MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Damien Washington (Upper Moreland) had 15 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in Delaware Valley University’s 76-66 victory over Immaculata on Thursday.
Senior guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a team-high 17 points to go with five assists in Moravian’s 81-75 loss to No. 15 Johns Hopkins on Thursday.
Junior Tracy Simsick (Souderton) had a team-high 13 points and added four blocks in DeSales University’s 85-51 loss to Princeton University on Friday. Sophomore Mike Bealer (Souderton) had six points off the bench.
Evan Slone (Souderton) scored 10 points in Arcadia’s 85-79 loss at Salisbury on Saturday night.
Senior Zack Muredda (Pennridge) had six rebounds and five assists in Ursinus College’s 72-64 win over Roanoke on Friday.
Redshirt senior Anthony Lee (Abington) led the team with 21 points and also had five assists, five rebounds and three steals in Kutztown’s 74-72 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. In Friday’s 107-97 win over second-ranked West Liberty, Lee played all 40 minutes and netted a career-high 41 points. The Abington graduate added seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. His 41 points ranks third all-time in program history for most points in a game. Lee was also near perfect from the charity stripe, making 16 of his 17 free throws, tying a KU record for made free throws. Lee, who led Division II in three-point shooting last season at 51.6 percent, continued his hot shooting in the season-opener. He went 10-of-15 (67 percent) from the field and 5-of-7 (71 percent) from beyond the arc.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) hit four three-pointers for 12 points in the University of Michigan’s 88-40 win over St. Mary’s in its season opener on Friday night. The CB West grad connected on 4-of-7 shots and also had three rebounds, two assists and one steal. In the Wolverines’ 84-38 win over Findlay in an exhibition game, Munger paced the offense with 15 points, connecting on 6-of-10 shots. She also had five rebounds and three steals.
Irisa Ye (North Penn) shot 6-for-9 and scored nine of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter of No. 14 University of the Sciences 56-48 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday. The North Penn graduate also had eight rebounds as well as a game-high four assists. Huber came off the bench to score nine points on three three-pointers while Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) rounded out the scoring with six points to go along with six rebounds. Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) blocked two shots, her second straight game with multiple rejections. In Friday’s 60-51 victory over American International, Vitelli was a sparkplug in the second and third quarters, scoring all 12 of her points on a perfect 4-of-4 from 3-point range. Ye paced the Devils with 17 points, four rebounds and a game-high three assists. Ye’s total was one point shy of a career-high and came on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. The three assists tied a career-best, and the sophomore added a steal. Giuliani provided a big boost off the bench, recording a career-best three blocks as well as two assists, two rebounds and one point in 18 minutes.
Aigner Bookard (Cheltenham) scored 16 points in Cairn University’s 76-63 win over Bryn Mawr on Saturday.
Deja Rawls (Abington) contributed eight points, four rebounds and two steals in Siena’s 58-51 loss to the University of Penn on Saturday.
Junior Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) had nine points and seven rebounds in Ursinus College’s 80-28 win over Alvernia on Saturday.
Junior Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) led all scorers with a career-high 29 points in Jefferson University's 90-62 win over Queens to close out the East Region Conference Challege on Sunday. Williams shot 9-of-15 from the field, including 6-of-8 from three-point range. Her six threes also came as a career high. The junior converted 5-of-6 from the free throw line and added two rebounds and just one turnover. Senior Erin Maher (North Penn) scored eight with four boards and an assist. The win was the 750th of coach Tom Shirley's 39-year career. In Saturday's 61-56 win over Molloy, Williams had nine points on 4-of-9 shooting. Maher scored five points with eight rebounds, two steals and an assist. Maher (501) surpassed the 500 career points in the win.
Freshman guard Abbey Spratt (Central Bucks West) scored 13 points in Chestnut Hill’s 87-77 loss to Queens on Saturday. Forward Bri Hewlett (North Penn) added nine points.
Freshman Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed six points and three rebounds in Bucknell’s 70-32 win over Monmouth in Tuesday’s season opener.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Bucknell sophomore Connor McMenamin (Souderton) finished 89th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by Penn State on Friday.
Sophomore Dylan McKeever (Central Bucks East) was Gettysburg’s second runner to cross the finish line at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional hosted by DeSales University on Saturday, finishing 65th with a time of 27:39.
Ben Hoyer (Wissahickon) was Penn State Abington’s top runner at the NCAA Regional on Saturday, posting a time of 27:55 to finish 74th overall. Sophomore Dominic Pignatelli (Central Bucks South) finished with a time of 33:52, and David Hunt (William Tennent) finished in 38:09.
Freshman Sean Rahill (William Tennent) led Holy Family on the 8K course at the annual Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, finishing 17th overall in a time of 28:41.1. Sophomore MJ Powlowicz (Harry S Truman) recorded a time of 33:50.3 and finished 71st in his first conference championship.
Saint Joseph’s sophomore Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 33:19 to finish 98th at the 2018 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship hosted by Penn State on Friday.
Ursinus College junior Logan Mazullo (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 28:08 (93rd overall) at the NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by DeSales on Saturday.
Jefferson University’s Josh Skinner (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 30:11.9 to finish 37th of 88 at the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship.
Gwynedd Mercy’s Chris Laskowski (William Tennent) hit a personal best, clocking a time of 37:16.7 at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional hosted by DeSales on Saturday.
East Stroudsburg freshman Josh D’Agostino (Central Bucks South) finished eighth out of 24 runners with a time of 29:03.40 at Lock Haven’s Go Fast River Run meet on Saturday.
Chestnut Hill junior Aaron Morris (Springfield Township) placed 26th with a time of 29:15.7 at the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship meet.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Claire Reeves (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 33:13 for Penn State Abington at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday.
Ursinus College senior Riley Engel (Council Rock North) posted a time of 25:24 (a pace of 6:49 per mile) at the NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday. Freshman Amanda Choi (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished in 28:32.
Shippensburg seniors Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) and Lindsey Gerlach (Central Bucks West) had All-PSAC second team finishes at the 2018 PSAC Championship last Saturday. Kinkead was 21st in 24:55 while Gerlach closed strong and was just two spots behind with a time of 25:08. Maria Antoni (Upper Moreland) finished 35th in 25:44.
Kutztown senior Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) helped lead KU to a sixth place finish at the PSAC Championships on Saturday at Edinboro University. The North Penn graduate placed 13th at a time of 24:35 to earn All-PSAC first team honors. It is the third straight first team recognition for Bresadola.
Tara McLaughlin (North Penn) was the third West Chester runner to cross the finish line at the PSAC Cross Country Championships. The North Penn graduate finished 33rd overall.
FIELD HOCKEY
West Chester University senior goalkeeper Marissa Elizardo (North Penn) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Defensive Field Hockey Player of the Month for the month of October. It is the North Penn graduate’s second consecutive ECAC Defensive Player of the Month award. Elizardo allowed only seven goals during October, amassing a .833 save percentage. She recorded a record of 8-1-0 including five shutouts. Elizardo posted a season-high eight stops twice, against Millersville on Oct. 3 and Mansfield on Oct. 27. Due to Elizardo’s goalkeeping, the Golden Rams boast an overall record of 14-2 as they headed into November.
Elizardo made two saves in top-ranked West Chester’s 5-1 win over IUP on Saturday to clinch at least a share of the PSAC regular season title. In West Chester’s 1-0 win over No. 1 East Stroudsburg, Elizardo made two solid saves.
Freshman Riley Donnelly (Central Bucks East) is a mainstay on defense for a second-ranked University of Maryland squad that defeated No. 5 UConn 2-1 in overtime on Sunday. Freshman Taylor Mason (Central Bucks West) also saw action. With the win, the Terrapins advance to the Final Four next weekend in Louisville. Maryland will face third-seeded Princeton in the NCAA semifinal on Friday at 3:45 p.m. This is Maryland’s 24th straight NCAA Tournament appearance – the longest active streak in the country. Sophomore Bryn Boylan (Central Bucks West) is a member of the top-ranked University of North Carolina Tarheels, who also will be competing in the Final Four. UNC defeated No. 8 Michigan 5-2 to earn a spot in the Final Four for the 10th year in a row and 23rd time in program history. The Tarheels will take on Wake Forest in a semifinal game on Friday at 1 p.m.
Villanova sophomore Christen Pennington (Neshaminy) was named to the All-BIG EAST second team. The Neshaminy graduate finished the season with four goals and one assist for nine points. Pennington was a huge defensive factor for the Wildcats and was the season long inserter for corners. In the team’s 2-1 victory over Longwood, she netted the game-winner in overtime, and in a 5-2 win over Georgetown, she scored a pair of goals.
Pennington had a defensive save in Villanova’s 9-1 loss to the University of Connecticut in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals last Saturday.
Senior Jules Singer (Council Rock North) recorded eight saves to wrap up an outstanding career in Ursinus College’s 1-0 loss to No. 11 Johns Hopkins in the Centennial Conference semifinals last Saturday. Singer made a diving save in the seventh minute, and the senior made another sprawling save in the first half. In a wild sequence after a penalty corner, Singer stood on her head with a pad save and a high stick stop.
Junior Becky Gerhart (Quakertown) made two defensive saves in Temple’s 3-2 overtime loss to Saint Francis.
Senior Jackie Shragher (Council Rock South) contributed an assist for her first point of the season in Bloomsburg’s 5-1 win over Seton Hill.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Maggie Walsh (Central Bucks South) was named to the 2018 Atlantic East All-Conference first team. Walsh started all 19 games this season on defense. She had a goal and two helpers and was part of a defense that did not allow a goal in five conference games with overall goals-against average at 0.95. Giving up just a total of 18 goals this season, Gwynedd Mercy’s defense only needed its goalkeeper to make a total of 48 saves. Ten of the Griffins’ 13 wins this season came in a shutout, ranking the team in a tie for fourth in Division III.
FOOTBALL
Sophomore quarterback Reese Udinski (North Penn) set the school single-season record for yards and tied the program’s top mark for touchdowns in VMI’s 49-13 loss to Furman University on Saturday. The North Penn graduate now has 2,988 yards, passing Al Cobb’s 2,971 in 2014. He tied Cobb’s mark in 2014 with 20 touchdowns this year. Udinski already owns the program mark for most completions in a single season. He also set the school total plays record in a season with 570 plays and is second for most yards of total offense. He has 2,817 yards and needs 279 to break the record against Old Dominion University next Saturday. In last Saturday’s 20-11 win over Tusculum College, Udinski threw 17 pass completions to make his season total of 271, surpassing the previous mark of 269 set by Al Cobb in 2014. He finished the game 17-for-32 for 172 yards and a touchdown. Udinski also had a rushing TD.
Malcolm Carey (Bensalem) led the offense with a career-high 252 yards and two touchdowns on 46 carries in Alvernia’s 42-27 loss to the University of New England on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 55-7 loss to Lebanon Valley, Carey scored his 10th touchdown of the season and finished with 143 rushing yards to move into second place in the MAC.
Senior running back Mike Class (Pennridge) rushed 43 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and then caught a 17-yard touchdown pass with 36 seconds left in the first half in No. 10 West Chester’s 33-10 win over Slippery Rock in Saturday’s PSAC Championship game. In last Saturday’s 48-14 win over Lock Haven, Class rushed for 71 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.
Armon Jefferson (Abington) had seven tackles and Malik Bootman (Upper Dublin) rushed for 65 yards in Albright’s 30-24 loss in double overtime to Lebanon Valley on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 39-29 loss to Misericordia, Bootman got his first collegiate start and ran for 148 yards on 22 carries. The 148 yards on the ground was the most by any Lions’ running back since the 2014 season.
Senior Alec Vera (Quakertown) had four receptions, including his first career touchdown, for 56 yards in Ursinus College’s 31-0 win over Dickinson on Saturday. Quarterback Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) finished 8-of-20 for 118 yards and two touchdowns, moving to sixth in school history with 31. In last Saturday’s 27-24 win over Franklin & Marshall, Garlick became the all-time leader in passing yards, throwing for 303 yards and surpassing Chris Curran (’13) for the top spot in program history with 5,716. Garlick finished the game 20-of-41 for 303 yards.
Redshirt senior John Durkin (Central Bucks West) had 1.5 sacks in Shippensburg’s 45-21 win at IUP on Saturday.
Branden Mack (Cheltenham) recovered a blocked punt that led to a touchdown in Temple’s 59-49 win over Houston on Saturday. He also had a pair of receptions for 72 yards. In Temple’s 52-40 loss to No. 9 UCF, Mack had five receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown.
Craig Reynolds (Abington) broke the school record with his 34th career rushing touchdown in Kutztown’s 33-32 win over Edinboro on Saturday, breaking the previous record of 33 by KU all-time team member Don Shaver in 1980. Reynolds ran the ball a career-high 32 times, the most carries by a KU back since 2004 and the eighth most in a game in school history for 71 yards and the record-breaking score. He moved into fourth in school history with 2,591 career rushing yards. Senior Alec Rosenfeld (Bensalem) kicked the PAT that won the game. In last Saturday’s 62-10 win at Millersville, Reynolds rushed for two touchdowns and ended the night with 78 yards on 12 carries. Reynolds now has 2,520 career rushing yards and climbed into the top five in career rushing yards. Adam Krauter (Springfield Township) added one sack.
Vince Char (William Tennent) led the team with eight tackles, five solo tackles, in Widener’s 21-17 loss to FDU-Florham last Friday. Mitchell Vierling (William Tennent) completed 52 percent of his passes for 189 yards.
Michael Marino (Wissahickon) passed for 78 yards in Chestnut Hill’s 26-6 win over Caldwell last Saturday.
MEN’S GOLF
Temple sophomore Dawson Anders (Souderton) shot an 81 to tie for 11th overall at the City 6 Championship on Saturday. The Owls won the team title.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Penn State senior Jackie Rogowicz (Pennsbury) used a 4-over-76 in the final round to finish 16-over at the Landfall Tradition.
MEN’S SOCCER
Elizabethtown senior defender Danny Sullivan (Souderton) was named to the 2018 Landmark Conference second team. In addition to his defensive responsibilities, Sullivan has been a set piece asset. His corner kick in the 63rd minute directly led to the game-winning goal in the Landmark Championship game – a 1-0 win over Catholic. Sullivan has two assists on the season and is another veteran that solidifies the Blue Jays’ backline.
Sullivan’s insert from the right corner set up the tying goal in Elizabethtown’s 2-1 win over Williams in an NCAA Division III Championship first round game on Saturday night.
Penn State Abington sophomore Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin) was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Player of the Year. With back-to-back NEAC First Team selections, Palomoque earned the award after netting eight goals while leading the NEAC with eight assists. The sophomore helped the NIttany Lions finish with a 2.83 goals for average, which was second in the NEAC.
Penn State Abington sophomore Sebastian Krysztofowicz (Central Bucks East) earned North Eastern Athletic Conference first team honors. The sophomore midfielder earned six goals from the midfield, including a critical goal against Keuka College that helped the Nittany Lions remain undefeated in the conference for the second straight year.
Penn State Abington sophomore Michael Albers (William Tennent) was named to the NEAC second team all-conference for his stellar defending this season. Albers made the shift to center back this season and didn’t miss a beat. He played a clean season and did not enter the book for a card.
Penn State Abington senior Sean Seidenburg (Abington) earned NEAC third team honors. The senior helped solidify the stingy back line while chipping in two goals and one assist for the season.
Krysztofowicz scored on the rebound after a goalie save and Palomeque converted a penalty kick in Penn State Abington’s 2-1 win over Lancaster Bible in the NEAC championship game last Sunday. Palomeque was named the 2018 NEAC Tournament MVP for his outstanding performance with two goals and one assist. In the Nittany Lions’ 3-2 win over SUNY Cobleskill in a NEAC semifinal game, Seidenburg scored with an assist from Palomeque.
Shippensburg senior Cole Kropnick (Wissahickon) was named to the All-PSAC first team. The Wissahickon graduate finished the regular season tied for the conference’s lead in goals with 11 despite playing in just 13 matches. His 26 points (11 goals, four assists) paced the PSAC this season. He produced three game-winning goals and began his season with at least one goal in nine of his first 10 matches. Kropnick’s 11 goals are also the most in a single season since Derrick Roy had the same amount in 2013. Since 2010, only two previous SU players had ever been awarded first team accolades.
Daniel Grindrod (Neshaminy) connected on a penalty kick that knotted the score 2-2 in a shootout in West Chester’s PSAC Championship game against Millersville last Sunday. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie after regulation and overtime. In West Chester’s 1-0 win over East Stroudsburg in the PSAC semifinal game, Brett Miller (Council Rock North) had an assist on the game-winner
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Kevin Bowers (Council Rock South) was named to the 2018 Atlantic East All-Conference second team. Bowers started all 18 games, leading the team with five goals and 10 points. He notched two goals, a career-high, against Bryn Athyn on Sept. 19. Bowers also converted on both of his penalty kicks this season. This is his first all-league accolade.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cabrini junior Katelyn Gilinger (Springfield Township) was named to the All-Atlantic East second team. Recognized for the first time as an all-conference performer, Gilinger led the Cavaliers with 13 points, thanks to four goals and five assists. Her 29 shots, 18 shots on goal, and three game-winning goals also led the Blue and White. The speedy forward started 15 of the Cavaliers’ 16 games.
Gilinger recorded an assist in Cabrini’s 3-1 loss to fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins in Saturday’s NCAA opening round game.
Marissa Sheva (Pennridge) scored a goal in No. 14 Penn State's 4-1 win over Bowling Green in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. It was her third goal of the season and came on a set piece in the 65th minute.
Washington and Lee senior Megan Engeland (Pennsbury) was named to the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic
Conference first team. It was the Pennsbury’s graduate second first team honor and third all-conference award overall after posting 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points on the season. Her 10 goals marked her third straight season with double-digit goals as she ranked fifth in the ODAC in goals and tied for fourth in assists. Her season was highlighted by a hat trick in a 4-2 win at Shenandoah on Oct. 5, followed by her first career multi-assist game in a 3-0 win over Eastern Mennonite on Oct. 27. Engeland finished her career with 37 goals, tied for sixth most in program history, and 84 points, good for eighth most.
Engeland scored a goal in Washington and Lee’s 2-1 double overtime loss to No. 20 Lynchburg in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship.
Senior captain Alyssa Ryan (Wissahickon), who led the team with four shots on goal, connected on her penalty kick as the first kicker in the best-of-five shootout in Kutztown’s 4-1 loss in PKs to Virginia Wesleyan after the two teams battled to a scoreless tie after 110 minutes in a NCAA Atlantic Regional first round match on Friday.
Holy Family senior Bree Rock (Bensalem) was named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)
second team. Rock is earning All-CACC honors for the third straight year after putting together another career season. The two-time CACC Player of the Year ranks seventh in NCAA Division II in total goals with 18 and is ninth among the national leaders in total points with 41. Rock ranks second in the East Region in both categories. Her 41 points this season tied her career-high set last year, and her 18 goals are a new career mark. During the course of the season, Rock recorded three hat tricks and accounted for eight game-winning goals. In 73 career games, Rock has totaled 121 points on 51 goals and 19 assists. She ranks fourth in program history in points and goals. In the program’s NCAA Division II era, established in 2003, Rock is the all-time leader in both goals and points.
Holy Family fell to Caldwell in the CACC championship game last Sunday. Rock and freshman Jacqueline Ziegler (Neshaminy) were named to the CACC All-Tournament team. In Holy Family’s 2-1 win over Goldey-Beacom in the CACC semifinal, Ziegler gave the Tigers the early lead when she connected on her eighth goal of the season in the 17th minute. Rock assisted on the play. In Holy Family’s 2-1 CACC quarterfinal win over Wilmington, Ziegler scored her seventh goal of the season in the 18th minute, beating the keeper in a two-on-one. Rock scored her 18th goal of the season in the 52nd minute.
Kutztown junior Kristina Miller (North Penn) was recognized on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida) 2018 Academic All-District First Team. The Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams recognize student athletes for athletic and academic achievements and nominated and voted on by members of CoSIDA. It is the first Academic All-District honor for Miller. A junior captain, Miller holds a 3.98 GPA in business administration and political science. The defender was voted an All-PSAC first teamer and has started all 19 games this season and each of the last 40 games within the last two seasons in the center of the KU defense. She has scored a career-high three goals. The North Penn graduate is the rock of a KU defense that has allowed just nine goals this season, which would rank as the least in a season in program history with at least one more game to be played. Miller is now eligible for Academic All-American consideration.
Mikaela Malofiy (Hatboro-Horsham) had an assist in Widener’s 3-0 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday in an ECAC first round match. In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Juniata in a first round match, Victoria Byrne (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished with five saves.
Saint Joseph’s senior Michaela Finneyfrock (Council Rock North) was named to the Atlantic-10 All-Conference first team. An unheralded leader in the midfield, Finneyfrock earns her first A-10 All-Conference honor after helping the Hawks secure the third seed for the A-10 Championship and tallying three goals and a pair of assists for eight points. She played in 82 straight game and helped lead the Hawks to four straight A-10 Championship appearances, including the 2016 A-10 regular season title. She will cap her career among SJU’s top 15 in career points.
Saint Joseph’s senior Grace Bendon (Central Bucks West) was named to the A-10 All-Conference second team. Playing every minute in goal for SJU this season, Bendon set new single-season marks for victories (14) and goals-against average (0.73) in a Hawk uniform. Ranked second in both those categories along with save percentage (.815), the two-time A-10 Defensive Player of the Week has also set a new program record for wins (32) and matched the record for career shutouts (16) while ascending to second all-time in goals-against average (1.22).
Saint Joseph’s freshmen Mackenzie Ehresman (Central Bucks South) and Aleksa Peev (Central Bucks South) were named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team. Ehresman is the lone Hawk rookie to start all 20 games this year. Helping to solidify the Hawks’ defense that has helped post eight shutouts and a 0.73 goals-against average, Ehresman has also recorded two goals and two assists for six points. Ranking fourth on SJU in goals (four) and leading all newcomers in points (nine), Peev has been a key contributor to the team’s success during her rookie campaign. Appearing in all 20 games with nine starts, Peev’s 34 shots are currently third most on the squad.
Ehresman contributed an assist in St. Joseph’s 2-1 loss to second seed VCU in the semifinals of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship last Friday. Finneyfrock capped her career in SJU’s top 15 in career points (33) with Jessica Volm (Central Bucks South) helping the class to a combined 56 victories over the last four years.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Kailey Hopkins (William Tennent) was named to the Atlantic East first team. The
senior goalie led the league in goals-against average (1.12 GAA) and was second in save percentage (.840) and tied for second in shutouts with four. She started all 17 games in net for the Griffins totaling 105 saves and allowing a league low 20 goals in over 1600 minutes of action. This is the third all-conference honor for Hopkins as she was a second team pick in 2016 and a first team selection in 2017 by the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Jesse Magee (Council Rock South) buried her penalty kick in West Chester’s 4-3 loss in PKs to Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday after the two teams battled to a scoreless tie after 110 minutes.
West Chester senior Nikki Caffey (Council Rock South) was named to the District Two All-Academic team for Division II. Caffey is a senior majoring in Early Grades Prep/Special Education with an impressive 3.99 GPA. On the field, Caffey has a pair of goals to her credit this season for a total of four points on the year. Caffey is also an integral member of the Golden Rams defense as she has helped to hold opponents to just 0.68 goals per game and 9.4 shots per game in 2018. Caffey is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
West Chester senior Linzi Wolfe (Quakertown) was named to the All-PSAC third team. The Quakertown graduate was a force as she started in all 18 games. She scored three goals and added four assists for a total of 10 points, which places Wolfe third on the team’s scoring leaderboard. Wolfe’s biggest goal of the season came in West Chester’s 1-0 victory over then No. 11 Kutztown in the last week of September.
McKenna Mullin (Neshaminy) made six saves to keep the conference leading scorer Marah Foltz off the scoreboard in West Chester’s 2-0 win over Lock Haven in the PSAC quarterfinals. In West Chester’s 4-0 win over IUP, Hannah Zach (Central Bucks East) scored her second goal in as many games, putting in her own rebound after the IUP goalie made a great save to stop her initial shot. Mullin made six saves to keep the explosive IUP offense off the scoreboard.
Junior Jessica Milligan (Pennridge) scored the game-tying goal in Bloomsburg’s 2-1 overtime victory over East Stroudsburg to claim the program’s first PSAC title since 2002. In the Huskies’ 1-0 victory over Edinboro, freshman Kate Schlotter (Central Bucks East) earned her first collegiate assist.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Senior Tyler Chamberlin (Springfield Township) finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:23.72 in Albright’s 163.5-86.5 victory over Cabrini last Saturday. He was also part of the winning 200 medley relay that finished in a time of 1:44.01. Chamberlin placed second in the 50 free with a time of 23.75. In Albright’s 152-110 win over Widener, Chamberlin won the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.00 and was part of the 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:39.48. He also nabbed second place in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.27.
Junior Ogden Leyens (Upper Dublin) was part of the winning 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:28.86 in an exhibition race in Gettysburg’s 154-105 win over Washington College last Saturday.
Ryan Hartman (North Penn) finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.94 in IUP’s 136-69 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 129-69 win over Saint Vincent, Hartman won the 50 free with a time of 22.54.
Ridge Hagar (North Penn) won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.63 and helped Messiah win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.51 in Messiah’s double-dual meet with Widener and Hood. He also finished second in the 100 free (54.22) and was part of the second place 400 freestyle relay (3:18.13). In last Saturday’s dual meet with Susquehanna and Gettysburg, Hagar finished third in the 100 back (55.48) and the 200 back (2:03.81).
Senior Max Coulter (Pennridge) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.47 in Ursinus College’s 139-41 win over McDaniel on Saturday.
Junior Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a PSAC qualifying time of 9:55.17 and also captured first in the 500 free with a PSAC qualifying time of 4:46.73 in Shippensburg’s 110-83 win over Clarion. Beyer also was part of the first place 200 free relay (1:26.79).
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Rachel Samson (Council Rock North) was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay in Arcadia’s 168-94 win over Albright on Saturday. Samson won the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 1:03.70. She also finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.60) and 100 freestyle (2:26.22).
Stephanie Chell (Central Bucks East) was part of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:52.11) in Ursinus College’s 130-43 win over McDaniel on Saturday.
Freshman Olivia Guthy (Cheltenham) won the 500 free with a PSAC qualifying time of 5:26.04 and was second in the 1000 free (11:16.58) in Shippensburg’s 112-93 win over Clarion. She also was part of the third place 200 free relay (1:47.81).
La Salle freshman Phoebe Shaya (Council Rock South) captured 18 points for the team with a pair of wins in diving events in a dual meet against Penn on Wednesday. Shaya scored 282.08 to win the 1-meter competition. She also won the 3-meter diving event. In the Atlantic 10 Classic, Shaya took the 1-meter crown and finished second in the 3-meter. Senior Olivia DiStefano (North Penn) won the 100 backstroke.
Sammy Grogan (Council Rock North) won both the breaststroke events, finishing the 100 in 1:12.54 and the 200 in 2:36.96 in Widener’s 232-21 victory against Immaculata on Saturday. In Widener’s double dual home meet that saw the Pride down Hood 185-69 and falling to Messiah 158-103, Grogan claimed the top spot in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:35.6.
Alison McLaughlin (North Penn) finished first in the 100 free (56.86) and sixth in the 50 free (26.63) in Kutztown’s PSAC tri-match last Saturday. She was part of the second place 400 medley relay (4:17.93).
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Cabrini sophomore Steph Judkins (Pennridge) was named the Atlantic East Conference Co-Player of the Year.
The sophomore standout was also named to the Division III All-East Region Team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Offensive Player of the Month for October. Judkins posted a monster season for the Cavaliers, pairing a program record 505 kills and 307 digs with 15 double-doubles. Judkins scored at least 10 kills in 29 of the Cavaliers’ 32 matches, including 18 outings with more than 17 kills. She also recorded at least 10 digs on 16 occasions. The sophomore also ranks in the nation’s top 10 in five statistical categories. Judkins’ 505 kills rank third in Division III and six among players in Divisions I, II and III. She also ranks fourth in kills per set (4.63), seventh in points per set (7.0), ninth in total attacks (1,325) and 10th in attacks per set (12.16). This is the second AVCA all-region honor for Judkins in as many years as the organization’s Mid-Atlantic Region and National Freshman of the Year in 2017. The ECAC also named Judkins its Offensive Player of the Month for September.
Freshman Hannah Dalton (Abington) had nine kills in Cabrini’s season-ending 3-1 loss to New York University in the 2018 ECAC Division III Volleyball Tournament on Sunday. In Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Neumann in a quarterfinal match, Dalton had nine kills. In last Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Marymount in the championship match of the Atlantic East Conference Tournament, Judkins had 23 kills and 18 digs and became the first player in program history to amass 500 kills in a single season. Dalton chipped in with six kills, six blocks and four service aces. In Cabrini’s 3-1 victory over Marywood, Judkins led the Blue and White with 17 kills and 17 digs, marking her 15th double-double of the season. Dalton stuffed the stat sheet with seven kills, four aces, four digs and two blocks.
Freshman Bryn Stek (Upper Dublin) finished with 32 assists in Bloomsburg’s 3-0 loss to Shippensburg last Saturday. In the Huskies’ 3-0 loss to Pitt-Johnstown, Stek posted 23 assists. In the Huskies’ 3-2 win at Lock Haven, Stek set a new Bloomsburg season high with 49 assists while also chipping in six kills, eight digs and two service aces.
Senior Jaime Bonner (William Tennent) had 12 kills and two solo blocks in Holy Family University’s 3-2 win over Felician in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinals on Tuesday. In Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom to clinch the CACC regular season title, Bonner had nine kills.
Holly Owen (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a combined 32 kills in Kutztown’s tri-match against West Chester and Virginia State last Saturday. KU fell to West Chester 3-2 before sweeping VSU. In KU’s 3-0 loss to Millersville, Owen totaled 10 kills and an efficient .360 hitting percentage on the outside. In Kutztown’s 3-2 loss to East Stroudsburg, Owen posted 22 kills and four blocks.
WRESTLING
Gettysburg junior Colin Devlin (Upper Dublin) was named the Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Week for
the week ending Nov. 4 following his first individual championship at the Messiah College Invitational. One of four Gettysburg wrestlers to earn titles, Devlin’s run was among the most impressive with four pins in as many matches at 149 pounds. He took down foes from Messiah, Liberty University and Elizabethtown College with his first and third pins coming in the first round. He threw Charles Hudson from Liberty with five seconds left in their bout. Devlin faced off with Messiah’s Stephen Maloney in the championship bout and despite a 0-3 career record against the 2018 Middle Atlantic Conference champ, the Gettysburg junior came out on top with a second-period fall. Powered by four individual titles, Gettysburg claimed its first team championship in over four decades at the Messiah Invitational.
Devlin picked up his second individual title at 149 pounds with four dominant wins at Saturday’s Gettysburg Invitational. The Upper Dublin graduate did not surrender a single point in three of his four bouts. He opened with a 9-0 major decision and picked up an 11-6 victory over Jesse Walker from Penn College. The junior cruised through the semifinals with a 7-0 win before taking down teammate Phil Angelo 6-0 in the championship match. Gettysburg won its second consecutive tournament, racking up 114 points to beat our Wilkes University, which finished with 107.5 points.
