MEN’S BASKETBALL
Holy Family University junior Mekhi Bryant (Pennsbury) was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Dec. 17. In a pair of non-conference contests, Bryant averaged 23.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He totaled 15 points, six rebounds and four assists in the one-point setback at Pace University (77-76). Bryant highlighted the team’s road trip with a season-high 32 points in the single-digit loss (82-73) to nationally-ranked No. 25 St. Thomas Aquinas College. He shot 9-of-18 from the field, including four 3-pointers while connecting on 10-of-11 from the foul line. Bryant is averaging 14.6 points per game in 10 starts this season. He’s also averaging 3.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
Bryant had 10 points in Holy Family’s 100-76 win over Chestnut Hill College.
Josh McWilliams (Council Rock North) scored a team-high 17 points in McDaniel’s 69-54 loss to Southern Virginia on Saturday. In McDaniel’s 71-66 loss to Wilson, McWilliams led the Green Terror with 21 points.
Evan Slone (Souderton) scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds in Arcadia’s 83-75 win over Rosemont on Saturday. In Arcadia’s 72-64 win over Salisbury, Slone scored 16 points, including eight in the game-ending run on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Sophomore Tracy Simsick (Souderton) scored a career-high 23 points in DeSales University’s 94-76 loss to Drew University in the title game of the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament on Saturday. In Friday’s 72-49 opening round win over Gettysburg, Simsick had nine points, and Steven Ciotti (Pennsbury) had six assists and no turnovers.
Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored seven points in Moravian College’s 87-66 victory over Bryn Athyn on Saturday. In Moravian’s 78-73 loss to Widener, Murray tossed in a team-high 17 points.
Ithaca sophomore Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) was named Performer of the Week by the Liberty League as well as the ECAC North Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 17. Thompson hit the game-winning 3-pointer to lift Ithaca to a 71-68 win over No. 15 University of Rochester. The sophomore finished the game with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Through seven games this season in which the Bombers were 6-1, Thompson ranked second on the team with 16.1 points per game. He is shooting 26-for-53 (49.1 percent) from 3-point range this season and made more than three 3-pointers in five games.
Senior Zach Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 15 points and teammate Zack Muredda (Pennridge) had five assists in Ursinus College’s 87-84 loss to Catholic University on Saturday in the title game of the Holiday Inn College Classic. In Friday’s 67-66 win over Marymount (Va.), Muredda had six points, six assists and six rebounds. In the Bears’ 85-72 loss at Scranton, Quattro led Ursinus with 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, which put him at at least 50 percent from the floor for the seventh straight game. The stretch forward added six rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
Amir Hinton (Abington) had 15 points and six rebounds in Lock Haven’s 87-76 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday. In Lock Haven’s 107-73 win over Penn State Mount Alto, Hinton sparked the strong start with 14 first-half points. He finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals despite limited minutes in the second half.
Kutztown redshirt junior Anthony Lee (Abington) was recognized as the PSAC East Athlete of the Week for the week ending Dec. 10. It is the second weekly award for Lee, who was named Athlete of the Week on Dec. 4 for the first time in his career. Lee averaged 22 points per game in KU’s 2-0 week. He made 60 percent of his shots, including a 6-for-12 clip from 3-point range with an 8-for-9 performance at the free throw line. He added four rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Against Bowie State, an NCAA Tournament team last year, he scored 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting in 39 minutes. Against Seton Hill, he scored 23 points with six rebounds. Through Dec. 10, Lee was fifth in the PSAC in scoring (21.1 ppg), seventh in field goal percentage (59.0), first in 3-point percentage (53.1), sixth in free throw percentage (92.9) and second in steals (25).
Matt Penecale (Abington) contributed 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in 37 minutes in West Chester’s 95-89 win over Kutztown on Saturday. In West Chester’s 94-85 win over Bowie State, Penecale had a season-high 19 points and eight assists.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore forward Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) contributed seven points and eight rebounds in 20th-ranked University of Scranton’s 72-45 win over Keene State on Saturday in Music City Classic at Volunteer State Community College in Nashville, Tenn. In Friday’s 67-53 victory over Wheaton (Ill.) in an opening round game, Mason finished with eight points, four rebounds and four assists. In Scranton’s 70-59 win over Lebanon Valley, Mason had 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. In Scranton’s 81-48 win over Hartwick, Mason had 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Albright senior Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) was named ECAC Division III South Player of the Week and MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 17. Lofton did a little of everything for the Lions in their 65-58 non-conference road win over King’s with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-16 from the field (50 percent) and posted a team-high nine rebounds with seven of them being defensive. In addition, she registered a career-high eight assists along with two blocks and two steals in the win. Lofton also played a key role from the free throw line by making three of four attempts on the afternoon. This is the second time in her Albright career that Lofton has garnered honors from the ECAC after earning the weekly award in January of 2017. She ranks in the top 10 in the MAC Commonwealth in the majority of the offensive statistical categories.
Lofton had a team-high 18 points in addition to five rebounds, four assists and two blocks in Albright’s 74-61 loss to Montclair State in the championship game of the Montclair State Holiday Tournament on Saturday. Lofton was named to the All-Tournament team after two strong performances at the tournament. In Friday’s 62-59 upset of a Tufts squad ranked No. 2 in the WBCA poll and No. 1 in the D3Hoops poll, Lofton contributed 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block.
Sophomore Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) scored 21 points for her fifth straight double-figure output in Arcadia’s 74-62 loss to TCNJ on Saturday. She scored 10 of her 21 points in the third quarter when she converted five of her eight field goals attempts. Dunn also pulled down seven rebounds. In Arcadia’s 64-60 win over Rosemont, Dunn scored 15 points. In Arcadia’s 62-60 win over Rutgers-Camden, Dunn netted the final five points of the night, including the go-ahead free throws with 7.7 seconds left. Dunn finished with 18 points.
Aigner Bookard (Cheltenham) contributed 21 points, five assists and four steals in Cairn University’s 69-41 win over Medgar Evers on Saturday.
Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) had nine rebounds to lead all players in Washington College’s 69-45 loss to Misericordia. In Washington College’s 82-48 win over Immaculata, Quattro had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Senior Michael Harris (Abington) had six points and six rebounds in American University’s 68-58 win over defending Patriot League champion Bucknell on Friday. In American’s 75-66 upset of Penn State, Harris scored 10 points. In American’s 61-44 loss to George Washington, Harris scored a career-high 17 points.
Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) buried three 3-pointers for nine points in the University of the Science’s 76-50 victory at Wilmington on Saturday. The Devils buried 17 3-pointers, tying for the eighth-most by a Division II team this season. In Thursday’s 71-56 win over Stonehill, Vitelli contributed 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. In USciences 82-62 win over West Chester, Vitelli scored 18 points, which included three 3-pointers and a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line. She also had five rebounds. Freshman Irisa Ye (North Penn) scored nine points in 16 minutes off the bench. She made 3-of-4 field goal attempts. In No. 24 University of the Sciences 64-51 victory at Saint Rose on day two of the Holiday Classic, Vitelli scored a game-high 22 points in just 24 minutes for the second highest total of her career. She made 5-of-11 3-pointers in the game. In USciences 72-62 loss to American International in the opening game of the Saint Rose Classic, Vitelli contributed 13 points and three rebounds.
Junior Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) contributed 15 points and six rebounds in No. 21 University of Michigan’s 89-69 win over Penn State on Thursday. In Michigan’s 105-36 win over Delaware State, Munger chipped in 11 points. In the Wolverines’ 77-45 win over Fort Wayne, Munger had 13 points.
Forward Sajanna Bethea (Pennsbury) scored a team-high 20 points in Saint Peter’s 76-64 loss to Manhattan College on Thursday night. Sammy Lochner (Abington) had four points and five assists. In Saint Peter’s 70-49 loss to Yale, Bethea had a team-high six rebounds while Lochner had four points and four assists.
Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Council Rock South) contributed 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in Holy Family’s 74-59 loss to Le Moyne on Saturday.
Sophomore Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) tallied 12 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists in Ursinus College’s 75-50 win over Immaculata.
Jefferson University redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named the CACC Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 17. The PW graduate helped the Rams improve to 10-1 on the year after the team’s fourth straight win against Bloomsburg on the road (71-58). The Jefferson guard led the Rams with a game-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the victory.
Williams scored 20 points and Erin Maher (North Penn) added 10 in Jefferson University’s 94-55 win over Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. In Jefferson’s 84-75 win over Wilmington, Williams scored a game-high 24 points behind 10-of-16 shooting. She also had four rebounds and four assists.
Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) and Allison Gallagher (Souderton) each contributed 13 points in Widener’s 76-64 win over Marywood University. In Widener’s 86-68 loss to Rowan, Rimmer scored a season-high 17 points, and Gallagher recorded 12 points.
Senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) contributed 11 points, three rebounds, one block and two steals in Chestnut Hill’s 93-90 CACC win over Georgian Court on Saturday. In Chestnut Hill’s 73-70 win over Holy Family, Tumasz finished the contest with 25 points on a 9-of-15 shooting effort (.600). She also recorded four rebounds, one assist and two steals. In Chestnut Hill’s 76-53 loss at the University of New Haven, Tumasz finished with 13 points, one rebound and two steals.
Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field on her way to 12 points while adding two rebounds and one block in 35 minutes of action in Kutztown’s 76-59 loss to West Chester on Saturday. In KU’s 88-84 overtime win over Georgian Court, Wright scored 14 points and Taylor Thames (North Penn) added 12 points. Thames also had a team-high six assists, three of which came in the extra session.
FOOTBALL
Notre Dame junior Josh Adams (Central Bucks South) entered Monday’s Citrus Bowl with nine runs of at least 60 yards this season. Six of those runs came against Power 5 teams, making Notre Dame one of just four teams in FBS to have broken six runs of 60 yards or more against power conference teams this year. With seven runs of at least 60 yards this season, Adams leads the nation in that category. The CB South graduate is one of just two players in Notre Dame history to reach 1,000 rushing yards for the season in eight games. Adams was the fastest to 1,000 in terms of carries in school history.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) of the Widener University track and field team was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and the ECAC Division III South Athlete of the Week for the week ending Dec. 10. It is the first time this season he has received the honor. Ludlow raced for the first time in his collegiate career, taking third place in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.49 seconds at the Haverford Holiday Meet. Ludlow also competed in a field event, taking first in the long jump event, clearing 21’ 4”.
WRESTLING
Tenth-ranked Jeff Reimel (North Penn) controlled his match at 184 against LIU’s Dan McClure in Kutztown’s 22-17 win over LIU Post, and with the match playing out strongly in Reimel’s favor, the official disqualified McClure in the second period due to a bite.
