Sophomore centerfielder Matt Meyers (Cheltenham) was 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles and three walks in Penn State Abington’s doubleheader against Stevenson on Saturday. The Nittany Lions lost both games. Trey Guaglionona (Abington) singled and drove in a run an 11-3 loss in game two.
Jared Melone (North Penn) had a pair of hits, including an RBI double, in La Salle’s 7-6 loss to Elon on Saturday.
Brandon DiBona (William Tennent) and Zach Szumigala (Pennsbury) each had a hit and two RBIs in Chestnut Hill’s 12-8 loss to Southern Connecticut State on Saturday. Szumigala’s hit was a double. In Friday’s 10-2 win over the University of New Haven, Robert Slagle (Norristown) was 3-for-3 with a triple, home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Campion had a pair of hits, including a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Patrick Kelley (Central Bucks West) earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits and one run while walking five and fanning five in five innings of work.
Redshirt junior outfielder Casey Saverio (Hatboro-Horsham) hit two home runs, leading No. 25 East Stroudsburg to a 14-1 win over California (Pa.) on Saturday. Saverio finished the game 2-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs. Redshirt junior shortstop Conner Crookham (Hatboro-Horsham) also went deep for the Warriors.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Tim Abruzzo (Pennridge) contributed 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in Navy’s 77-74 loss to Lehigh.
Freshman Evan Slone (Souderton) contributed 12 points in third-seeded Arcadia’s 71-67 upset of number two Lebanon Valley in Wednesday’s semifinal game of the MAC Commonwealth Championship.
Josh McWilliams (Council Rock North) scored a team-high 15 points while teammate Wes Brooks (North Penn) had 14 in McDaniel’s 68-54 loss to Gettysburg in the first round of the 2016 Centennial Conference Tournament on Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 62-52 win over Valley Forge, Brooks and McWilliams finished with nine points each.
Senior guard Mark Wonderling (Souderton) registered team highs of seven rebounds and three assists in his final game at Ursinus College, a 91-69 loss to Gettysburg on Monday night.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Julian Hyden (Bensalem) was named to the All-CSAC first team. The Bensalem grad is the team leader in scoring (18.4 ppg), rebounding (8.3 rpg), steals (39) and three-pointers (44). He ranks
third in the CSAC in both scoring and rebounding. He has averaged over 26 points a game in his last four contests, including three 30-point performances. Hyden was the team’s leading scorer in 11 games.
Hyden captured the final CSAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 21. Hyden helped the Griffins to a 2-0 week to close out the regular season, averaging 21.5 points and shooting 58 percent from the floor. He netted his third game of the season with 30 or more points in an 85-79 win at Cairn to clinch the number one seed for the CSAC playoffs. He was 11-of-14 shooting and 7-of-9 from the line while adding a pair of three-pointers to finish with a game-high 31 points. Hyden also snared nine rebounds and handed out three assists. In the Griffins’ 90-87 win at Cabrini, he contributed 12 points.
Hyden scored 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double in Gwynedd Mercy’s 84-70 win over Neumann in the CSAC Tournament Championship on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 92-84 semifinal win over Rosemont, Hyden had 14 points and Aaron Morgan (Council Rock North) kicked in 11.
Freshman guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) netted a career-high 30 points with six three-pointers to go along with three rebounds and a pair of blocked shots in Moravian’s 107-98 win over Muhlenberg on Tuesday in the team’s season finale.
Anthony Lee (Abington) scored a team-high 16 points in Kutztown’s 81-77 win over No. 17 West Chester on Wednesday. Josh Johnson (Norristown) added 15 points and eight rebounds while Ryan Connolly (Souderton) had 12 points. With the win, the team won the PSAC East regular season title.
Freshman Matt Penecale (Abington) scored 18 points in No. 17 West Chester’s 81-77 loss to Kutztown on Wednesday in the regular season finale.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Kaitlin Kelly (Pennsbury) scored eight points in DeSales University’s 69-68 win over Manhattanville College on Wednesday to advance to the MAC Championship game.
Eastern University freshman Regie Robinson (Upper Merion) was named MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year. Robinson finished the season ranked seventh in the MAC and first on the team in scoring, finishing the season with 395 points and averaging 15.8 points per game. She posted a .470 shooting percentage, totaled 218 rebounds, recorded 47 steals and posted 23 blocks. Robinson also received Honorable Mention All-MAC recognition.
Senior Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) connected on a jumper with 3.2 seconds to go to lift St. Joseph’s to a 59-57 win over Richmond on Saturday. Andrews finished with eight points. In Wednesday’s 87-54 win over Davidson, Andrews contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Junior Lauren Crisler (North Penn) finished with 13 points and six rebounds in American University’s 55-50 loss to Loyola Maryland on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 65-52 loss to Navy, Crisler recorded 10 points.
Senior Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) set a new career high with 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting (78.6 percent) in Princeton’s 94-57 win over Cornell on Saturday. In Friday’s 77-48 win over Columbia, Wheatley had 10 points and four rebounds.
Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) scored 14 points off the bench in Albright’s 69-58 win over Messiah on Saturday in the title game of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. Alysha Lofton (Central Bucks South) had four points, nine rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Senior Mallory Mugnier (Abington) contributed 10 rebounds, three steals and a block in Penn State Abington’s 78-66 loss to SUNY Poly in the NEAC quarterfinal on Tuesday night.
Cairn University senior Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) received Colonial States Athletic Conference honorable mention recognition. Eppolito finished her career at Cairn with 1,107 total points, 256 assists and 100 steals.
Freshman Deja Rawls (Abington) scored seven points – including a pair of free throws to ice Siena’s first win over Marist in 12 years on Friday, 60-57.
Junior guard Rachel Falkowski (Central Bucks South) scored 10 points in East Stroudsburg’s 79-69 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday to advance to the PSAC quarterfinals.

Cabrini freshman Riley White (Plymouth Whitemarsh) named the Colonial States Athletic Conference
Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 21. The freshman goalie helped lead the 17th-ranked Cavaliers to a season-opening 12-6 win over Haverford. After surrendering three first-quarter goals, White settled into his collegiate debut, posting seven saves. Three of his stops came in the second quarter when the Cavaliers turned a 3-2 deficit into an 8-3 cushion. White also added three ground balls and a caused turnover.
White notched three saves in one half of action in Cabrini’s 9-8 overtime win over No. 5 Lynchburg on Saturday.
Nick Guglielmi (Council Rock South) scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 6-5 loss to Lycoming on Saturday.
Sophomore Anthony Paone (Central Bucks South) scooped up seven ground balls in Widener’s 8-7 loss to Swarthmore on Saturday.

SOFTBALL
Lehigh senior third baseman Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) was named one of 30 candidates for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award. The award encompasses community, classroom, character and
competition. A two-year captain for the Mountain Hawks, Decker has excelled in all four areas as one of the top hitters and third basemen in the region and as a behavioral neuroscience major who hopes to pursue a master’s degree in Educational Leadership before applying to Physicians Assistant School. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. In the classroom, Decker posts a cumulative 3.73 GPA in Lehigh’s rigorous Behavioral Neuroscience program while minoring in Psychology. A three-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Decker is a two-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree and garnered CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2014. She has made the Dean’s List (GPA of 3.60 or better) in six of her first seven semesters, including a 4.0 GPA in the fall of 2015. Decker has received seven Lehigh Faculty Athletics Council Academic Awards for posting GPAs of 3.20 or better and has been recognized on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic Team. In addition to her softball captain duties, Decker has been involved in Lehigh’s chapter of Student-Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC). In Lehigh’s Leadership Academy, Decker graduated from the Emerging Leaders program. She also is involved in Lehigh’s Student-Athlete Mentor and PRIDE programs, which helps Lehigh first-year student-athletes adapt to college life. Last spring, Decker was recognized with Lehigh’s Class of 1904 award, which is awarded on the basis of character, scholarship, qualifications indicating promise of future leadership and extracurricular activities as a scholarship award for a student’s senior year. She also earned Lehigh’s Contribution to Student Life award, which recognizes underclass students who have significantly contributed to the improvement of the quality of student lift. Decker enters her senior year as a three-time All-Patriot League selection (two-time first team) and a two-time first team NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region selection. In 2013, Decker became the first Patriot League student-athlete to be named the league’s Player and Rookie of the Year after winning the Patriot League ‘triple crown,’ leading the league in batting average, home runs and RBIs. She won her second consecutive Patriot League Player of the year award in 2014. Decker owns a .387 career batting average, which ranks seventh in school annals, and she is third in home runs with 22. She has drawn 88 walks, which is second in school history.
Decker was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored in Lehigh’s 14-2 win in five innings over Youngstown State on Saturday.
Freshman Sara Keeny (William Tennent) went 7-for-8 with seven runs scored and four stolen bases as the leadoff hitter in Kutztown’s wins over Ursuline (9-1) and Shepherd (8-0) on Sunday on the final day of the Tusculum College’s Pioneer Classic in Greeneville, Tenn.
Senior Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) had her best day of the young season as she went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored in Robert Morris University’s 15-5 loss to Binghamton on Saturday. The home run was her first of the season and 10th of her career while the double was her second of the season and 27th of her career, moving her into sole possession of seventh place all-time at RMU in the latter category.

In Bloomsburg’s 5-2 loss to the University of Charlestown, sophomore Emiy Mayhew (Pennridge), who hit six home runs as a freshman, led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run. In Sunday’s 6-5 win over Lees-McRae, Mayhew doubled and scored the first run of the game.

Penn State junior Bob Bantley (Upper Dublin) placed 14th in a personal best of 1:36.59 in the 200 freestyle at the Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday. His time was a ‘B’ cut time. He also was part of the 200 medley relay that finished in a season-best 1:27.53.

University of Buffalo’s Eve Kosten (North Penn) posted a time of 51.51 to finish 15th overall in the 100 freestyle at the MAC Championships on Saturday.
Marist sophomore Megan Berardelli (Wissahickon) placed sixth on the three-meter board (261.65) at the 2016 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday.
Senior Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was part of the 400 free relay that achieved an All-PSAC finish of third place in 3:32.25 at the 2016 PSAC Championships. She also placed seventh in the 100 free (52.86). Sophomore Nicole Martorella (Norristown) place ninth in the 200 breaststroke on the strength of a 2:24.52 time.

Penn sophomore Jeff Wiseman (Council Rock South) placed second in the 500 with a time of 1:03.65 at the 2016 Indoor Heptagonal Championships at Cornell University on Sunday. He also was part of Penn’s 4×400 relay team that finished fourth with a time of 3:17.74 and also included Drew Magaha (Upper Moreland). Penn finished fourth as a team.
Nick Petit (Central Bucks South) was part of Widener’s fifth place distance medley relay that recorded a time of 10:49.00 at the MAC Indoor Championships on Friday.
Austin Cooper (Upper Merion) was part of IUP’s distance medley relay that finished fifth overall with a time of 10:15.97 at the 2016 PSAC Indoor Championships on Saturday.
Pitt junior Chris Spadero (Council Rock South) recorded a personal best distance of 14.80 in the triple jump during the preliminaries at the 2016 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday.
Bloomsburg’s James Wilson (Central Bucks South) was 17th in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.10 at the 2016 PSAC Championships. He also was part of the 4×800 relay that finished fifth with a time of 8:01.18 and the distance medley relay that was eighth with a time of 10:37.74.
East Stroudsburg junior Sean Hagerty (Pennridge) finished fifth in the long jump (22-0 ¾) at the 2016 PSAC Indoor Championships. Eric Conard (Souderton) finished sixth in the heptathlon (4,414).
Lock Haven junior Julien Freeman (Harry S Truman) was seventh in the long jump with a season-best mark of 21-11-50 at the 2016 PSAC Championships.
Ian Davies (Central Bucks West) was part of Shippensburg’s 4×800 relay that posted a time of 8:08.73 and finished sixth at the 2016 PSAC Championships on Sunday. Jalen Ramsey (Norristown) finished sixth in the long jump (21’).
Kutztown redshirt sophomore Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury) set a new school record in the 60m hurdles
with his first NCAA provisional mark of the season, claiming the title at the 2016 PSAC Indoor Championships. He finished in 8.27 seconds, setting a new school record and winning by .01 seconds. Bullaro tied the old school record (8.34) in the preliminaries. Sophomore Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield) finished fifth in the 400m dash with a career-best time of 49.64 seconds. Ron Smith (Neshaminy) was part of the 4x400m relay that finished third with a time of 3:18.72, the third fastest time in school history. Chris Varichione (Quakertown) finished fourth in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 55-09.25, ranking him third all-time in school history. He placed 12th in the shot put (45-05.00). Brandon Raguz (Central Bucks South) finished second in the pole vault with an existing NCAA-provisional mark of 15-03.50.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Natalie Ross (Souderton) was part of Messiah’s distance medley relay that finished in a time of 12:55.94 for second place at the MAC Championships at Lehigh University on Friday. The team earned First Team All-MAC honors. Holly Seipt (North Penn) was part of the 4×400 relay that finished in sixth place in a season-best time of 4:22.25.
Bloomsburg’s Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) finished 12th in the 5000 meters in 18:25.36 at the 2016 PSAC Indoor Championships. She also finished 15th in the 3000 meters with a career-best time of 10:38.85.
Melanie Vlasic (North Penn) was part of Pitt’s distance medley relay that placed first in its heat and 10th overall at the ACC Indoor Championships. Vlasic ran the 1600m leg of the race. Although she did not qualify for the finals, Vlasic recorded a career best time in the one mile (4:49.10).
Dara Lindsey (Central Bucks East), Emily Dusellier (Souderton) and Emily Magnant (Hatboro-Horsham) were part of West Chester’s 4×400 relay team that finished third with a time of 3:55.51 at the 2016 PSAC Championships. Lindsey added a fifth place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 58.54. Christine Johnson (North Penn) recorded a fifth place finish in the shot put, registering an 11.66m throw.
Victoria Matthews (Abington) was part of East Stroudsburg’s first place 4x800m relay team that set school, meet and facility records in a time of 9:23.48 at the 2016 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. She also was part of the fifth place 4×400 relay (3:58.24) that posted the seventh best time in ESU history. She finished tied for ninth in the high jump (5-1 ¼).
Penn State senior Tori Gerlach (Pennridge) finished second in the 3K at the Big Ten Championships with a time of 15:50.49.
Freshman Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) was part of Shippensburg’s seventh place distance medley relay that posted a time of 12:46.71 at the 2016 PSAC Indoor Championships. Freshman Allison King (North Penn) finished sixth with a time of 25.63 in the 200m and Lindsay Sheehan (Pennridge) was eighth with a time of 25.72.
Moravian sophomore Casie Cronk (Quakertown) captured first place in the high jump (1.62m, 5-3.75) and sophomore Beth Ann Davies (Quakertown) finished first in the pole vault (3.04m, 9-11.75) at the 2016 Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Sarah Hughes (Souderton) finished fourth in the 3,000 meter run (5:15.61) and also finished fourth in the one-mile run (5:15.61).
Kutztown freshman Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) finished 12th in the 800m run with a season best mark of 2:21.47 at the 2016 PSAC Indoor Championships.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Junior Christian Lizana (Pennridge) contributed four kills in No. 9 Vassar College’s 3-0 loss to No. 1 Springfield on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to No. 12 NYU, Lizana had five kills.
WRESTLING
Elizabethtown sophomore Philip Torresani (Hatboro-Horsham) reached the quarterfinals in the 125-pound weight class at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday. The Hatboro-Horsham graduate absorbed a 7-3 loss to two-time defending national runner-up and top-ranked Lucas Malmberg (Messiah). To get to Malmberg, Torresani beat Oswego State’s Jake Yankloski 11-6 in his opener and earned a technical fall over Matt Moy (Case Western) 20-4 (7:00) in round two. He worked past Lake Laughman (York) 7-3 in the third round of the consolations.
Kutztown University’s Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) achieved his goal of a return trip to nationals
with a Super Region I championship on Saturday. The CR South grad went 4-0 at 157 and punched his second consecutive ticket to the NCAA National Championships on March 11-12 in Sioux Falls, S.D. He opened his day with a 5-3 win in the semifinals, sending him to the championship match and clinching a spot in nationals. Martoccio, ranked fifth in Division II at 157, squared off against a former national champion, a two-time All-American, the top-ranked 157-pounder in the region and the second-ranked in the country in the final against Notre Dame’s Jonatan Rivera. Martoccio controlled the action and won a 6-2 decision to win his first regional title. He avenged a previous loss to Rivera from his sophomore year, a 3-1 decision at regionals. Martoccio is now a four-time regional medalist, the third wrestler in program history to do so. He will carry a 26-3 record to Sioux Falls and a career mark of 87-35, the third most wins in school history.
