BASEBALL
Matt Hollenbeck (Hatboro-Horsham) threw six scoreless innings in Georgetown’s 12-0 win over Brown on Saturday. The Hatboro grad allowed just four hits while striking out four. The shutout was Georgetown’s first since April 21, 2013, versus Seton Hall.
Ben Houser (Central Bucks East) had a pair of hits in 10th-ranked Northampton’s 8-2 loss to Harford Community College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 13-2 win over Raritan Valley Community College, Houser was 3-for-5.
Centerfielder Andrew Check (Central Bucks West) pounded a solo home run over the left field fence in the ninth inning in Eastern University’s 6-5 win over Wesley College on Monday. It was his first career home run as an Eagle. Josh Freed (Souderton) earned the save.
Junior Daniel Chou (Wissahickon) singled, stole second and scored in Caltech’s 6-4 loss to Providence Christian on Saturday.
Craig Lepre (North Penn) contributed a sacrifice fly in Albany’s 7-5 win over Marist.
Starting pitcher Kristopher Davis (Central Bucks East) improved to 3-0 on the season, striking out seven over 6.1 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) in Elizabethtown’s 11-4 win over Catholic on Saturday. Davis has struck out six or more batters in each of his starts. With no walks allowed on Saturday, Davis owns a 28:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 21 innings. Ryan Schamp (Central Bucks West) picked up an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In Thursday’s 8-3 win over Lebanon Valley, Schamp hit a three-run home run. It was his first career round-tripper.
Junior Steve Wright (Council Rock South) singled and scored in Gettysburg’s 5-3 loss in 10 innings to Wisconsin Lutheran College on the final day of its Spring Break trip to Florida last Saturday.
Delaware Valley College sophomore centerfielder Kyle Wenger (Souderton) garnered Freedom Conference Player of the Week honors for the week ending March 15. It’s the first time this season that an Aggie has been recognized for the award as Wenger was honored for his performance in the final six games of the squad’s Spring Break trip in Fort Pierce, Florida. During that stretch, Wenger was 10-for-20 from the plate and a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts. A preseason All-American, Wenger kicked off the week with a 3-for-4 performance in a 7-6 win over Kenyon College. It was the first of three multiple-hit games for Wenger, and he finished the week with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. The Aggies finished their trip with a 6-4 record.
Freshman leadoff hitterPat Fitzgerald (Central Bucks South) was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored in Penn State Abington’s 8-1 loss to Ursinus on Thursday.Max German (Council Rock North) drove in the only run in the third inning with a two-out single. In Wednesday’s 6-3 loss to Stockton, Matt Meyers (Cheltenham) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Fitzgerald had an RBI double.
Catcher Jon Mullin (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and also threw out two runners at second base in Messiah College’s 9-5 win over Albright on Tuesday.
Ken McCormick (Pennsbury) drove in the first run of Philadelphia University’s 3-2 win over Villanova with a one-out single in the first inning. Casey O’Donnell (Hatboro-Horsham) threw a scoreless inning of relief. In Thursday’s 6-2 win over Bloomfield in Philly U’s CACC opener, McCormick was 3-for-5 and knocked in a pair of runs.
Ryan Kelly (Hatboro-Horsham) threw a scoreless inning of relief, striking out a pair and allowing no hits in St. Joseph’s 9-2 win over Bucknell on Tuesday.
Freshman Dan Morrin (Central Bucks East) tossed the first three innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in a no-decision in Moravian’s 5-3 loss to the University of Scranton on Sunday. Matt Hanson (Central Bucks West) singled and scored a run.
Freshman centerfielder Greg McDonough (Wissahickon) doubled and had a pair of RBIs in Widener’s 12-9 loss to Neumann University on Tuesday.
Junior pitcher Zachary Crim (Hatboro-Horsham) threw a five-hit complete game shutout in Chestnut Hill’s 4-0 win over Nyack College on Tuesday. The Hatboro grad scattered five hits while fanning seven and walking just two in nine innings. Brandon DiBona (William Tennent) was 1-for-1 with a run scored. In Thursday’s 6-2 win over the University of the Sciences, sophomore Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Whitemarsh) threw a scoreless seventh and eighth innings, allowing one hit and striking out one. In Chestnut Hill’s 4-0 win over the University of the Sciences in game two of the twinbill, junior Robert Andris (Springfield) threw three scoreless innings of relief to earn the save.
Ryan Henritzy (Council Rock North) was 2-for-4 with a double, home run, three RBIs and two runs scored in Lock Haven’s 10-8 win over Shippensburg in game two of a twinbill on Tuesday. In an 8-2 loss in game one of the doubleheader, Henritzy was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Clay Sebesky (Central Bucks East) hit his first career home run in Kutztown’s 11-6 loss to East Stroudsburg in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday. In KU’s 6-5 loss to ESU in the nightcap, Brandon Martinez (North Penn) had two hits.
Dylan Tice (Pennridge) was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, one RBI and a run scored in West Chester 3-2 loss to Millersville on Wednesday. He also gunned down a runner at the plate on a relay throw from Tyler Coleman (Quakertown). Robert Knox (Upper Moreland) singled and drove in a run. In West Chester’s 6-2 win in Wednesday’s doubleheader split with Millersville, Knox singled and drove in a run. In Tuesday’s 5-4 win over Millersville in a twinbill split, Tice was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI while Coleman was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Freshman second baseman Aden Tully (Council Rock North) was 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBIs and a run scored in East Stroudsburg’s 11-5 win in game two of a doubleheader split with Millersville on Sunday. In last Sunday’s 11-1 win over Kutztown, redshirt sophomore shortstop Conner Crookham (Hatboro-Horsham) had a pair of hits. In last Monday’s 11-6 win over Kutztown, redshirt sophomore outfielder Casey Saverio (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed an RBI single. In the Warriors’ four-game series with Kutztown last Sunday and Monday, Tully was 5-for-12 (.417) with two RBIs and three runs scored. ESU won three of the four games.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Delaware Valley senior Zach Sibel (Pennsbury) was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference’s annual sportsmanship team. The MAC Sportsmanship Teams recognize student-athletes who exemplify great character and demonstrate the act of sportsmanship both on and off the field. These student-athletes were selected by the head coaches from their respective teams. They represent the team, institution and conference with high integrity and exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches and opponents.
Junior Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) finished with 13 points and six assists in Villanova’s 93-52 win over Lafayette in Thursday’s opening round of the NCAA Tournament. On Saturday, the No. 1 Wildcats were defeated by the No. 8 seed North Carolina State 71-68 in an NCAA Tournament contest. Arcidiacono finished with four points and four assists. Villanova closed out its season with a 33-3 record.
DeSales freshman Aaron Burton (Cheltenham) was honored as the D3hoops.com Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year. The Cheltenham freshman also earned Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year honors. He finished the year averaging 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He shot 44.6 percent from the field for the season.
Randolph-Macon senior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the D3hoops.com All-South Region second team and also earned second team All-District recognition. A first team All-ODAC selection, Badger led the ODAC and is 21st in the nation with 5.3 assists per game. He was third on the team in scoring with 9.4 points per contest and led the Yellow Jackets with 50 steals. Badger was named the MVP of the ODAC Tournament after averaging 19.3 points, 5.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in three tournament victories. Badger finished his career with 473 assists, the third highest total in program history and fifth highest total in ODAC history. The Yellow Jackets finished the season with a 28-3 mark, tying the program mark for victories in a season. Randolph-Macon won 25 consecutive games, a program record. The Yellow Jackets went 16-0 in ODAC play and became the first team in conference history to go undefeated during the regular season and win the conference tournament. Randolph-Macon appeared in its sixth straight NCAA Tournament, a program record, and reached the Elite Eight.
Junior Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds in Temple’s 90-77 win over George Washington in the second round of the NIT on Sunday. Temple held a 38-26 advantage on the glass. Temple advances to the quarterfinals where the Owls will face the winner of Monday’s Texas A&M/Louisiana Tech contest. In Wednesday’s opening round 73-67 win over Bucknell, Bond had a career-high four blocks to go along with a game-high four steals.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
With President Barack Obama looking on, junior Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes in No. 13 Princeton’s 80-70 win over ninth-seeded Green Bay in first round action in the NCAA Tournament at the University of Maryland’s XFINITY Center on Saturday. It was Princeton’s first ever NCAA Tournament win. Princeton’s win is just the second ever for an Ivy League program in NCAA Tournament play. Improving to 31-0 on the season, the eighth-seeded Tigers will face top-seeded Maryland on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Widener freshman Allison Gallagher (Souderton) was tabbed the D3hoops.com 2015 All-Mid-Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year. Gallagher, who also earned the Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the
Year title, established a new school record for points scored during a freshman season with a team-high 380 points in 25 games played. The Souderton alum’s 15.2 points per game was good for 11th in the Commonwealth Conference, while her .429 shooting clip ranked 12th in the conference. She also finished the season with 64 defensive and 49 offensive rebounds for a total of 113. Gallagher had 31 steals and dished out 35 assists. Additionally, she had 10 blocks, good for second on the squad.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Freshman midfielder Anthony Paone (Central Bucks South) scooped up seven ground balls and won 18-of-22 face-offs in Widener’s 12-7 win over the University of New England on Wednesday.
Garrett Rosiek (Wissahickon) contributed one goal and four assists in Aurora University’s 15-5 win over Elmhurst on Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 10-9 loss to Dennison, Rosiek contributed three assists.
Senior Patrick Nolan (Plymouth Whitemarsh) caused a game-high three turnovers in No. 10 Cabrini’s 8-6 win at No. 3 Stevenson on Saturday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Cortnee Daley (Hatboro-Horsham) scored five goals to lead No. 10 University of Louisville to a 16-9 victory over Vanderbilt on Wednesday afternoon.
Michele DeVincent (Upper Dublin) was credited with four draw controls in California’s 20-14 loss to San Diego State last Sunday.
Senior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) picked up three ground balls on the defensive end in Holy Family’s 11-7 loss to Bloomsburg on Thursday. Senior Caitlin Carrezola (Neshaminy) tallied one goal.
Carly Ball (North Penn) had three draw controls in Bloomsburg’s 7-6 upset of No. 13 West Chester on Saturday. In Thursday’s 11-7 win over Holy Family, Ball contributed a goal.
Hannah Vogel (Hatboro-Horsham) had two goals, three assists and four ground balls in Millersville’s 18-11 loss to nationally-ranked Mercyhurst on Saturday.
Junior goalkeeper Ally Frymoyer (Upper Merion) made 10 of her season-high 14 saves in the second half of Shippensburg’s 11-7 win over Chestnut Hill on Tuesday. Frymoyer achieved a career-best single-game save percentage of .667 in stopping two out of every three shots sent her way in the game. Senior Garrie Grenfell (North Penn) scored a goal and caused a turnover. In Saturday’s 18-8 loss to East Stroudsburg, Grenfell had two goals and an assist while Frymoyer had eight saves.
Stephanie Hogan (Central Bucks West) contributed a goal and had five draw controls in Eastern University’s 15-9 loss to Swarthmore on Thursday.
Sophomore midfielder Taylor Dachowski (Pennridge) scored a goal in St. Joseph’s 13-5 win over Stetson on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 13-9 loss to Villanova, junior defender Caroline Hagan (Hatboro-Horsham) scooped up two ground balls and added two caused turnovers.
Emily Hawkins (Cheltenham) had a team-high three draw controls and three ground balls in Keystone College’s 16-0 loss to Cabrini on Saturday.
Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) delivered an all-around effort, recording two goals, four ground balls and two draw controls in No. 2 Lock Haven’s 12-5 win over IUP on Sunday.
SOFTBALL
St. Joseph University senior first baseman Ashley Alden (William Tennent) was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the week ending March 15. The softball team compiled a 7-2 record on the week. Batting .323 over nine games, Alden finished the week with a team-high 15 RBIs and added 10 hits, including four home runs, to go with six runs scored. After driving in a pair versus Hampton and Fairfield, Alden finished 4-for-7 with five RBIs and three runs scored against Niagara and South Dakota. Finishing the week with a .839 slugging percentage, Alden added three home runs and five RBIs in the final five games of the week to help the Hawks improve to 13-6 on the season. This is the second time Alden has been named A-10 Player of the Week as she was previously selected the conference honoree on March 3.
After Ashley Alden (William Tennent) was walked, her sister, Nikki Alden (William Tennent) made it hurt with a two-run homer to put St. Joseph ahead 10-6 on its way to a 14-6 win over Rhode Island in six innings on Sunday in game one of a twinbill. After being walked in every at-bat of game one, Ashley Alden made the Rams pay with a two-run home run to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead on their way to a 9-3 win over URI in game two. Nikki Alden earned her second win of the season on the mound, throwing a complete game and allowing three runs on seven hits in her first career home contest. Ashley Alden was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Junior Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI in Lehigh’s 10-0 win over Penn in the opener of a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday.
D’Anna Devine (Pennsbury) delivered a pair of clutch hits in University of South Florida’s 3-2 win over Central Connecticut State on Monday. The Pennsbury grad collected an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to give USF a lead it would not lose. In Tuesday’s 9-0 win over Hartford in five innings, Devine, who was 2-for-2 with a run scored, continued her solid play at the plate with her third RBI single in two games. In USF’s 7-0 win over Canisius, Devine was 2-for-2 with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored. Devine shares the team lead with a .413 batting average for a USF squad that has won 20 of its last 21 games.
Maria Spinosa (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a run scored in Millersville’s 6-5 loss in 11 innings to Kutztown on Sunday. Gabbie Berry (Norristown) and Heather Lutz (Hatboro-Horsham) were also 2-for-2. Lutz had a double and a run scored. In Millersville’s 6-2 loss to KU in game one of the twinbill, Berry was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.
Morgan Lewis (Council Rock North) threw seven innings of two-run ball with just one of those runs earned in Susquehanna’s 7-2 win over Drew last Sunday. She scattered five hits and struck out five. In Susquehanna’s 7-6 win in game two of the twinbill sweep, Lauren Creamer (Neshaminy) had an RBI single.

Maggie Shaffer (Hatboro-Horsham) earned a complete game four-hit victory in Guilford’s 3-1 win over Randolph College in game one of a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. In Monday’s 10-0 win over Keystone College, Shaffer threw a one-hit shutout.
Nicole Casagrande (Hatboro-Horsham) earned the win in UMBC’s 5-2 win over Rhode Island last Monday on the final day of the UMBC Spring Classic. The Hatboro grad allowed eight hits in the seven inning complete-game win, walking one and striking out one.
Sophomore shortstop Rae Holden (Abington) is hitting .318 (7-for-22) after East Stroudsburg’s nine-game trip to Florida. The Warriors were 5-4 on the trip.

Dominique Pinto (Council Rock North) delivered an RBI single in the University of Connecticut’s 7-4 win over Pacific on Saturday in day two of the 2015 Louisville Slugger Invitational in Stockton, Calif. In Saturday’s 11-2 win over Grand Canyon in six innings, Pinto crushed a solo home run over the centerfield wall. In Tuesday’s 11-4 win over San Diego State, Pinto was 2-for-4 with a double, home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Lauren Klepchick (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-4 with a run scored in Rhode Island’s 5-2 loss to UMBC on the final day of the UMBC Spring Classic last Monday.
Erin Quense (Neshaminy) hit a grand slam in West Chester’s 12-1 win over Mansfield in a doubleheader sweep on Thursday. Sarah Derstine (Souderton) tripled in a run during the Rams’ five-run first and finished the day 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Laura Altenburger (Neshaminy) hit an RBI single. In West Chester’s 14-0 win in game one, Derstine was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. She finished the day 4-for-5 with five RBIs.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Senior Ashton Leyens (Upper Dublin) anchored Gettysburg’s bronze medal winning and record-setting 400 freestyle relay at the NCAA Division III Championship on Saturday at Shenandoah, Texas. Leyans swam near the front of the pack the entire way in an extremely tight race that came down to the final yards. The Bullets finished third with a blistering time of 2:57.93, which would have won last year’s race. With their time, the Bullets also lowered their own school and Centennial Conference records for the second time in one day. The relay team earned first team All-America recognition. Leyens finished 22nd in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.23. Gettysburg finished 12th out of 54 teams.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Kutztown’s Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield) finished first in the 100m dash in a new PSAC qualifying time of 22.63 at the College of William & Mary’s Tribe Invitational on Saturday. He finished seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 11.39. Teammate Ron Smith (Neshaminy) was second in the 200m dash with a new PSAC qualifying time of 22.70. Brandon Raguz (Central Bucks South) finished in a tie for second in the pole vault with
a new PSAC qualifying vault of 4.40m. In the field, Chris Varichione (Quakertown) had his best performance in the hammer throw. His career-best 47.91-meter toss landed him in first place, clearing the PSAC standard and ranking him eighth all-time at KU. He finished sixth in the shot put (13.19m) and 11th in the discus (31.75m).
East Stroudsburg freshman Montel Johnson-Troupe (Pennsbury) posted a time of 22.09 in the men’s 200m at ESU’s opening meet at Washington and Lee, finishing third. It is a PSAC qualifying time and ESU’s 10th best time. He finished third in the 100m dash with a PSAC qualifying time of 11.07. Teammate Sean Hagerty (Pennridge) finished fourth in the long jump (20-1).
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Shippensburg freshman Lindsay Sheehan (Pennridge) finished second in the 100 meter dash (13.06) and posted a PSAC qualifying time in her third place finish in the 200m (26.17) at the Tribe Invitational hosted by the College of William and Mary on Saturday. Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was part of the second place 4×400 relay that posted a time of 4:06.80.
Temple sophomore Sydnee Jacques (North Penn) posted a season-best time in the 100m hurdles (15.94) at the Philadelphia College Classic on Saturday at Franklin Field.
East Stroudsburg sophomore Kelley Anne Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished in a tie for first in the high jump at the Warriors’ season-opening meet at Washington & Lee with a leap of 4-11 ½. She finished seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:10.16.
MEN’S TENNIS
University of Mary Washington 1993 graduate Matt Strickler (Quakertown) was among the 19 Eagles named to the CAC Men’s Tennis Silver Anniversary Team. The Silver Anniversary Team featured 25 former or current standouts.
Mohammed Ammouni (Bensalem) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles in Penn State Abington’s 9-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday. He was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-6 win. Thomas Vessels (Abington) was part of the third doubles team that earned a 9-7 win. In Tuesday’s 9-0 win over Rosemont, Ammouni was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-0 win while Vessels was part of the third doubles team that notched an 8-0 win.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore Michael Fehrs (Central Bucks West) contributed 11 kills to lead Stevenson offensively in the Mustangs’ 3-0 win over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday. It was his third straight game in double digits. Over that stretch, he is averaging 13.7 kills per match and 3.73 per set.
Andy Wilits (North Penn) had eight kills on 19 attempts to lead the attack in Ciarn University’s 3-0 loss to Marymount University on Friday.
WRESTLING
Bucknell senior Joe Stolfi (Souderton) saw his NCAA Championship run come to an end Friday as he was unable to compete due to an injury he suffered in a second round bout on Thursday. The three-time NCAA qualifier, who wrestled at 285, was scheduled to wrestle Pittsburgh’s Ryan Solomon in the consolation bracket. Stolfi, who was seeded 14th in his bracket, opened the NCAA Championships Thursday with a pin of South Dakota State’s JJ Everard. It was his 20th pin of the season and the 52nd of his career, which is the most in program history. Stolfi then faced Maryland’s Spencer Myers, who was coming off an upset of the No. 3 seed. Myers advanced to the quarterfinals on an overtime pin. A senior who still has one more year of eligibility available, Stolfi finished the season with a 37-8 record and is now 99-37 in his career to rank seventh on the program’s all-time win list. His 37 victories this season place him second in the single season ledger behind only All-American Kevin LeValley’s 42 wins in 2009-10. Stolfi finished in the top 12 at the 2013 NCAA Championships and posted one win at the 2014 NCAA Championships. He is now 5-5 in his NCAA career. Stolfi became the third Bison to win an EIWA individual title when he claimed the heavyweight gold medal in 2014. He placed second at the event this year and is a three-time placewinner. The Bucknell record holder for pins in a season with 23 in 2013-14, Stolfi leads the nation in wins by fall this year (20). Last month, he eclipsed Brian Pitzer’s school record for career pins that had stood since 2000.
