Colette Paprocki stresses the importance of getting off to a fast start. Kylee Hager certainly took her coach’s message to heart, scoring her first goal 29 seconds into the game and adding another late in the first quarter as the Golden Hawks raced out to a 3-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back in Monday’s rivalry game.
“This is always one of those games where you never know what’s going to happen,” Paprocki said. “We came out strong and scored in the first 30 seconds. I’m always asking them to come out strong right away and put one on the board, so I was happy they did that.
“Our last two games we struggled with hanging in there for the full game, so I was happy to see that we were able to this time and not let them come back on us too badly. They did get one in the second, a nice goal by Brenna Schoenfield.”
The first quarter belonged to the Golden Hawks. Hager’s goals – the second with 2:14 remaining in the quarter – were both unassisted. With 46.9 seconds showing on the scoreboard clock, Elise Lindros scored with an assist from Breanna Gable to put the Hawks on top 3-0. Kerry Kaufman scored her first of two goals, using a Hager assist, to put the Hawks on top 4-0 just over a minute into the second quarter.
The Indians broke up the Hawks’ shutout bid when Brenna Schoenfield scored during corner play with 35 seconds remaining in the first half.
With 6:51 remaining in the fourth quarter, Kaufman scored her second goal of the game, this one unassisted, for the 5-1 final.
Hager’s two-goal, one-assist effort led the Golden Hawks.
“She’s doing a nice job – she has a lot of speed and great stickwork up on the line,” Paprocki said. “I was happy to see her get two today and an assist.
“Elise (Lindros) is a freshman, so she keeps getting time here and there. It was nice to see her get her first varsity goal. She was excited about that.”
The Golden Hawks’ coach also had high praise of her defensive backs – Kasey Knapp, Clare Neville and Grace Franchini.
“They played well in the back and did a nice job staying organized and cleared the ball out.”
The Hawks held an advantage in shots (27-4) and corners (13-5).
Council Rock South (2-1, 2-0 SOL) will host Pennsbury on Friday, and Council Rock North (2-2, 1-1) will be on the road at Bensalem on Friday.

Erin Smith had herself a game, scoring a pair of goals and assisting on two others to lead the visiting Titans to the convincing win.
“We changed some people around to spread out our attack, and that worked pretty well tonight,” South coach Pat Toner said. “We were much more productive on our offensive corners. We gave up more corners than I would have liked to have given up, but we held them to one shot on goal.”
Julia Cooper (Smith assist) and Megan Reilly each scored a goal in the first quarter to give the Titans a 2-0 lead that held until the third quarter when Smith (Bella Schute assist) and Rebecca Zakrzewski (Smith assist) both found the cage. Smith’s unassisted goal gave the Titans their final margin of victory.
“A lot of people played really well tonight,” Toner said. “Erin Smith played well. Julia Cooper controlled a lot of the field. Anna Shirley had a really good game – she’s just a solid player all around.
“Our entire defense led by sisters Sarah and Julia Cooper and Grace and Lily Haag kept the ball out of the net. I was proud of them for overlapping all the way up. Congrats to both teams on a hard-fought battle.”
The Titans held a 17-1 advantage in shots.
West coach Dave DeAngelis tipped his hat to Toner and the Titans.
“CB South is so well coached – they are fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game,” the Bucks’ coach said. “Credit to Pat, her staff, and team for being able to execute throughout the entire match.
“We struggled with our decision making and were unable to protect the ball (unforced errors). We were able to generate some offensive pressure but unfortunately we were unable to finish and score.”
Although the score might suggest otherwise, Toner said Monday’s game was a battle.
“Our league is absolutely ridiculous,” the Titans’ coach said. “There is not one easy game. I didn’t consider tonight an easy game. CB West fought the entire time. I think we outplayed them, but they didn’t give up. It was a tough battle.”
South goalkeeper Emma Kraft earned her first varsity win and shutout. Grace Haag was credited with a defensive save for the Titans.
Central Bucks South (1-1 SOL) will host Central Bucks East on Saturday at 10 a.m., and Central Bucks West (0-2) will be on the road at Pennridge on Saturday (12 noon).
