SOL American
Springfield Twp 14, New Hope-Solebury 7
The Spartans turned right around after a one-goal win against Council Rock South to stay unbeaten in the SOL American ahead of Friday’s clash with an Upper Dublin side also unbeaten in conference play.
Springfield Twp all but put the game away with a dominant first half, taking a 14-2 lead to the break. That allowed the Spartans’ starters to exchange roles with the reserves and swing players, spending the second half cheering on their teammates as they got an extended chance to play.
“New Hope has a couple really skilled players and I think they played really well today. We were able to practice different plays on attack and defense, which was really helpful,” Spartans coach Marissa Conover said. “I was happy with how we played as a team. Stella Nelson really showed up on attack.”
Nelson, a senior who doesn’t normally gain much recognition but has played her role well all season, scored a goal to reward her efforts.
Fiona Rizzo had another strong outing, scoring three goals and assisting on three others. Maddie McDevitt scored four times and assisted a goal and Emma Yoder posted a hat trick and an assist. That trio, along with Shannon Meder – who also added a goal – did their damage in the first half.
“Another great show for Fiona Rizzo and a great show from Maddie McDevitt,” Conover said. “We are blessed to have so much talent this year. It was a fun game and I give them props.”
Springfield Twp (13-0, 8-0 SOL) will host Upper Dublin at 3:30 Friday, and New Hope-Solebury (2-9, 2-7) will host Souderton in a non-league game on Saturday 5 p.m.

Upper Moreland 7, Abington 5
The Golden Bears – who trailed 2-1 at halftime – honored their seniors with a win over the Ghosts, outscoring their visitors 6-3 after the intermission.
“Tonight, we celebrate a win and all nine of our seniors,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “This game was definitely a defensive battle. The defense at both ends played their hearts out. Our defense was led by senior Kellen Distel, senior Eliza Feil, Cambrie Richmond, Avary Adamski, and senior Charlotte James. They played with heart and communication every second of this game.
“Our midfield helped to keep control of the pace and keep things going in our direction, Annalise Messina, senior Allison LaRocco, and Willow Taylor played hard the whole game. At attack, seniors Reagan Cummins, Alexa Marczak, Jenna Piatieri, and Belle Leiter helped led the way to a win along with Olivia Meakim, Maggie Morrow, and Molly Meakim.
“Our ninth senior, Sarah Dermovesesian, is our manager and an integral part to our success – it is always special when you find a hardworking manager willing to help the team in any way. The key at the end of the game to this win was Addi Hurley with some absolute amazing saves in the last four minutes of the game to help us keep our lead.”
Hurley finished with 10 saves in goal in a contest that saw the two teams combine for just three goals in the first half.
“The first half was one of the lowest scoring first halves we have ever seen,” Frantz said. “We were able to score in the first 11 seconds in the game. Then Abington held us scoreless for the rest of the first half while scoring their first goal at 16:22 and then the second goal with 1 minute and 50 seconds left.
“Abington scored first in the second half to take a 3-1 lead. We battled back, and with 14:00 minutes left in the second half, we had a lead of 5-3. Abington scored two more goals to tie the game and we finished with two goals between minute 4-5 to take the final lead of 7-5.”
Annalise Messina led the Bears with three goals and two assists. Isabel Leiter added two goals while Olivia Meakim and Reagan Cummins each had one goal. Maggie Morrow contributed an assist.

Twenty-four hours after a one-goal loss in a battle with undefeated Springfield Twp, the Golden Hawks had to battle past their archrival in an
annual rivalry clash.
“The team rallied after our junior captain and leading scorer went down in the first half with a knee injury,” CRS coach Madison Hurwitz said. “Senior captains Amy Loving, Grace Franchini and Karissa Smedley, along with senior Amanda Green stepped up huge and played poised.”
Zoe Brossman’s five points led the way, the midfielder netting a hat trick with two assists while Lizzie Hearn also tallied three goals for the Hawks. Loving had two goals and an assist, Kate Deal scored twice, and Kelly Longmore posted a goal and an assist.
CR South also got solo goals from Ella Mayberry and Amanda Green. The midfield of Brossman, Loving, Green, Hearn and Longmore turned in a good effort on both sides of the ball.
As productive as the offense was, Hurwitz cited the play at the other end of the field as a difference maker.
“The defense was incredible from Karissa Smedley, Grace Franchini, Teagan Shay and Emerson Wackowski,” Hurwitz said. “Kaya Mallon was outstanding for us in goal, making saves, interceptions and controlled clears.”
Council Rock South (11-3, 6-2 SOL) will host Lower Merion in a non-league game Friday, and Council Rock North (8-7, 4-4) will host Villa Joseph Marie in a non-league game Friday.
North Penn 19, Central Bucks South 5
Kayla Stressman had quite a week and the North Penn senior added a milestone to it on Wednesday.
Stressman, a Bloomsburg recruit, scored three goals including the 100th of her career. It’s an impressive feat made even more so when noting she didn’t get a chance to play as a freshman due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Kaya Stressman has been a rock for us this season – on the draw, scoring. I’m so excited that she hit her hundredth goal because I know coming into the season she felt like she was so far removed that she wasn’t going to get there,” Knights coach Heather Mellow said. “It was disappointing not having a freshman season, so to be able to hit that milestone was pretty exciting for her. We’re happy for her, the whole team was very excited for her.
“We celebrated after the game, which was really nice.”
North Penn had plenty of reason to celebrate on Wednesday and plenty to honor. It was the team’s annual Lax for Leukemia game, the team donning orange pregame shirts in honor of former Knight Alyssa Oxenford who passed away after her battle with leukemia in 2015,
The Knights won their sixth in a row, battling the Titans goal-for-goal early until opening up some room with a 7-4 halftime lead.
“It was a good all-around game for us. We started off a little frantic,” Mellow said. “I think the excitement of the game and the importance of the game got them so amped up, and they were not playing their normal lacrosse. Once we settled down and figured out how to score on (CB South goalie) Gabby (Mayo), we did a good job.”
Aside from her hat trick and milestone goal, Stressman added four helpers and again dominated on draw controls, recording 13 wins on the possession restarts. Lauren Blanch was also all over, posting four goals, two assists and six ground balls and Katie Harkins tallied four goals and an assist.
Grace McGeehan also bagged a hat trick and Stephanie Gibson scored twice for a balanced Knights offense.
“The whole team had a great game. Lauren Blanch had another outstanding performance for us, Katie Harkins as well, and a lot of different people put more goals in,” Mellow said. “Quinn and Morgan Rodoff are twins, and they had a couple of connections to each other. They played great. Morgan, who’s normally a defender for me, played attack because she’s a good stick handler, and I wanted to make sure that we kept possession of the ball when we needed it.”
Morgan Rodoff had two goals while her twin sister Quinn had a goal and two assists.
Grace Macnamara had four ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead a North Penn defense that held the Titans in check after the back and forth start.
“Keira Holt had five saves. She didn’t have a lot of activity in the second half, but she still had a good game,” Mellow said of her senior goalie.
North Penn (9-4, 7-1 SOL) will be on the road at Souderton Monday, and Central Bucks South (4-10, 3-5) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham Friday.

Pennridge 11, Central Bucks East 8
The Rams honored their nine seniors, then picked up a hard-earned win over a resilient Patriots squad.
Senior Grace Roscia led the way for Pennridge, scoring four times and adding an assist with the midfielder also posting five draw controls and three ground balls. Ava Fantaskey, Kendall Posey and Alexa Bailey each scored two goals for the Rams, with Fantaskey adding two assists.
Junior Kate Unzicker had a goal, two assists, five ground balls and three caused turnovers for Pennridge.
“Our nine seniors truly have so much heart and dedication to the Pennridge program,” Rams coach Karen Feher said. “Their bright and shining personalities will take them far and their impact will be left on the program.”
Also for the Rams, Alexa Bailey added two goals and an assist. Cayla Wurz, Taylor Burkett and Madigan Posey each had one assist. Lauren Moylan contributed three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Pennridge needed every goal and every stop against a CB East team that got two goals apiece from Ava Delfini, Natalie Berndt, Paige Dougherty and Paige Keller. Sammy Kishel and Megan Fahey each chipped in an assist. Keller was also strong in the circle, winning seven draw controls while Dougherty had five ground balls. Berndt added three draw controls.
“My attack is where I have seen the most growth, they have learned to take smart strategic goals, and use the clock as an advantage, not a stressor,” East coach Maggie
Stella said. “Paige and Paige were on fire tonight, transitioning the ball, utilizing the fast break and catching balls in high pressure situations. Sammy Kishel is also a fierce leader on attack, she controls the ball so well and can read high pressure situations.
“Keller is a stud on the draw, she adjusted to Pennridge so well.”
The Patriots also had a newcomer in the lineup on Wednesday with Sydney Tannenbaum getting the start in goal and making five stops.
“She did awesome for us. She was communicating and working well with our defense,” Stella said. “Sierra, Savannah, Avery, and Emma were awesome! All four of them were commanding the defense and clearing the ball successfully.
“This was a tight game, because Pennridge is phenomenal this year, so it was fun to see that my girls were able to compete.”
Pennridge (11-4, 7-2 SOL) will host Pleasant Valley High School in a non-league game Friday, and Central Bucks East (7-8, 3-5) will host Council Rock South on Monday.
