MEN’S BASKETBALL
Damien Washington (Upper Moreland) had 12 points and eight rebounds in Delaware Valley University’s 74-58 loss to King’s College. In the Aggies’ 77-70 loss to FDU-Florham, Washington scored a career-high 44 points. The UM graduate was 13-for-18 from the field with five rebounds through the first 20 minutes. Washington’s 44-point night ties the second most points in a single game in program history as he finished the night 19-for-31 from the field, 5-for-7 from the line and 1-for-1 from 3-point land. He also led all players with 13 rebounds and added a blocked shot.
Senior Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) had 20 points and six rebounds in Ithaca College’s 72-64 loss to Resselaer Polytechnic Institute last Saturday. In Ithaca’s 99-77 win over Union College, Thompson notched his second career double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. He was 5-for-10 overall, including 4-of-5 from 3-points range, and a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line.
Billy Warren (Pennsbury) contributed six points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks in Cabrini’s 116-101 victory over the University of Valley Forge on Monday. In last Saturday’s 103-99 win over Wesley College, Warren secured a game-high 13 rebounds, including nine offensive boards. He also had three steals and four points.
Junior Mike Bealer (Souderton) had a team-high 19 points, which included five threes, in DeSales University’s 84-60 win over MAC Freedom rival King’s College on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Trevonn Pitts (Cheltenham) contributed 19 points and 11 rebounds in Chestnut Hill’s 75-74 loss to Concordia College (N.Y.) on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 84-76 victory over Georgian Court, Pitts had 17 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists. In last Saturday’s 109-71 loss to Post, Pitts led the Griffins with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal. In Chestnut Hill’s 91-75 loss to No. 17 Jefferson University, Pitts led the Griffins in double figures with a career-high 27 points on 10-of-16 (.625) shooting performance and a 5-of-9 (.556) free throw effort.
Freshman guard Robbie Heath (Abington) raised his PSAC-best season scoring average to 22.7 with a game-high 23 points in West Chester’s 89-58 win over Mansfield Saturday. Heath connected on 9-of-12 field goals and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. He leads the Golden Rams at 7.4 rebounds per game. In last Saturday’s 102-89 loss to Bloomsburg, Heath had 18 points. In West Chester’s 91-85 loss to East Stroudsburg, Heath poured in a game-high 33 points, going 9-of-18 from the field and 12-of-12 from the free throw line. Heath has eclipsed 30 points in four games this season. He has made 10-plus free throws in six games this season, and he’s shooting 81 percent from the line.
Redshirt junior Max Wagner (Pennridge) had a team-high 22 points and nine rebounds in Bloomsburg’s 87-73 loss at Millersville on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 89-80 loss at Kutztown, Wagner, despite being plagued with foul trouble, had 12 points in only 18 minutes. In Bloomsburg’s 87-76 loss at Clarion, Wagner chipped in with seven points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones (Cheltenham) tallied 13 points in Temple’s 67-65 win over UCF on Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 86-81 loss to Cincinnati, Jones collected 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. In Temple 76-72 win over Penn, Jones had 17 points and six assists with 10 of her points coming in the fourth quarter. In the come-from-behind win, the Owls rallied from 13 down to start the fourth quarter, earning a win that gave Temple a share of the Philadelphia Big 5 title. In Temple’s 72-70 loss at Wichita State, Jones poured in 19 points an dished out a game-high seven assists. She also recorded two blocks.
University of the Sciences junior Irisa Ye (North Penn) earned her second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week
nod in three weeks when she was honored for the week ending Jan. 20. Ye scored a career-best 33 points in USciences’ victory over CACC North Division leader Post. It is the third time she has received the honor in her career. Ye averaged 26.0 points in 29.0 minutes per game while shooting 60 percent from the floor (21-of-35) and making 5-of-7 three-pointers in two USciences wins. She also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals as the Devils extended their win streak to nine games. The North Penn grad opened the week with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting to go along with five rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes in the Devils’ win over Caldwell. Ye then made 15-of-26 from the floor en route to her 33 points while leading all players with five assists and two steals.
Senior Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) set a program record for career three-pointers and also led all players with 20 points and nine rebounds as No. 24 University of the Sciences won 63-45 at Nyack on Saturday for its 12th
straight win. Vitelli opened the afternoon with a triple and made all four of her field goal attempts in the first quarter from beyond the arc, breaking Jessica Sylvester’s (2011-15) previous school record of 247 with her second trifecta 2:39 into the action. Vitelli scored the Devils’ first six points and nine of the first 11, finishing with 12 of her game-high 20 in the opening period. The senior shot 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc with her nine boards falling one shy of tying a career best. Ending the afternoon with 250 career triples, Vitelli became the fifth active player in Division II to reach that milestone. Jess Huber (North Penn) joined her in double figures with all 12 of her points coming in the third quarter while also leading all players with four assists. In Wednesday’s 78-62 win at Jefferson, Huber scored a game-high 25 points with 21 coming in the first half. She made 9-of-12 shots from the field and 6-of-7 from beyond the arc while also leading USciences with two steals. Ye added 18 points and Vitelli finished with 17. Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) had a game-high three assists and also blocked two shots to move into seventh in program history with 84 for her career. In USciences 76-67 win over Wilmington, Huber scored 20 points and had a career-best seven rebounds while Vitelli had 17 points and eight rebounds. Ye fell one rebound shy of her first career double-double with game highs of 25 points and career-bests of six assists and three blocks.
Giuliani, Vitelli and Ye were three of 14 University of the Sciences student-athletes who had a perfect 4.0 GPA for the Fall 2019 semester.
Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) had eight points, three rebounds and three assists in Kutztown University’s 66-55 win over Bloomsburg on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 70-62 loss to Shepherd, Wright contributed nine points. In KU’s 76-63 loss to Shippensburg, Wright recorded double figures for the third consecutive game, finishing with 10 points, two rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
Sophomore Kate Connolly (Souderton) had nine points and seven rebounds in Drexel University’s 59-50 win over Towson on Friday. In last Sunday’s 61-54 win over the College of William & Mary, Connolly contributed eight points.
Lizzie Oleary (Abington) contributed eight points and seven rebounds in the University of Delaware’s 68-58 loss at William and Mary.
Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had seven points and six rebounds in Bucknell’s 52-48 loss to Boston University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 77-46 win over Army West Point, O’Brien had 11 points. In last Saturday’s 60-50 loss to Loyola, O’Brien contributed 10 points with a pair of threes. In Bucknell’s 66-43 win over Colgate, O’Brien finished the game with nine points and a pair of assists.
Lauren Fortescue (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 14 points while contributing five assists and three rebounds in Salisbury University’s 93-59 win over St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 67-53 loss to York College, Fortescue had six rebounds, six points and one assist. In Salisbury’s 47-46 loss to Stevenson University, Fortescue had a game-high 18 points and also contributed six rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Senior Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) had a team-high 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting in No. 21/25 Emory University’s 80-71 loss to No. 15/23 University of Chicago on Friday night. In last Sunday’s 74-50 win over Case Western Reserve University, Chernow had seven points and knocked down Emory’s lone free throw attempts, pushing her consecutive free throw streak to 27.
Junior Sam Carangi (North Penn) had eight points, including a pair of threes, in Villanova’s 66-64 overtime victory over St. John’s on Friday.
Swarthmore College freshman Dana Bandurick (Council Rock North) was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week for the week
ending Jan. 26. It is the third time she received the honor this year. The freshman guard helped the Garnet to a 2-0 week in conference play with averages of 19.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting 75 percent from the floor. In a 49-46 victory over Ursinus, the freshman netted a team-high 14 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four blocks. Late in the fourth quarter, Bandurick had a crucial block on an attempted shot that would have pulled the Bears within two points of the Garnet. In the 60-57 win over McDaniel, she led all scorers with 24 points while adding 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.
Freshman Kassondra Brown (Abington) finished with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal in her first career start in the University of Rhode Island’s 64-59 loss at St. Bonaventure last Sunday.
Freshman Tamia Wessels (Abington) netted 14 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 103-66 victory over Valley Forge on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 115-75 win at Wesley, Wessels netted 22 points, and Haley Crossley (William Tennent) had 10 points. In last Saturday’s 100-85 victory at Immaculata, Crossley scored 15 points. In the Griffins’ 96-66 win over Neumann, Wessels had a season-best 19 points.
Senior Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished with a game-high 25 points – connecting on 9-of-17 shots with three 3-pointers –
in Jefferson University’s 67-59 win over Caldwell on Saturday. Freshman Haley Meinel (Central Bucks South) chipped in six points and four rebounds. Junior Sabria Lytes (Harry S Truman) also had four boards. In Wednesday’s 78-62 loss to the University of the Sciences, Williams, who scored 19 points, became the ninth Ram to reach 1,500 career points, passing former teammate Jessica Kaminski for ninth place on Jefferson’s all-time scoring list. She also recorded her 300th career assist. Lytes added 14 points and seven rebounds while Meinel had seven points. In Jefferson’s 68-63 win over Bloomfield last Saturday, Williams totaled 23 points, six assists and four steals. Meinel tallied 11 points and Lytes, 10 points. In Jefferson’s 76-72 loss to Chestnut Hill, Williams had 21 points, four steals, two rebounds and two assists. She was 9-for-16 with a trio of 3-pointers. Lytes and Meinel both had 13 points. Lytes grabbed seven boards while Meinel added four assists and three steals.
Junior Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) had 11 points in Cabrini’s 64-56 win over Immaculata on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 98-43 win over Wesley College, freshman Sydney Kesselman (Plymouth Whitemarsh) chipped in nine points and six rebounds. In Cabrini’s 81-54 win over Marywood, freshman Miranda Liebtag (Abington) had 11 points.
Sophomore Emma Stanfield (William Tennent) had six assists in DeSales University’s 76-56 win over King’s College on Saturday. In the Bulldogs’ 74-68 win over Stevens, freshman Megan Bealer (Souderton) scored eight points and pulled down a season-high 14 rebounds.
Senior Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) tallied 11 points and six rebounds in No. 15 University of Scranton’s 61-48 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 64-53 win over Drew, Mason had 15 points to pace the Lady Royals. In last Saturday’s 73-51 win over Juniata, Mason had 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. In Scranton’s 59-46 win over Susquehanna, Mason scored her 1,000th point. The CB West grad hit a layup with 6:26 left in the fourth quarter to become the 30th player in program history to hit the 1,000-point mark for her career. Mason finished the game with eight points.
Freshman Alexa Brodie (Central Bucks South) had seven points in Colgate University’s 63-62 overtime win over American University last Saturday. The win ended a streak of 27 consecutive losses in the series and boosted Colgate to 14-5 overall and 6-2 in the Patriot League.
Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) reached another milestone in Ursinus College’s 76-47 win over Bryn Mawr on Saturday. The Pennridge graduate
scored 16 points to go over 1,500 for her career, becoming just the third player in team history and the 18th in the CC to reach the mark. In the process, she moved into second on the program’s all-time scoring list. She also grabbed 10 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double and made all four of her free throws. In Wednesday’s 64-59 loss to Haverford, Konstanzer finished with 12 points to go with a career-high 19 rebounds for her fifth double-double in six games. In last Saturday’s 76-51 loss to Franklin & Marshall, Konstanzer posted 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five steals and three blocks. In the Bears’ 49-46 loss to Swarthmore, Konstanzer finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) had a game-high 10 rebounds and three assists in Washington College’s 65-51 win over Bryn Mawr.
Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) led the Knights with 14 points and four assists – her 13th straight game in double figures – in Arcadia University’s 68-52 loss to Stevenson last Saturday. In Arcadia’s 54-44 loss at Widener, Dunn led the Knights with 16 points.
Forward Alana Cardona (Souderton) had a career-high three blocks in just 13 minutes off the bench in No. 5 IUP’s 81-55 win over Seton Hill on Wednesday. The win was the 17th consecutive for the Crimson Hawks.
Devon Rimmer (Pennridge) became just the fourth player in Widener’s basketball history to score 1,500 career points in the Pride’s 72-51 win over Lebanon Valley on Wednesday. Rimmer tallied 16 in the game. In Widener’s 54-44 win over Arcadia, Rimmer had a team-high 15 points.
Sophomore forward Bri Hewlett (North Penn) recorded her first career double-double in her first start of the season in Chestnut Hill’s 75-68 loss to Georgian Court University on Wednesday. The North Penn grad finished the game with 12 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. In last Saturday’s 91-62 loss to Post University, Hewlett came off the bench for a career-high 21 points. She connected on 8-of-14 shots from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line. She also recorded four rebounds, one assist and a steal.
Mia Leonard (Cheltenham) reached double-digits with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, a new career-high, in Millersville’s 75-63 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday. The junior center went 5-for-5 from the charity stripe and led the team in blocks with three. Leonard shared the team lead with nine rebounds. In Wednesday’s 65-44 win over West Chester, Leonard had 12 points. In Millersville’s 63-60 road win over Mansfield, Leonard had 14 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double and just the second from a Marauder this season. In Millersville’s 82-75 loss to Lock Haven, Samantha Brusha (Abington) had a season-high 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting to go along with nine rebounds.
Bridget Birkhead (Central Bucks East) had 12 points, which included four triples, in Mount St. Mary’s 72-67 loss to Bryant last Saturday. In Mount’s 69-60 win over St. Francis Brooklyn, Birkhead registered four treys in the first half and led the team with 16 points to go along with three rebounds and an assist.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Mark Preedy (William Tennent) finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.84 in Arcadia’s 131-73 win over Elizabethtown on Friday. In last Saturday’s 208-27 win over Stevenson, Preedy won a pair of events on Senior Day. The Tennent graduate won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.51 and also the 100 freestyle with a new season-best time of 49.42.
Ridge Hagar (North Penn) was part of Messiah’s second place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:38.52 in the Falcons’ double-dual against Albright (122-138) and Misericordia (151-105) on Saturday. Hagar won the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.40 and finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.32). He finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.28. In last Saturday’s split with Lebanon Valley (197-45) and York College (116-143), Hagar was part of the second place 200 medley relay (1:40.29). Hagar also won the 200 fly, took second in the 200 IM (2:02.33) and finished second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.75.
Senior Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) paced Shippensburg in the 200 freestyle (1:48.14) and 500 freestyle (4:50.25) at the Navy Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman Sam Henninger (Abington) won both diving events in La Salle’s 198.5-99.5 victory over Seton Hall on Senior Day, taking first in both the 1-meter (285.98) and 3-meter (322.73).
Mark Lukens (Plymouth Whitemarsh) won the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.62 in Widener University’s 174-88 loss to Ramapo last Saturday.
Brad Johnson (Central Bucks West) was part of the first place 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:27.90 in Penn State’s 180-79 win over Villanova on Friday. Junior Bryce Hoch (North Penn) placed second in the 1-meter dive with a final score of 308.70.
Tyler Hall (North Penn) was part of the winning 200 free relay that finished in 1:26.05 in West Chester’s 183-106 loss to the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Rachel Samson (Council Rock North) captured first place in the 100 IM with a time of 1:05.52 in Arcadia’s 151-54 win over Elizabethtown on Friday. In last Saturday’s 208-27 win over Stevenson, Samson posted three victories on her team’s Senior Day. Samson set a season-best in the 200 freestyle (2:04.09) and also won the 100 freestyle (57.10). The senior paced the field in the 400 IM with a time of 4:58.89.
Sophomore Phoebe Shaya (Council Rock South) took both events on the boards in La Salle’s 178-122 win over Seton Hall on Senior Day. She won the 1-meter (250.58) and 3-meter (253.13). In La Salle’s 178.5-121.5 win over Loyola, Shaya won comfortably on the boards, taking the 1-meter-dive (263.5) and 3-meter dive (269.92).
Abbie Amdor (Upper Dublin) finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:50.51) for the third time this season in Penn State’s 167.5-93.5 win over Villanova on Friday. She also won the 100 free with a time of 51.34.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Holy Family junior MJ Powlowicz (Harry S Truman) recorded a pair of top-10 finishes at the 21st annual DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg on Saturday. He finished second overall in the 1,000-meters in a new personal best time of 2:43.11. Powlowicz also took part in the 400-meter dash and finished sixth overall in a time of 54.07 seconds to set a new personal best. Senior Ryan Merriman (Pennsbury) finished fifth overall in the 600-meters as he recorded a personal best time of 1:31.54.
Freshman Ladi Bamgbose (Pennsbury), sophomore Javier Linares (Pennsbury), sophomore Kyle Magee (Central Bucks South) and sophomore Nicholas Ferrentino (Central Bucks West) comprised St. Joseph’s top 4x400m relay that finished fourth in the 10-team field with a time of 3:22.10 at the unscored Villanova Invitational on Saturday. Linares finished ninth in the 400m with a season-best time of 50.74. Senior David Bryant (Upper Dublin) added a season-best 60m time of 7.16 in his fourth attempt of the season. At last Saturday’s John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University, junior Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) recorded an IC4A-qualifying 300m time of 8:25.14 (PR by 10.01 seconds), good for 43rd in a field of 150. Sophomore Michael Welde (Council Rock North) was part of the Hawks’ 4x400m relay ‘A’ squad that crossed in an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:18.54 for fourth in the field of 36. The Hawks’ 4x400m relay ‘B’ squad included Magee and Linares as well as sophomore Aidan Sauer (Pennsbury) crossed in an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:19.31 for 12th. The ‘A’ team’s performance ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10. Top individual performances included Bryant’s 7.21 for 60m (15th/58) and Bamgbose’s collegiate-best 22.40 for 200m (59th/191), just .16 seconds off an IC4A mark.
Shippensburg redshirt sophomore Shamar Jenkins (Souderton) posted a leap of 21 feet, 9 ½ inches in the long jump at Penn State University’s National Invitational on Saturday. On Friday, he posted a top mark in the triple jump of 46 feet, 4 ¾ inches.
Messiah freshman Josiah Moyer (Souderton) posted a time of 9:15.02 in the 3,000m at the NYC DIII Invitational on Friday. In last Saturday’s Coach I Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall, Moyer finished 14th in the 3,000 with a time of 9:23.61.
Ursinus junior Griffin McMann (Pennridge) continued his impressive indoor campaign with a runner-up showing in the shot put (47-7.74) at the NYC Invitational on Friday. Brody Johnson (Central Bucks West) posted a PR in the 60m hurdles (10.30). In Thursday’s tri-meet at Haverford, Daniel Powell (Central Bucks East) posted a PR of nearly five seconds in the 800 (2:21.49). In last Saturday’s Collegeville Classic, McMann extended his Centennial Conference-leading shot put tally to 48.8.75, a personal best by a few inches and enough to land him third place.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Elijah Rizzo (Bensalem) broke a meet record in the high jump at the NYU Division III Invitational on Friday. Rizzo’s top mark of 1.96 meters earned him a first place finish, nailing the height on his first attempt. He then moved up to 2.06 meters for a chance to break his own record but fell short on all three attempts. For his win, he earned 10 team points.
Widener junior Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) nabbed a seventh place finish in the 60 meters at the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College last Saturday, clocking a time of 7.26.
West Chester sophomore Ori Frazier (Abington) earned fourth place in the 400m dash at the Bison Open on Saturday, posting a time of 50.32. Brandon Vargas-Bines (Upper Dublin) was part of the West Chester ‘B’ team 4x400m relay that finished fifth with a time of 3:33.52. On day one of the Bison Open Friday, Vargas-Bines was part of the third place distance medley relay that finished in 11:04.57.
Bloomsburg sophomore Justin Ziegler (Souderton) recorded his personal-best in the one-mile run with a time of 5:01.32 at the Bison Open on Saturday. Junior Matthew Hart (Pennsbury) picked up a PSAC mark as he tossed a 14.88-meter throw in the weight throw and took 12th overall. Hart posted his personal best in the shot put with a throw of 12.97 meters and took 16th overall. On Friday at the Bison Open, senior Declan McDonald (Central Bucks West) came in 18th in the 3,000m run with a time of 9:32.41. Hart took sixth place in the weight throw with a personal-best throw of 15.46 meters (50-8.75).
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Holy Family sophomore Victoria Reid (Bensalem) finished eighth overall in the 1000-meter run in a personal best time of 3:48.71 at the DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University on Saturday. Senior Bernadette Hughes (Council Rock North) set a personal best as she finished 10th overall in 4:11.30.
Messiah junior Julia Geisheimer (Neshaminy) finished 34th in the 200m with a time of 27.89 at the NYC DIII Invitational on Friday. She also finished in 17th in the long jump with a mark of 4.45m. In last Saturday’s Franklin & Marshall Coach I Open, Geisheimer was part of the 4x200m relay that posted a time of 1:47.90 to take second in the event. Geisheimer also led the way for Falcons in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 28.44 seconds to finish in 10th place.
Saint Joseph’s senior Monica Higgins (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished fourth in a field of 18 in the 800m (2:18.75) at the unscored Villanova Invitational on Saturday evening. At the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University last Friday, Higgins continued to improve upon her 800m PR, clocking in with a collegiate best time of 2:15.00 to place 31st in a field of 150. The senior placed second in her section to improve upon her previous PR set by 1.10 seconds. She missed ECAC qualification by just 3.06 seconds.
Ursinus juniors Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) and Michela Coleman (Wissahickon) were part of the 4x400m relay squad that posted a time of 4:09.73 at the NYC Invitational on Friday. The mark is second in the Centennial about two seconds behind Johns Hopkins. At Thursday’s quad meet at Haverford, Amanda Choi (Plymouth Whitemarsh) posted a time of 2:59.81 in the 800m.
Shippensburg senior Jordan Higgins (Hatboro-Horsham) completed 500 meters in 1:23.77 to finish third at the 2020 Bison Open and Multi on Saturday. At last Saturday’s Gulden Invitational, freshman Lieke Black (Wissahickon) qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.71. Higgins was the lone Raider to meet the league standard in the open race, placing fifth in the 400m with a time of 1:01.13. Higgins was part of the fifth place 4x400m relay that posted a time of 4:03.41.
West Chester junior Emma Brodhog (William Tennent) earned seventh overall in the triple jump with a mark of 35-02.00 at the Bison Open on Saturday. Tara McLaughlin (North Penn) finished fourth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:45.75, improving on her career best by three seconds. On Friday at the Bison Open, Cara Jackson (Souderton) was part of the second place distance medley relay that posted a time of 12:41.91. Their performance was the ninth best DMR in program history.
Millersville junior Kaitlin Moyer (Quakertown) placed seventh in the pentathlon with 2,760 points at the Bison Open on Saturday. Her top event finish was a second place in the shot put with a mark of 32-5 ¾.
Bloomsburg junior Kathleen Stevenson (North Penn) posted a PSAC-qualifying jump in the long jump as she finished fifth overall with a distance of 5.24 meters at the Bison Open on Saturday. Jessica Brenfleck (North Penn) was part of the 4x400m relay team that finished second with a season-best time of 4:09.92. On Friday at the Bison Open, Stevenson was part of the 4x400m relay team that posted the sixth best time in the relay as they finished second in the first section with a time of 4:10.50, a season-best time for the Huskies.
Taylor Allen (Pennsbury) was part of East Stroudsburg’s 4×200 relay that finished first with a time of 1:46.87 at the 21st annual Dick DeSchriver Invitational on Saturday. Barbara Grossov (Quakertown) had a toss of 43-9 ¾ in the weight throw. At last Saturday’s Gulden Invitational, Grossov registered a weight throw toss of 45-11 ¾.
WRESTLING
Freshman Corey Cope (Quakertown) earned a win at 133 over Dietrich Hartman (Williams) before winning as a 141 over Diego Perez (Hunter) in the Western New England University’s tri-match wins over Williams College (30-15) and Hunter College (46-10) last Saturday.
Ray Calderaio (Central Bucks South) earned a 7-2 decision at 133 in Ursinus College’s 35-14 win over Gettysburg at Saturday’s Senior Day Centennial Conference quad match. In the Bears’ 33-18 win over Johns Hopkins, Calderaio earned a tech fall, this time at 141. In the Bears’ 21-13 loss to No. 21 Muhlenberg, Calderaio notched a 6-3 decision at 141.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Justin Flor (Quakertown) had 26 assists in Eastern University’s 3-0 win over Neumann University on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Elizabethtown, Flor had 27 assists and eight digs. He had 19 assists and nine digs in Eastern’s 3-0 loss to Penn State Behrend later in the day.
