Central Bucks West 13, Pennridge 8
Matt Jacobsen does a little bit of a lot of things for CB West.
The senior midfielder, committed to Richmond, is one of the best scorers in Bucks history. He also competes defensively, stays on the field for the ride and in the clear and on top of all that, he takes the bulk of his team’s faceoffs.
Tuesday night, Jacobsen put his imprint all over the Bucks’ big win that handed the Rams’ their first loss in SOL play. The senior had a hat trick and two assists, picking up his 200th career point along the way.
“It’s everything and I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else other than the brothers beside me,” Jacobsen said. “Every single day with them is so fun, it means so much to me.”
Before Jacobsen, who also won 15-of-20 faceoffs on the X, could get to that big number, the Bucks had to weather a hot start by the Rams. Pennridge scored four times in seven minutes to open the night, then just four more times over the next 41.
Senior defenseman Eddie Rafalowski, a first team All-SOL performer last year, helped lead a robust effort on the back end.
“Honestly, they had the better of us in the first quarter,” Rafalowski said. “They put four in right away. I think all it took was for us to settle down a little bit, we had the matchups right, our coaches did a great job with the scout, we just needed to settle in.”
Matthew Seiler scored his 100th career goal for Pennridge, which had a 4-2 lead with 5:08 left in the first. Ryan Carickhoff added a hat trick for the Rams, who saw a four-game win streak snapped.
Freshman Michael Rafalowski, Eddie’s younger brother, led West with four goals and three assists. Colton Albrecht also had a hat trick, Aidan Kimberly scored twice and assisted on two goals and Alex Greenspan had a goal and two helpers.
“We started slowing it down on offense, I feel like we did that a ton,” Jacobsen said. “We could tell it was getting them frustrated. When they have the ball on their offensive side, they have a lot of good players and they’re pretty dangerous, so it was really important keeping it on our side, spreading it out and moving it around.”
Jacobsen netted his first goal with 4:04 left in the first quarter, starting a string of seven consecutive goals for the Bucks. Michael Rafalowski netted the go-ahead marker early in the second quarter, the run ending with a 9-4 West lead.
Eddie Rafalowski felt the second quarter was the Bucks’ best, despite the defense posting a shutout in the fourth, because it let them take control. Kanen Patel made seven saves in goal with Jimmy Donnelly, Garin Mangeot, Gavin Todd and Kevin Mallon contributing solid defense in front of him.
“We’ve got a lot of depth, our goalie’s been playing great this year,” Rafalowski said. “We have guys coming in off our bench that could be starting for any other team in the conference. I think we’re super talented and we can match up with anyone.”
