MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington freshman Alexander Beltz (Abington) ran a personal best of 28:34 to finish in 106th overall at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday. Michael Cooney (North Penn) earned 124th place with a time of 29:02, which was a personal best for the sophomore. Minaam Ahmed (Pennsbury) finished 181st with a time of 32:04 on the 8K course.
West Chester redshirt freshman Eric Chapman (Neshaminy) was 28th overall with a time of 28:47 at the Mack Cooper Invitational on Saturday.
Shippensburg junior Alex Balla (Quakertown) finished 11th with a time of 27:12 at the 2016 Mack Cooper Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock on Saturday. Senior Alec Brand (Central Bucks East) and freshman Brian Iatarola (Central Bucks West) both finished with a time of 27:59. Shippensburg finished second in the team standings.
Freshman Declan McDonald (Central Bucks West) was 10th overall in 29:11 in the Husky Invitational on Saturday that saw the Huskies finish with 16 points compared to 54 for second place Mansfield, 84 for Penn State-Schuylkill and 85 for Penn State-Scranton.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Elizabethtown sophomore Kelsey Brady (Council Rock North) ran a season-best 6,000-meter time at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 23:03 to finish 22nd. Elizabethtown finished second in the team standings.
Penn State Abington freshman Claire Reeves (Central Bucks South) ran a personal best in 137th with a time of 26:30 on the 6K course at the DeSales Invitational, moving her into the top 10 performances in Abington history.
West Chester freshman Tara McLaughlin (North Penn) finished 33rd overall with a time of 25:37 at the Mack Cooper Invitational on Saturday.
Shippensburg sophomore Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) was ninth with a time of 23:40 at the 2016 Mac Cooper Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Lindsey Gerlach (Central Bucks West) finished three places behind in 23:48. Freshman Maria Antoni (Upper Moreland) finished 28th in 25:07, and sophomore Abbie Todd (Council Rock North) placed 33rd in 25:26.
Kutztown sophomore Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) placed sixth overall with a time of 23:34 at the Mack Cooper Invitational. It was her second straight top seven finish of the season and fourth consecutive top 11 showing. She has had the highest individual finish for KU in all four of its races in her sophomore campaign. Olivia Dettore (Central Bucks West) was KU’s fourth fastest runner on Saturday, finishing 25th in 25:04.
Senior Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) finished third at the Husky Invitational on Saturday with a time of 24:12 to lead Bloomsburg (16 points) to an easy win over second place Mansfield (47 points) in the four-team invitational. Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) finished sixth in 24:31.
FIELD HOCKEY
Lehigh University senior Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) received Patriot League honorable mention recognition for the week ending Oct. 2. Glatt scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Holy Cross before assisting on a goal during Lehigh’s 4-3 win over Siena.
Glatt scored a pair of goals in Lehigh University’s 5-0 win over Towson on Sunday. In Saturday’s 6-0 win over Colgate, Glatt and Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) each contributed a goal. Glatt also had an assist.
Junior goalkeeper Emma Rosenthal (Central Bucks East) was forced to make just one save in No. 14 Muhlenberg’s 1-0 win over Washington College on Saturday. The win was the 11th straight, the best start ever in program history.
Sophomore midfielder Ashley Laskowitz (Wissahickon) scored a goal in Miami University’s 3-2 win over Longwood on Friday.
Shelby Landes (Souderton) saved the two only shots that were put on goal in No. 1 Messiah College’s 4-0 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday. The win was the 10th in a row for the Falcons. In Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Gettysburg, Landes tallied five saves.
Maggie Walsh (Central Bucks South) scored a goal during corner play in Gwynedd Mercy’s 6-0 rout of Immaculata on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 6-5 win over Stockton University, Walsh knocked in her first tally of the season off a corner.
Junior Megan Hamilton (Central Bucks South) tallied the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute in Providence’s 2-1 win over Quinnipiac in overtime on Saturday. It marked the first ever BIG EAST Conference regular season matchup between the two teams as Quinnipiac joined the league as an affiliate member in field hockey in 2016. With the win, Providence improved to 10-3.
Sophomore keeper Marissa Elizardo (North Penn) had a career-best 13 saves in Bryant University’s 2-1 loss to Rider on Sunday. The Broncs scored the game winner a man-up.
Senior Amber Steigerwalt (Central Bucks South) scored a pair of goals in Ursinus College’s 6-2 Centennial Conference victory at Johns Hopkins of Saturday. Her first goal in the 19th minute was the 50th of her prodigious career. The co-captain is the 10th player in program history to reach that benchmark and only the 16th in CC history. In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Haverford, Steigerwalt contributed a goal. Sophomore goalie Jules Singer (Council Rock North) was not called on to make a save for the Bears. It was the North grad’s second solo shutout of the season.
Junior Rachael Mueller (William Tennent) came up with her third game-winning goal of the season, this time doing it in dramatic fashion in the seventh minute of overtime in Temple’s 2-1 upset of No. 13 Old Dominion on Friday. Freshman Becky Gerhart (Quakertown) contributed a defensive save and was part of an all-around outstanding backfield effort for the Owls, who won their fourth game in a row.
Colleen McCabe (William Tennent) contributed an assist in Lock Haven’s 3-0 win over Appalachian State on Friday night.
FOOTBALL
Sophomore Josh Adams (Central Bucks South) ran for 51 yards on 14 carries in Notre Dame’s 10-3 loss to North Carolina State on Saturday.
Senior running back Javon White (Souderton) had a 16-yard touchdown run in Villanova’s 35-0 win over Rhode Island on Saturday. The Souderton grad finished with 58 yards on 10 rushes.
Senior captain Steve Gozur (North Penn) recorded a team-high seven tackles and was one of five different players to reach paydirt in Widener’s 34-6 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon. Kozur returned an interception for a touchdown and also had a sack. Senior Alex Krivda (Pennridge) completed 18-of-29 passing attempts for 269 yards and had five different targets catch at least three of his tosses.
Freshman quarterback Michael Marino (Wissahickon) completed 15-of-22 pass attempts and threw for 160 yards in Chestnut Hill’s 14-12 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Bowl II victory over Post University on Saturday. He completed seven passes to freshman wide receiver Joe Lee (Hatboro-Horsham), whogained 52 yards.
Evan Stahl (Central Bucks South) connected on a 29-yard field goal in Millersville’s 38-23 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
Craig Reynolds (Abington) ran for his fourth 100-yard game in the last five weeks with 106 in Kutztown’s 34-24 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday. He also ran for his team-leading ninth touchdown. Jalen Nieves (Bensalem) returned to the starting lineup and had a team-high 11 tackles, including three for a loss.
Redshirt junior Nick Pellechia (Council Rock South) blocked an extra point in Bloomsburg’s 34-24 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
Senior quarterback Bruce Campbell (Pennsbury) contributed 330 yards of total offense – which include a passing touchdown and a rushing TD – in East Stroudsburg’s 38-23 win over Millersville on Saturday. It was his third career game with 300 yards of total offense in nine starts, including his second in six starts.
MEN’S GOLF
Junior Clay Anders (Souderton) led Cabrini with a round of two over par 74 in the Sixth Annual Philadelphia University Fall Classic at the ACE Club on Tuesday, finishing fourth overall out of 45 golfers. Cabrini placed second out of nine teams.
Penn State Abington senior Mike Lam (Neshaminy) shot an 81 and tied for 23rd place while Sean Altimar (Central Bucks South) finished a stroke behind in 25th overall at the Philadelphia University Invitational on Tuesday.
Millersville redshirt senior Rodney Anders (Souderton) posted his third top 25 finish this season at the Bud Elwell Fall Classic on Monday. In the first round, Anders shot 11-over-par to finish the day in a tie for 33rd. In the second round, he shot 6-over-par to finish tied for 25th.
MEN’S SOCCER
Sophomore Nick Miller (North Penn) tied a school record with three goals in Delaware Valley’s 3-2 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday. The North Penn grad tied the mark that is held by numerous players in the 40-year history of the program. Austin Daniels (Central Bucks East) contributed an assist.
Senior Ryan Molyneaux (Souderton) buried a penalty kick in Ursinus College’s 2-1 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday. The goal was his second career penalty kick marker. In Wednesday’s 2-0 non-conference win at Wilkes, Justin Molyneaux (Souderton) tallied the first goal of his career late in the first half, and Ryan Molyneaux joined his younger sibling in the scoring column with an unassisted strike in the second half.
Lafayette freshman Evan Vare (Central Bucks East) was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2. Vare continues to emerge as one of the top forwards in the Patriot League this season, adding a pair of goals in wins over Fairleigh Dickinson and Army. The rookie has scored in each of Lafayette’s five wins this season, and the two goals bring his total to six on the year, good enough for second in the Patriot League rankings.
Vare contributed an assist in Lafayette’s 1-0 win at Bucknell on Wednesday.
Eric Gutierrez (Harry S Truman) stopped a career-high seven shots in Philadelphia University’s 1-0 loss to Mercy College on Wednesday.
Johnny Ciarlante (William Tennent) netted his third goal of the season to break a scoreless tie just six minutes into the match in La Salle’s 2-1 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Shaelyn McCarty (Central Bucks West) scored her sixth goal of the season in Drexel’s 1-1 tie with UNC Wilmington on Sunday. McCarty came up the left side, beat a Seahawks’ defender and pulled the UNCW keeper out of the net before she sank a low shot into the middle of the net. The goal put McCarty back as team leader in goals scored. In Friday’s 3-0 win over the College of Charleston, McCarty contributed a cross.
Freshman Emma Loving (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in the University of Pennsylvania’s 4-0 win over American University on Tuesday. It was the team-leading fifth goal for the CB East graduate.
Megan Schafer (Neshaminy) contributed an assist in Penn State’s 1-1 draw with Indiana on Thursday night. The tie extended the team’s unbeaten streak to nine games.
Sophomore Jessica Supp (Pennridge) scored the first goal in Bloomsburg’s 2-1 win at Mansfield on Wednesday.
McDaniel junior Sarah McDonald (Pennsbury) was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of
the Week for the week ending Oct. 2. McDonald led McDaniel to a pair of shutout victories. The junior backstopped two 1-0 wins to help the squad record its seventh and eighth straight shutouts. She made five saves on the week. The eight straight shutouts set a new program record and ties the conference mark. For the season, McDonald is 8-0 with five individual shutouts. She has posted a 0.27 goals-against average and .905 save percentage.
McDonald recorded a season-high 10 saves in goal in McDaniel’s 1-0 double overtime loss to No. 14 Messiah on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Dickinson, McDonald made five saves in net.
Haley Miller (North Penn) scored in the seventh minute when she capitalized off a rebound for her sixth goal of the season in Penn State Abington’s 2-1 overtime win over Morrisville State on Saturday.
Crissy Terraces (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a goal in the 80th minute to propel Albright to a 1-0 win over Lycoming on Tuesday.
West Chester University midfielder Haley Mangiaruga (North Penn) was named the PSAC co-athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 2. Mangiaruga scored a goal in each of West Chester’s two wins, leading the No. 9 Golden Rams to a 5-0 win over Millersville and a 1-0 win over No. 20 Edinboro.
Goalie Kailey Hopkins (William Tennent) made eight saves to help lead Gwynedd Mercy to a 3-0 CSAC win at Cedar Crest on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Marywood, Hopkins was kept busy, making eight stops in the first 45 minutes.
Megan Engeland (Pennsbury) scored the game winner for the Washington and Lee Generals in a 1-0 win over Roanoke last Saturday. She followed that by scoring the game winner on Sunday (10/9) in a 1-0 win over Bridgewater. Engeland now has three game winners for the Gennies who are 4-1 in the ODAC.
MEN’S TENNIS
Albright junior Evan Cuff (Wissahickon) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alvernia’s Colin McCloskey in the No. 2 doubles quarterfinals at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday. In the opening round on Friday, Cuff earned an 8-2 win over Murph Lynch of Misericordia.
Penn State Abington freshman Tarik Dashields (Cheltenham) was named the NAC West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2. Dashields won an 8-1 decision in doubles with his partner Prerak Patel and earned a dramatic 7-6 (14-12), 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) victory over the Rangers.
Sean Kimball (Central Bucks East) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles while Dashields earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth doubles in Penn State Abington’s 9-0 win over Delaware Valley.
West Chester senior Norman Patton (Council Rock South) advanced to the finals of the PSAC Individual Championships where he fell to Edinboro’s number one seed (6-0, 2-6, 10-8) in the championship match.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Emily Zygmunt (Pennsbury) was part of the third doubles team that earned an 8-4 win in Philadelphia University’s 7-2 win over Holy Family on Thursday.
West Chester University senior Claire Uhle (Wissahickon) fell in the semifinal match of the PSAC Individual Championships to IUP’s second seed. She also was part of the doubles portion of the championship, advancing to the finals before falling 8-2 to their opponents from IUP. The tandem earned an 8-1 win in the semifinals. In the opening round, Uhle earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over her opponent from Shippensburg and was part of an 8-3 win over a team from Seton Hill in doubles. In Wednesday’s 7-2 win over Chestnut Hill, Uhle was part of an 8-2 win at first doubles.
Kristen Kriebel (Pennridge) earned a 6-2, 6-0 win a fourth singles and was part of the second doubles 8-2 win in Gwynedd Mercy’s 9-0 win over Arcadia on Wednesday. In Tuesday’s 9-0 win over Cabrini, Kriebel earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles and was part of an 8-1 win in second doubles.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore Sam Jones (Hatboro-Horsham) had eight digs and two aces in Kent State’s 3-0 sweep of Central Michigan on Saturday.
Kate Woolsey (Central Bucks East) recorded 10 kills and five digs in Delaware Valley’s 3-0 loss to FDU-Florham on Tuesday.
Sophomore Cori Watson (Souderton) racked up 36 assists on the day in Penn State Abington’s sweep of Notre Dame of Maryland (3-0) and Penn State Lehigh Valley (3-1) on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Valley Forge, Watson had 21 assists, and sophomore Maddi Richard (William Tennent) recorded four service aces and 17 digs.
Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) finished with a match-high 11 kills in No. 14 Eastern University’s 3-0 win over Manhattanville College on Tuesday.
Lauren Laucella (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed four kills, four digs, five block assists and three assists in Philadelphia University's 3-1 win over Nyack on Saturday.
