WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) was named a tri-captain of the Princeton University women’s
basketball team. In 2014-15, Wheatley earned first team All-Ivy honors. The CR South graduate averaged 10.9 points per game and pulled down 5.1 rebounds per outing. Scoring in double digits on 15 occasions, Wheatley knocked down 131 of her 233 shots attempts and led the league with a career high 56.2 shooting percentage. Wheatley was also third in blocks per game (1.4). Over the course of her first four seasons, Wheatley has amassed 764 points and 383 rebounds while shooting 55.3 (339-613). Fresh off a 31-1 season, Princeton has earned a No. 25 ranking in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll. The first ever Ivy League program to earn a preseason national ranking, the Tigers are coming off one of the most historic campaigns in Ivy League basketball history. They closed out the year with a perfect 30-0 record, earning the highest ever national ranking for an Ivy team, climbing as high as No. 13 in the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls. The Tigers’ 30-0 campaign was also the best in league history, surpassing the 1970-71 Penn men’s team’s mark of 28-0. The Tigers captured their fifth Ivy title in six years and earned the highest ever NCAA seeding in the conference’s history (No.8) and became just the second Ivy team to record a tournament win with an 80-70 first round victory over ninth-seeded Green Bay, seeded 16th.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn sophomore Ross Wilson (Council Rock North) posted a time of 25:21.5 to finished 21st at the Ivy Heptagonal Cross Country Championship at the famed Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Friday. The Quakers finished second as a team, four points shy of champion Columbia. It is their best Heps showing since 1973.
Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) led the way for Penn State Abington with a third place finish at the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday morning, posting a time of 27:41. Billy Donovan (Upper Moreland) finished in 22nd place at 29:51, and Alek Clementson (William Tennent) finished in 35th place at 31:01. The Nittany Lions placed fifth out of 12 teams.
Shippensburg freshman Ian Davies (Central Bucks West) had his first turn as an SU scorer at Lock Haven’s Go Fast River Run on Saturday, running his best race to date as a Raider. He improved his 8K PR by 37 seconds, crossing the finish line in 26:34 to place ninth overall. Junior Alec Brand (Central Bucks East) placed 14th in 26:55.
La Salle junior Francis Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) finished seventh with a time of 24:51.9 at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday. Ferruzzi made his move between the second mile and the fifth mile as he moved from 15th place to third place as a result of a 10:26.0 split. He ultimately ran a 24:51.9 on the five-mile course and earned All-Conference honors. Junior Chris Berry (Central Bucks West) finished in 65th place with a time of 25:55.9. La Salle finished in fourth place with 106 team points.
Henry Colby (William Tennent) led Lock Haven to a fourth place finish at the LHU Go Fast River Run on Saturday, finishing fifth out of 76 runners with a time of 26:06.33 on the 8K course. Jack Felt (Council Rock North) finished 18th with a time of 27:02.53.
Alex Moran (Pennridge) was Bloomsburg’s second runner to cross the finish line at the Lock Haven Go Fast River run, posting a time of 31:58 and finishing 67th.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Natalie Ross (Souderton) earned second team All-MAC honors for the second straight year, finishing 19th with a time of 24:39.86 at the MAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. Emma Barbagallo (Council Rock North) finished 36th out of the field of 164 with a time of 25:37.86. Messiah finished third as a team.
Moravian College junior Sarah Hughes (Souderton) was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team after placing eighth with a time of 23:49.02 at the 2015 Landmark Conference Championship meet hosted by The United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday.
Shippensburg freshman Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) captured first place at Lock Haven’s Go Fast
River Run on Saturday, posting a time of 22:40. Kinkead, running for the sixth time this season, all but assured herself a spot in next week’s regional championships lineup by running a season PR of more than one minute. Freshman Lindsey Gerlach (Central Bucks West) placed 10th with a time of 23:11, posting a 42-second season best with the performance. Freshman Abbie Todd (Council Rock North) and junior Gabby Brackett (Bensalem) also recorded new collegiate cross country PRs. Todd ran 23:33 to finish 12th and improve her collegiate 6K PR by more than a minute.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Brittany Finn (Upper Moreland) earned second team All-CSAC honors for placing ninth with a time of 22:01.8 at the 2015 Colonial States Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at McDade Park in Scranton. Emily Makara (Council Rock South) joined her on the second team squad as she finished 13th with a time of 22:29.6.
La Salle freshman Kaitlin Poiesz (Central Bucks South) earned All-Atlantic 10 honors, thanks to a seventh place finish and a time of 17:31.1 at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Poesz was able to move up three spots from the 10 to seven from the 3.4k mark to the finish. The La Salle women finished in third place overall with 111 team points on the day.
Penn State senior Tori Gerlach (Pennridge) finished fourth with a time of 20:04.9 to lead Penn State to the title at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Sunday. The championship marks the Nittany Lions’ first title since 2009.
Steph Dowd (Souderton) was Lock Haven’s top finisher with a time of 24:33.85 to finish 24th out of 60 at the LHU Go Fast River Run on Saturday.
Bloomsburg University’s Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) finished third at the Go Fast River Run hosted by Lock Haven on Saturday. The Wissahickon graduate covered the 6k course in 22:47, averaging 6:06 per mile.
FIELD HOCKEY
Meghan McCullough (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a goal and an assist in Quinnipiac’s 5-4 overtime win over Fairfield on Sunday. With the win, Quinnipiac earned a share of the MAAC title.
Sophomore Emma Rosenthal (Central Bucks East) made eight saves in Muhlenberg’s 4-0 loss to No. 6 Ursinus on Friday.
Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) closed out the year with 12 assists and a tie for Delaware Valley’s single-season record.
Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) had three saves in The College of New Jersey’s 6-2 win over Kean University on Saturday.
Hannah Heritage (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an assist in Elizabethtown’s 3-2 win over Scranton on Saturday. The win locked up the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference Championships.
Kristin Donohue (Council Rock South) contributed an assist in No. 17 Messiah College’s 4-1 win over No. 5 William Smith on Saturday.
Freshman Tara Murphy (Springfield) scored the equalizer with 10:07 on the clock in the first period of American University’s 3-1 win over Bucknell on Saturday, getting the deflection on a penalty corner.
In addition to honoring the six seniors on this year’s team in a pregame ceremony, the Eagles had a special moment to begin the game as senior Emilie Ikeda (North Penn) stepped on the field as a starter. Ikeda’s career was prematurely ended by injuries suffered in her sophomore season, but she has continued to be an integral part of the team, including serving as a team captain this year. “[Having Emily on the field] was clearly the most special moment for us of the whole day,” American coach Steve Jennings said. “Emilie is a tremendous person with unbelievable character. To be able to honor her in such a fitting way – it warmed all of our hearts to have her back on the field.”
Maggie Walsh (Central Bucks South) and Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) both contributed assists in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-1 win over Delaware Valley in the Griffins’ regular season finale. In Wednesday’s 5-1 win over Marywood, O’Neill set up a goal on a penalty corner.
Senior Emily Vasey (Central Bucks East) scored the game-winning goal two minutes into overtime in La Salle’s 2-1 victory over Columbia on Sunday in the season finale. For Vasey, it was her second career goal and wrapped up one of the best games in her career. She took a pass from classmate Jenica Miller, and her shot reached the upper corner of the cage after being partially deflected by the keeper. It led to a dog pile of Explorers as the team celebrated the exciting finish.
FOOTBALL
Senior Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Special Teams Player of the
Week on Sunday after setting records the day before in a 63-27 victory over Millersville. Mayer’s honor is his second PSAC Special Teams award of the season. The Norristown graduate had a day for the ages in Shippensburg’s rout of Millersville, totaling a single-game school record 177 punt return yards and scoring twice – on runbacks of 66 and 91 yards. Mayer totaled 28 more punt return yards than any Division II player had in a single game this season. His 91-yard score is the second longest punt return touchdown in school history. Mayer is now the SU record holder with four career punt return touchdowns, with three coming this season (he returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown at Cal in Week 3). He also caught a touchdown in the first quarter, giving him three scores on the day and 186 all-purpose yards. Mayer now has 951 career punt return yards, making him Division II’s active career leader for the category.
Junior Alex Krivda (Pennridge) factored into five touchdowns in leading Widener University to a convincing 48-7 rout of Lycoming on Saturday afternoon. The Pennridge graduate threw for 183 yards by completing 25 of his 40 attempts. He had four touchdown passes and another touchdown run on the ground to pace the Pride offense.
Andrew Cohen (Council Rock South) finished with four tackles, including 1.5 sacks, in West Chester’s 41-20 win over Cheyney on Saturday.

Senior Mike Lam (Neshaminy) shot a 78 to finish eight off the leader to lead Penn State Abington at the Scarlet Raptor Fall Invitational on Monday. Next Sean Ailtmar (Central Bucks South) stroked an 83, and Matthew Amey (Upper Dublin) finished behind him with an 89. The Nittany Lions finished eighth in the 14-team tournament.
Sophomore Lenny Welch (Souderton) fired a 79 to lead Widener to a 10th place finish among 14 scoring programs at the Rutgers-Camden Invitational on Wednesday at Pennsauken Country Club. Welch’s 79 on the par 70, 6,250-yard course was good for a tie for 12th to lead the way for the Pride.

West Virginia junior Carly Black (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the 2015 Academic All-District 2
Women’s Soccer Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Black, a defender, owns a 3.89 GPA in exercise physiology and also is pursuing a minor in sport and exercise psychology. A two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 Soccer First Team, she was named to the 2014 NSCAA All-Region Honorable Mention Team and also is a member of the President’s and Dean’s Lists, the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll. Black started all 52 career matches at center back before suffering a season-ending knee injury in West Virginia’s 2-0 win at No. 15 Ohio State on Sept 11. Prior to her injury, she helped the Mountaineers record six shutouts; the Mountaineers allowed only two goals in their first seven games this season.
Penn State sophomore Megan Schafer (Neshaminy) was named to the All-Big Ten second team. The Neshaminy graduate turned in a phenomenal sophomore campaign as she tied for second in the Big Ten in goals (10) and points 922).
Penn State freshman Marissa Sheva (Pennridge) was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the week ending Oct. 25. The Pennridge graduate tallied the game-winning goal on her lone shot attempt in the 39th minute in Penn State’s 2-1 win over Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. After a giveaway near midfield, Sheva found the back of the net from 15 yards out.
Schafer and Shevaboth contributed assists in Penn State’s 3-1 win over Illinois in the quarterfinals of the Big 10 Tournament on Sunday. The Nittany Lions return to action Friday when they will host Michigan in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament. In Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Michigan, Schafer stole the ball 30 yards out from the goal and beat a diving keeper from just inside the penalty box for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Grace Miorelli (Souderton) scored the game winner to give fourth-seeded Cedarville a 2-1 win over fifth-seeded Trevecca in a G-MAC quarterfinal match on Saturday. It was Miorelli’s second game winner of the season ands seventh of her career.
Marykate Bateman (Hatboro-Horsham) got the scoring going in La Salle’s 3-0 win over George Mason on Thursday. The Hatboro-Horsham graduate found the back of the net for the fifth time this season in the 20th minute. She also assisted a goal in the 41st minute that put La Salle ahead 3-0.
Haley Mangiaruga (North Penn) contributed an assist in West Chester’s 2-1 win over Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon. With the win, West Chester clinched the second seed heading into the PSAC Tournament.
Temple senior Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for week ending Oct. 26. Lafferty helped the Owls win their first game ever against SMU, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals in the 3-2 game.
Lafferty and senior Shannon Senour (Central Bucks South) put their names in the Temple record books. Lafferty is the owner of the top spot in most games played at Temple with 78 after starting every game in her career. She has 13 career goals, including a career-high seven this season. Senour is tied for fifth place in games played with 74. Temple will enter the American Athletic Conference Tournament as the sixth seed. The Owls will face #3 UCF on Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the American Digital Network.
Kristen Upton (Central Buck South) scored in the first half of McDaniel’s 3-2 overtime loss to Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Sarah McDonald (Pennsbury) had six saves in goal for the Green Terror, who had debuted at No. 25 earlier in the day in the NSCAA Divs. III coaches’ poll.
Freshman Michaela Finneyfrock (Council Rock North) assisted on a goal that turned out to be the game winner in St. Joseph’s 2-0 win over Massachusetts on Thursday. With the win, the Hawks clinched a berth in the A-10 Tournament.
Megan Gerhart (North Penn) recorded four saves in Virginia Wesleyan College’s 2-1 win over Bridgewater College on Saturday. With the win, the Marlins clinched a home playoff game. In Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to No. 12 Lynchburg, Gerhart recorded seven saves.

Nedwick scored the game’s lone goal in Gwynedd’s 1-0 win over Marywood. It was her first collegiate tally, and it stood up to be the eventual game winner for the Griffins.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Arcadia sophomore Jacob Schellinger (North Penn) tied for first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.46 in a dual meet with FDU Florham and Misericordia on Saturday. Schellinger placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.16 seconds and later placed third in the 100 freestyle at 52.44 seconds. He also was part of the 200 medley relay team that finished second with a time of 1:42.58. Arcadia defeated both FDU Florham and Misericordia.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Lebanon Valley senior Jan Ikeda (North Penn) earned the MAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week honor in her first week of eligibility. In her first outing of the season, Ikeda set the Susquehanna pool record in the 100-yard butterfly with a leg of 59.17 seconds at the Schweikert Relays. The senior also was part of three runner-up relay team performances in the 3×100 butterfly relay (3:20.37), 200 medley relay (1:58.58) and the 3×500 freestyle relay (6:20.41).
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Freshman Eryn Brady (Upper Merion) delivered 11 kills in 21 attempts and also had an assist and a block assist in York College’s 3-1 win over Southern Virginia University last Monday.
Freshman Candyce Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) had a match high 15 digs and tied her season high with six aces in Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Concordia on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-1 win over Wilmington on Thursday, Riley tied her season high with 30 digs. In Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday, Jaime Bonner (William Tennent) had five kills with an attack percentage of .455.
Cabrini senior Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) has been named Corvias Eastern College Athletic
Conference Division III South Region Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 25. Koenig directed the Blue and White to a 4-2 week, posting 226 assists and 51 digs. The senior tallied at least 32 assists in each of the six matches and recorded three double-doubles on the week. She also recorded her 4,000th career assist, becoming just the ninth active Division II student-athlete to reach the milestone. The senior also reached 1,000 assists for the season on Saturday, marking the second time in program history that a setter has hit the mark. Koenig also accomplished the feat in 2013.
Koenig paired 48 assists with 17 digs and a pair of service aces in Cabrini’s 3-2 loss to Muhlenberg in a tri-match on Saturday. Freshmen Ashley Shannon (Upper Merion) and Emily Shannon (Upper Merion) posted 10 and 15 digs, respectively. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Misericordia, Koenig tallied her second double-double of the day with 31 assists and 15 digs. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Notre Dame of Maryland University, Koenig directed the attack with 38 assists to go with three service aces. Cabrini (11-0) completed a perfect CSAC slate. The win also marked the team’s 37th consecutive CSAC win.
Freshman Maddi Richards (William Tennent) recorded 29 digs in Penn State Abington’s split in Saturday’s tri-match with the College of Staten Island and Bryn Mawr. In Friday’s 3-0 win over Cairn, Richards served up eight aces.
Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) had 10 kills in Eastern University’s 3-0 win over Lynchburg on Saturday.
Senior Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) had 11 kills, her 17th double-digit effort of the season, in Kutztown’s 3-0 win over Cheyney on Saturday. She moved into fourth place all-time in KU history with 1,074 career kills. She is 70 kills shy of tying Missy Klein for third on the career kills list at KU. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to West Chester, Stringer had 13 kills and three blocks, and freshman Niki Carpenter (Upper Merion) recorded four kills, four digs and a team-high five blocks.
