MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Luke Moyer (Souderton) was one shy of tying a career high with six triples en route to a team high 24 points in John Brown University’s 88-77 win over Southwestern Christian (Okla.) on Thursday night. The Souderton graduate finished the game 6-of-14 from behind the arc to power JBU to a 14-of-33 mark from downtown. It was his second straight 20-point outburst.
Sophomore Aaron Burton (Cheltenham) hit an off-balance left-handed runner in the lane with 1.9 seconds remaining to lift DeSales University to a 72-70 win over King’s College in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday. Burton finished with eight points – all in the second half – to lead the charge off the bench. In Saturday’s 84-61 win over FDU-Florham, Burton scored 10 points.
Senior Julian Hyden (Bensalem) scored a game high 25 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc in Gwynedd Mercy’s 90-68 win at Centenary College on Saturday. Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) chipped in with 14 as the Griffins won their fifth game in a row. In Wednesday’s 99-54 win over Summit, Goodman had a game high 17 points while Hyden added 13 points and three steals.
Freshman Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 17 points in Moravian’s 95-88 overtime loss to Goucher College on Wednesday.
Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) contributed 16 points and nine rebounds in Washington College’s 82-72 loss to 17th-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. In Thursday’s 73-64 loss to Muhlenberg, Knox contributed 10 points and a game high nine rebounds. In Tuesday’s 62-52 loss to Gettysburg, Knox collected his 11th career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Wes Brooks (North Penn) had a team high six rebounds to go along with three steals and five points in McDaniel’s 59-54 loss to Swarthmore on Saturday.
Senior Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored 15 points, including six huge free throws down the stretch, in No. 6 Villanova’s 55-50 win over Georgetown in front of a crowd of 15,535 on Saturday. It was the Wildcats’ 21st consecutive BIG EAST win and sixth this season. In Wednesday’s 83-68 win over Marquette, Arcidiacono contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) notched his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and a season high 14 rebounds in Temple’s 67-65 loss to Memphis on Wednesday.
Kutztown University redshirt freshman Anthony Lee (Abington) was honored by the PSAC as the Eastern
Division Freshman of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10. Lee averaged a team-leading 20.0 points per game in the Golden Bears’ 2-0 week. He posted averages of 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks. From the field, he shot 66.7 percent and made 6-of-8 three-pointers. This is Lee’s second Freshman of the Week honor. His first came on Dec. 7 when he averaged 13 points, 5.3 rebounds and posted a double-double in his first career start. Against Clarion, Lee made six of his first seven shots to score 15 first-half points on his way to a season high 22. He shot 9-for-13 from the field and 4-for-5 from downtown. He grabbed seven rebounds and tied for the team lead with three steals. Against Bloomsburg, Lee recorded 18 points, five rebounds and two steals. Lee is third on the team at 11.4 ppg. He came off the bench his first five games but has started the last nine. He is shooting 61.9 percent from the field and is shooting 53.3 percent from downtown.
Lee posted a career high 28 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals in Kutztown’s 87-75 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday. The Abington graduate connected on 8-of-15 shots from the floor and 10-of-12 from the foul line. It was the fifth consecutive game that Lee scored 15 points and his 10th double-digit scoring effort of the season. Ryan Connolly (Souderton) added 14 points. In Wednesday’s 89-82 loss to Philadelphia University, Lee and Josh Johnson (Norristown) both scored 17 points. Johnson collected a double-double, finishing with 11 rebounds – six offensive. Connolly added 13 points with two three-pointers. Kutztown is tied for fourth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region men’s basketball poll.
Julian Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) drained a pair of three-pointers in Lock Haven’s 78-49 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday.
Tim Abruzzo (Pennridge) contributed 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal in Navy's 87-61 win over Lafayette on Saturday. In Wednesday's 60-52 win over Loyola, Abruzzo had five points, five rebounds, three steals, two blocks and one assist.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
American University junior forward Lauren Crisler (North Penn) was selected as the GEICO AU Student
Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10. The North Penn grad registered 18 points and nine rebounds to lead American to a 59-55 win over Lehigh. She shot 50 percent from the field (8-of-16) to finish two points shy of her career high while matching her personal best rebound total. Earlier in the week, Crisler tallied nine points and a team high seven rebounds against league-leading Bucknell. For the week, Crisler averaged a team best 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
Senior Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) scored eight points in St. Joseph’s 64-53 win over Richmond on Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 66-63 win at VCU, Andrews scored six of her game high 20 points in the final minute. Down by four with under a minute to play, Andrews brought the Hawks to within one, 63-62, on a three-point play with 44 seconds left. After a defensive stop, Andrews knocked down a three-pointer with 10 seconds to play to give the Hawks a 65-63 lead.
Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) had a career high 14 rebounds to go along with seven points in No. 20 Albright’s 64-52 win over Arcadia on Saturday. Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) added eight points and six rebounds off the bench. In Albright’s 63-59 win over Lycoming on Wednesday, O’Donnell scored five points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench.
Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) scored 15 points in Alvernia’s 73-58 loss to Stevenson on Saturday. In Wednesday 56-44 win over Arcadia, Roberts notched her sixth double-double of the season – three in MAC Commonwealth matchups, leading the team with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) scored 10 points and had three assists in Cairn University’s 84-47 loss to Rosemont College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 59-35 loss to Marywood, Eppolito scored 10 points.
Freshman Taylor Thames (North Penn) contributed six points off the bench in Kutztown’s 61-51 non-conference win over University of the Sciences on Thursday.
Freshman Regie Robinson (Upper Merion) posted her fifth double-double of the season in Eastern University’s 63-52 loss to King’s College on Saturday, finishing with 16 points and 18 rebounds. In Eastern’s 79-66 loss to FDU-Forham on Wednesday, Robinson scored 14 points.
Sophomore Brianna Cullen (North Penn) netted a career high 14 points in Widener’s 86-63 loss to Messiah on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 77-38 loss to Lebanon Valley, Cullen contributed seven points and five steals off the bench.
Junior guard Rachel Falkowski (Central Bucks South) had a putback at the buzzer, capping a frantic final minute and giving East Stroudsburg a 66-65 win over Kutztown on Saturday. The CB South grad tied her career high with 13 points and her follow of a missed shot in the lane helped lead the Warriors to their seventh win in eight games.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Zach Brech (Upper Dublin) was part of Towson’s 200 free relay that finished fifth with a time of 1:25.60 at the Virginia/Virginia Tech double dual meet on Friday.
Sophomore Jacob Schellinger (North Penn) posted a win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.95 in Arcadia’s 114-90 win over Lycoming on Saturday.
Tim Resch (Springfield) was part of the first place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:39.78 in Albright’s 153-98 win over Misericordia on Friday. He also captured third place in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.87.4) and fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.24). Steve Kolokithias (North Penn) finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.13 and was fourth in the 400 IM (4:51.60).
Freshman Travis Venables (Pennsbury) finished second in the 50 freestyle in Ursinus College’s 117-88 win over Albright on Saturday. Junior Dylan Cooper (William Tennent) was second in the 200 free (1:49.57), and freshman Maxwell Coulter (Pennridge) was part of the third place 400 medley relay. In Friday’s 127-67 win over Cabrini, Cooper won the 500 free with a time of 5:02.62 with Venables placing second. Junior Spencer Collopy (North Penn) was part of the winning 200 medley relay, and Coulter was part of the second place 200 medley relay.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Marist sophomore Megan Berardelli (Wissahickon) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
Diver of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10. Berardelli broke her own school record in the 3-meter dive during Marist’s 169-120 win at Southern Connecticut State on Jan. 9. Her score of 311.63 points at three meters was 11.43 points higher than her previous mark, which she set as a freshman against the Owls last season. On the 1-meter board, she scored 253.63 points to earn second place. She was a part of a 1-2 Red Foxes finish in the event as part of their sixth straight dual meet victory.
For the second consecutive meet, Berardelli was the top finisher in the 3-meter dive with 278.25 points in Marist’s 175-120 win over Boston College on Saturday. She finished second in the 1-meter with 243.22 points.
Junior Marisa Ferrari (Central Bucks East) finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.05 in Ursinus College’s 123-66 win over Albright on Saturday. The win was the 36th straight dual win for Ursinus. In the Bears’ 130-67 triumph over Cabrini on Friday, Ferrari finished third in the 500 free.
Freshman Kate Wojnar (Abington) finished first in the 1000 free with a time of 11:39.03 in Arcadia’s 134-71 win over Lycoming on Saturday. Junior Megan Obarowski (Council Rock South) was the winner in the 400 IM (4:59.95) and the 100 freestyle (59.13). In Thursday’s split with King’s (167-81) and Messiah College (61-200), Wojnar was second in the 1,000 free (11:46.09), and Obarowski was third in the 200 butterfly (2:25.54).
Jan Ikeda (North Penn) was part of the 200 medley relay team that broke the school record with a time of 2:12.40 in Lebanon Valley’s 127-67 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday. Ikeda was three-for-three on the day, winning the 200 free by four seconds and the 100 butterfly by more than 17 seconds.
Eve Kosten (North Penn) finished second in the 200 freestyle in the University of Buffalo’s 139-92 win over Niagara on Friday.
Junior Emily Houser (Upper Dublin) turned in three silver medal performances in Dickinson’s 120-85 win over McDaniel on Saturday. The UD grad was part of the medley relay team and touched the wall second in the 50 freestyle (26.27) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.00).
Rachel Engelhardt (Hatboro-Horsham) finished second in the 200 free in Elizabethtown’s dual meet loss to Washington College on Saturday.
Bridget Perdoch (Pennsbury) won the 100 and 200 breaststroke in Kutztown’s 162-100 dual meet victory over Lock Haven on Saturday. Her mark in the 100 came in 1:12.03, followed by a time of 2:37.21 in the 200, an existing PSAC qualifying mark. Perdoch finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:32.17). Aimee Watkins (Hatboro-Horsham) finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 12:15.78 and third in the 500 free (6:03.37). Caitlyn Falguera (Hatboro-Horsham) finished fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:28.91) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:11.29).
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
University of Pennsylvania freshman Sam Webb (Pennsbury) placed third in the one-mile run at Saturday’s Angry Birds Invitational at Lehigh University, posting a time of 4:19.23.
Pitt junior Chris Spadaro (Council Rock South) set an indoor personal best and tied his overall career best in the triple jump with a distance of 14.35 meters en route to a third place finish at the Kentucky Invite on Saturday.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Ben Keliojor (Norristown) ran a season best and his second fastest 60m with a time of 7.27, good enough for 12th place overall at the Ramapo College Season Opener at the NYC Armory on Friday.
East Stroudsburg junior Sean Hagerty (Pennridge) improved his PSAC qualifier in the long jump (21-11) at the Kutztown Invitational on Friday night. Montel Johnson-Troupe (Pennsbury) finished sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 23.55.
Kutztown redshirt sophomore Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury) finished first in the 55m hurdles with a career best and PSAC qualifying time of 7.20 seconds at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday. Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield) had a career best time of 6.30 seconds in the 55m dash prelims and qualified for PSACs. He finished eighth overall in the finals with a time of 6.50 seconds. Johnson also finished second in the 200m dash with a PSAC qualifying time of 23.09 seconds. Senior Ron Smith (Neshaminy) finished fourth and posted a new PSAC mark of 23.16 seconds in the 200m dash. Senior Chris Varichione (Quakertown) posted PSAC qualifying marks and finished third in both the shot put and weight throw. He recorded a mark of 46-00.00 in the shot put and 52-02.75 in the weight throw.
Elizabethtown senior Sam Brooks (Wissahickon) was the top finisher in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.70 at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday.
Lock Haven junior Lamier Dodson (Bensalem) finished seventh in the weight throw with a PSAC mark of 47-7.25 at Edinboro’s Al Hall Freedom Games on Saturday.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Elizabethtown freshman Kelsey Brady (Council Rock South) broke the school record in the 1000-meter, posting a time of 3:05.24 at the Kutztown Golden Bear Invitational on Friday. Teammate Liz Wedekind (Pennsbury) finished ninth in the mile with a time of 5:46.74.
Penn State senior Tori Gerlach (Pennridge) etched her name among the best ever to wear the blue and white on the track. Gerlach’s big performance at the 2016 Nittany Lion Challenge came in an event she doesn’t normally run. The consummate 3-5K athlete, Gerlach dropped down to run the 1,000m and erased a four-year-old record, recording a time of 2:43.15. Her time not only broke the record held by Penn State great Caitlin Lane, but it was a new personal best in the event as well. Gerlach is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the women’s 100m.
Kutztown freshman Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:29.44 at the Golden Bear Invitational on Friday. Anecia Alexaki (Upper Merion) finished fourth with an existing PSAC mark of 10-10 in the pole vault.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Zakiyyah Richardson (Pennsbury) posted a time of 8.03 to finish sixth in the 60-meter dash at the Ramapo College Season Opener at the NYC Armory on Friday. Emily Makara (Council Rock South) ran a season best in the 800-meter, posting a time of 2:28.85 to finish 11th overall. Kaitlyn Lutz (Upper Merion) ran a season best time of 2:25.24 in the 800. The UM grad has run faster each time she has raced in the 800 this year.
Temple junior Megan Schneider (Hatboro-Horsham) logged a personal best time of 11:16.88 in the 3000-meter race to place 36th overall at the Great Dane Classic on Saturday. Temple placed ninth as a team out of 26 squads.
East Stroudsburg junior Kelley Anne Steutz (Cheltenham) finished third in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.8 at the Kutztown Invitational on Friday night. She also was part of the second place 4x400m relay that finished in 4:11.86.
West Chester junior Christine Johnson (North Penn) won the weight throw with a toss of 51-11 at the KU Collegiate Invite on Friday night. She was sixth in the shot put. Dara Lindsay (Central Bucks East) was second in the 400m with a time of 1:00.66. Emily Dusellier (Souderton) won the 800m with a time of 2:24.83. Emily Magnant (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of the first place 4×400 relay team that posted a time of 4:09.28. Caroline DiJosia (Plymouth Whitemarsh) tied for fourth in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.10.
WRESTLING
Senior Joe Stolfi (Souderton) pinned Ross Larson in Bucknell’s 23-21 loss to No. 9 Oklahoma on Friday.
Philip Torresani (Hatboro-Horsham) earned an 8-4 decision at 125 in Elizabethtown’s 19-16 loss to Shippensburg on Tuesday.
Matt Martoccio (Counci Rock South) earned a 4-3 decision at 157 to propel Kutztown to a 19-18 win over Gannon on Saturday. His win in the final bout was the deciding match.
