MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Evan Slone (Souderton) scored 14 points in Arcadia’s 75-72 win over Immaculata on Tuesday.
Wes Brooks (North Penn) connected on a career best six three-pointers and finished with 20 points in McDaniel’s 63-52 loss to Marymount last Sunday. It was the most three-pointers by a McDaniel player in a single game since 2013.
Senior Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed eight points, nine assists and zero turnovers in No. 12 Villanova’s 86-75 loss to No. 8 Virginia in front of a sellout crowd of 14,593 at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 76-47 win over La Salle, Arcidiacono was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field to finish with 14 points, seven assists and just two turnovers.
Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) scored 19 points and Julian Hyden (Bensalem) added 18 and snared a game-high 11 rebounds in Gwynedd Mercy’s 77-72 loss to Hartwick at the HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout on Saturday. In Friday’s 93-87 win over Eastern University in the first day of the HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout, Goodman scored a team-high 21 points in his first action of the season. The CR North grad was 8-of-13 from the field. Hyden led the Griffins with nine rebounds and 11 points.
Julian Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) connected on six three-pointers for 18 points, which tied a career high, in Lock Haven’s 86-70 win over Millersville on Saturday.
Kutztown University junior Josh Johnson (Norristown) was named PSAC Athlete of the Week. He recorded
team highs of 19 points and eight rebounds in Kutztown’s 115-75 win over Penn State Berks. He was 4-of-5 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. For the season, Johnson is averaging a career high 16.5 points per game, 13th in the PSAC, and a career high 9.0 rebounds per game, seventh in the PSAC. He is shooting better than 60 percent from the field for the third straight year and sits fourth in the league at an even .600.
Johnson collected his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds in Kutztown’s 78-70 loss to Shippensburg on Saturday. Anthony Lee (Abington) had nine points. In Wednesday’s 77-76 win over Lock Haven, Ryan Connolly (Souderton) scored a team high 11 points, and Lee added 10, his fourth consecutive double-digit scoring effort. Lee also grabbed eight rebounds and had a career high three steals. Johnson posted nine points and eight boards.
Freshman Matt Penecale (Abington) contributed nine points, four assists and two steals in West Chester’s 81-76 win over Bloomsburg on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) scored a team-high 13 points to go along eight rebounds in Alvernia’s 54-49 win over Drew University on Thursday.
Freshman Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) scored 19 points in Michigan’s 97-55 win over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Regie Robinson (Upper Merion) contributed nine points and 11 rebounds in Eastern University’s 91-59 win over Farmingdale State in the opening round of the Hilton Poinsettia Classic on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds in Princeton’s 85-81 loss to Dayton on Sunday. In Friday’s 90-70 loss to No. 10/12 Ohio State, Wheatley finished with 14 points and six rebounds. In last Monday’s 55-44 win over Fordham, Wheatley netted a game-high 15 points and also pulled down six rebounds.
Sophomore Allison Gallagher (Souderton) registered career high in Widener’s 82-72 loss to Rowan on Saturday. The Souderton graduate pulled down 12 rebounds in addition to netting 24 points.
Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown) recorded six points and tied a career high with eight rebounds in Kutztown’s 71-58 win at Lock Haven on Wednesday night.
Junior guard Rachel Falkowski (Centra Bucks South) scored six points in East Stroudsburg’s 96-60 win over Cheyney on Saturday. In last Monday’s 70-61 win at Holy Family, Falkowski had five points.
FOOTBALL
Shippensburg University senior Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) was named to the 2015 Associated Press
Little All-America Third Team as an all-purpose player. Mayer is SU’s first AP Little All-American since Jake Metz (Souderton) in 2013. The Norristown graduate, also recognized as a Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) All-America Second Team return specialist, had a historic season returning punts. He set school records by leading all of Division II in punt return average (22.3 yards per return) and punt return touchdowns (three). Mayer became the first SU player to return two punts for touchdowns in a game when he did so against Millersville on Oct. 31. His 177 punt return yards against the Marauders is a Division II single-game best this season. Mayer won PSAC East Special Teams Player of the Week twice: once for his performance against Millersville and also after Week 3 when he returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown at California (Pa.). Additionally, Mayer led SU in receiving – totaling 45 receptions, 626 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns. The AP Little All-America team is made up of players from Division II, Division III and NAIA.
West Chester senior Andrew Cohen (Council Rock South) was named a finalist for the 2015 Cliff Harris
Award, which is handed out to the top defensive player in Division II, III, NAIA and junior college. He also was named a national finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award, which is handed out to the top lineman (offensive or defense) in Division II. He also received All-ECAC honorable mention recognition. Cohen finished his career this past fall by breaking the PSAC all-time record for sacks. He registered 13.5 sacks this season, leading the PSAC in that category, along with leading the league in tackles for a loss with 20. He was named the PSAC Eastern Division defensive player of the year and was a D2CCA All-Super Region I first team selection, broke the conference record for career sacks with 33.5. His 13.5 sacks this past fall ranked fifth nationally. His 20 tackles for a loss ranked 17th nationally as well. He is a three-time All-PSAC East selection and a two-time first team pick.

Gwynedd Mercy senior Ben Keliojor (Norristown) was part of the 4×200 relay that posted a time of 1:35.1 at the Early Bird Invitational hosted by Dickinson College last Saturday, nearly missing an ECAC qualifying standard by 1.6.
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Gwynedd Mercy senior Zakiyyah Richardson (Pennsbury) advanced to the finals in the 55 meter dash with a preliminary time of 7.47, the top mark heading into the finals, at the Early Bird Invitational hosted by Dickinson College last Saturday. Richardson won her second consecutive meet with a time of 7.43. Richardson also won the 200 with a time of 27.15 and was part of the 4×200 relay that clocked a time of 1:51.43, just one second off the ECAC qualifying time. In the 3000 meter run, sophomore Brittany Finn (Upper Moreland) ran her second fastest time in the event (12:20.20) to place her fourth overall.
WRESTLING
Kutztown redshirt senior Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) showed why he is the second-ranked wrestler in the country at 157 pounds. He led LIU Post’s TJ Fabian 8-2 in the second period and turned a takedown into a pinfall in 4:21, giving KU a 12-10 lead in its 27-13 win. Martoccio moves to 11-2 on the year and 11-0 against Division II competition.
