.32 at the Fastrack National Invitational on Saturday. At last weekend’s quad meet at ESU, Barbara Grossov (Quakertown) had a mark of 45-0 ½ in the weight throw. Allen was a new PSAC qualifier in the 55m dash with a time of 7.44.
Swarthmore freshman Adria Retter (Quakertown) finished second in shot put with a throw of 12.75 meters (41’10”) at the Seamus McElligott Invitational on Saturday.

Marshall Nixon (Pennsbury) had six kills on Messiah’s 3-0 sweep of Widener last Friday.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Sophomore Madelyn Koerper (North Penn) had four goals and an assist in La Salle’s 18-15 loss to Salem on at the Mercyhurst Invite on Saturday. In La Salle’s 15-11 win over McKendree, Koerper dished out three assists and finished with a team-high six exclusions earned.
WRESTLING
Western New England University freshman Corey Cope (Quakertown) went 2-0 at 125 – including a 15-3 major decision over Jacob Garcia of Southern Maine – at last Saturday’s quad match that included Alvernia, Southern Maine and Trinity.
Ursinus sophomore Ray Calderaio (Central Bucks South) earned third place at 133 at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday. He pinned Gettysburg’s Jake Stein in the first round. After falling to Washington & Lee’s Chad Cunningham in the semifinals, he pinned McDaniel’s Steve Pabon in 1:25 and scored a 7-2 decision in a rematch with Stein in the consolation final. In the Bears’ 28-18 win over McDaniel, Calderaio earned a major decision (9-1) over Steven Pabon.
