MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) netted 17 points to go with four rebounds in Moravian’s 91-69 win over Penn State-Lehigh Valley in the opening round of the 37th Roosevelt’s 21st Greyhound Classic on Friday. In Saturday’s 90-74 loss to Cabrini in the title game, Murray had nine points and three rebounds.
Senior Ryan Charity (Pennsbury) scored 16 points in Cabrini’s 90-74 win over Moravian in the title game of the 37th Roosevelt’s Greyhound Classic at Moravian College on Saturday. In Friday’s 89-82 opening round win over Montclair State, Charity scored 15 points off the bench.
Jordan Reed (Wissahickon) contributed 11 points in Tennessee State’s 92-83 road defeat at the hands of Murray State on Saturday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener. The redshirt senior delivered back-to-back big plays to knot the score 83-83 in the final minutes. Reed came up with an offensive board and putback with 1:20 left before a steal and breakaway dunk with 56.9 seconds remaining evened the score. In Tuesday’s 81-50 win over Covenant, Reed had eight points. In a 95-85 loss to No. 5/4 Duke that was televised nationally on ESPN2, Reed had nine points.
Sophomore Evan Slone (Souderton) scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting in Arcadia University’s 88-77 win over Dickinson at the CUA-Holiday Inn College Park Classic on Friday at Catholic University. In Thursday’s 85-77 opening round loss to Catholic, Slone scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting while pulling down a team high six rebounds.
Freshman Tracy Simsick (Souderton) scored eight points in DeSales University’s 83-48 win over St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) on Thursday to advance into the championship game of the Al Senavitis Memorial Holiday Tournament.
Josh McWilliams (Council Rock North) scored 15 points and handed out four assists in McDaniel’s 75-67 loss to City College of New York on Friday. In McDaniel’s 52-46 loss to Marymount, McWilliams led the Green Terror with 12 points.
Junior Zach Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 13 points in Ursinus College’s 70-48 rout of Edgewood in its second and final appearance at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Friday. Sophomore Zack Muredda (Pennridge) keyed a 7-0 run with a three-pointer and a jumper, and sophomore Matt Margolis (Council Rock North) buried a trey in the second half. In Wednesday’s, 78-67 loss to Oneonta State, Muredda had nine points while Quattro had eight. In Ursinus College’s 71-69 non-conference setback at the hands of Rosemont, Quattro contributed 12 points and nine rebounds.
Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) pulled down 10 boards and Drew Dietterich (Pennridge) blocked three shots, a personal best, in Gwynedd Mercy’s 82-62 win over Goucher at the HoopMIA Holiday Classic.
Amir Hinton (Abington) dropped a game-high 19 points in Lock Haven’s 71-56 win over Mercyhurst on Friday.
Anthony Lee (Abington) scored a season high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 from three-point range in 13th-ranked Kutztown’s 97-82 loss to 18th-ranked Shippensburg on Friday. In Kutztown’s 85-79 win over Bowie State, Lee scored 12 points.
Matt Penecale (Abington) contributed eight points and six assists in West Chester’s 88-73 loss to Bloomsburg on Friday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) helped lead Emory to a 77-45 win over Agnes Scott, coming off the bench to record the first double-double of her collegiate career with 13 points (tying a season high) and a personal best 10 rebounds. Chernow ended the game converting five-of-eight field goal opportunities, including three three-point field goals in four attempts, en route to her second double-figure scoring performance of the campaign. Chernow has seen action as a reserve in the team’s first eight contests of the season and is averaging 18.5 minutes, 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per outing. Her 3.8 assists per game is second on the squad.
University of the Sciences freshman Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) was named CACC Rookie of the
Week for the week ending Dec. 20. It is the second consecutive week she received the award. Vitelli shot 71 percent from three-point range (5-of-7) and dropped in 20 points to help lead USciences to an 84-73 win over Chestnut Hill. She buried all five free throw attempts and also pulled down four rebounds while also contributing one assist and one steal in only 18 minutes of action. It was her third straight 20-point game.
Vitelli came down with a team high five rebounds while also adding two assists, a steal and a block in the University of the Sciences 56-36 win over the University of the District of Columbia on Friday. In Wednesday’s 60-57 win over Millersville, Vitelli provided 10 points off the bench, converting 7-of-7 from the foul line while also collecting three steals.
Freshman Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed 12 points and eight rebounds in Washington College’s 74-61 win over Immaculata.
Senior Lauren Crisler (North Penn) finished with 12 points and six rebounds in American University’s 60-45 win over Loyola Maryland on Friday.
Junior Kaitlin Kelly (Pennsbury) scored 11 points off the bench in DeSales University’s 75-56 win over TCNJ in the opening round of the Juniata College Tournament on Thursday.
Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) had 16 points and 17 rebounds for her third double-double of the season in Albright’s 72-68 win over Rowan in Puerto Rico on Wednesday. In Albright’s 88-67 loss to DeSales, Lofton had 15 points and seven rebounds.
Aigner Bookard (Cheltenham) scored 13 points in Cairn University’s 64-53 victory over Medgar Evers on Friday.
Freshman Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) scored 20 points in Ursinus College’s 71-64 loss to Susquehanna at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach on Thursday. Konstanzer finished 8-of-17 from the floor and made all four of her foul shots in her sixth straight double-digit scoring effort. She added six rebounds, a pair of steals and an assist. In Wednesday’s 54-51 win over Maine Maritime, Konstanzer led the Bears with a 14-point performance. She also had six rebounds.
Freshman Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored in double figures for the sixth time in the last seven games in Philadelphia University’s 67-44 loss to Shippensburg on Wednesday, scoring a team high 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting. In the Rams’ 79-69 non-conference loss to Kutztown, Williams poured in a career high 25 points. The PW graduate played all 40 minutes for the second time in her career and shot 9-of-19 from the field and 6-of-8 at the free throw line. She added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) scored 10 points – eight in the second half – to go along with four assists and two rebounds in Shippensburg’s 70-60 win over Kutztown on Friday. In Wednesday’s 67-44 win over Philadelphia University, Knauer attempted just three shots on the night but led all players with 13 rebounds. She finished with four points, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
Freshman Devan Rimmer (Perkasie) continued her torrid start as a collegian by scoring a career-high 24 points in Widener’s 85-83 loss to Neumann on Friday. She also contributed five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Junior Allison Gallagher (Souderton) finished with 12 points and two steals. In Widener’s 67-50 loss to St. Norbert at the St. Pete’s Classic, Rimmer registered seven points, five boards and four steals.
Junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) scored 13 points in Chestnut Hill’s 84-73 loss to the University of the Sciences, connecting on 3-of-4 three-pointers and two-of-three from the free throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds, handed out three assists and came up with a steal.
Sophomore Taylor Thames (North Penn) scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and contributed two rebounds, two assists and two steals in Kutztown’s 93-88 overtime victory over Wilmington on Wednesday. In Kutztown’s 79-69 victory at Philadelphia University, Thames scored six points, connecting on 3-of-5 shots from the field. She also tied her season high of four assists for the second straight game. Playing in just her second game back since missing eight games due to injury, freshman Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) had a season high 11 points (5-of-8 field goals), two rebounds and two blocked shots.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
At the midway point of the 2016-17 season, Marist junior Megan Berardelli (Wissahickon) has the top diving scores in the MAAC so far this season. The reining MAAC Most Outstanding Diver, Berardelli scored 277.05 points at one meter and 293.10 at three meters when Marist defeated Rider. Both are the top scores in the MAAC.
WRESTLING
Bloomsburg’s Bruce Graeber (Neshaminy) went 4-2 and reached the consolation semifinal round at the historic 84th annual Wilkes Open. Bloomsburg finished fourth as a team.
