MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Shippensburg sophomore Alex Balla (Quakertown) stepped up with a huge top-five finish, placing fifth
overall and second of four SU runners to break 31 minutes over 10,000 meters at the 2015 NCAA Atlantic Region Championships hosted by Lock Haven on Saturday. Balla posted a time of 30:38 and was the fastest sophomore in the race by eight seconds. The Quakertown alum posted a personal best for the distance and earned All-Region honors. Shippensburg won the team title and has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships for the third straight year. The national championships will be held in two weeks at Missouri Southern State University.
Bloomsburg’s Tim Silverthorn (Council Rock South) posted a time of 36:11 at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships at Lock Haven on Saturday.
Conner Quinn (Hatboro-Horsham) posted time of 24:22.3 at the Big Ten Championships last Sunday. Penn State finished in sixth place overall.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Kutztown freshman Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) finished in 39th place with a time of 22:29 at the NCAA Atlantic Regional held at Lock Haven University. KU finished ninth overall out of 23 teams.
Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) finished second overall at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Cross
Country Championships to earn a trip to the NCAA national championships. Dodds started the 6K race and ran in a pack in the early going before pulling away and opening a 15-meter lead at about the two-mile mark. Then Edinboro’s Ida Narbuvoll closed the gap, and the two runners battled with each other over the second half of the race. In the end, the Edinboro runner pulled away and finished with a time of 20:32, winning by nine seconds over Dodds in 20:41. The second place finish earned Dodds All-Region honors and guaranteed her a trip to the NCAA national championships on Nov. 21. Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) finished 34th with a time of 22:26.
Shippensburg freshman Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 22:55 at the 2015 NCAA Atlantic Region Championships at Lock Haven University on Saturday. The Raiders finished third as a team and will compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Elizabethtown junior Liz Wedekind (Pennsbury) finished 13th at the Landmark Conference Championships, earning second team All-Landmark honors.
FIELD HOCKEY
Providence sophomore forward Megan Hamilton (Central Bucks South) was named to the All-BIG EAST second team. It was her second consecutive appearance on the second team, having also earned the honor during her rookie campaign in 2014. She finished third among her teammates in scoring this season with 10 points on four goals and two assists. She tallied a season best four points on two goals in the Friars’ 4-1 victory over Georgetown. In 38 career games, Hamilton has amassed 46 points on 19 goals and eight assists. She is in a tie for 31st all-time in career scoring (46 points) and is tied for 26th all-time in career goals.

Kutztown’s Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned third team All-PSAC honors. The sophomore midfielder was third on the team with four assists and two goals. The All-PSAC honor is the second of her career after being named to the second team in 2014.
Senior forward Alayna Brown (Souderton) recorded her second goal of the season in West Chester’s 3-2 loss to East Stroudsburg in a PSAC semifinal game on Friday. In Tuesday’s 6-1 win over host Kutztown in a PSAC quarterfinal round match, Brown scored four minutes into the contest.
Bloomsburg junior Alexis Carroll (Council Rock South) received third team All-PSAC honors. The CR South graduate was part of a Huskies’ defense that limited opponents to just 26 goals scored for the year. Late in the year, Carroll helped the Huskies to two key road wins over IUP and Mercyhurst, both shutouts that helped Bloomsburg reach the PSAC playoffs.

Lock Haven senior Rachel Valentine (Souderton) earned a spot on the 2015 All-Atlantic 10 Conference second team. The Souderton graduate, who was the team’s leading scorer, was also named to the All-Academic Team, thanks to her efforts on the field and in the classroom.
Sophomore Emma Rosenthal (Central Bucks East) made four saves and stopped two breakaways by coming far off her line to slide the ball away in Muhlenberg’s 1-0 loss to Dickinson in the opening round of the Centennial playoffs on Wednesday.
Lehigh junior Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) earned a spot on the All-Patriot League second team. Glatt scored three goals, including the game’s first goal in Lehigh’s 2-1 overtime win at Colgate that helped propel the Mountain Hawks to two straight Patriot League victories to close out the season. Glatt led the Mountain Hawks in shots with 50 and shots on goal with 33.
Delaware Valley University sophomore Carlie Baldus (Hatboro-Horsham) received All-Middle Atlantic Conference second team honors. It is the first all-conference nod for the Hatboro-Horsham graduate, who started all 18 games and ranked second on the squad in goals (seven) and points (18) and third in assists (four). She recorded two goals in a 3-0 win against Elmira and tallied a goal and an assist in matches with Widener and King’s. Baldus had the game-winning markers against Widener and DeSales.
Albright sophomore Cassidy Barrow (North Penn) was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth second team. The North Penn graduate is one of the pieces that coach Sarah Brant will be able to build the defense around in the next two seasons. She helped lead an Albright defense that surrendered just 2.71 goals per game. She also posted an assist in the Lions’ 6-1 win over Keystone.
Messiah freshman goalie Shelby Landes (Souderton) earned All-MAC Commonwealth second team honors. The rookie goalie allowed 1.07 goals per game and collected three shutouts on the season. With 49 saves on the year, Landes is saving 72.1 percent of the shots she faced this season.
Kristin Donohue (Council Rock South) was credited with an assist in Messiah’s 5-2 win over Albright in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals on Wednesday.
Goalie Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) was credited with 10 saves in The College of New Jersey’s 3-2 win over Rowan University on Saturday to claim the 2015 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win over William Patterson, Schlupp recorded two saves. The win was the 40th of her career.
Lebanon Valley sophomore Rachel Gorman (Central Bucks South) earned All-MAC Commonwealth second team honors. She broke out during her sophomore year as one of the team’s defensive anchors. She netted one game-winning goal, a clutch penalty stroke in a 3-2 win over FDU-Florham and added two assists to record four total points. A weapon as the team’s top penalty corner striker, Gorman was named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week in early October.
Villanova senior Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) earned a spot on the All-BIG
EAST second team. A senior captain, Kenney finished the season with five goals and five assists for 15 points. At the end of the 2014 season, Kenney was named to the All-BIG East first team and at the start of this season was named to the BIG EAST Preseason Team. “She is such a talented player with amazing ball control,” coach Joanie Milhous said. “She has had a great career at Villanova, and we are really going to miss her next year.” During her career at Villanova, Kenney had 22 assists which ties her for ninth overall in program history.
Widener junior Dana Adamson (Central Bucks South) was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth second team. A tri-captain, Adamson earned postseason recognition for the second straight year after earning honorable mention in 2014. She anchored a back line that shut out four opponents and allowed one goal or less in five contests she appeared in. Offensively, Adamson recorded two goals and four assists for eight points. The junior had two helpers to fuel Pride victories over Immaculata and Hood.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Maggie Walsh (Central Bucks South) was selected the CSAC Field Hockey
Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1. The CB South graduate helped spearhead a defense that allowed just two goals (one via penalty stroke) in two wins the preceding week to help the Griffins finish undefeated in their CSAC slate. She also added an assist in the Griffins’ 3-1 win over Delaware Valley in their regular season finale. On the season, Walsh has started all 17 games on defense while adding two goals and four assists on the offensive side. The freshman defender also received All-CSAC honorable mention.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) was named the 2015 CSAC Defensive Player of the Year. This is the first year that the CSAC has honored a defensive play of the year in field hockey. Now a three-time first team All-CSAC standout, O’Neill and the Griffins surrendered just three goals in seven CSAC contests en route to a perfect 7-0 regular season. A starter in all 17 games, O’Neill, nicknamed ‘Luna,’ is a scoring threat as well, accumulating nine goals, including a pair of game winners, along with 16 assists for 34 points on the year. Her 16 helpers rank her second in all of Division III.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Madison Reiss (Pennridge) was named to the 2015 All-CSAC second team. The Pennridge graduate started all 17 games on defense for the Griffins, who held CSAC opponents to a 0.68 goals-against average in seven games.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Abigail Gabriel (Souderton) earned 2015 All-CSAC honorable mention recognition. The sophomore midfielder scored eight goals on the season, seven came in CSAC action.
Freshman Kaitlyn Lutz (Upper Merion) assisted on a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 loss to Cabrini in Saturday’s CSAC Championship game. In Wednesday’s 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Keystone, O’Neill and Walsh each contributed a goal and an assist.
Senior Kiera McGovern (Council Rock South) scored the tying goal in Catholic University's 2-1 win over top-seeded Elizabethtown in the Landmark Conference championship game on Saturday. The title was the fourth in five years for Catholic University.
Drexel freshman Katie Bagdon (Council Rock South) was named to the 2015 CAA All-Rookie Team. The CR South graduate started all 18 games for Drexel so far this season, helping to anchor the defensive back line. Bagdon boasts strong tackling skills and has been able to thwart some of the conference’s top forwards during CAA play this year. She also developed offensively, contributing one goal and one assist.
Freshman Ashley Laskowitz (Wissahickon) scored a goal in Miami University’s 3-2 double overtime loss to Kent State on Saturday in the MAC Tournament Championship game.
FOOTBALL
Freshman Josh Adams (Central Bucks South) ran for 147 yards and hauled in a touchdown pass in No. 8 Notre Dame’s 42-30 win over Pitt on Saturday. The CB South starred while filling in after senior CJ Prosise left in the first quarter with an injury. Adams averaged 7.3 yards per carry and earned the game ball on the same day his quarterback had a hand in all six scores.
Senior defensive end Andrew Cohen (Council Rock South) recorded one sack to up his career total to 30.5 in West Chester’s 41-27 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. The CR South alum is chasing the PSAC all-time record of 33.0 held by Clarion’s Julian Howsare from 2011-14. He finished the game with five tackles, which also included one tackle for a loss. Ralph Reeves (North Penn) also had five tackles, and Shannon Mayer (Norristown) had one reception for 16 yards. Saturday’s win clinched the PSAC Eastern Division title for the Golden Rams.
Junior Alex Krivda (Pennridge) passed for 406 yards and broke two school and conference records to lead
Widener to a 50-20 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday. The Pennridge graduate racked up 406 yards in the air by completing 45-of-72 pass attempts. He broke single game school and conference standards for passes completed and attempted, bettering Seth Klein’s 40 completions against Lebanon Valley in 2013 and Mike Lomas’ 67 throws versus Lycoming in 2003.
Senior wide receiver Gerard Wendowski (North Penn) had five catches for 58 yards in East Stroudsburg’s 41-27 loss to West Chester on Saturday.
Matt Johns (Central Bucks South) completed 29-of-42 passes for 280 yards in Virginia’s 27-21 loss to Miami on Saturday.
Senior kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) converted on field goals of 25, 34 and 40 yards in Ursinus College’s 10-9 loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday.
Kenny Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a pass breakup and five tackles in Kutztown’s 51-27 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. Craig Reynolds (Abington) had four catches for 34 yards.
Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) had eight receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown in Shippensburg’s 51-27 loss to Kutztown on Saturday.
MEN’S SOCCER
Austin Transue (Neshaminy) scored two goals, including the game winner with six minutes left in the second overtime, to lift Bloomsburg to a 2-1 double overtime win over Lock Haven in the quarterfinals of the 2015 PSAC playoffs. Transue has 13 goals scored this season, moving into ninth on the school’s single season goal scoring list.
Marywood University sophomore forward Dylan McMahon (North Penn) was named to the Honorable Mention All-CSAC squad. It is the second time in two seasons he has received this honor. McMahon finished with two goals and an assist for five points. Both of his goals came in non-conference losses against Eastern and Lebanon Valley – the only time the Pacers found the net in each of those contests.
Freshman Kevin McKenna (North Penn) notched the game-winning goal in the 107th minute in Widener’s 3-2 double overtime victory over Arcadia in a play-in game of the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament on Monday. McKenna put home a cross to send the Pride to the semifinal round of the tournament.
Penn State Abington junior forward Richard Domico (Neshaminy) was named to the NEAC All-Conference second team after a strong year on the field. Domico led the Nittany Lions in goals with nine and led the team in assists with four for the season.
Senior Ryan Smith (Hatboro-Horsham) was credited with an assist on the game-winning goal in the University of Scranton’s 3-2 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday
to capture the program’s first Landmark Conference Championship. With the win, the Royals locked up the Landmark’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. It was top-seeded and sixth-ranked Elizabethtown’s first loss in 11 matches.
Penn State Abington sophomore defender Joel Klapper (Central Bucks West) was awarded All-NEAC third team honors. Klapper finished the season playing all 16 games with 1434 minutes that led the team. The sophomore defender also recorded one goal for the year.
Philadelphia University’s Chris Kulczytzky (Council Rock North) was named to the 2015 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) second team for the second time in as many seasons. An important defender for the Rams, Kulczytzky contributed offensively with an assist in a 5-2 win at Felician.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Sarah McDonald (Pennsbury) recorded four saves in goal to pace 24th-ranked McDaniel in the Green Terror’s 1-0 double overtime loss to Johns Hopkins in a Centennial Conference semifinal contest Saturday.
Cedarville junior Grace Miorelli (Souderton) was named to the All-G-MAC second team. The junior midfielder is fourth in the G-MAC in scoring (11-11-33).
Freshman Brianna Rock (Bensalem) nailed a shot from inside the box in the 57th minute in Holy Family’s 3-2 loss to Felician University in the quarterfinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament on Tuesday. It was her fourth goals of the season.
Marykate Bateman (Hatboro-Horsham) scored her second goal of the Atlantic 10 Tournament in La Salle’s 2-1 loss to Duquesne in an A-10 semifinal on Friday night. Paige McDowell (Council Rock South) was credited with an assist on Bateman’s goal. In Friday’s 2-1 win over Saint Joseph’s, Bateman contributed an assist.
Penn State Abington senior midfielder Mallory Mugnier (Abington) was awarded her second NEAC All-Conference selection after earning first team All NEAC honors. Mugnier recorded six goals and five assists for the season.
Mugnier recorded a hat trick to make her the career leader in goals with 27 as Penn State Abington cruised to a 6-0 win over SUNY Poly on Saturday. The Abington graduate had nine goals for the season. The win propelled the Nittany Lions into Sunday’s NEAC Championship game where they fell to Penn State Berks 3-0.
Junior Jeannie Jasinski (Pennridge) converted a penalty kick in Ursinus College’s 3-1 win in penalty kicks over Gettysburg after the two teams battled to a scoreless tie after regulation and two overtime periods in Thursday’s opening round Centennial Conference clash.
Temple senior Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was named to the All-American Athletic Conference second
team. The Upper Dublin graduate finished the regular season second in goals scored for the Owls with a career high seven, including three multi-goal games. She also set a program record in most games played in a career with 78 and was 4-for-4 in penalty shots this season. Lafferty received Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this season for the weeks ending Sept. 14 and Oct. 26.
Junior Brittany Mitchell (William Tennent) scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 5-1 win over fourth-seeded Marywood University in a CSAC semifinal game on Wednesday night.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Senior Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was a double winner in Shippensburg’s 118-84 win over Clarion on Saturday. She took the 100 freestyle in 54.37 seconds and the 200 freestyle in 1:57.94. She also was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:53.06. In Friday’s 116-84 win over Gannon, Meier was part of the 440 medley relay that posted a time of 4:03.81. She also won her signature event, the 200 freestyle, in 1:58.35.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Kutztown University senior Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) was named the PSAC Women’s Volleyball Athlete
of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1. Stringer led the Golden Bears to a 1-1 record, including a 3-1 loss at West Chester and a 3-0 win at Cheyney. The middle hitter averaged 3.43 kills per set and hit .477 between the two matches. She currently ranks fourth in the PSAC in hitting percentage (.336) and ninth in kills per set (3.21). Despite recording just three blocks last week, Stringer still leads the conference with 127 total blocks and 1.30 blocks per set. Earlier this season, she recorded her 1,000th career kills. Stringer ranks fourth in KU history with 1,074 kills in her career, and her 3887 blocks slate her fifth in school history. Stringer recorded a team best nine kills and a match high four block blocks in Kutztown’s 3-0 loss to Lock Haven on Saturday. Freshman Niki Carpenter (Upper Merion) chipped in with five kills and three blocks. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to Pittsburgh-Johnstown, Stringer led the Golden Bears in total blocks with six, her 18th match this season with at least five. Carpenter recorded three kills and three blocks. In Tuesday’s 3-2 win over East Stroudsburg, Stringer totaled nine kills and five blocks Carpenter finished with three kills, three blocks and two digs.
Freshman Candyce Riley (Hatboro-Horsham), the CACC Defensive Player of the Week, had 20 digs in Holy Family’s 3-2 loss to Philadelphia University on Wednesday. It marked the 17th straight match that Riley posted 10-plus digs.
Senior Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) collected a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Neumann on Saturday to claim the program’s sixth Colonial States Athletic Conference title. With the win, Cabrini earned the league’s automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Tournament. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over Immaculata, Koenig directed the offense with 36 assists to go along with nine digs.
Eastern University junior Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) was named to the 2015 All-MAC Freedom first team. It is the first time she received first team honors after earning second team honors in her freshman campaign before missing nearly all of the conference season with an injury in 2014. Elechko led Eastern’s attack with 339 kills.
Elechko had 11 kills in Eastern University’s 3-0 win over fourth-seeded Misericordia University on Wednesday in the semifinals of the MAC Freedom Conference.
