BASEBALL
Freshman Dan Klepchick (Central Bucks South) earned his first collegiate win in Monmouth’s 17-5 victory over UMBC on Sunday in Cary, N.C., allowing five runs on five hits through seven innings. The freshman hurler retired the first nine batters he faced. Danny Long (Pennridge) was twice hit by pitches. In Saturday’s 9-8 win over Penn State, Long fired a spotless ninth to complete a comeback that saw MU rally from an 8-4 deficit in the ninth inning. It was Long’s second career save. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to #23 St. John’s, Monmouth got six effective innings from fifth-year starter Ricky Dennis (Central Bucks South), who allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five. Long is 4-for-8 in three games with at least one hit in all three games. In last Saturday’s 5-3 loss to No. 11 Dallas Baptist, Joe Molettiere (Pennridge) struck out six in six solid innings on the hill. Long knocked Monmouth’s first long ball of the season to lead off the ninth.
Sophomore Cole Swiger (Upper Dublin) had two hits and also scored two runs in Bloomsburg’s 15-2 win over The Apprentice School on Friday. Colton Hooker (Upper Moreland) doubled and drove in a pair of runs. In the Huskies’ come-from-behind 9-8 win over Kutztown, Swiger was 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and run scored.
Kevin Barron (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed an RBI double in Campbell’s 5-1 win over Western Michigan on Saturday night in Buies Creek, N.C. In Friday’s 9-5 win over Yale, Barron was 2-for-3.
Sean Maniatis (Pennsbury) notched his first win of the season in Widener’s 4-3 win over Immaculata in game one of a twinbill sweep on Saturday. In a 3-2 win in nine innings in game two, Dylan Morrisette (Souderton) provided the heroics as he hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate the game winner. In Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to Kean, Maniatis picked up where he left off last season, authoring two scoreless innings, fanning one.
Justin Horn (Upper Dublin) contributed an RBI in No. 2 West Chester’s 12-5 loss to No. 7 St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday. In Saturday’s 13-2 win in game one of a doubleheader sweep of IUP, Jared Melone (North Penn) contributed an RBI single, and Horn doubled in a run. In Friday’s 4-1 loss to the College of Saint Rose, Melone hit an RBI groundout.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Damien Washington (Upper Moreland) was 8-for-16 from the field en route to 22 points, one short of his career high, in Delaware Valley University’s 86-79 loss Eastern University. He also grabbed 11 rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
Senior Josh McWilliams (Council Rock North) matched his career high in McDaniel’s 75-72 win over Muhlenberg last Saturday. The CR North graduate scored 30 points in his final collegiate game, including the game-winning three-pointer with 3.1 seconds left. In McDaniel’s 56-41 loss to Gettysburg, McDaniel led the Green Terror with 15 points.
Senior Zach Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a team-high 17 points in his final collegiate game in Ursinus College’s 68-49 loss to top-seeded Swarthmore in Friday night’s Centennial Conference semifinal game. In the Bears’ 80-76 win over Dickinson, Quattro finished with 11 points. In last Saturday’s 77-60 win over Gettysburg, Zack Muredda (Pennridge) had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Sophomore Khalil White (Cheltenham) scored 12 of his team's first 22 points as Penn State York jumped out to an early lead in last Saturday's PSUAC semifinal against Penn State Brandywine. The Cheltenham graduate led all scorers with 29 points, going 7-for-14 from three-point range. Penn State York fell to Penn State Brandywine 80-69.
Junior guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored nine points in Moravian College’s 81-78 victory over top seed Juniata to capture the 2018 Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday. He moved into a tie for 16th in school history with 1,118 points. In Wednesday’s 96-91 semifinal win over Drew, Murray netted 24 points to go along with three steals, two blocked shots and two rebounds. The PW graduate connected on a trio of three-pointers and his second of the game in the first half broke the school record of 160 set in 2008. In last Saturday’s 90-88 loss to The Catholic University, Murray had 25 points, including six three-pointers. He also had three rebounds and three assists. In Moravian’s 93-81 over Drew, Murray had 19 points, eight assists and two rebounds.
Evan Slone (Souderton) scored eight points in Arcadia’s 88-55 upset of fourth-seeded Messiah on Monday to advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship semifinal round. In last Saturday’s 91-85 loss to Hood, Slone had 12 points.
DeSales University sophomore Tracy Simsick (Souderton) was named to the All-MAC Freedom second team. It was his first appearance on the all-conference squad. Simsick had a breakout year and is second on the Bulldogs in scoring with an average of 12.8 points per game. He is ranked 11th in the MAC Freedom in scoring.
Freshman Mike Bealer (Souderton) scored six points on a pair of threes in DeSales University’s 74-59 loss to Misericordia in the MAC Freedom championship game on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 74-69 win over Eastern University in the MAC Freedom semifinals, Simsick led the scoring attack, hitting for a game-high 24 points and adding a team-high four assists. In the Bulldogs’ 69-67 win over Delaware Valley University, Simsick scored 14 points, 11 in the first half. Senior Steven Ciotti (Pennsbury) handed out seven assists in the win. In DeSales’ 59-58 regular season loss to Misericordia, Simsick scored 11 points, all in the first half.
Sophomore Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) had nine points in Ithaca’s 68-62 loss to Skidmore College on Tuesday in the team’s season final.
Sophomore John Ryan (William Tennent) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 77-74 loss to Gallaudet University in Saturday’s season finale. In the Nittany Lions’ 84-76 upset of previously unbeaten Lancaster Bible College, Ryan contributed 17 points.
Junior Mekhi Bryant (Pennsbury) totaled 11 points and dished out five assists in Holy Family’s 75-69 win over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday. In Holy Family’s 68-63 loss to Concordia College, Bryant finished with 12 points. In the Tigers’ 82-70 win over Georgian Court, Bryant contributed 18 points after knocking down 4-of-7 from deep range.
Scott Brown Jr. (Abington) had four points and three rebounds in Lock Haven’s 85-62 loss to Kutztown University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 87-84 overtime win over Cheyney, Amir Hinton (Abington) finished with 25 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and four steals. In last Saturday’s 73-69 loss to Millersville, Hinton had a monster double-double with a team-high 24 points to go along with 14 rebounds and three assists. In Lock Haven’s 105-84 loss to West Chester, Hinton scored 27 points to go along with nine rebounds, both of which were game highs.
West Chester junior Matt Penecale (Abington) has been selected as a first-team Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Majoring in both exercise science and physics, Penecale has accumulated a 3.645 GPA in his three years at West Chester, and the point guard was chosen as one of just 152 individuals from across all major college divisions to be picked for this honor. Penecale becomes the Golden Rams’ first CoSIDA All-District selection since the turn of the century, and this accolade officially makes Penecale a CoSIDA Academic All-American candidate. On the court, the junior leads West Chester and ranks seventh in the PSAC in both total assists (116) and assists per game (4.5). Starting in all 26 games this season, Penecale tops the squad with an 85.0 (108-of-127) free throw percentage, and he is currently sitting second on the squad, averaging 10.5 points a game. The Golden Rams recently clinched the No. 2 seed in the PSAC Tournament following a big win over Shippensburg University and the team earned a first round bye.
Penecale contributed 10 points and six rebounds in West Chester’s 78-59 win over Shippensburg on Wednesday. In West Chester’s 105-84 victory over Lock Haven, Penecale had seven assists.
Sophomore Max Wagner (Pennridge) scored 17 points in Kutztown’s 85-62 win at Lock Haven on Saturday. Anthony Lee (Abington) netted 14 points, and senior Demetrius Bennett (Plymouth Whitemarsh) added six points. In Wednesday’s 102-91 loss to East Stroudsburg, Lee scored a game-high 28 points, Wagner added 11 and Bennett contributed three points, one assist and one rebound. In last Saturday’s 93-59 win at Cheyney, Lee had 17 points and six rebounds and was 5-of-9 from three-point land. Wagner contributed 11 points and five rebounds while connecting on his lone 3-pointer of the day. Bennett added four points and an assist. In KU’s 95-81 win over Millersville, Lee netted 20 points, which included a 12-for-13 effort at the free throw line. He also had five rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Wagner finished with seven points, and Bennett contributed four points in four minutes. In Kutztown’s 92-85 double overtime win over Shippensburg, Wagner contributed 14 points and seven rebounds. He now has 1,348 points in his career, ninth in program history.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Albright senior Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) was named MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year. In
addition to being named player of the year, Lofton earned first team honors. The CB South graduate became the first Albright player to be named MAC Commonwealth Women’s Basketball Player of the Year since the 2014-15 season while earning first team honors for the second straight season. She heavily filled up the stat sheet this season by ranking in the top 10 in the conference for most of the major statistical categories. Lofton led the MAC Commonwealth in steals at 2.7, ranked fourth in scoring at 14.0 PPG, fifth in assists at 4.0 and is seventh in rebounding with 7.8 RPG. She was also fourth in blocks, averaging 1.7 per game, and became the first Lions women’s basketball player in program history to complete a triple-double against Stevenson on Jan. 24.
Lofton reached the 1,000-point milestone for her collegiate career between Albright and her freshman year at West Chester after leading all scorers with 20 points in Albright’s 62-54 loss to Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth championship game on Saturday. The CB South graduate also added five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. In last Saturday’s 62-57 win over Lycoming, Lofton led the way in scoring with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field while tallying five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals in the win.
Deja Rawls (Abington) scored 10 points in Siena’s 68-59 win over Canisius on Friday.
Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Council Rock South) contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists in Holy Family’s 68-63 loss to Chestnut Hill on Wednesday. In Holy Family’s 72-65 loss to Concordia, Hofstaedter dished out a game-high 17 assists to go along with 14 points. In the Tigers’ 77-59 win over Georgian Court, Hofstaedter contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists.
Freshman Irisa Ye (North Penn) had career-highs of 18 points and six rebounds in University of the Sciences 80-77 loss to Chestnut Hill on Saturday. She made all six of her free throw attempts and added two assists and two steals. Jess Huber (North Penn) scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting in 10 minutes off the bench, and Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) had nine points and six rebounds. With her three three-pointers, Vitelli moved into second in the program’s single season record with 67 this season and sole possession of eighth all time with 129 for her career. The loss snapped an 18-game winning streak, which was the third longest active streak in the country. In last Saturday’s 71-50 victory at Nyack, Ye scored six points and added a career best three steals in her first career start.
Junior Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) scored 15 points in the University of Michigan’s 71-65 win over No. 13 Maryland on Thursday. Munger connected on 4-of-5 shots from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. She also had five rebounds and two assists. In Michigan’s 93-87 loss to Minnesota, Munger had 10 points.
Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) contributed 12 points and four rebounds in Emory’s 57-50 win over Brandeis.
Larissa Leyes (Upper Dublin) scored 11 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 83-63 win over Neumann University. In Gwynedd’s 61-28 win over Clarks Summit, Leyes had nine points, connecting on three of he team’s nine three-pointers on the night.
Senior Michael Harris (Abington) scored 16 points in American University’s 57-52 loss to Bucknell on Saturday. It was the first loss for AU since Dec. 17. In American’s 61-54 win over Boston University, Harris had six rebounds.
Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) finished one rebound shy of a double-double after totaling 10 points, nine rebounds, a career-high five blocks and three assists in the University of Scranton’s 59-48 overtime victory over Juniata on Saturday. With the 21st victory, the #11 Lady Royals won their third straight Landmark Conference championship and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which begins on Friday. In Wednesday’s 67-45 win over Moravian in a Landmark Conference semifinal, Mason posted game-highs of 10 rebounds and five assists. In Scranton’s 64-47 win over Susquehanna, Mason contributed 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Sophomore Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) paired game highs of 21 points and 15 rebounds in Ursinus College’s 62-56 loss to Johns Hopkins in a Centennial Conference first round game on Tuesday. In last Saturday’s 76-60 loss to Gettysburg, Konstanzer had 18 of her team-high 22 points in the second half, making 9-of-13 field goal attempts and adding three steals.
Freshman Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) scored 12 points in Cabrini’s 71-64 victory over Neumann University on Saturday. With the win, Cabrini claimed its fifth Colonial States Athletic Conference title in six years.
Sajanna Bethea (Pennsbury) had six points and seven rebounds in Saint Peter’s 62-40 loss to Fairfield on Monday night.
Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) scored 10 points in Kutztown’s 84-64 win over Lock Haven on Saturday in the final regular season game. In Wednesday’s 72-64 win over East Stroudsburg, Taylor Thames (North Penn) scored 13 points and Wright added eight points.
Senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) contributed 13 points, six rebounds and one assist in Chestnut Hill’s 80-77 win over the University of the Sciences on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 68-63 win over Holy Family, Tumasz hit all five of her three-pointers and scored 18 points. She also had two rebounds, one assist and a steal. In Chestnut Hill’s 103-66 win at Felician, Tumasz scored 17 points and also totaled three rebounds, two assists and three steals. In Chestnut Hill’s 91-84 overtime win over Wilmington University, Tumasz scored 22 points and also added four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Allison Gallagher (Souderton) tallied 12 points and pulled in five boards in Widener’s 58-53 win over Alvernia last Saturday. Emma Gardy (Centra Bucks South) and Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) netted seven points each. In Widener’s 60-44 loss to Arcadia, Gardy scored seven points on 3-for-4 shooting.
Sophomore Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) registered 12 points and 12 rebounds in Aracadia’s 49-45 win over Hood last Saturday. In Arcadia’s 60-44 win over Widener, Dunn had 19 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the floor and 5-of-7 shooting from the foul line.
Redshirt junior Erin Maher (North Penn) scored 10 points and also had eight rebounds and two assists in Jefferson University’s 62-50 win over Holy Family on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 70-56 win over Goldey-Beacom, redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 23 points. The PW graduate hit 8-of-14 shots, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. In last Saturday’s 69-59 loss to Caldwell, Williams finished with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Senior Kaitlin Kelly (Pennsbury) scored 10 points in the final game of her career in DeSales University’s 76-59 loss to FDU–Florham on Saturday. She connected on a pair of threes, giving her 170 for her career and ranking her third all-time. In the Bulldogs’ 59-48 win over Misericordia, Kelly scored 10 points.
Aigner Bookard (Cheltenham) scored nine points in Cairn University’s 79-64 loss to Rosemont. Bookard averaged 9.6 points per game for the season.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Jack Myers (Wissahickon) recorded a career-high 12 saves in Elizabethtown’s 10-5 win over St. Mary’s (Md.) in its home opener on Saturday afternoon. In last Saturday’s 7-4 win over DeSales, Myers, making his first start since Feb. 26, 2016, stopped three shots in a winning effort. He made crucial saves on both DSU shots on goal in the third quarter when the Jays opened a multi-goal lead.
Sophomore Michael Sowers (Upper Dublin) contributed one goal and four assists in No. 18 Princeton’s 18-15 loss to No. 16 Virginia on Saturday.
Sophomore Evan Scott (Upper Dublin) scored his second career goal in Ursinus College’s 9-8 loss to Frostburg State in last Saturday’s season opener.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Jacob Snavely (Central Bucks South) earned a spot on the CSAC Honor Roll for the week ending Feb. 18. Snavely scored four times, two on the man up, in Gwynedd’s 10-5 win at Drew.

Anthony Paone (Central Bucks South) went 14-for-19 on faceoffs, scored once and also added three helpers in Widener’s 12-6 win over Swarthmore on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 18-6 loss to No. 1 Salisbury, Paone scooped nine ground balls and won 14-of-24 faceoffs.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Abby Kopytko (Council Rock North) recorded seven saves in goal in Elizabethtown’s 16-7 win over Hood on Wednesday.
Freshman Alison Felicetti (Upper Moreland) scored her first career goal with 11 minutes remaining in the second half and then scored her second three minutes later in Penn State Abington’s 21-4 loss to Roanoke on Saturday.
Freshman goalkeeper KiKi Brasher (Abington) collected 10 saves to mark her second straight game with double-digit stops in Shippensburg’s 14-6 win over Shepherd on Friday. Kyra Shank (Souderton) scored twice, and senior Allison Fugate (Pennridge) had a goal and two assists. In Monday’s 13-12 loss to Roberts Wesleyan, Fugate had two goals while Shank added a goal and an assist. Brasher recorded 13 saves – matching the most saves made by an SU keeper during the 2017 season.
Junior Amber Lambeth (Souderton) scored a goal in Temple’s 17-4 loss to #9 Princeton last Saturday. In the Owls’ 18-7 win over Monmouth, Lambeth had two goals.
Freshman MaryCait Dorley (Cheltenham) scored a goal in Millersville’s 21-11 win at Wilmington on Saturday.
Freshman goalie Nicole Wood (Souderton) recorded seven saves to pick up her first collegiate victory in Gwynedd Mercy’s 15-14 victory over Goucher on Saturday. Victoria Braeunle (North Penn) recorded eight draws, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. In Wednesday’s 24-7 loss to King’s, Braeunle had three goals and five draw controls. Braeunle and Tara Pellegrino (Pennridge) were tops with three groundballs each. Wood recorded seven saves in goal in her first career start.
Mikki Raymond (Abington) scored a goal in La Salle’s 18-6 win over Central Michigan on Sunday. In Wednesday’s 16-14 loss to Delaware, Maddie Dachowski (Pennridge) had two assists.
Makayla Bowman (North Penn) tallied five goals in Kutztown’s 19-6 win over Jefferson University on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 15-3 non-conference win over Holy Family, Bowman had two goals and three assists.
Emily Schulze (North Penn) and Maggie Stella (Central Bucks East) each tallied a pair of goals from their starting positions in No. 16 West Chester’s 20-4 victory over Georgian Court in the season opener on Saturday. Senior Sarah Gebre (Central Bucks West) caused three turnovers and registered four ground balls.
SOFTBALL
Senior Nikki Alden (William Tennent) delivered a two-run double in Villanova’s 10-5 win over Marist on Friday in Madeira Beach, Fla.
Sophomore Meghan Klee (Quakertown) had two hits in Shippensburg’s 7-6 win over King (Tenn.) last weekend. In the Raiders’ 4-3 loss to Catawba, two Quakertown alumni produced all three of the Raider RBIs as Klee ripped a two-run double and senior Maddie Mulhall (Quakertown) delivered an RBI single.
Kutztown junior Sara Keeny (William Tennent) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 18. Named to the NFCA’s Preseason National Player of the Year “Watch List,” Keeny is off to a hot start in her third season. The Golden Bear left fielder is hitting .452 in her first nine games with eight RBIs, slugging at an .806 clip and holding a .514 on-base percentage. Batting leadoff for KU, Keeny has already collected seven extra-base hits this year with three doubles and four triples in 31 at-bats. The speedy Tennent graduate leads Division II with her four triples and has also swiped five bases this season. Keeny is currently in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak and has struck out just four times in nine games. This is the second career PSAC East Athlete of the Week Award for Keeny.
Kutztown junior Jackie Morell (Bensalem) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Feb. 18. Morell has been excellent in all three of her appearances on the mound, holding a 1-1 record and miniscule 0.82 ERA. In 17.0 innings of work this season, the Bensalem native has struck out six batters and surrendered just two earned runs and one walk. Morell pitched a complete game in KU’s extra-inning victory over Mercyhurst at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament on Feb. 17, going eight innings and giving up just one earned run. The junior’s 0.82 ERA ranks third in the PSAC, and she holds a career record of 5-3 with a 2.79 ERA.
Keeny had both of Kutztown’s hits – including a double and run scored – in a 12-1 loss to Felician University last Sunday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. In KU’s 5-4 win over Mercyhurst, Keeny was 2-for-4, and Cheyenne Jones (Harry S Truman) had a hit and scored a run. In Kutztown’s sweep of West Virginia State (6-2) and New Haven (9-4), Keeny went a combined 3-for-6 with a triple and two RBIs, adding one walk and three runs scored. In the win over West Virginia State, Jones brought home the winning run with an RBI single.
Emily Mayhew (Pennridge) hit a two-run home run and finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored in Bloomsburg’s 14-8 win over Charleston on Sunday in Hartsville, S.C. Mayhew also had a hit in the Huskies 4-3 win over Fairmont State later that day. In Saturday’s 5-3 win over Lees-McRae, Mayhew was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly that drove in a pair of runs.
Freshman Marissa Govan (William Tennent) accounted for two of her team’s four hits in East Stroudsburg’s 3-1 loss to No. 17 Molloy in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Albright senior Tim Resch (Springfield Township) finished 13th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.51 at the MAC Championships.
Gettysburg sophomore Ogden Leyens (Upper Dublin) earned a bronze medal in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.91 at the Centennial Championships on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall College. He also was part of the third place 400 medley relay that finished with a time of 3:25.17. On Friday, Leyens was part of the first place 200 freestyle relay that posted a time of 1:23.39. He placed 16th in the 500 freestyle (4:45.57).
Arcadia junior Mark Preedy (William Tennent) was the runner-up in the 200 breaststroke at the 2018 MAC Championships last weekend. He also was part of the 400 freestyle relay that posted a program record 3:09.70. Senior Jacob Schellinger (North Penn) placed third in the 200 butterfly final with a time of 1:59.00. On day three of the championships, Schellinger placed fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.44. Earlier, he earned the third seed in the event with a program record 51.72. Preedy earned the silver medal in the finals of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.09. He set a program record in the preliminaries with a time of 58.62. Schellinger and Preedy were part of the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.09). On day two of the championships, Schellinger and Preedy were part of the first place 400 medley relay that posted a program record time of 3:30.75. On day one of the championships, Preedy was part of the first place 800 freestyle relay that posted a program record time of 6:54.09. Schellinger was part of the 200 medley relay that finished fifth with a time of 1:37.41.
Ursinus junior Maxwell Coulter (Pennridge) set a program record in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries at the Centennial Conference Championship on Saturday, erasing a six-year team standard with a time of 58.71. The junior completed the 100 breaststroke final in 59.33, good for 11th place. On Friday, junior Travis Venables (Pennsbury) was part of the 200 free relay that finished in fourth with a school record time of 1:25.10, edging last year’s mark by 0.33 ticks. Venables also finished 10th in the 50 free (21.50).
Shippensburg sophomore Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) placed third – his third All-PSAC performance of the meet – in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:14.25 at the 2018 PSAC Championships on Saturday. He also was part of the seventh place 400 free relay with a time of 3:11.69. On day three of the meet, Beyer placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:35.90 – a two-second PR that ranks ninth all-time in school history for the event. He also posted the second fastest time in the prelims (4:40.28). He was part of the seventh place 800 free relay (7:08.84). On day two of the PSACs, Beyer reached the ‘A’ final of the 200 freestyle with a preliminary time of 1:42.71 that ranks 10th all-time in school history for the event. He swam 1:43.25 in the evening to finish eighth overall. On day one of the championships, Beyer achieved an All-PSAC second place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a personal best of more than 13 seconds with a time of 9:34.99. The time moves him into third on the SU all-time Top 10 list for the event.
Evan Sherkness (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of West Chester’s second place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:30.91 on day one of the PSAC Swimming Championships.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
In the 200 butterfly, Arcadia sophomore Rachel Samson (Council Rock North) touched the wall at 2:15.60 on the final day of the 2018 MAC Championships last weekend. She also was part of the fourth place 400 freestyle relay that posted a time of 3:39.82. On day three of the championships, Samson claimed the bronze in the 400 IM with a time of 4:45.59. On day two of the championships, Samson was part of the fourth place 400 medley relay that finished with a time of 4:03.55, more than five seconds faster than their seeded time. On day one of the championships, Samson was part of the 800 freestyle relay that posted a program record time of 7:52.41 to finish third. The CR North graduate was also part of the 200 medley relay that finished fourth (1:51.13).
Towson junior Haley Sutton (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of the 400 medley relay that captured bronze with a time of 3:42.39 at the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming and Diving Championships last weekend. She also was part of the 200 medley relay that finished fourth with a time of 1:41.70.
University of Buffalo senior Eve Kosten (North Penn) took home a fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.98 on the final day of MAC Championships on Saturday. Kosten was named to the Second Team All-MAC. It was the first all-conference recognition of her career. On Friday, Kosten finished tied for second in the 50 free with a time of 22.85 seconds, earning 16.5 points for her career-best performance.
Ursinus sophomore Margrethe Leis (Springfield Township) finished 12th in the 100 free with a time of 1:58.37 on day three of the Centennial Conference championships. On day two of the championships, Leis was part of the 800 free relay that placed first in the B final with a mark of 7:49.73.
La Salle senior Sydney Szopo (Upper Moreland) took fourth in the three meter with a score of 290.90 on the final day of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championships. Olivia DiStefano (North Penn) took sixth in the 100 free, finishing the race in 50.64 seconds. On the third day of the championships, DiStefano broke her third record in as many days, breaking her own record of a year ago in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.33 to take second place. On day two of the championships, Szopo took ninth in the one-meter dive with a final score of 244.35. On day one, DiStefano was part of the 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:42.95 to set a new record. The old record of 1:43.08 was set in 2013.
Freshman Leah Barrett (Council Rock South) was part of Millersville’s 400 freestyle relay that posted a season best time of 3:39.53, two seconds faster than he previous time, at the 2018 PSAC Championships on Saturday. This time put the group is sixth place in program history.
Sammy Grogan (Council Rock North) had a pair of top 8 finishes at the MAC Swimming Championships, earning points for Widener with a seventh place clocking in he 400 IM at 4:51.56 and an eighth place time of 1:10.69 in the breaststroke. Lauren Griffith (Central Bucks East) was part of the 200 free relay team that finished second with a 1:37.85 clocking. On day two of the championships, Griffith tied for sixth in the event at 25.00. Grogan was part of the 400 medley relay team that earned third team all-conference honors, touching the wall in 4:01.82. On day one of the championships, Griffith and Grogan were part of the eighth place 200 medley relay team.
Penn State senior Tommie Dillione (Council Rock North) reached the consolation finals in the 200 freestyle at the Big 10 Championships for a second consecutive year, swimming a season best and B-cut time of 1:46.87 in the preliminaries and finishing 16th overall in 1:47.56 in the finals. Dillione was also part of 800 freestyle relay that finished sixth in 7:07.32.
Alison McLaughlinn (North Penn) was part of Kutztown’s 400 free relay team that finished 10 with a sixth all-time mark of 3:37.11 at the PSAC Championships on Saturday. On Friday, Bridget Perdoch (Pennsbury) broke out a career-best time of 1:08.15 in the 100 breaststroke, finishing 20th in the preliminaries and qualifying for the C Final. It moved her up from 10th to sixth in school history. McLaughlin was part of KU’s seventh place 800 free relay that posted a time of 7:56.73, eighth all-time at Kutztown. On day two of PSACs, Perdoch and McLaughlin were part of the 400 medley relay that posted a time of 4:06.48 for 10th place. McLaughlin posted a season-best time of 2:00.77 in the 200 free preliminary. On day one of PSACs, Perdoch was part of the 200 medley relay that finished 11th with a time of 1:52.08. McLaughlin posted a season-best time of 25.21 in the 50 free prelims.
West Chester junior Elizabeth Miller (Neshaminy) finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.98 at the 2018 PSAC Championships on Saturday. Emma O’Neill (Abington) took third in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.28. On day two of the championships, Miller was part of the first place 200 free relay team. On the first day of the championships, O’Neill finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:11.52, which was a ‘B’ time and she could be headed for the NCAAs next month. Freshman Jenna Fox (Council Rock South) made the podium with a seventh place finish (10:24.50). Miller finished fifth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.59.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Saint Joseph’s freshman Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) met IC4A qualification in the mile at the Saturday Night Fastrack Last Chance Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., on Saturday. Scarpill, who earlier in the week was named to the A-10 Indoor Track and Field Rookie Team in the mile after leading all freshman performers in the event with a time of 4:16.32, crushed his season-best time in 4:14.46. The performance earned the freshman fifth place in the field of 28 and qualified him for his first collegiate IC4A meet, finishing .04 seconds under the qualifying standard (4:14.50). Sophomore David Bryant (Upper Dublin) went 52.24 for his first collegiate 400m to place 11th in a field of 23. In last weekend’s 2018 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships, Scarpill finished 10th in the mile with a time of 4:19.94. Bryant finished 17th in both the 60m (7.19) and 200m (23.16).
Kutztown University senior Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield Township) was named the PSAC Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12. Johnson broke an 18-year school record in the 200m at the Fastrack National Invitational in Staten Island. He won his heat and finished in second place in 21.72 seconds, breaking Keith Crowell’s record from 2000 by .06 seconds. It is Johnson’s second school record along with the outdoor 4x100m relay. It was also an NCAA Provisional mark, the first of the year for Johnson, who ranks third in the PSAC in the 200m, eighth in the region and 34th in Division II.
Kutztown redshirt senior Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury), the 2016 champion, just missed qualifying for the finals of the 60m with a season-best time of 8.65 at the PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Ogi Ogbonna (Harry S Truman) was 10th in the prelims with a time of 8.65. Ryan Benner (Pennridge) ran into the KU record books in the 200m. The sophomore just missed qualifying for his first career final, finishing ninth in a career-best 22.42 seconds for seventh in school history. Freshman Tommy Oliver (Bensalem) was in 11th place in the heptathlon with 2,308 points through four events. His best finish was fourth place in the high jump (5-11.25). He also finished seventh in the shot put with a season-best 31-10.25, 11th in the long jump and 12th in the 60m in a season-best 7.60.
Shippensburg senior Alex Balla (Quakertown) was named the 2018 PSAC Indoor Championships Track MVP for claiming conference championships in the 3K on Sunday and the 5K on Saturday. Bella became the sixth man in PSAC history to achieve the long-distance double at the indoor conference meet. Balla edged his teammate, Rob Moser, for the second straight day in claiming Sunday’s 3K title with a time of 8:34.75. It is his fourth PSAC place-winning performance in the event, having finished eighth in each of the last two years and seventh as a freshman in 2015. On Saturday, Balla finished first in 15:00.26 at the 2018 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Austin Howell (Pennridge) was part of the first place distance medley relay that posted a time of 10:29.19. He also was part of the second place 4×400 relay that posted a time of 3:19.61. Howell finished fifth in the 400 (49.53).
La Salle’s Fran Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) finished 12th in the 5,000-meter run at the Atlantic 10 Conference Track and Field Championships.
Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) was part of Widener’s 4×200 relay team that crossed the finish line in 1:32.12, finishing third on day one of the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. At last weekend’s Keogh Invitational, Ludlow placed second in the 60 meter with a personal best time of 7.16. He won the triple jump clearing 12.48 meters.
Bloomsburg senior Austin Kline (Central Bucks West) placed fifth in the 400m dash and then anchored the 4x400m relay team that finished eighth to earn separate spots on the podium at the 2018 PSAC Indoor Championships. Kline posted an indoor personal best time for the second straight day in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 49.63 during Sunday’s finals. He ran a 49.80 during qualifications. The 4×400 relay team, which also included James Wilson (Central Bucks South), posted a time of 3:28.03. Wilson finished 15th in the 800m run with a time of 2:01.91. Matthew Hart (Pennsbury) finished 15th in the shot put (13.77 meters). On Saturday, Hart shattered his personal best in the weight throw, coming up with a toss of 16.21 meters in his final attempt of the afternoon to finish in fifth place overall. His previous best was 15.67m at the Houghton December Classic. Wilson was part of the 4x800m relay that crossed the finish line in 8:09.71 to place sixth overall.

Duquesne junior Shannon Taub (Council Rock South) collected a silver medal in the pentathlon with a total score of 3,520 at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships last Saturday, buoyed by a first place finish in the high jump (1.70m) to go with a second place showing in the shot put (12.34m).
Monmouth junior Allison Taub (Council Rock South) won the shot put with a mark of 45’5.75” and Brianna Stratz (Central Bucks South) won the 800 meters in 2:12.11 at the MAAC Championships last Saturday. Amber Stratz (Central Bucks South) placed fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:13.67 and also placed sixth in the mile with a time of 5:01.29.
Shippensburg junior Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) finished sixth in the 5K with a time of 18:09.33 at the 2018 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
La Salle senior Kaitlin Poiesz (Central Bucks South) was 17th in the 3000-meter event with a time of 10:18.45 at the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Emily Magnant (Hatboro-Horsham) and Allison King (North Penn) were part of West Chester’s 4×400 relay that finished sixth with a time of 3:58.98 at the 2018 PSAC Championships.
Kathleen Stevenson (North Penn) was part of Bloomsburg’s 4x400m relay team that posted a time of 3:58.52 to finish fifth at the 2018 PSAC Indoor Championships. On day two of the championships, Stevenson, in her first collegiate conference championship, earned a spot on the podium in the long jump as she finished eighth with a mark of 5.30 meters. On day one, Stevenson was part of the 4×200 relay team that finished first with a time of 1:46.37.
WRESTLING
Elizabethtown junior Dan Smith (Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned an inspired overtime victory at 149 in Elizabethtown’s 24-21 loss to Johns Hopkins. Smith trailed Connor Joyce 6-2 entering the third period but rallied with an escape, takedown and two-point near fall in the final 48 seconds to go in front 7-6. Joyce’s 1:30 of riding time sent the match into overtime, but Smith kept his momentum rolling and wrapped up the win, 9-7, with a takedown 24 seconds into the extra session.
Gettysburg sophomoreColin Devlin (Upper Dublin) worked his way through the consolation bracket at 149 pounds on the opening day of the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional on Friday. Devlin won his first match by a major decision 12-2 before getting knocked to the wrestleback. He rebounded with a second period pin to advance to he consolation quarterfinals.
Kutztown University’s Jeff Reimel (North Penn) was the runner-up at 184 pounds at Saturday’s NCAA Super Region I Championships, earning a trip to the NCAA National Championships in two weeks in Iowa. Reimel won his opening semifinal match 8-3 in which he tallied more than 3.00 of riding time to clinch his spot at nationals and put him in the regional title match. He faced off against Mercyhurst’s Dakota DesLauriers, a two-time national qualifier and 2015 All-American, and dropped a 4-1 match to snap an eight-match win streak. Reimel finished a career-best second place after finishing third at 197 last year. Earlier, Mikey O’Brien (North Penn) won a 15-8 decision at 157 in his opening match. In Kutztown’s 29-8 win over Shippensburg in its regular season finale, O’Brien put on a show at 157, scoring an eye-opening 17 points in just 1:58 in his 17-0 tech fall victory. It was his team-leading seventh straight win. At 184, Reimel controlled his opponent for nearly the entirety of the match and earned a 6-1 decision, upping his match winning streak to six.
Bruce Graeber (Neshaminy) earned a 3-0 decision at 285 in Bloomsburg’s 22-20 come-from-behind win over Bucknell last Saturday. At the Warriors Winter Open, Graeber earned a 6-2 decision over Sean Dee from Binghamton University.
