In a contest that featured a whole lot more defense than offense, it was the Falcons opening up a 4-0 halftime lead and then holding off a Knights’ comeback attempt in the second half.
The win marked a special milestone – it was the 100th for coach Dean Curtis, who was honored after the game.
Included in the postgame celebration was the presentation of a sign with his coaching philosophy.
“The essence of being a great teammate goes far beyond the field,” his wife Traci Curtis, the field hockey coach at Pennsbury, wrote on her Instagram. “So proud of my favorite teammate in life – the ‘other’ Coach Curtis – who reached his 100th win. We were brought together through school (GO BUCKS) and sport (lacrosse & field hockey) in college, and the lessons we learned as athletes have translated into our world each and every day. Be a great teammate first and the rest will come. It’s so much more than the sport – it always has been and always will be.”
Bradley Hill’s strong showing at the X set the tone for Pennsbury’s win. Hill won 9 of 10 faceoffs and also had eight ground balls and one assist.
Logan Thorne’s three-point game with two goals and one assist led the Falcons. Eric Rinehimer added two goals, Trent Becker had one goal and John Curtis added an assist.
Jaden Beach contributed nine saves in goal for the Falcons.
For the Knights, who outscored the Falcons 3-1 in the second half, Luigi Cardone had two goals and Emerson Morelli had one. Connor Howard was credited with 10 saves in goal for the Knights.
Pennsbury (7-5, 4-2 SOL) will host Central Bucks West on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the stadium. North Penn (3-8, 1-7) will host Council Rock South on Thursday.
