MEN’S BASKETBALL
Kutztown redshirt senior Anthony Lee (Abington) received honorable mention honors for Pre-Season All-America by Division II Small College Hoops. Lee, who will be a two-year captain, was one of two Golden Bears from the 2017-18 season to start all 28 games. He led the Golden Bears in scoring at 21.5 points per game, ranking third in the PSAC. He also broke the school record for made three-pointers in a game with eight and in a season with 83. His 51.6 percent from beyond the arc was tops in Division II and the highest any player in KU history has shot in a season. Lee was also fifth in the conference in field goal percentage (54.1) and fourth in free-throw percentage (86.8). Last season, he was voted a PSAC first teamer, a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coaches Division II All-District Second Teamer and a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Region Second Team honoree. The Willow Grove native topped the 1,000-point plateau this past season and has totaled 1,470 career points, ranking him sixth in program history. He has scored in double figures in 74 of his 82 career starts, including all 28 this season. Lee is also in the top 10 in school history in career three-pointers made (183, fifth), career field goals made (508, eighth) and career steals (151, 10th). Entering his redshirt senior season in 2018-19, Lee’s career 49.5 percent from beyond the arc ranks second all-time in PSAC history.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Cairn University junior Joel Varughese (Bensalem) finished first at the CSAC Championships on Saturday, posting a time of 27:25.0. Sophomore Trevor Hickey (Quakertown) finished eighth with a time of 30:19.9.
Bucknell sophomore Connor McMenamin (Souderton) placed 28th at the Patriot League Championships on Saturday with a time of 27:00.1.
Gettysburg sophomore Dylan McKeever (Central Bucks East) placed 35th with a PR time of 27:10 at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday.
Penn State Abington freshman Ben Hoyer (Wissahickon) earned a spot on the NEAC first team after his fourth place finish at the NEAC Championships on Saturday. On the 8K course, Hoyer finished with a time of 26:42. On the wet and muddy field. Dominic Pignatelli (Central Bucks South) earned a time of 31:08 to finish in 42nd. Freshman David Hunt (William Tennent) finished in 64th overall with a time of 35:04. At the Immaculata Invitational, Hoyer led the Nittany Lions in the 4K with a first place finish and a time of 13:30. Pignatelli earned an eighth place finish with a time of 15:11. Hunt contributed to the team’s silver medal, finishing 27th with a time of 17:03.
Saint Joseph’s sophomore Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) finished 56th with a time of 26:02.7 at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Ursinus junior Logan Mazullo (Central Bucks West) was second across the finish line for the Bears at the Centennial Conference Championship on Saturday, placing 43rd in a time of 27:52.7.
Jefferson University freshman Josh Skinner (Upper Dublin) finished 37th out of 88 runners at the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship on Sunday at Belmont Plateau, posting a time of 30:11.9.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Jon Champagne-Cox (Bensalem) was the second Griffin to cross the finish line at the Atlantic East Cross Country Championship on Saturday, posting a time of 35:11.80 to finish 23rd. Chris Laskowski (William Tennent) was 33rd with a time of 38:006.30. Elijah Rizzo (Bensalem) was 38th (42:21.80). At the Immaculata University Invitational, Laskowski crossed the finish line in 17:48 to finish 43rd.
La Salle freshman Sam Earley (Council Rock North) finished in the top 100 at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday.
Chestnut Hill junior Aaron Morris (Springfield Township) finished 26th with a time of 29:15.7 at the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Meet on Saturday.

Cairn University freshman Julia Markey (Souderton) finished ninth at the CSAC Championships on Saturday, posting a time of 28:51.3.
Gettysburg senior Danielle DeMichael (Central Bucks East) placed 61st with a PR of 25:15 at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday. At the Lebanon Valley College Last Chance Run Fast Invitational, DeMichael placed 16th with a time of 24:59.
Penn State Abington senior Claire Reeves (Central Bucks South) finished 45th overall with a time of 29:55 at the NEAC Championship on Saturday. In the Immaculata Invitational, Reeves scored a 25th place finish with a time of 15:40.
Kutztown senior Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) finished 43rd with a time of 23:57 at the 6K Rock Pre-Nationals last Saturday.
Ursinus senior Riley Engel (Council Rock North) led the Bears to an eighth place finish at the Centennial Conference Championship on Saturday. Engel posted a time of 23:55.5 to finish in 33rd place overall. Engel’s placement was a career high, edging last year’s 34th place showing and giving her four consecutive top-50 performances in her conference championship career. Freshman Amanda Choi (Plymouth Whitemarsh) posted a career best time of 27:36.3.
West Chester junior Tara McLaughlin (North Penn) crossed the finish line in 24:37 to take 75th at the Pre-NCAA National Meet last Saturday.
Millersville sophomore Natalie Pietrowski (Neshaminy) placed 40th with a new personal best of 26:32.40 at the LVC Last Chance Run.
FIELD HOCKEY
Junior Becky Gerhart (Quakertown) recorded two defensive saves, including one in overtime, in Temple’s 3-2 overtime loss to Saint Francis on Sunday. The Quakertown graduate has six defensive saves on the season and will likely finish the season ranked in the top three in the nation.
Albright sophomore goalkeeper Brynne Schoppe (North Penn) earned MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 22. Schoppe made 23 saves on 40 shots faced in the Lions’ two games during the week. She opened the week by making seven saves in Albright’s 3-0 setback to Alvernia. She then stole the show against Stevenson by making a career-high 16 saves on 26 shots faced in the Lions’ 3-2 overtime win. Her efforts kept the Lions’ MAC Commonwealth Tournament hopes alive. At the time of the recognition, Schoppe held a 2.13 GAA on the season after taking over starter duties in late September. She has won five games for the Lions and has posted two shutouts as well on the season. She became the first Lions’ field hockey player this season to win a weekly MAC Commonwealth award.
Junior Marley Berger (Springfield Township) converted a penalty stroke to lead Albright to a 3-2 overtime victory against Stevenson last Saturday. Schoppe made a career-high 16 saves.
Emma McLaughlin (Quakertown) scored a goal that knotted the score in Villanova’s 4-3 win over Columbia in double overtime last Sunday. In Villanova’s 3-1 win over Temple, Christen Pennington (Neshaminy) made the insert pass on a corner to set up a goal that knotted the score 1-1.
Alli Dickinson (North Penn) made a defensive save in Eastern University’s 3-0 loss to Arcadia on Saturday. In Eastern’s 5-3 win over Misericordia, Dickinson contributed an assist.
Jess Dixon (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored her second tally of the year in Delaware Valley’s 4-2 loss to Misericordia last Saturday.
Amanda Blum (Neshaminy) knotted the score with her fifth goal of the season in Quinnipiac’s 4-3 come-from-behind win over Holy Cross on Sunday. The Neshaminy graduate finished second on the team with five goals and 13 points. In Friday’s 5-2 win over Temple, Blum scored a pair of goals and has tallied points in four of her last five games. In Quinnipiac’s 2-0 shutout of Sacred Heart, Blum contributed her third assist of the season.
Providence College senior Corinne Kenney (Central Bucks South) has been selected to play in the 2018 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game. The event features the top senior field hockey players in the nation. The participants are given the opportunity to represent their institution while competing with and against their peers. A total of 38 student-athletes were selected to compete in this year’s game. Kenney, a defender, has played in 53 career games for the Friars and has appeared in the starting lineup in each game. She missed the 2016 campaign with an injury but returned to the field to earn All-BIG EAST second team honors as a junior in 2017. During her career, she has registered 10 points on two goals and six assists. This year, she ranks second on the team in assists (five), including a single-game career high of three assists vs. LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 16. In addition to her accomplishments on the field, she also has excelled in the classroom. She is a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team and NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad honoree.
Ursinus College junior Erin Saybolt (Souderton) was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 14. Saybolt scored four goals in a pair of victories for the Bears. The junior netted her first career hat trick in a 4-1 defeat of Muhlenberg, providing the go-ahead goal 20 minutes into the first half and adding a third strike in the 59th minute. Saybolt scored her team-leading 10th goal in a 5-2 triumph over Washington and Lee. Saybolt has already established career highs in both goals and points. She ranks second in the league with 66 shot attempts, and five of her goals have gone down as game-winners.
Saybolt recorded her 13th goal of the season in Ursinus College’s 2-1 win over Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Junior Anna Hall (Souderton) had an assist, and goalie Jules Singer (Council Rock North) made one save in the victory. In Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Washington College, Saybolt had an assist, and Singer recorded one save. In last Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Johns Hopkins in a battle of nationally-ranked squads, Singer stopped one shot after another in the first half and made several incredible stop among had seven saves, including several kick and diving stops. In the Bears’ 2-0 win over Catholic, Saybolt had a hand in both goals, scoring the first and assisting on the second. Singer posted her 12th career shutout to move up to a tie for seventh in program history. She had three saves on the night.
Messiah senior goalkeeper Shelby Landes (Souderton) was named to the roster of NFHCA Division III Senior Game. The Senior Game is set for 5 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex. Landes has appeared in all 81 games as a four-year starter in her career. With 5,344 minutes between the pipes, Landes has logged a career goals-against average of 0.81 and owns a career record of 73-8, a mark that mirrors the Messiah team record of her four-year career. Landes was named All-MAC Commonwealth in each of her first three seasons to go along with a second team All-Region selection during her junior year.
Landes turned away the only shot she faced in No. 2 Messiah’s 3-0 victory over William Smith on Saturday.
Sophomore Sarah Womer (Council Rock South) broke a scoreless tie three minutes into the second half with her first collegiate goal in fourth-ranked Shippensburg’s 3-0 victory over Slippery Rock on Saturday.
Sam Scoma (Wissahickon) scored her eighth goal of the year in Widener’s 2-1 double overtime victory over Albright on Wednesday.
Marisa Elizardo (North Penn) made eight saves in her sixth shutout of the year in No. 1 West Chester’s 3-0 win over Mansfield on Saturday. In West Chester’s 2-1 victory over No. 10 Lindenwood in a shootout, Elizardo made three saves in the game. However, she will not get credit for her greatest save – a diving stick save along the goal mouth in the fourth round of the shootout that set up the game-winner. In the Rams’ 4-0 win over No. 9 Bloomsburg, Elizardo notched her 10th win on the year and fifth by shutout while being called upon to make just one save.
Senior Jackie Shragher (Council Rock South) recorded a defensive save – her second of the season – in 10th-ranked Bloomsburg’s 1-0 win at Mercyhurst on Saturday.
Lafayette junior Jenn DeLongis (North Penn) was awarded the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 14. DeLongis has had a breakout year in the midfield for the Maroon and White in her junior season, adding her first career goal this week to six assists on the season, tops on the team in that category. She has appeared in all 15 games for the Leopards, starting five this fall. DeLongis played a part in both of Lafayette’s goals in a 2-1 victory over a Penn team ranked 20th at the time in the NCAA RPI rankings. She assisted on the opening goal for the Maroon and White and deflected a long shot into the back of the cage midway through the second half for the game-winner. Then, in a crucial conference tilt with Holy Cross, she assisted on the second Leopards tally of the day in a 3-2 victory.
FOOTBALL
Freshman Malik Bootman (Upper Dublin) scored a touchdown in Albright’s 37-26 loss to King’s last Saturday.
Branden Mack (Cheltenham) caught a 20-yard touchdown pass to force overtime in Temple’s 24-17 win over No. 20 Cincinnati last Saturday. Mack finished the game with four receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Luke Snyder (Pennsbury) had nine tackles in No. 15 Kutztown’s 38-21 loss to 12th-ranked West Chester on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 42-28 win over Shippensburg, Snyder forced a fumble and also had five tackles. Craig Reynolds (Abington) threw the first touchdown pass of his career and also caught a touchdown pass. He finished the day with 21 rushing yards and seven catches for 46 yards.
Malcolm Carey (Bensalem) rushed for 71 yards in Alvernia’s 52-0 loss to Lycoming last Saturday.
Sophomore Reece Udinski (North Penn) completed 29-of-52 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns in VMI’s 34-27 loss to Chattanooga on Saturday night. In last Saturday’s 34-32 loss to The Citadel, Udinski set a single game program record with 456 yards of total offense. He also set a new program standard with 49 completions during the game in addition to throwing a career-best five touchdown passes.
Junior Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) set one all-time program record and closed in on another in Ursinus College’s 30-14 Centennial Conference victory over McDaniel on Saturday. Garlick finished 14-of-29 for 225 yards and a pair of touchdown tosses. The Quakertown graduate became the all-time leader in completions with 442, edging past Chris Curran’s 13 and moving to within just 24 yards of Curran’s historic mark of 5,436. In last Saturday’s 41-35 loss to Susquehanna, Garlick completed 28-of-43 for 337 yards. He also rushed for 45 yard. Junior transfer Zach Gravelle (Quakertown) had four receptions for 82 yards. Junior Jack Spingler (Neshaminy) anchored the Bears’ defense with 10 tackles (1.5 for loss).
Redshirt sophomore Terez Franklin (Harry S Truman) came up with his second interception of the season in Shippensburg’s 56-37 win over Lock Haven on Saturday.
Mitchell Vierling (William Tennent) completed 12-of-20 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns in Widener’s 51-0 win over Alvernia on Saturday.
Junior quarterback Michael Marino (Wissahickon) threw for just 76 yards (8-of-13) but completed two touchdown passes in Chestnut Hill’s 48-6 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College in a Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) on Friday.
Mike Cottom (Upper Dublin) had four catches for 55 yards in Lock Haven’s 56-37 loss to Shippensburg on Saturday.
Senior running back Mike Class (Souderton) scored on a 14-yard run to open the second quarter in No. 12 West Chester’s 53-24 win over East Stroudsburg last Saturday.
MEN’S GOLF
Penn State Abington sophomore Luke Fisher (Cheltenham) was the highest finisher for the Nittany Lions with a score of 86 to finish 10th overall at the Eastern Fall Invitational. Ryan Check (Neshaminy) earned a score of 102 to finish 19th. In Penn State Abington’s 422-508 win over Bryn Athyn, Fisher shot an 80 and tied for second place. Christian Jabbar (Council Rock South) tied for sixth place with 94 strokes.
La Salle sophomore Davd Kim (Upper Dublin) posted an 80 (+9) and 78 (+7) in the final two rounds of the 2018 Muskies Invitational for an overall scored of 236. At the Phoenix Invitational, Kim finished tied for 30th and atop the La Salle scorecard. Kim shot a 70 and 71 in round two and three to finish at 216 (+3) for the tournament.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Penn State senior Jackie Rogowicz (Pennsbury) shot a 4-over 76 in the final round to finish 16-over at the Landfall Tradition on Sunday. Penn State finished eighth in the 18-team field.
West Chester senior Juliarose Genuardi (North Penn) won the individual championship to lead the Rams to their first conference title at the 2018 PSAC Women’s Golf Championships last weekend. Genuardi shot an 83 in very windy conditions to stay in front of the field and win the school’s first individual championship. She led the field after all three days of the tournament. Genuardi shot a 229 (+16). West Chester shot a 344 on the final day but still managed to stay in front and take home the team title with a 951.
MEN’S SOCCER
Cairn University sophomore center back Ryan Leatherman (Quakertown) was named to the All-CSAC second team. The Quakertown graduate continued his stellar play in the center of the defense, showing an ability to arrive into tackles at just the right time.
Cameron Sheva (Pennridge) scored a goal in the 81st minute of Elizabethtown’s 5-1 victory over Goucher last Saturday, following up his own header off the right post to slot home his third goal of the campaign. Danny Sullivan (Souderton) contributed an assist
Sophomore John Griffin (Pennsbury) set up the tying goal with a crossing pass in the 76th minute of Cabrini’s 2-1 overtime victory over Immaculata on Tuesday. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy, Griffin contributed an assist.
Sebastian Perkowski (Pennridge) scored a pair of goals and sophomore Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin) recorded his team-leading eighth goal of the season in Penn State Abington’s 7-0 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth on Friday. In last Sunday’s 2-2 tie against SUNY Cobleskill, Palomeque scored in the 60th minute. In last Saturday’s 2-0 win over SUNY Poly, sophomore Sebastian Krysztofowicz (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in the eighth minute.
Senior Cole Kropnick (Wissahickon) took a corner kick that set up a goal in Shippensburg’s 1-1 tie with West Chester.
Kevin Bowers (Council Rock South) netted his team-leading fifth goal of the year – this one on a penalty kick in the 56th minute in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-1 loss to Neumann.
Kevin McKenna (North Penn) scored a goal in Widener’s 2-1 double overtime loss to Alvernia.
Daniel Grindrod (Neshaminy) opened the scoring with a goal in the 15th minute in No. 14 West Chester’s 1-1 tie with Seton Hill on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas, Grindrod’s free kick set up the game-winner in the 89th minute.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Drexel University senior Shaelyn McCarty (Central Bucks West) was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association second team. It is the third All-CAA honor and first second team honor. The senior currently ranks fourth in career goals and fourth in points in Drexel history. She also sits at first this season with six goals and has appeared and started in all but one game for the Dragons. In addition, McCarty has finished each year ranked top five on the team in goals and has been the leading scorer for two seasons.
McCarty contributed an assist in Drexel’s 3-2 double overtime loss to Charleston in the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals on Friday.
Senior Beth McGee (Souderton) scored a goal in Shippensburg’s 2-0 win over Jefferson University on Wednesday.
Junior Katelyn Gilinger (Springfield Township) contributed an assist in Cabrini’s 3-1 victory over Marymount.
Victoria Braeunle (North Penn) scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 loss to Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday night. Kailey Hopkins (William Tennent) had a pair of saves and leaves her name in the Griffin record book as she ranks second all-time in goals-against average (0.91 GAA) and save percentage (.868). Her 334 career saves put her fourth while her 25 wins rank her fifth.
Senior midfielder Megan Engeland (Pennsbury), who had a game-high five shots, contributed a pair of assists in Washington and Lee’s 3-0 Senior Day win over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday. It was her first multi-assist game of the season. In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Ferrum, Engeland contributed an assist. With the assist, Engeland became one of eight players in program history to reach the 80-point mark in her career. In Washington and Lee’s 10-0 win over Hollins last Saturday, Engeland scored her team-best ninth goal on the only shot she attempted. Engeland now trails Fontaine Marcoux (’03) by one goal for sixth on the program’s all-time goals list (37) and is now tied with Kate Bidwell (’01) for the eighth most points in program history (79). In the Generals’ 3-2 loss to Virginia Wesleyan, Engeland had an assist.
Emma Loving (Central Bucks East) converted a penalty kick in the University of Pennsylvania’s 6-0 win over Delaware State on Monday night.
Junior Haley Miller (North Penn) and freshman Christina Kane (Upper Moreland) each scored a goal in Penn State Abington’s 5-0 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth on Friday. In last Sunday’s 4-2 win over Cobleskill, senior Jessica Domansky (Abington) scored a pair of goals. In last Saturday’s 3-2 loss to SUNY Poly, Domansky and Miller both scored a goal.
Taylor Moritz (Souderton) scored her first career goal in Lock Haven’s 3-1 win over California (Pa.) on Saturday.
Holy Family senior Bree Rock (Bensalem) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference CACC
Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 21. It is the second time in three weeks she earned the honor while leading the Tigers to a 2-0 week. Rock scored a goal in each game, accounting for the game-winning score in both. Her biggest goal of the week came in the 60th minute against Caldwell. Her penalty kick broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Tigers the eventual win. It also marked her 50th goal of her career as she became the first player in the program’s NCAA Division II era to score 50 goals. In 15 games this season, Rock leads the CACC in scoring with 39 points and a career-high 17 goals.
Holy Family freshman Jacqueline Ziegler (Neshaminy) was selected the CACC Rookie of the Week ending Oct. 21. It was a career week for Ziegler as she totaled three goals for six points. She scored the team’s first goal in the eighth minute at Shepherd and then went on to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead in the 60th minute with her second goal. It marked her second multi-goal game of the season. Ziegler capped the week with another goal in the team’s win versus Caldwell. She tied the game at 2-2 in the 54th minute with her sixth goal of the season. In 12 games this season, Ziegler has totaled six goals and three assists for 15 points.
Rock scored her 50th career goal to give Holy Family a 3-2 victory over Caldwell last Saturday. Ziegler scored her sixth goal of the season. Senior Alyssa Christiansen (William Tennent) contributed an assist. In Holy Family’s 3-1 win over Shepherd, Ziegler scored a pair of goals, and Rock – with an assist from Christiansen – connected on her conference-leading 16th goal.
Saint Joseph University senior Grace Bendon (Central Bucks West) was named Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer
Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 21. At Fordham, Bendon posted a game-high four saves in helping the Hawks to a 1-0 overtime victory at Fordham. She followed with a clean sheet against St. Bonaventure, making two saves in a 1-0 victory to set a new SJU single-season record for wins with her 13th. Playing every minute in goal for SJU this year, Bendon has gone 13-4-2 with a career-best 0.77 goals-against average and a .810 save percentage. A four-year starter, Bendon holds the Hawks’ record for career wins (31), ranks second all-time in goals-against average (1.22) and is tied for second in career shutouts (15).
Bendon was credited with two saves and recorded her eighth shutout of the season in Saint Joseph’s 2-0 win over Fordham in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday. The West graduate added to her single season record for wins with her 14th. Saint Joseph’s will face VCU in the semifinals next Friday. In last Sunday’s 1-0 win over St. Bonaventure, freshman Mackenzie Ehresman (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist on the game’s only goal. Bendon recorded a pair of saves. In the Hawks’ 1-0 victory over Fordham, Ehresman contributed an assist and Bendon made four saves for her sixth shutout.
Freshman Kelsey Butler (Pennsbury) contributed an assist in Jefferson University’s 2-0 win over Concordia last Saturday. It was her fourth assist.
Hannah Zach (Central Bucks East) scored her second goal in as many games, putting in her own rebound after the goalie made a great save to stop her initial shot, giving West Chester a commanding 4-0 lead on its way to a win by that score. McKenna Mullin (Neshaminy) got the start in goal and made six saves in the shutout win. In Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Mansfield, Zach scored a goal. Senior Alyssa Ryan (Wissahickon) contributed a goal and an assist in 12th-ranked Kutztown’s 4-2 win over the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Saturday. In KU’s 2-1 victory over East Stroudsburg, Ryan contributed an assist.
Freshman Kate Schlotter (Central Bucks East) earned an assist – her first collegiate helper – in No. 10 Bloomsburg’s 1-0 win over Edinboro on Saturday. Junior Jessica Milligan (Pennridge) had four shot attempts.

Millersville freshman Frank Yanni (North Penn) earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at flight four singles in Millersville’s 4-3 loss to Jefferson. It was the first win of his collegiate career.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Senior Stephanie Jin (Wissahickon) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at number one singles and also was part of the second doubles team that notched an 8-6 win in Penn State Abington’s 5-4 loss to Kean. Marta Tymchenko (Bensalem) earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at third singles.
Junior Aubrianna Stetina (Quakertown) earned a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-3) at number two singles in East Stroudsburg’s 5-1 loss at St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Haley Sheehan (Quakertown) had eight kills and one assist in Cairn University’s 3-1 loss to Clarks Summit on Thursday. In Cairn’s 3-1 loss to Keystone, Sheehan had 12 kills, two aces and one block. In the Highlanders 3-0 win over Cheyney, Sheehan had 14 kills and one ace.
Cabrini University sophomore Steph Judkins (Pennridge) was named Atlantic East Offensive Player of the
Week for the week ending Oct. 15. It is the fourth time this season she received the honor. Judkins anchored the Cavaliers’ offense as the team went 3-1 on the week. The sophomore paired 59 kills with a .226 hitting percentage and 34 digs to go with six service aces and three total blocks. Judkins had 15 kills against Neumann and 14 against Gwynedd Mercy as Cabrini scored 3-0 wins. The sophomore added a pair of double-doubles as the Cavaliers split matches. In a 3-0 loss to Stevenson, Judkins tallied 11 kills and 11 digs before recording 19 kills and 13 digs in a 3-1 victory over Kean.
Judkins provided the firepower in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Rowan on Saturday, finishing with 17 kills, against two errors, and eight digs. The sophomore entered the Cabrini record book in the first set as her sixth kill of the day broke the program’s single season kills mark of 453. Hannah Dalton (Abington) totaled three blocks. In Tuesday’s 3-0 loss to Franklin & Marshall, Judkins had 15 kills while Dalton had five. In last weekend’s 3-1 win over Marymount, Judkins earned match-high honors with 17 kills to go with 10 digs. Later In the day, Cabrini swept Keystone 3-0. Judkins led the way with 15 kills while Dalton added eight kills, two service aces, two blocks and four digs. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win at Marywood, Judkins had 10 kills and a match-high eight digs.
Sam Jones (Hatboro-Horsham) had 19 digs and one ace in Kent State’s 3-0 win over Central Michigan on Saturday. In Thursday’s 3-0 loss to Ohio University, Jones had 12 digs. In Kent State’s 3-2 win over Northern Illinois, Jones had 25 digs.
Senior Jaime Bonner (William Tennent) had nine kills and senior Candyce Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed eight digs in Holy Family’s 3-0 victory over Wilmington University on Saturday. In Holy Family’s 3-2 win over Pace, Riley recorded 13 digs, including her 1,000th career dig. She became the ninth player in program history to reach the 1,000 career dig milestone. With her 13 digs, she now has 1,011 for her career. Bonner added 10 kills and two block assists.
Junior Miranda Foster (Neshaminy) had five kills in Ursinus College’s 3-0 sweep of Bryn Mawr on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Washington College, Foster had five kills and two blocks. In the Bears’ 3-1 victory at Albright, Foster had a career-best 15 kills (.500 hitting percent).
Gwynedd Mercy University sophomore Cait Saalfrank (Pennridge) was selected the Atlantic East Volleyball
Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 21. It was Saalfrank’s fifth weekly honor this year and her third as its top defensive player. She hit a milestone in the Griffins’ match at Valley Force as the sophomore notched her 1,000th career dig, becoming the third player in program history to each the mark. In three matches, she tallied 59 digs (4.92 dps) in 12 sets while posting a .933 reception percentage on 89 attempts. Her best match came against Marywood when she registered 32 digs while adding three kills and a season-high six aces.
Madelyn Mosser (Pennridge) had seven kills, 11 digs and a season-high five blocks (two solo) in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-1 loss to Immaculata on Wednesday night. Cassie McCarney (William Tennent) had a career-high three blocks, and Saalfrank had two services aces. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-0 win over Valley Forge, Saalfrank hit the 1,000-career dig milestone. The Pennridge graduate totaled 12 digs to giver her exactly 1,000 in just her sophomore season. She becomes the third player in program history to hit the mark. Mosser had a season high six while Saalfrank added four. Mosser also had seven kills. Bridget McTamney (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a pair of aces. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-2 loss to Marywood, Mosser tied a career high with 15 kills and added 13 digs for her third double-double on the year. McCarney finished the night with seven kills, four digs and a pair of aces. In the Griffins’ 3-1 loss to Neumann, Mosser had four aces and 10 kills. McTamney had three. Saalfrank totaled 15 digs.
Holly Owen (Hatboro-Horsham) had 14 kills in Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to California (Pa.) on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to Seton Hill, Owen had six kills. In KU’s 3-0 sweep of IUP, Owen set the tone, posting 13 kills on 23 attempts (.522 hitting percentage).
Freshman Bryn Stek (Upper Dublin) totaled 18 assists in Bloomsburg’s 3-0 loss to 20th-ranked Gannon on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Mercyhurst, Stek had a double-double with 29 assists and 16 digs. In Wednesday’s 3-1 loss at Susquehanna, Stek had 15 assists and eight digs. In last Friday’s 3-1 loss to Slippery Rock, Stek had 16 assists to go along with two kills, two aces and seven digs.
