BASEBALL
Georgetown senior Matt Hollenbeck (Hatboro-Horsham) and senior Katrina Coogan were named a BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete award winners. A Preseason All-Big East selection in 2015, Hollenbeck had a strong campaign for the Hoyas last season, both as a starter and out of the bullpen. The southpaw made 18 appearances on the mound, compiling a 5-2 record and a 3.18 ERA, tied for the team lead in wins and finished second with 50 strikeouts. Off of the diamond, Hollenbeck, an accounting major, has been named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in each of his first three years. He helped organize a group of Hoya baseball players to volunteer at DC Central Kitchen, helping prepare meals for D.C. public school lunches and prepare food for the Capital Food Fight, a cook-off between local chefs to raise funds for the DC Central Kitchen. As the BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete award winners, both Coogan and Hollenbeck will receive $2,000 scholarships.
Greg Paprocki (Council Rock South) recorded the final five outs in La Salle’s 4-0 loss to Charlestown Southern on Friday, walking one and striking out two.
Senior Craig Lepre (North Penn) capped a four-run frame with an RBI single in the University of Albany’s 9-6 win over NC State on Saturday.
Junior Daniel Chou (Wissahickon) was 1-for-3 with a walk in Caltech’s 9-1 loss to Bates College on Monday.
Junior first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown) delivered a three-run triple in a five-run 11th inning in Chestnut Hill’s 6-1 win over Molloy College on Friday. Sophomore pitcher Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Whitemarsh) threw 1.2 scoreless inning of relief to earn the win.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Junior Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored 16 points, including three three-pointers, in No. 6 Villanova’s 87-76 win over Marquette on Saturday. After scoring five points in the first half, Arcidiacono got the Wildcats’ offense going when the first nine points of the second half came on his three three-pointers.
Wes Brooks (North Penn) scored eight points in McDaniel’s 60-52 loss to Gettysburg on Saturday.
Freshman Aaron Burton (Cheltenham) scored 12 points on a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in DeSales University’s 74-61 win over Manhattanville College on Tuesday. Senior Travis Bryan (Hatboro-Horsham) had nine points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
Junior forward Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) scored 17 points and also had five rebounds in Washington College’s 81-62 loss to Swarthmore on Saturday.
Senior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had six points and five assists in No. 1 Randolph-Macon’s 82-63 win over Emory & Henry on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets finished 16-0 in ODAC play for the first time in program history. In Wednesday’s 103-72 win over Shenandoah, Badger had nine assists, including seven in the second half. He also had three steals.
Junior forward Ryan O’Neil (Central Bucks East) had a career-high 15 points and also had five rebounds and one blocked shot in Moravian College’s 74-52 loss to The United States Merchant Marine Academy on Monday. In Saturday’s 58-53 loss to Juniata, O’Neill had seven points.
Junior forward Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and also scored eight points in Temple’s 67-58 loss at No. 21 SMU on Thursday. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Owls.
Junior Julian Hyden (Bensalem) scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half of Gwynedd Mercy’s 83-66 win over Rosemont on Saturday. He went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line down the stretch. He also had nine rebounds. In Monday’s 82-68 loss to Neumann, Hyden netted 14 points off the bench.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Jason Cavell (Council Rock North) was chosen to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Senior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 14 points and six assists in East Stroudsburg’s 74-40 loss to Mansfield on Saturday. Grant moved into eighth place in PSAC history with 263 three-pointers. In Wednesday’s 82-76 win at East Stroudsburg, Grant had 10 points.
Sophomore Josh Johnson (Norristown) scored a game-high 28 points on 9-of-10 shooting in Kutztown’s 99-94 win over Bloomsburg on Wednesday. He connected on 10-of-12 from the free throw line, marking career highs in makes and attempts at the charity stripe. He grabbed seven rebounds with two blocks in 29 minutes and left his mark on the Huskies with dunk after dunk. Johnson has scored over 750 career points in his 54 career games.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) scored 15 points in Saint Joseph’s 61-59 win over Richmond on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 82-51 win over George Mason, Andrews contributed 11 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) led all scorers, pouring in 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting, in No. 16 Princeton’s 70-31 win over Dartmouth on Friday.
Senior Emily Leer (Abington) scored 11 points in Villanova’s 64-62 loss to Seton Hall on Sunday. In Friday’s 56-51 loss to St. John’s, Leer scored 13 points, including eight of her team’s first 12 points.
Junior forward Carley Kendall (Souderton) contributed 11 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots in Washington College’s 64-54 loss to Swarthmore on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 66-55 loss to Johns Hopkins, Kendall scored 11 points.
Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds in Albright’s 73-54 win over Alvernia on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 69-55 win over Lebanon Valley, Roberts scored 16 points.
Junior guard Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) scored seven points in East Stroudsburg’s 69-54 win at Mansfield.
Senior guard Shayla Felder (Cheltenham) contributed seven points, three steals and three assists in Chestnut Hill’s 76-68 win over Felician College on Saturday.
Freshman Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) scored 11 points, shooting 3-of-6 from three-point range, in Shippensburg’s 72-70 loss to Lock Haven on Saturday. Junior Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) added seven points. In Wednesday’s 64-50 win over Millersville, Knauer had nine points and eight rebounds.
Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) scored nine points in Albright’s 73-54 win over Alvernia on Saturday.
Senior Natasha Matthews (Norristown) netted a game-high 20 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 79-63 win over Marywood on Friday. In Wednesday’s 87-33 win over Cairn, Matthews led a balanced scoring attack with a game-high 16 points. In Monday’s 66-56 loss to Cabrini, Matthews had 15 points.
Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) contributed 11 points and seven rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 63-56 win over King’s College on Tuesday.
Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) had 10 points and five rebounds in Cairn University’s 87-33 loss to Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday. In Monday’s 93-29 loss to Rosemont, Eppolito had seven points.
Freshman Allison Gallagher (Souderton) recorded a game-high 19 points, shooting 9-of-17 from the field, and also had two assists and one steal in Widener’s 84-57 win over Arcadia on Saturday. The Souderton grad now holds the record for points scored in a season by a freshman with 380 in 25 games played. Gallagher finished the season with a team high 15.2 points a game.
Jessica Schmidt (Abington) scored 10 points in Penn State Abington’s 71-70 loss to Penn College on Friday. In Wednesday’s 70-15 win over Wilson College, Schmidt scored seven points on 3-of-4 shooting.
SOFTBALL
Maggie Shaffer (Hatboro-Horsham) earned the win in Guildford’s 8-5 win over William Peace on Saturday afternoon in near freezing temperatures in Greensboro, N.C. She threw six innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out four.
Haleigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) had a pair of hits in Robert Morris University’s 9-2 win over North Dakota in the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational in Madeira Beach, Fla., on Friday. It was the 12th multi-hit game of her career. In the team’s 7-4 win over Eastern Michigan, Stocks earned her second win of the season, allowing one run in 3.2 innings while striking out three.
Sophomore Lauren Quense (Neshaminy) had a pair of hits in Fordham’s 8-1 win over Furman in Friday’s doubleheader sweep in Greenville, S.C. In last Sunday’s 6-5 win over Detroit, Quense notched her first win of the season, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits while walking one and fanning five in 4.0 innings of work.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Albright senior Rick Sutton (Hatboro-Horsham) broke the Albright and MAC record in winning the 500 freestyle in 4:35.35 at the 2015 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Thursday. He also broke the school record in the 200 freestyle in 1:42.74 while swimming the lead leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay. Sutton also won the 1650 freestyle, which marked the fourth consecutive year in which he won the event. He also won the 500 freestyle four consecutive times, making him the first swimmer in Albright history to win two separate events four consecutive times. Albright men’s team captured its fifth consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference Championship.
West Chester’s Connor Forlini (William Tennent) finished third in the 500 free with a time of 4:33.97 at the 2015 PSAC championships. He finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 9:26.91 and was sixth in the 400 individual medley (4:01.65). Evan Sherkness (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished second in the 50 free with a time of 20.81.
Gettysburg senior Ashton Leyens (Upper Dublin) was part of the 200 meter relay that posted a B cut of 1:21.10 on day one of the Centennial Conference championships on Friday, setting conference championship and pool records in the process. Junior Ian Scullion (Central Bucks South) was 14th in the 500 free with a time of 4:49.96.
Washington & Jefferson junior Kevin Dunigan (North Penn) earned first team All-Presidents Conference recognition. His PAC finishes were as follows: 100 breast (2nd), 200 breast (4th), 200 IM (8th), 400 free relay (3rd), 200 free relay (4th), 200 medley relay (4th)
and 400 medley relay (4th). Senior Ben Mancini (Springfield) earned second team All-Presidents Conference honors. His PAC finishes were as follows: 500 free (4th), 1650 free (5th), 200 free (13th).
Sophomore Spencer Collopy (North Penn) and sophomore Dylan Cooper (William Tennent) were part of Ursinus College’s 200 medley relay that finished sixth with a time of 1:37.74 at the 2015 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships on Saturday. Both Cooper and Collopy were part of the 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:28.97.
Andrew Richey (William Tennent) was part of IUP’s 200 freestyle relay that finished third at the PSAC Championships with a time of 1:24.71. He also was part of the 200 medley relay that finished third with a time of 1:34.14.
UNC junior Ozzie Moyer (Souderton) finished 14th with 282.00 points in the 10-meter platform diving at the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference championships. He finished 16th in the three-meter diving event with a score of 328.05. UNC finished second as a team.
Lycoming senior TJ Guminski (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 15th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:21.86 at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships last Sunday.
Senior RJ Phiambolis (Pennridge) was part of Shippensburg’s fifth place 800 free relay that posted a season PR of 7:04.41 at the 2015 PSA Championships on Saturday. Freshman Kane Nelson (Upper Moreland) swam a personal best in the 100 butterfly (55.03) on Friday.
Pat Stasio (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of Bloomsburg’s fourth place 800 free relay that finished in 6:59.03 at the 2015 PSAC Championships. The Hatboro grad finished 16th in the 100 free with a time of 48.02.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Delaware junior Kristina Congdon (Pennsbury) placed sixth in the 3-meter final with 280.95 points at the Colonial Athletic Association Diving Championships on Saturday.
La Salle freshman Sydney Szopo (Upper Moreland) placed sixth in the three-meter diving final with a score of 256.45 at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Friday. In the 1-meter dive, Szopo finished ninth (215.90) in the preliminary to earn nine points.
Gettysburg freshman Jules Marble (Springfield) finished 15th in the 50 free with a time of 25.35 at the Centennial Conference Championships on Friday.
Emily Houser (Upper Dublin) was part of Dickinson’s sixth place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:51.17 at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday. The Upper Dublin grad finished eighth in 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.00. She was part of Friday’s fifth place 400 medley relay that posted a time of 4:01.44.
West Chester’s Dani Barron (Pennridge) finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:12.29 at the 2015 PSAC Championships on Thursday.
Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was part of Shippensburg’s sixth place 800 free relay that posted a time of 7:51.68 at the 2015 PSAC Swimming Championships Friday. Meier swam a 1:55.36 split. Senior Devon Perugini (Neshaminy) notched a new 100 backstroke PR of 1:01.10. On Friday, Meier qualified ninth in the 200 free and finished the ‘B’ final with a 10th place time of 1:55.42. She also was part of the sixth place 400 medley relay (3:55.68). On Thursday, Meier scored in the 50 free for the second consecutive year, placing 15th with a time of 24.54 seconds after sneaking into the ‘B’ finals with a preliminary time of 24.60. Meier placed 10th in the event last year. Her PR of 24.20 seconds has her ranked sixth in school history for the event.
Brown senior Kate Dillione (Council Rock North) finished second in the 100 freestyle with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 49.68 at the 2015 Ivy League Championships. The CR North grad finished fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.88, and she was part of the 200 free relay that finished third. Dillione finished fourth in the 50 free.
Lock Haven senior Abby Miller (Neshaminy) was part of the 11th place 800 free relay (8:16.04) at the 2015 PSAC Championships on Saturday. Miller recorded a season-best time of 26.14 in the 50 freestyle.
Kutztown’s Bridget Perdoch (Pennsbury) finished 19th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.79 at the 2015 PSAC Championships. She finished 20th in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:09.93, 10th best all-time. Perdoch was part of the 12th place 800 free relay (8:25.24). On Friday night, Perdoch was part of the 400 medley relay that finished ninth with a time of 4:02.84, .03 seconds off their 10th-best time in KU history.
Sophomore Marisa Ferrari (Central Bucks East) and senior Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) were part of Ursinus College’s 200 free relay that won the B final at the 2015 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships. Kozior also was part of the 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:52.88 and finished third in the B final.
Lycoming sophomore Jess Wimmer (Souderton) earned second team All-MAC honors with her fourth place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.79) at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships last Sunday. It was her first career all-conference accolade.
Elizabethtown’s Amanda Robbins (Cheltenham) finished 16th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:57.31 at the Landmark Conference Championships. Teammate Rachel Engelhardt (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 16th in the 100 freestyle with a tie of 57.51.
Franklin & Marshall’s Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) earned a spot in the consolations of the 50 freestyle (25.24) and 100 backstroke (1:00.66) at the Centennial Conference Championships.
Bloomsburg’s Alex Wheatley (Upper Dublin) finished seventh in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.99 at the 2015 PSAC Championships. She finished fifth in the 100 back with a time of 57.65. Wheatley was part of the first place 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:48.68. The time was an NCAA ‘B’ cut time and the second best in school history.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
IUP’s Austin Cooper (Upper Merion) ran a 4:18.57 in the mile at the Kent State Tune Up on Saturday.
Matthew McGarvey (Central Bucks West) was part of Saint Joseph’s 4×800 relay that posted a winning and IC4A-qualifying time of 7:42.93 at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. McGarvey flew through the 800m finals in an IC4A-qualifying 1:54.04 on Sunday to cap a phenomenal indoor career in which he scored in the 800m at all four of his indoor A-10 meets, highlighted by the event title last year, the silver medal this year and the bronze medal in 2013. McGarvey was also second (1:55.34) in the preliminaries on Saturday.
East Stroudsburg freshman Sean Hagerty (Pennridge) improved his PSAC qualifying mark in the long jump (21-5 ¼) with his fifth place finish at Kutztown’s Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. He finished 13th in the 200 meter dash (24.45).
Johns Hopkins senior Michael Spadaro (Council Rock South) cleared 3.50m (11-5.75) in the pole vault at the Susquehanna Indoor Open on Friday. It was a personal record for the CR South grad.
Kutztown’s Chris Varichione (Quakertown) had a pair of third place finishes in the weight throw (53-1 (16.18m) and the shot put (49-9.25 (13.95) at the Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. His weight throw, a PSAC-existing throw, was a career best and remains seventh all-time at Kutztown. Brandon Raguz (Central Bucks South) hit 14-5.25 (4.40m) in the pole vault, a season best and PSAC-existing. Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield) finished second in the 200 meter with a time of 23.25, a PSAC-existing time. Ron Smith (Neshaminy) finished third in the 400 meter dash with a PSAC-existing time of 52.02.
Widener senior Michael Quinn (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished sixth (8:35.53) in the 3000-meter race at the Keogh Invitational on Saturday. At the Cornell Sunday Invitational, Quinn earned a second place finish in the mile run. He finished with a time of 4:16.32 to qualify him for the ECAC Championships.
West Chester’s Ben Licona (Souderton) finished eighth in the weight throw and was fifth in the shot put with a distance of 42-10.25 at the Last Chance Invite at Kutztown on Saturday.
Bloomsburg’s James Wilson (Central Bucks South) turned in his best time in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.85 to finish 14th out of 34 athletes at the Deneault Invitational at Cornell on Saturday. At the Susquehanna Open on Friday, Alex Moran (Pennridge) qualified in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 9.09 in the prelims to move into the finals. He bettered his time in the finals, winning the event with a mark of 8.98.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Tiffany Burrows (Quakertown) was part of Messiah’s 4×200 relay team that posted a season-best time of 1:51.99 and finished third at the Susquehanna Open. Burrows took third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.12.
West Chester’s Christine Johnson (North Penn) captured third in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put at the Kutztown Last Chance Invite on Saturday. Courtney Taylor (Central Bucks South) finished fifth in the 200 meters, and Ebony Grasty (Abington) finished fourth in the triple jump.
Bloomsburg senior Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) set a school record in the 2000 meters at the Denault Invitational at Cornell, finishing in 9:52.10. Dodds broke her own school-best time of 9:54.11 that she set earlier this month. Her performance on Saturday moved her up the NCAA provisional qualifying charts. Teammate Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) had a personal record in the mile run with a time of 5:31.49. Alexis Rankin (Hatboro-Horsham) ran the 600 meters for the first time and finished in 1:41.85. On Friday at the Susquehanna Open, Tayler Harkins (North Penn) finished first in the weight throw (14.96m (49-01.00).
Kelly Anne Stuetz (Cheltenham) was part of Stroudsburg’s 4×400 that finished third with a time of 4:23.68 at the Last Chance Invite at Kutztown on Saturday. She finished third in the high jump (5-1).
Moravian freshman Casie Cronk (Quakertown) was part of the second place 4×400 relay at the Kutztown University Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. She also was tied for fourth in the high jump as she cleared 1.50 meters (4-11). Sophomore Lauren Suelke (Quakertown) was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 10.36 meters (34-0), and sophomore Sarah Hughes (Souderton) placed fifth in the mile run with a time of 5:39.90.
Kutztown’s Anecia Alexaki (Upper Merion) posted a PSAC-existing height of 10-4 (3.15m) in the pole vault at the Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. Olivia Dettore (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 5:54.81 in the mile
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Christian Lizana (Pennridge) contributed four kills, five digs and four blocks in Vassar College’s 3-0 win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent at the Bard College Tournament on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 3-1 loss to No. 14 Elmira, Lizana had seven digs and four kills.
Ryan Garven (Council Rock North) had five kills and eight digs while teammate Micah Godshall (Souderton) had four kills and six digs in Cairn University’s 3-0 loss to Marymount on Friday. In Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to No. 4 Juniata, Godshall had eight kills and a team-high 11 digs.
WRESTLING
Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) recorded his 21st victory this season at 157 pounds, pinning Eric Howey at the beginning of the second period in 15th-ranked Kutztown’s 34-8 win over East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.
