MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Amir Hinton (Abington) became the fastest player in Lock Haven history to reach the 1,000-
point mark, but his 25-point effort was not enough to pull off the upset of No. 17 West Chester, which earned an 86-77 win on Saturday. Coming into the game, Hinton needed 24 points to hit the 1,000-point mark and was sitting on 23 before hitting a jumper with just 21 seconds left. The two points moved him to 25 on the night and 1,0001 for his remarkable two-season career. Hinton played in just his 42nd career game, and he is believed to be the fastest in PSAC history to reach the 1,000-point mark. He’s the 18th men’s basketball player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark. In Wednesday’s 92-75 loss to Shippensburg, Hinton scored 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. In Monday’s 97-94 overtime loss to California (Pa.), Hinton scored a school-record 47 points. The Abington graduate was 15-of-20 from the floor and added 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. In Lock Haven’s 89-82 win over East Stroudsburg, Hinton posted a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. In Lock Haven’s 88-80 win at Mansfield, Hinton scored 21 points and also had eight rebounds and three steals.
Damian Washington (Upper Moreland) had 13 points and five rebounds off the bench in Delaware Valley University’s 84-75 loss to defending MAC champion Misericordia on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 78-69 loss to Wilkes University, Washington came off the bench to contribute 13 points and seven rebounds. In last Saturday’s 78-56 loss to DeSales, Washington had eight points and four rebounds. In Del Val’s 92-73 loss to King’s College, Joe Russell (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
Josh McWilliams (Council Rock North) paced four players in double figures with 13 points in McDaniel’s 59-57 loss to Haverford on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 80-49 loss to Swarthmore, McWilliams led the Green Terror with nine points, five assists and four rebounds.
Junior Evan Slone (Souderton) had seven rebounds in Arcadia’s 79-75 loss to No. 12 Lycoming on Saturday. In Arcadia’s 72-68 loss to Alvernia, Slone had 16 points and six rebounds.
Sophomore Tracy Simsick (Souderton) scored 12 points in DeSales University’s 83-65 win over FDU-Florham. Freshman Mike Bealer (Souderton) added nine points. In Wednesday’s 88-78 win over Manhattanville College, Simsick led the team with 16 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Bealer made four 3-pointers off the bench for 12 points. In last Saturday’s 78-56 win over Delaware Valley, Simsick finished with 15 points. In the Bulldogs’ 78-67 loss to Eastern, Simsick had 11 points.
Junior guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) netted a pair of free throws with five seconds left in overtime in Moravian College’s 103-101 victory over The Catholic University on Saturday. The PW graduate led four players in double figures with 28 points, including eight 3-pointers, one shy of the individual school record. Moravian connected on a school record 22 treys in the game, going 22-of-37 beyond the 3-point arc. Murray also had four assists, three rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. In Wednesday’s 87-80 loss to Drew University, Murray tossed in a team-high 19 points, including 17 in the second half. In last Saturday’s 106-74 win over Susquehanna, Murray had 16 points.
Sophomore Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) had eight points in Ithaca’s 85-72 loss to Clarkson University on Saturday. In Friday’s 82-67 win over St. Lawrence, Thompson highlighted the victory with 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including 7-of-14 from 3-point range. In Ithaca’s 83-75 win over Union College, Thompson scored a team-best 24 points – 15 in the first half on 4-of-7 shooting from the field and 5-of-5 at the free throw line.
John Ryan (William Tennent) contributed 11 points and five rebounds and Kevin Raymond (Central Bucks South) added seven points and five assists in Penn State Abington’s 101-77 win over Bryn Athyn on Wednesday.
Junior Mekhi Bryant (Pennsbury) had a team-high 18 points, connecting on 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in Holy Family’s 78-71 loss to Dominican on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 80-65 loss to Goldey-Beacom College, Bryant had 12 points. In Holy Family’s 77-74 loss to Georgian Court, Bryant finished the game with 19 points to go along with three assists and two steals.
Senior Zach Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) was lights out in the first half of Ursinus College’s 87-75 win over Dickinson on Thursday, connecting on all five of his attempts, including a pair from beyond the arc, for a total of 13 points. He finished with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting. In Tuesday’s 86-74 win over Washington College, Quattro led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He hit on three 3-pointers and grabbed six rebounds. In the Bears’ 77-59 win over Rosemont, Quattro had a game-high 20 points. Junior Zack Muredda (Pennridge) contributed 12 points and connected on 5-of-6 shots.
Kutztown redshirt junior Anthony Lee (Abington) was named PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week for
the week ending Jan. 7. Lee averaged 31 points per game in KU’s last three games. The redshirt junior scored a career-high 34 points in back-to-back games at West Chester and Bloomsburg and has played all 40 minutes the last two games. He finished the week shooting 57.1 percent from the field, 61.9 percent from 3-point range with 13 makes, and he connected on 24-of-26 free throws. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists. At West Chester, he made 12-of-13 free throws and shot 9-of-13 from the field. In a win over Bloomsburg, he made five 3-pointers and all five free throws with seven rebounds and six assists. At Edinboro, he shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range, made 7-of-8 free throws and scored 25 points. Lee is second in the PSAC in scoring at 23.6 ppg, and he leads the Golden Bears in steals (28) and minutes per game (35.2). He is shooting 55.7 percent from 3-point range and 58.4 percent from the field, which ranks first and third in the conference respectively. He also is second in the league in free throw percentage (92.6).
Lee recorded his second double-double of the season in Kutztown’s 87-77 victory over Millersville on Saturday, scoring a team-high 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Lee also shot 8-for-8 from the free throw line and is now shooting 93.5 percent from the charity stripe, second in the conference. Lee also played all 40 minutes, the third time in the last four games he never left the court. Sophomore Max Wagner (Pennridge) added 11 points and nine rebounds. In KU’s 92-90 win over Mansfield Wednesday, Lee had 15 points and five rebounds. He entered the game shooting 55.7 percent from beyond the arc and went 3-for-6. Wagner contributed five points, two rebounds and one block. In KU’s 91-89 win at Edinboro, Lee scored 25 points, and Wagner finished with 11 points. In Kutztown’s 97-92 win over Bloomsburg, Lee scored 34 points while Wagner finished one point shy of his career high, recording 14 points and pulling down five rebounds. He also had two blocks and two steals.
Matt Penecale (Abington) contributed 14 points and a team-high five assists in No. 17 West Chester’s 99-51 win over Cheyney on Wednesday. In Monday’s 98-90 loss to Bloomsburg, Penecale chipped in a team-best six assists to go along with 15 points. In West Chester’s 72-63 win over Mansfield, Penecale scored 12 points. In The Golden Rams’ 75-73 win over Millersville, Penecale saved his one bucket of the night for when it mattered most, scoring the game-winning shot with five seconds remaining. Penecale finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Aigner Bookard (Cheltenham) contributed 12 points, five rebounds and five assists in Cairn University’s 70-58 loss to Immaculata on Wednesday. In Cairn’s 76-64 win over Notre Dame (Md.), Bookard finished with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Freshman Josie Barrett (Upper Dublin) scored a season-high nine points while going 3-for-4 from 3-point range while Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) scored eight points in the University of Scranton’s 66-41 victory over Goucher College on Saturday. In Scranton’s 78-63 win over Elizabethtown, Mason contributed 10 points, seven assists and four rebounds.
Freshman Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) scored 10 points in Cabrini’s 68-44 win over Cedar Crest College on Saturday. It was the Blue and White’s 10th consecutive victory. In Cabrini’s 74-53 win over Rosemont Tuesday, Edwards tallied a game-high 17 points as she went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in just 19 minutes of action.
Senior Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line in Albright’s upset of #17/#19 Messiah on Saturday. She also added eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks in the win. In Wednesday’s 74-53 win over Lycoming, Lofton registered nine points, seven rebounds, five steals, five assists and three blocks. In last Saturday’s 74-59 win over Lebanon Valley, Lofton posted 18 points for the third straight game on 7-of-10 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds, five steals, four blocks and three assists. In Albright’s 70-51 win over Hood, Lofton scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. She also added seven rebounds (six offensive), three assists and four steals.
Sophomore Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) scored 13 points in Arcadia’s 72-60 loss to Arcadia on Wednesday. The CB South grad scored in double figures in eight straight games and 11-of-14 on the season. In Arcadia’s 73-58 win over Hood, Dunn scored a game-high 23 points. In Arcadia’s 63-19 win over Alvernia, Dunn had 10 points.
Senior Kaitlin Kelly (Pennsbury) contributed 13 points and eight rebounds in DeSales University’s 82-74 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday.
Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 15 points in Washington College’s 70-62 loss to Dickinson in a game at the Palestra in Philadelphia on Sunday. In Thursday’s 61-57 loss to Franklin & Marshall, Quattro had 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds. In Washington’s 82-58 loss to #15 Muhlenberg, Quattro had eight rebounds, tying for game-high honors.
Senior Michael Harris (Abington) had 12 points in American University’s 71-58 win over Loyola Maryland on Thursday. In American’s 56-41 win over Navy, Harris led the team with 13 points while pulling down six rebounds. In AU’s 77-55 win over Colgate, Harris had 10 points.
Sophomore Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) had 13 points and was 3-of-6 from beyond the arc in the University of the Sciences 60-44 win over Dominican College on Saturday. She tied her career high with eight rebounds. Jess Huber (North Penn) set a new season best with four rebounds while her six points was her second most this season. In last Saturday’s 72-67 overtime win over No. 16 Jefferson University, Vitelli made history when she connected on 3-of-5 three-point attempts for nine points, becoming just the 12th Devil to surpass 100 career 3-pointer mark.
Junior Nicole Munger (Central Bucks South) had 16 points and seven rebounds in No. 23 Michigan’s 84-79 win over Indiana on Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 78-71 overtime loss to No. 10 Ohio State, Munger had eight points, and in Michigan’s 80-57 win over Wisconsin, Munger scored 10 points.
Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) had nine points and three assists in Emory’s 64-47 win over Case Western Reserve on Sunday. In Thursday’s 68-62 win over Carnegie Melon, Chernow had six points, three steals, and three rebounds.
Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Council Rock South) scored 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field in Holy Family’s 60-55 win over Felician University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 56-53 victory at Dominican College, Hofstaedter set a season-high with nine assists while totaling nine points. In Holy Family’s 92-68 win over Georgian Court, Hofstaedter filled the stat sheet with 15 points, six rebounds and a game-high eight assists.
Sophomore Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) led all scorers with 25 points in Ursinus College’s 64-59 loss to Johns Hopkins on Sunday. In Thursday’s 58-45 win over Dickinson, Konstanzer scored nine points and pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds. In Tuesday’s 67-36 win over Washington College, Konstanzer, who made her first eight shots, scored 24 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double. She also had two assists and two steals. In last Saturday’s 68-39 loss to Johns Hopkins, Konstanzer paired 14 points with nine rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 12 points, hitting on 4-of-7 from the floor, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, and also dished out seven assists in Jefferson University’s 76-66 win over Post on Saturday. In Jefferson’s 84-70 win over Nyack, redshirt junior Erin Maher (North Penn) scored 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal. In last Saturday’s 72-67 overtime loss to the University of the Sciences, Williams scored 14 points and also had three assists and three steals.
Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) and Allison Gallagher (Souderton) both scored 12 points in Widener University’s 85-32 win over Hood on Saturday. Emma Gardy (Central Bucks South) added 10 points. In Wednesday’s 75-45 win over Alvernia, Gallagher recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Rimmer led all players with 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. In last Saturday’s 59-45 loss to #18/20 Messiah, Rimmer recorded her second career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Gallagher added nine points. In Widener’s 74-38 win over Penn State Brandywine, Gallagher netted 13 points in 16 minutes of action to lead all scorers. She also had four rebounds and one steal. Gardy scored nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Rimmer had eight points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) scored 24 points and also had three rebounds, two assists and five steals in Chestnut Hill’s 88-61 win over Nyack on Saturday. She connected on six 3-pointers and was 6-for-9 (.667) from beyond the arc. In Wednesday’s 84-74 win over Post, Tumasz scored 17 points and also had four rebounds and an assist. In Chestnut Hill’s 98-85 win over Wilmington University, Tumasz recorded 16 points and nine assists.
Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) scored 10 points in Kutztown’s 85-58 loss to Millersville on Saturday. In
Wednesday’s 79-60 win over Mansfield, Taylor Thames (North Penn) scored 15 second-half points. Wright contributed five points and four rebounds. In last Saturday’s 86-65 road loss to No. 15 Edinboro, Thames scored 13 points, going 6-of-11 from the field. In KU’s 53-45 win over Bloomsburg, Thames had a team-high four assists to go along with eight points.
Thames was named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization Scholar-Athlete Team. The North Penn graduate is a sports management major and has a 3.99 GPA. She has earned a spot on the Dean’s List five times. Thames has transitioned from a backup role to the starting point guard and has started the last eight games. She is averaging career highs in minutes played (24.4) and points per game (8.1) this season. Her 3.3 assists per game is 10th in the PSAC.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Senior Tim Resch (Springfield Township) was part of the winning 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:43.62 in Albright’s 176.5-24.5 win over Hood last Saturday.
Senior Jacob Schellinger (North Penn) anchored the 200-medley relay and claimed first place in the 100-yard butterfly with 54.81 in Arcadia’s dual meet wins over Messiah (134-71) and King’s (133-72) on Friday night.
Junior Travis Venables (Pennsbury) finished first in the 50 free with a time of 22.26 in Ursinus College’s 115-89 win over Albright on Saturday. In Friday’s 126-73 win over Cabrini, Venables and sophomore Maxwell Coulter (Pennridge) were part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:42.31). Venables also was part of the winning 200 free relay. Sophomore Daniel Powell (Central Bucks East) finished first in the 1650 free with a time of 17:05.47.
Sophomore Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) claimed victory in a pair of events in Shippensburg’s 104-99 loss to Edinboro on Friday. Beyer won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.45 and the 500 free with a time of 4:59.21. In Thursday’s 148-69 loss to Gannon, Beyer claimed first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.17 and first in the 500 free with a time of 4:47.68. Both swims met the PSAC qualifying standards.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Rachel Samson (Council Rock North) finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.62 in Arcadia’s double dual sweep of Messiah (109-96) and King’s (126-79) on Friday night. She also finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.55.
Eve Kosten (North Penn) tied for third in the 150 freestyle with a time of 1:23.79 in the University of Buffalo’s 167-35 win over Niagara on Saturday. In Friday’s 203-97 road win over St. Bonaventure, Kosten took home first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.60 seconds.
Sophomore Margrethe Leis (Springfield Township) finished second in the 500 and was part of the second place 400 free relay in Ursinus College’s 135-70 win over Albright on Saturday. Katelyn Moore (Hatboro-Horsham) was second in the 400 IM with a time of 5:01.98, and Rebecca Warren (Council Rock North) finished third with a time of 5:04.87. In Friday’s 126-73 win over Cabrini, Leis was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:53.35. Warren was second in the 50 free (26.64), and Moore was third in the 1650 free.
Penn State senior Tommie Dillione (Council Rock North) earned a runner-up finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.82 in Saturday’s double dual meet against North Carolina and Navy. She also was part of the 400 free relay that posted the second fastest time (3:28.32).
Senior Bridget Perdoch (Pennsbury) was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:55.81 in Kutztown’s 131-90 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. Alison McLaughlin (North Penn) was part of the winning 200 free relay. Perdoch also finished first in the 100 breast with a PSAC qualifying time of 1:11.51 and was third in the 200 IM (2:29.48). McLaughlin was second in both the 50 free (26.53) and 100 free (58.58). In the 2018 Westminster Snowbird Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., last weekend, Perdoch finished third in the 75 breaststroke.
East Stroudsburg senior Shirley Samson (Council Rock North) was part of fifth place breaststroke relay at last weekend’s Relay Classic hosted by the University of Tampa. She also was part of the IM relay team that finished fifth.
MEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Saint Joseph’s sophomore David Bryant (Upper Dublin) advanced out of the preliminaries of the 60m with a PR of 7.15 at the Angry Birds Challenge at Lehigh University on Saturday. Last Friday, Bryant ran a then collegiate-best 60m time of 7.23 in the preliminaries at the Wagner College Invitational.
Kutztown freshman Tommy Oliver (Bensalem) claimed first place in the heptathlon at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday, claiming first and second in the final two events, the 1000m dash (3:04.99) and the pole vault (8-3.50). Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield Township) competed in the 400m for the first time this season and notched a new PSAC time, winning the event in 51.01. Also in the 400m, Cameron Christopher (Wissahickon) finished fourth (52.93) and Ryan Benner (Pennridge) was sixth (55.72). Teagan Fortna (Central Bucks West) placed fifth in the 800m (2:07.88). Elgin Horton Jr (North Penn) was second in the 500m (1:09.31).
Bloomsburg redshirt senior James Wilson (Central Bucks South) and senior Austin Kline (Central Bucks West) each had a third place finish at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday. Wilson completed the mile in 4:33.75, and Kline posted a time of 2:05.08 in the 800-meter run.
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Kutztown junior Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) finished first in the mile run with a time of 5:28.74 at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday. Sophomore Olivia Morano (Quakertown) came in fifth in the weight throw at 42-08.25, a PSAC qualifying mark. The Quakertown graduate also finished sixth in the shot put (35-02.50).
West Chester’s Cara Jackson (Souderton) finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.64 at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday. Allison King (North Penn) recorded a sixth place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.44. Caroline DiJosia (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished fourth in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.13.
East Strousburg juniors Victoria Collins (Abington) and Victoria Matthews (Abington) both posted new season-best PSAC marks in high jump at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday with identical jumps of 5-1 ¾.
WRESTLING
Dylan Nutall (Harry S Truman) earned a 17-6 major decision at 125 in York College’s 30-12 win over Lycoming on Friday at the Bud Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming.
Philip Torresani (Hatboro-Horsham) needed just 2:01 to pin Brandon Nunez late in the first period of the 125-pound match in Elizabethtown’s 43-10 win over Rhode Island College last Saturday at the North-South Duals. Dan Smith (Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned a first-period pin at 149.
Sophomore Colin Devlin (Upper Dublin) earned a 15-4 major decision at 149 in Gettysburg’s 33-6 win over King’s College on Saturday. In Thursday’s 24-18 loss to SUNY Oneonta, Devin improved to 10-5 this season with a 5-0 win over Tyler Brazinski at 149 pounds. At last Saturday’s Waynesburg University Invitational, Devlin placed fifth at 149. The UD graduate won his first two matches by fall and added a pair of decisions in the wrestleback. Both Devlin and his fifth-place match opponent met their six-match limit in the consolation semifinals.
Jeff Reimel (North Penn) notched a pin at 184 to bring Kutztown to within one of regionally-ranked Mercyhurt, but Mercyhurst held on for a 19-18 win on Saturday. Mikey O’Brien (North Penn) earned an 11-4 decision at 157, defeating the third-ranked wrestler in the region. Owen Watkins had pinned O’Brien in PSACs, but O’Brien responded with a convincing upset win.
