MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Gettysburg freshman Dylan McKeever (Central Bucks East) placed 102nd out of 283 runners with a PR of 27:48 in the White Race of the Paul Short Run on Friday at Lehigh University. In last Saturday’s Aggie Cross Country open at Delaware Valley University, McKeever finished 10th with a time of 29:54. Gettysbury captured the team title.
Sophomore Casey Comber (Hatboro-Horsham) led Villanova with an eighth place finish and helped the Wildcats finish 14th in the team standings at the Paul Short Run on Friday. Comber covered the 8,000m Goodman Campus Course at Lehigh in 23:46 and was recognized at the awards ceremony following the race for finishing in the top 25 individually of a field that included over 350 runners.
Ursinus sophomore Daniel Powell (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 27:55 to finish as the team’s 6th man at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Friday. The Bears finished ninth in a 36-team field, edging out last year’s 10th place showing for the top spot in their history at the 44th edition of the Mountain Hawks’ annual meet.
Bloomsburg sophomore Declan McDonald (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 27:03.1 to finish 42nd at the Lock Haven Invitational. Redshirt senior James Wilson (Central Bucks South) was 71st overall with a time of 27:48.7.
Cairn University sophomore Joel Varughese (Bensalem) finished in 14th place overall with a time of 29:24.90 at the Messiah Invitational last Saturday. Messiah finished second as a team.
Penn State Abington freshman Dominic Pignatelli (Central Bucks South) finished 25th with a time of 33:15 at the Lancaster Bible College Homecoming Invitational on Thursday night. The Nittany Lions finished fifth out of eight teams on the 8K course.
St. Joseph’s freshman Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 25:29 to finish 17th overall in the 8K Brown Race of the 2017 Paul Short Run on Friday.
Senior Alex Balla (Quakertown) placed 19th with a time of 25:04 in the Brown race at the 2017 Paul Short Invitational on Friday afternoon. Balla finished within a second of his 8K PR set two years ago at the Paul Short Invitational. Brian Iatarola (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 26:50.
West Chester’s Eric Chapman (Neshaminy) finished 30th with a time of 26:55.8 at the 2017 Lock Haven Cross Country Invitational last Saturday. Chapman improved on last year’s time by over one minute. In the Paul Short White 8K meet at Lehigh on Friday, Chapman finished in a time of 27:42.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Lehigh freshman Hannah Knudsen (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a time of 22:26 in the top-level Gold Race of Friday’s 44th annual Paul Short Run. The Mountain Hawks placed 17th out of 42 teams. In last Friday’s Coast-to-Coast Battle in Boston, Knudsen was Lehigh’s fourth scorer at 19:16.5, good for 137th place.
Delaware Valley University freshman Brynn Reese (Upper Dublin) finished 91st with a time of 32:00.9 to round out the team scoring at the Aggies’ Open last Saturday. Del Val placed 11th as a squad.
Elizabethtown senior Kelsey Brady (Council Rock South) finished second with a time of 14:28.6, setting a new 4,000m PR, at Dickinson’s Long-Short Course Invitational on Saturday.
Shippensburg junior Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 22:23 to finish 21st in the Brown Race at the 2017 Paul Short Invitational on Friday at Lehigh University. Kinkead matched her time from last year’s Paul Short Invitational Brown race. Katie Booth (Council Rock North) posted a time of 24:54 and Abbie Todd (Council Rock North) crossed the finish line with a time of 26:05.
St. Joseph’s sophomore Meridith Twomey (Pennsbury) finished as the Hawks’ #7 runner with a time of 24:01.8 at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday.
Junior Riley Engel (Council Rock North) was at the head of the pack for the second time in as many meets for Ursinus at the 44th annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. Running almost a minute and a half faster than last year’s race and skipping 85 places in the process, Engel led the women with a 31st place finish in a time of 23:32. This was also a 22-second personal best for Engel. As a team, Ursinus finished 25th out of 32 teams.
Kutztown junior Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) led the Golden Bears for the third straight meet, placing 17th with a time of 22:07 at the 6K Brown Race at Paul Short Invitational on Friday at Lehigh University.
FIELD HOCKEY
Freshman Caroline McGovern (Council Rock South) scored in a shootout in No. 9 Boston College’s showdown with No. 2 Duke University on Friday. The two teams went to a shootout after battling to a 2-2 tie that was not broken in a pair of overtimes. Duke edged BC 3-2 in the shootout.
Temple University senior Rachael Mueller (William Tennent) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Sept. 17. Mueller, a 2016 BIG EAST First Team honoree and 2017 Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, had a hand in four of the Owls’ five goals in a 1-1 week. She assisted on both Temple goals in a 4-2 loss at Providence and has a team-leading four assists. In the 3-1 Holy Cross win, Mueller scored both the game-tying and game-winning goals in the second half. She now has a team-best four goals in 2017 and a team-best 12 total points.
Freshman Mia Sexton (Neshaminy) contributed an assist – the first of her career – in Temple University’s 3-2 loss to Georgetown on Friday. In last Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind overtime win over Sacred Heart, Mueller(William Tennent) scored the game-winner to the Owls’ first home win of the year. Becky Gerhart (Quakertown) scored the game-tying goal on a corner with eight minutes remaining in regulation. In Temple’s 4-1 loss to visiting number one UConn, Sexton scored her first collegiate goal in the 59th minute.
Rachel Konowal (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had an assist on the final goal of the game in Monmouth University’s 4-0 win over Sacred Heart on Friday. In last Sunday’s 2-1 victory over visiting Indiana, Konowal converted a penalty stroke. She now has four goals on the year, a career best in a single season, and she is 2-for-2 on penalty strokes. In Monmouth’s 3-2 win over Quinnipiac, Konowal ran her point streak to six games with an assist.
Kristin Donohue (Council Rock South) scored a goal in No. 1 Messiah’s 6-0 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-1 win over No. 11 Franklin & Marshall, Donohue contributed an assist. In last Saturday’s 5-0 win over Alvernia, Donohue split the defense and scored from he top of the circle for the game’s opening goal. The score gave Donohue her 50th career point.In Messiah’s 4-0 win over Catholic University, goalie Landes recorded a season-high six saves, with none bigger than the one that occurred in the 30th minute when she punched away a penalty stroke heading towards the upper left corner of the cage.
Senior Emma Rosenthal (Central Bucks East) had 10 saves, the third time in four games she reached double figures, in Muhlenberg’s 5-1 loss to fifth-ranked Montclair State on Wednesday. She moved into 10th place on the Mules’ all-time list with 178 saves in her career. In last Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Haverford, Rosenthal made five saves.
Katie Bagdon (Council Rock South) blasted home a goal from the point in Drexel’s 3-2 win over Bucknell last Saturday.
Carlie Baldus (Hatboro-Horsham) picked up her team-leading fourth assist of the season in Delaware Valley University’s 3-2 loss to King’s College on Friday. In Wednesday’s 7-1 win over Immaculata, Baldus played a role in a pair of goals scored by the Aggies in a four-and-a-half minute span in the first half, capitalizing on a crossing pass to score a goal that gave Del Valley a 1-0 lead and then assisted on another to give the Aggies a two-goal lead. The Hatboro-Horsham alum finished the game with two goals and two assists. Kara Imes (North Penn) added one goal and two assists.
Emily Cliggett (Central Bucks South) had an assist in Villanova’s 2-1 win over Quinnipiac on Friday. In Villanova’s 4-1 loss to Providence, Christen Pennington (Neshaminy) earned her first defensive save of the season. In Villanova’s 2-1 win over Fairfield, Emma McLaughlin (Quakertown) contributed an assist.
Sophomore Erin Saybolt (Souderton) scored a goal in Ursinus College’s 3-1 win over Dickinson on Saturday. Junior Jules Singer (Council Rock North) recorded four saves to earn her fifth win of the season in Ursinus College’s 3-1 win over Dickinson on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Gettysburg, sophomore Abbie Roberts (North Penn) contributed an assist. In the Bears’ 7-0 rout of Swarthmore, sophomore Anna Hall (Central Bucks West) scored her first career goal. Saybolt had one goal and two assists for a career-best four points while Roberts also had a goal. Singer recorded one save and combined in the shutout with teammate Addie Frey.
Junior goalkeeper Marissa Elizardo (North Penn) was named West Chester University Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1. The North Penn graduate provided seven saves and a shutout for the Golden Rams this past week. Elizardo surrendered only one goal in a pair of games. Her shutout came in Saturday's 5-0 victory over host Seton Hill.
Elizardo recorded seven saves, including some big saves down the stretch, in West Chester’s 1-0 loss to Millersville on Wednesday.
Kaila Brown (Abington) had two goals and Abigail Gabriel (Souderton) added a single goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 10-0 win over Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 4-1 win over Washington College on Wednesday, Maggie Walsh (Central Bucks South) was credited with an assist when her shot from the top of the arc was deflected into the cage. Madison Reiss (Pennridge) recorded a pair of defensive saves in the 56th and 65th minutes to keep Washington off the scoreboard in the second period.
Sam Scoma (Wissahickon) was credited with an assist in Widener’s 1-0 victory in overtime over Lebanon Valley last Saturday.
Freshman Erin Chioffe (Central Bucks South) scored her first career goal on a corner and also contributed an assist in DeSales University's 3-2 win over Delaware Valley University last Saturday. With the win, DeSales (6-2) equalled its win total from last season in just eight games and opened conference play 1-0 for the first time since the 2014 season.
FOOTBALL
Nick Wright (North Penn) had an interception in Delaware Valley University’s 27-7 victory over defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) champion Stevenson University last Saturday.
Ursinus College sophomore Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 24. Garlick scored on an eight-yard scramble with just 20.1 seconds left to give the Bears a 21-17 upset of No. 8 Johns Hopkins, ending the Blue Jays’ 45-game regular season winning streak and 40-game conference streak. Ursinus became the first team to defeat Johns Hopkins in the regular season since Franklin & Marshall in 2012. The sophomore quarterback, a weekly award winner for the first time, finished 11-of-22 for 247 yards and a touchdown through the air and added 104 yards and the winning score on the ground. It was the second time in Garlick’s career that he rushed for 100 yards. Garlick delivered a perfectly thrown deep ball for a 67-yard touchdown on the second play from scrimmage and shook off two fumbles to engineer a drive that will live on in program lore. Garlick marched the Bears 74 yards in 13 plays, taking exactly five minutes off the clock. He kicked off the drive on an 11-yard run and delivered a 16-yard strike on third-and-15 to keep it alive before scampering in on third down with the pocket collapsing to send the Patterson Field crowd into hysterics. Garlick, who surpassed 2,500 career passing yards in the victory, has thrown for 987 yards and six touchdowns to just two interceptions this season and has already registered 307 yards and three scores on the ground.
In last Saturday’s historic 21-17 upset of Johns Hopkins, Garlick finished 12-of-21 for 111 yards and a score and Stacey Gardner (Upper Dublin) finished the game with 13 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Vince Char (William Tennent) had a strong defensive second quarter with five tackles, including 2.5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks, in Widener’s 28-20 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday. The Tennent graduate finished with a career-high 15 tackles in the game, including 3.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks.
Sophomore quarterback Michael Marino (Wissahickon) threw for 162 yards and one touchdown in Chestnut Hill’s 20-7 loss to defending Collegiate Sprint Football League champion Penn last Saturday. Sophomore wide receiver Joe Lee (Hatboro-Horsham) led the Griffins in receptions with four for 33 yards.
Kutztown redshirt junior Craig Reynolds (Abington) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 24. This is Reynolds’ second PSAC Athlete of the Week honor this season and fourth of his career. In the final minute of the first half of KU’s 41-21 win over Millersville, Reynolds notched a 53-yard punt return for a touchdown to cap Kutztown’s 35-point second quarter. It marked the first punt return touchdown for KU since 2010. It was one of three touchdowns on the night for Reynolds, extending his season-long streak to four straight games of scoring two-plus touchdowns. Reynolds ranks third in Division II with 10 touchdowns and 230.75 all-purpose yards per game. He averages 89.8 rushing, 75.8 receiving, 17.0 punt return (11th in Division II) and 27.0 kick return yards this year. For his career, Reynolds ranks sixth in school history with 3,398 all-purpose yards.
Jalen Nieves (Bensalem) and Luke Snyder (Pennsbury) both had seven tackles in Kutztown’s 27-21 loss to West Chester on Saturday. Nieves moved into 19th in school history with 210 school tackles. Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield Township) blocked the extra-point attempt to hold WCU to a 27-21 lead with 49 seconds to play. Josh Lee (Abington) caught a pass on a two-point conversion to tie the score 21-21 with 1:55 to go. Reynolds started but saw limited time due to an injury. Reynolds entered the game third in the Division II at 230.75 all-purpose yards per game. Alec Rosenfeld (Bensalem) connected on a pair of field goals in the first quarter. It marked Rosenfeld’s 19th and 20th field goals, moving him into third in school history. In addition to the big performance of Reynolds, who ended the day with 161 all-purpose yards (56 rushing, 47 receiving and 58 punt returns) in last Saturday’s 41-21 win over Millersville, Adam Krauter (Springfield Township) had 2.5 sacks. Rosenfeld connected on field goals of 28 and 37 yards.
Senior defensive end George Shipp (North Penn) made a game-high eight stops, including two tackles for a loss and a sack while forcing one fumble and being credited with a pass breakup and a pair of QB hurries, in West Chester’s 27-21 win over Kutztown on Saturday.

Penn State Abington freshman Shane Nocito (Harry S Truman) kicked off his collegiate career with a first place finish at the Ursinus Fall Invitational at Ravens Claw Golf Club on Tuesday. The freshman phenom finished tied for first place with a score of 71 out of 47 participants. The Nittany Lions finished in sixth place out of nine participating on the par 71 course.
Widener’s David Shaffer (Central Bucks South) finished in the top half of the pack at the Ursinus Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, carding an 85. In Monday’s LVC Dutchmen Invitational, Lenny Welch (Souderton) recorded an 82, tying for 36th.
Millersville redshirt junior Sean Ebert (Central Bucks West) posted rounds of 75 and 76 at the 36-hole Mercyhurst Fall Invitational. At the Hal Hansen Invitational hosted by Clarion University, Ebert posted two 2-over 74s to lead the team while tying for fifth place.

West Chester’s Juliarose Genuardi (North Penn) tied for sixth individually with a score of 155 at the LeMoyne Fall Invitational.

Austin Daniels (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in Delaware Valley’s 3-2 loss to Wilkes on Saturday. One year removed from celebrating his hat trick at Gwynedd Mercy University, Nick Miller (North Penn) scored the golden goal in the 99th minute to lift Delaware Valley University to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Griffins.
Freshman Jacob Helwig (Central Bucks South) scored his team’s only goal in Ursinus College’s 3-1 loss to Kean.
On a corner, freshman Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin) curled in a ball to Sean Seidenburg who headed in the ball in the net in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 win over Wilson College last Saturday.
Freshman Nick LeFevre (William Tennent) scored his first collegiate goal in Widener’s 2-1 loss to #10 Lycoming College on Saturday.
Freshman Ryan Leatherman (Quakertown) anchored the backline in Cairn University’s 2-0 loss to Centenary on Saturday. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak. In Cairn’s 8-1 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth, Timothy Smith (Abington) contributed a goal.
Sophomore Colin Marks (Pennsbury) scored in the 59th minute and junior Cole Kropnick (Wissahickon) scored on a high-bending free kick in the 66th minute of Shippensburg’s 4-3 loss in double overtime to East Stroudsburg. The goal was Kropnick’s eighth of the season – his third off a free kick – and gives him the most goals in a single season by a Raider since 2013. In last Sunday’s 5-1 win over Lock Haven, Kropnick scored a goal and Marks had an assist. Sophomore Justin Chapuis (Pennsbury) began a passing sequence that netted the final goal of the game. In the Raiders’ 5-2 win over Holy Family, Kropnick had two goals and two assists while Marks added a goal and two assists.
Johnny Ciarlante (Wissahickon) scored a goal with 41 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime in La Salle’s 1-1 tie with LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday night. Ciarlante’s goal came on the ground, beating the LIU Brooklyn keeper on the inside near the post. In last Saturday’s 2-1 win over Hartwick, Ciarlante scored on a cross with just over two minutes to go for the game-winning goal. In La Salle’s 3-0 win over Penn, Matt Robinson (North Penn) scored a goal on a rebound off a block by a Penn defender in front of the net. The goal was his fourth of the season. Ciarlante had an assist on the game’s first goal.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Shannon McGuinn (William Tennent) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season, and this one proved to be the game-winner as Allegheny blanked Fredonia 1-0 on Tuesday night. In last Saturday’s 2-1 win over Dennison, McGuinn cored the first goal of the game.
Junior midfielder Megan Engeland (Pennsbury) netted the game-winning goal in the 29th minute to give Washington and Lee a 2-0 victory over Randolph-Macon last Saturday. In Washington and Lee’s 4-0 win over Meredith, Engeland scored two goals.
Shealyn McCarty (Central Bucks West) contributed an assist in Drexel’s 2-0 win over William & Mary last Sunday.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Kailey Hopkins (William Tennent) was named the CSAC Women’s Soccer Defender of the Week for the week ending Sept. 17. It is the second week in a row she has received that honor. Hopkins made eight saves in a scoreless overtime draw at Cabrini as the Griffins were outshot 23-4. She made a save in the overtime to preserve the tie. Earlier in the week, she made five stops in a 1-0 defeat to Washington College. This season, she boasts a goals-against average under one (0.81 GAA) with an .868 save percentage in six games.
Victoria Braeunle (North Penn) scored her fifth goal of the season in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-2 win over Keystone on Tuesday. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 9-0 win over Cairn, Braeunle contributed a goal and two assists while Sarah Nedwick (North Penn) and Cassidy Rudd (Pennsbury) each added a goal.
Senior goalkeeper McKenna Mullin (Neshaminy) recorded her first win between the pipes, posting two saves in West Chester’s 2-0 win over Edinboro on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Bloomsburg, Carmen Telesco (Central Bucks West) scored with an assist from Linzi Wolfe (Quakertown) to knot the score 1-1 heading into halftime. In West Chester’s 2-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown, Hannah Zach (Central Bucks East) contributed an assist, and Mullin played the final 21 minutes to wrap up the victory.
Sophomore Katelynn Gillinger (Springfield Township) scored her second goal of the season in Cabrini’s 2-1 win over Marywood on Saturday. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Cedar Crest on Tuesday, Gillinger contributed an assist. In last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Cairn, Gillinger scored her first goal of the season.

Brianna Rock (Bensalem) scored a pair of goals in Holy Family’s 5-1 win over visiting Concordia College on Saturday. The Bensalem graduate scored her team-leading ninth goal in the 86th minute. In Thursday’s 7-1 loss to Mercy College, Rock scored her team’s only goal. In Tuesday’s 1-0 win over the Jefferson Rams, Rock scored the game’s only goal. In Holy Family’s 3-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas, Rock contributed an assist.
Grace Bendon (Central Bucks West) made six saves in St. Joseph’s 2-2 double-overtime draw with George Mason on Thursday as she moved to 6-3-2 overall. In St. Joe’s 2-0 win over Richmond, Michaela Finneyfrock (Council Rock North) tallied a goal, and Bendon posted four saves.

St. Joseph’s University senior Maureen Devlin (Wissahickon) earned a 6-3, 6-3 win in her opening match of the 2017 SJU Invitational but fell in the quarterfinals to Drexel’s Ghita Benhadi 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. In the third flight, Katherine Devlin (Wissahickon) topped La Salle’s Ally Santerelli 6-0, 6-3 in the consolation bracket after falling 6-3, 6-3 in her opening match.
Bloomsburg’s Siena Cerra (Neshaminy) was part of a doubles team that notched an 8-1 win on day two of the Bloomsburg Invitational last Sunday. On day one, Cerra’s doubles team earned wins of 8-0 and 8-6.
East Stroudsburg’s Aubrianna Stetina (Quakertown) earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth singles on day two of the Bloomsburg Invitational last Sunday. On day one, she was part of a doubles team that earned an 8-1 win.
Senior Emily Zygmunt (Pennsbury) earned a 3-6, 6-4, 10-0 win at fifth singles in Jefferson University’s 9-0 win over Molloy on Friday. In the Bears’ 5-4 win over St. Thomas Aquinas, Zygmunt was part of the third doubles team that earned an 8-4 win.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Kate Woolsey (Central Bucks East) had 10 digs in Delaware Valley University’s 3-1 loss to Saint Elizabeth last Saturday, and in Del Val’s 3-0 win over Penn State Abington in the second match of Saturday’s tri-match, Woolsey had three service aces. In Del Val’s 3-1 loss to DeSales, Woolsey had team highs of eight digs and two service aces.
Cabrini freshman Steph Judkins (Pennridge) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the third consecutive week. Judkins totaled 44 kills with a .407 hitting percentage and 25 digs to lead Cabrini to four conference wins last week. The rookie recorded 25 kills and 14 digs in victories at Clarks Summit and Keystone. Judkins ended the week leading the CSAC with 4.0 kills per set, good for 23rd in the country, while her .295 hitting percentage ranks seconds in the conference.
Judkins had a team-high 24 kills in Cabrini’s 3-2 win over SUNY Oneonta at the Swarthmore College Garnet Classic on Saturday. Later in the day on Saturday, Cabrini lost to Swarthmore 3-0. Judkins had a team-high 12 kills. The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak. In Friday’s 3-0 win over Widener, Judkins had 12 kills and eight digs. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Centenary University, Judkins led the way with nine service aces. In last Saturday’s 3-0 sweep of Cairn, Judkins paced the offense with 10 kills. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Immaculata, Judkins had nine kills and eight digs, and freshman Lauren Coscia (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had three blocks and two kills. In the Cavaliers 3-0 win at Clarks Summit, Judkins led the way with 12 kills and eight digs, and in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Keystone, Judkins recorded a match-high 13 kills.
Haley Sheehan (Quakertown) had four kills in Cairn University’s 3-0 loss to Immaculata on Saturday. In Cairn’s 3-0 loss to Wesley College, Sheehan tallied six kills and seven digs.
Cori Watson (Souderton) racked up 33 digs in Penn State Abington’s tri-match with Albright and Rutgers-Camden on Saturday. The Nittany Lions came away empty with two 3-0 losses. Last Saturday, Watson had 32 digs in the Nittany Lions’ split with the College of Saint Elizabeth (3-2) and Delaware Valley (0-3).
Katie Kennedy (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had five aces in Elizabethtown’s 3-1 loss to #13 Juniata on Saturday. In Monday’s 3-0 road victory at Alvernia, Chelsea Gallagher (William Tennent) had 13 digs.
Senior Cecilia Weir (William Tennent) had a match-high 17 digs in Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Felician on Saturday while junior Jaime Bonner (William Tennent) totaled six block assists and seven digs. In last Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Nyack, Bonner had eight kills. In Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Merrimack later in the day Saturday, Bonner had eight kills and Weir had 11 digs. In last Friday’s 3-0 sweep of University of the Sciences, Bonner had eight kills while Weir added 14 digs. In Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom, Bonner had eight kills.
Senior Taylor McCartney (Pennsbury) had 12 kills in Ursinus College’s 3-0 win over Lancaster Bible College on Saturday in a tri-match. In the Bears’ 3-0 loss to Dickinson earlier in the day, sophomore Miranda Foster (Neshaminy) led the Bears with seven kills. In Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Penn State-Berks, Foster led the team with 13 kills for a hitting percentage of .286. She also chipped in a pair of digs and a block.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Cait Saalfrank (Pennridge) was chosen the CSAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 24. The rookie libero posted double-digit digs in all four matches, totaling 64 for the week. She led Gwynedd Mercy with 17 digs and a personal-high seven aces against Centenary for Gwynedd’s first conference win as the Griffins went 2-2 last week. On the year, she leads the CSAC in total digs (282) and is ranked second in digs per set (5.53 dps).
Cassie McCarney (William Tennent) totaled a career-high six aces to go along with her six kills and seven digs in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-0 win over Clarks Summit last Monday. In the Griffins’ 3-0 loss to Neumann in the nightcap on Monday, Saalfrank had a match high 15 digs. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr, McCarney had five kills, four aces and four digs, and in their 3-0 loss to Alvernia, Saalfrank had 15 digs. In Gwynedd’s 3-0 win over Centenary, Saalfrank had a personal high seven aces while McCarney picked up four.
Holly Owen (Hatboro-Horsham) had eight kills and led the attack percentage (.250) in Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to Seton Hill on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to California (Pa.), Owen led the Golden Bears with nine kills and a .233 attack percentage. In KU’s 3-1 loss to Clarion, Owen had seven kills.
