Freshman Justin Guidos (Quakertown) struck out seven in three scoreless innings of relief in East Stroudsbur’s 9-1 win over American International on Thursday.
Matt Stevenson (North Penn) threw a scoreless ninth inning, striking out a pair, in Millersville’s 21-5 win over Concord on Thursday. Reliever Andrew Mayhew (Pennridge) got out of a bases-loaded two-out jam with a strikeout. In last Sunday’s 6-4 loss to Lake Erie in game two of a doubleheader split, Noah Hartwell (Council Rock North) struck out two in a perfect sixth, and Mayhew struck out the side in the seventh.
Junior Cole Swiger (Upper Dublin) was 3-for-5 with a double, triple, RBI and three runs scored in Bloomsburg’s 10-4 win over Winston-Salem State in game one of a twinbill sweep on Saturday. In the Huskies 7-5 win in game two of the sweep, Jake Reed (Quakertown) was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Colton Hooker (Upper Moreland) was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. In last Saturday’s 11-3 win over the University of the Sciences, Swiger was 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored. In last Sunday’s 9-4 win over USciences, Swiger (2 RBIs, run) and Reed (double) were both 2-for-5.
Senior Jason Mulvey (Bensalem) was 3-for-4 in Gwynedd Mercy’s 5-0 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Nick Mulvey (Bensalem) and Dave Tatoian (Pennridge) both had a pair of hits. Cameron Culver (Harry S Truman) worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen
Junior Shaun Stackhouse (Council Rock South) was 1-for-2 with three RBIs in Cabrini’s 7-3 victory over Augustana College in Winter Haven, Fla., on Tuesday.
Mike Christy (North Penn) had an RBI in each game in Elizabethtown’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Arcadia last Sunday.
Sophomore Colin Kennedy (Hatboro-Horsham) didn’t allow a hit through the first 3.2 innings and had seven strikeouts over his first four innings in La Salle’s 13-6 win over Albany on Saturday. He finished the day with seven strikeouts and scattered five runs on five hits over 4.2 innings. In La Salle’s 7-6 setback to Rider last Sunday, Kennedy threw three shutout innings of relief, allowing only one hit.
Danny Long (Pennridge) was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored in Monmouth’s 3-1 loss to No. 9 East Carolina in Greenville, N.C., last Saturday. Dan Klepchick (Central Bucks South) suffered his first loss in over a year since his first career start at Dallas Baptist on Feb. 18, 2018. He was effective for MU, allowing just two runs in five innings while striking out four.
Junior pitcher Nick Hopely (Harry S Truman) threw two shutout innings and picked up his second win in as many days in Penn State Abington’s 11-10 win over Neumann University on Saturday in Lakeland, Fla. Brett Guaglionona (Abington) had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run. Ryan McCarthy (Pennsbury) had an RBI double. In Friday’s 4-1 win over Rose-Hulman, Hopely closed out the game with three consecutive outs to earn the win.
Justin Horn (Upper Dublin) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and four runs scored and Jared Melone (North Penn) was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in No. 21 West Chester’s 18-0 win over Jefferson University last Sunday. In West Chester’s 6-5 win over Saint Rose in 10 innings, Horn notched a walk-off single. Senior Jon Fisher (Plymouth Whitemarsh) struck out eight and allowed just one earned run in six innings in his first appearance of the year. In West Chester’s 3-0 win over Saint Rose in game two of the twinbill, Melone contributed an RBI single plating Horn.
Timothy Brodhag (William Tennent) doubled and drove in three runs in Jefferson University’s 14-4 loss to East Stroudsburg.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Andre Mitchell (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the All-Landmark Conference Second Team. It
is the second career honor for Mitchell, who was also named to the second team a year ago. The PW graduate led the team in scoring (14.5 points), assists (3.0 per game) and steals (1.9 per game) while ranking third in rebounding at 4.2 per game. He led the league in free throws made (126) and ranked third in the conference in free throws attempted (154). He also finished second in steals and fifth in free throw percentage (81.8). Mitchell became the 45th player in school history to score 1,000 career points, doing so when he had 30, including 28 in the second half of a 78-74 Landmark Conference victory over Susquehanna on Jan. 19. He finished 25th on the team’s all-time scoring list with 1,174 points. Mitchell played in 104 career games with 90 starts while averaging 11.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals. His streak of 61 consecutive starts came to an end on Dec. 29, 2018.
Senior Zack Muredda (Pennridge) finished with nine points, 10 rebounds and four steals in his final game for the Bears in Ursinus College’s 67-60 loss to Johns Hopkins in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference.
West Chester University senior Matt Penecale (Abington) was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-
District Men’s Basketball team for the second consecutive year. Penecale, a senior majoring in both exercise science and physics, was one of nearly 150 individuals from across all major collegiate divisions to earn this prestigious honor, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. In order to be eligible, student-athletes must possess a GPA of 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) and have participated in at least 50 percent of their team’s games. Garnering a spot on the First Team Academic All-District squad, Penecale will now advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. Penecale has notched one of the most impressive seasons of any individual in Golden Ram history this year. The point guard recently became the program’s all-time career assists leader while also scoring his 1,000th career point. Penecale is averaging 9.3 points a game and leads the squad with 76 assists in 20 games.
Penecale tallied a team-high six assists to go along with seven rebounds and nine points in West Chester’s 91-86 loss at Shippensburg on Wednesday. In West Chester’s 90-74 loss to Lock Haven, Penecale flirted with a triple-double, finishing the game with eight points, eight rebounds and 10 assists.
Junior Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) scored 11 points in Ithaca’s 82-77 loss to Skidmore College last Saturday in the Liberty League semifinals. In Ithaca’s 88-74 quarterfinal victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Thompson had 12 points, five boards and three assists. Thompson was 6-for-6 at the line, all of which came over the final 31 seconds of the contest.
Delaware Valley University sophomore Damian Washington (Upper Moreland) was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom second team for the first time in his career. Washington is the first
player to represent the Aggies on the all-conference squad since three different players earned the honor in 2016-17. The 6-5 sophomore led the team with 14.5 points per game and 24 blocks, and his 6.3 rebounds per game ranked second. In addition, he had 36 steals and dished out 34 assists while shooting 43 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc. In league play, he averaged 15.2 points, seven boards and 1.8 assists per game with 19 steals and eight blocked shots in 13 games. He scored in double figures in 21 of his 24 games played and eclipsed the 20-point plateau five times, including a career high 26 points at Wilkes. In a win at Manhattanville, he scored 11 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and six assists and his four double-doubles this season were a team best. “This is a terrific accomplishment for Damian as a sophomore,” head coach Mark Seidenburg said. “It is a testament to his hard work and dedication, and certainly his teammates play a huge role in this recognition as well. It’s now time for him to take the next step in his career and lead us to the next level.”
Penn State-Wilkes Barre junior Khalil White (Cheltenham) was named to the All-PSUAC first team. The Cheltenham graduate leads the team in scoring with an average of 15.2 points a game.
White led all scorers with 30 points off the bench, including 17-of-19 from the free throw line, in Penn State-Wilkes Barre’s 57-56 loss to Penn State York last Sunday.
Senior Evan Slone (Souderton) had nine points and five rebounds in his final collegiate game, Arcadia’s 88-76 loss at No. 22 Marietta in the second round of the Division III NCAA Tournament on Saturday night. Arcadia closed its season with an overall record of 23-6, a new high water mark for single season wins. The Knights captured the first-ever conference title in program history and made the first trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history. In last Saturday’s 92-56 win over Widener, Slone scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and also grabbed five boards.
Moravian senior guard Jimmy Murray (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the 2019 All-Landmark Conference first team for the second straight season after earning second team honors as a sophomore.
Murray averaged 13.9 points per game to go with 60 rebounds, 47 three-pointers, 43 assists and 23 steals. “Jimmy has had a tremendous career and his numbers speak for themselves,” coach Justin Potts said. “His consistency scoring the ball and ability to stretch the D has been very instrumental in our overall team success.”
Murray scored 14 points and also had four rebounds in Moravian’s 83-72 loss to No. 10 Hamilton (N.Y.) College in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday. He finished his career as the school record holder with 218 three-pointers made and fifth all-time with 1,522 points in 103 games. The Greyhounds completed the 2018-19 campaign with a 20-9 mark, tying the school record for wins in a season set last year. In Friday’s 86-65 opening round victory over Keene, Murray had 12 points, including 10 in the first half when he became the seventh player in school history to reach 1,500 career points. He also had a pair of steals and was 6-for-6 at the foul line. In Moravian’s 91-73 win over Susquehanna in the Landmark Conference semifinals, Murray had 14 points to go with six assists and three steals.
DeSales University junior Tracy Simsick (Souderton) was named to the All-MAC Freedom second team for the second straight year. He led the team and ranked seventh in the MAC Freedom in scoring at 15.2 points per game. Simsick is also ranked sixth in the MAC Freedom in three-pointers made (56) and 3-point shooting percentage (.361).
Sophomore Mike Bealer (Souderton) scored 10 points and Simsick and had seven points in DeSales University’s 83-59 loss to York College in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday. In last Saturday’s 78-66 win over Wilkes in the MAC Freedom Championship game, Simsick scored 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Bealer had the biggest bucket of the game, a lay-up on a backdoor cut that gave the Bulldogs a 73-66 lead with 1:47 to go.
Freshman guard Trevonn Pitts (Cheltenham) scored 18 points in Chestnut Hill’s 83-79 loss to the University of the Sciences on Saturday. In Chestnut Hill’s 105-93 loss to Wilmington University, Pitts had 10 points, three rebounds and two assists. In Chestnut Hill’s 86-81 loss to Jefferson University, Pitts – who was 9-of-14 (.643) from the floor – had 20 points. He was a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point territory.
Shaw University junior Amir Hinton (Abington) was named the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (CIAA) Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. Hinton became just the fourth player in program history to garner the award. He averaged over 30 points per game, leading not only the CIAA in scoring but the NCAA DII as well. Hinton is not only an offensive threat, he is one of the league’s top three defenders and assist leaders while averaging under 38 minutes per outing. Additionally, the Bears claimed their third consecutive Southern Division title.
Hinton scored a game-high 34 points and also had five rebounds, five steals and three assists in Shaw’s 77-66 loss to Virginia State in the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men’s Basketball Championship on Saturday. In Friday’s 70-58 win over Virginia Union, Hinton tallied 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. In Wednesday’s 62-55 win over Saint Augustine’s, Hinton led all scorers with 26 points after tallying just five points in the first half. In last Saturday’s 84-72 win over Johnson C. Smith, Hinton reached his 2,000th career point with a dunk to start the second half. He paced the Bears in scoring with 22 points, four rebounds, two steals and a block. In Shaw’s 65-62 win over Fayetteville State, Hinton finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Anthony Lee (Abington) scored 24 points in Kutztown’s 98-89 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. He just missed a triple-double, finishing with eight rebounds and nine assists and played all 40 minutes of the game. In Wednesday’s 112-92 loss to East Stroudsburg, scored a game-high 36 points to move into fifth all-time in PSAC career points history. Lee, who is second in KU history with 2,221 career points, has recorded double digits in points in 56 consecutive games. Lee shot 50 percent (10-for-20) from the floor, including 5-of-7 from long range and 11-for-11 from the free throw line while adding six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. His three assists put him over 300 for his career and he ranks ninth at KU with 302. In KU’s 106-98 double overtime loss at Millersville, Lee led all scorers with a game-high 36 points. He tied a career high with 12 rebounds, giving him his second straight double-double. Lee also contributed five assists and two steals and was 15-for-17 from the free throw line in tying a career high 50 minutes played.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Scranton University junior Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) earned first team honors and was named
the Landmark Conference’s Player of the Year. The CB West graduate has led the Lady Royals in scoring and rebounding most of the season, averaging 13.9 points per game and 7.5 rebounds a contest. She started all 29 games at forward and has scored in double figures 23 times throughout the year. Registering eight double-doubles this season, Mason’s best scoring performance of the year (and her career) came in Scranton’s 84-54 win over Moravian in the Landmark semifinals where she poured in 29 points to lead the way. Mason was named the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight National Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 17. It is the first time in her career she earned the award. Mason also earned Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week honors after posting a career day on the glass in a win at Goucher. After a six-point, three-rebound performance against Drew, Mason poured in a team-best 18 points and pulled down 19 rebounds in the win over Goucher. The 19-rebound performance was the best for a Lady Royals player since 2013 and a career-high for the junior. The double-double was also the seventh of the year for Mason as she now has scored in double figures in 20 of 25 games on the year.
Mason had eight points and five rebounds in Scranton’s 59-46 win over Johns Hopkins in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday. With the win, Scranton captured its eighth straight win to move to 27-2 overall and into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season. Scranton will host Christopher Newport on Friday. In Friday’s 69-49 opening round win over New England College, Mason registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. It was her ninth double-double of the season. It also marked the 23rd time this season she earned double figures. In Scranton’s 68-48 win over second-seeded Elizabethtown in the Landmark Conference Championship game, Mason finished with a double-double that included 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also had four blocks, three assists and two steals. In Scranton’s 84-54 win over Moravian in the semifinals, Mason scored a career-high 29 points, connecting on 11-of-16 shots from the floor and 6-of-7 from the foul line. She also had four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
Nicole Munger (Central Bucks West) was part of a senior class that was honored prior to the University of Michigan’s 59-49 win over Wisconsin on Sunday. The CB West grad, who had five points and four rebounds, is part of the second winningest class with 91 victories. She is averaging 10.3 points a game for a Wolverine squad that has won 20 games for the eighth straight season. In last Sunday’s 74-64 loss to Michigan State, Munger scored 14 points on the strength of four first-half triples.
University of the Sciences sophomore Irisa Ye (North Penn) was voted to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic
All-District Basketball Team, which is selected by CoSIDA and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Ye is a three-time Dean’s List honoree with a cumulative 3.91 GPA through three semesters as a Biomedical Sciences major. The sophomore is currently atop the CACC with a 55.6 field goal percentage. She is second with a 42.6 3-point percentage and fourth with an average of 16.1 points per game. This season Ye has been named the USBWA Division II National Player of the Week, CACC Player of the Week and the CACC Student-Athlete of the Monday for December 2018.
University of the Sciences junior Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) won her first career Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Week award for the week ending Feb. 17. It is the second career CACC award for the junior, who was also a Rookie of the Week as a freshman. Giuliani totaled five blocks, five steals and five defensive rebounds in just 15 minutes per game last week as USciences extended its season-long win streak to 13 games with victories over Holy Family and Nyack. After beginning the week with two steals and one block at Holy Family, the junior turned in career highs of four blocks and three steals to go along with four defensive boards against Nyack.
Ye had a team-high 18 points in just 14 minutes off the bench while tying her career-best with four steals in No. 5 University of the Sciences 84-54 win over Chestnut Hill on Saturday. Jordan Vitellia (Central Bucks South) added eight points. With the win, USciences captured its third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Southern Division title and its fourth in five years. In last Saturday’s 70-49 win over Goldey-Beacom, Ye had 13 points and a team-best four assists. Jess Huber (North Penn) came off the bench to score 11 points. In the Devils’ 55-39 win at Wilmington, Ye paced the offense with 15 points while Huber came off the bench to score 10.
Ursinus College junior Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team after earning second team honors in each of her first two seasons. Just the seventh first team All-
Centennial selection in program history, Konstanzer took her place as the premier post player in the conference. The Bears’ co-captain led the CC with 13 double-doubles to become the school’s all-time leader (35), ranking sixth in the conference in scoring (15.1 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (9.3 rpg). She led the league in total rebounds while standing second in steals (57), field goals (160) and offensive rebounds, third in defensive rebounds (148), fourth in total points (408) and sixth in blocks (28) and field goal percentage (45.1). Konstanzer scored at least nine points in all but four games and produced four games of at least 25 points. She had 28-point games against McDaniel, Dickinson and Gettysburg and powered her way to 19 points and 16 rebounds in the Bears’ 57-38 victory over Muhlenberg in the first round of the CC playoffs.
Konstanzer posted a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds in Ursinus College’s 74-51 loss to Gettysburg in the Centennial Conference semifinals. In the Bears’ opening round 57-38 win over Muhlenberg, Konstanzer scored 19 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. In the process, she picked up her 34th double-double of her career, which moved her to the top mark in program history. A force on the defensive end as well, she added five blocks and four steals.
Bridget Birkhead (Central Bucks East) scored six points on two three-pointers in Mount Saint Mary’s 62-57 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. In Mondays 61-44 win over Central Connecticut, Birkhead had five points, three rebounds and a steal. In last Saturday’s 77-59 loss to Bryant, Birkhead, who has 43 three-pointers on the year, scored six points. In Mount St. Mary’s 81-66 win over Wagner, Birkhead had eight points, including two threes, two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Emory University junior Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) was named to the All-University Athletic Association
second team. The 5-6 Chernow, a starter in 21 of the team’s 25 games, is second on the team’s scoresheet with a 13.0 points per game average, good for eighth among UAA players. Second on the club with 17 double-figure scoring contests, she has ranked as the Eagles’ leading scorer in five games, one of which was a 39-point explosion versus Transylvania, the high-water mark by a league player this season and the second highest total ever by an Emory player. Her 25-point outing in the team’s following outing versus Denison helped her capture USBWA National Player of the Week honors. One of the conference’s top three-point shooting threats, Chernow has drained a team-leading 49 triples (10th highest seasonal mark in school history) and her average of 2.0 treys per game is fourth in the conference. In addition to her scoring and three-point numbers, Chernow is second on the club and seventh in the league in assists average (3.4 apg).
Chernow had eight points and a team-high three assists in Emory’s 57-54 loss to fifth-ranked Trine University in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship on Friday. In last Saturday’s 78-54 win over the University of Rochester, Chernow scored 14 points, hitting five field goals on nine opportunities. She also had a pair of foul shots.
Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) contributed 11 points and four rebounds in Kutztown’s 88-61 victory over Lock Haven on Saturday to capture a share of the PSAC East crown and the top seed in the PSAC Tournament. In Wednesday’s 62-54 victory over East Stroudsburg, Wright knocked down a team-high eight free throws and scored 12 points. In KU’s 68-55 loss to Millersville, Wright scored 11 points off the bench.
Senior Aigner Bookard (Cheltenham) contributed nine points and four rebounds in Cairn University’s 69-60 loss to Keystone in its season finale. Bookard notched 168 steals to finish ninth all-time in Highlander history. In Cairn’s 70-60 win over Centenary in the opening round of the CSAC playoffs, Bookard had five points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Arcadia junior guard Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth first
team. It is the first time in her career she has been named all-conference. She is the second player in program history to receive first team honors. Dunn started all 28 games this season and led the Knights in scoring, averaging 17.0 points per game, which ranks third in the MAC Commonwealth. The CB South graduate finished the season with a .420 field goal percentage and shot .377 from beyond the arc. At the charity stripe, Dunn converted 105 of 126 free throw attempts for a .833 free-throw percentage. Dunn ranks second in the conference in free throw percentage and third in free throws made. In just two seasons, Dunn now ranks in the top 10 in program history in points (789), points per game (15.4), three-point field goal percentage (.322), three-point field goals made (69), free throws made (188) and free throw percentage (.793). Dunn scored 20 points or more in eight games this season, including a career-high 31 in a 79-77 win over Wesley. Dunn also had five double-doubles. On the glass, Dunn grabbed 6.1 rebounds per contest, which ranked second on the team. Defensively, she had 46 steals, which was third best on the squad.
Dunn scored 11 points – all in the third quarter – in Arcadia’s 67-61 loss to fifth-seeded Lebanon Valley in the opening round of the MAC Commonwealth Championships on Monday.
Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) had eight points and two steals in Cabrini’s 63-60 come-from-behind victory over No. 4 seeded Grove City on Thursday.
Freshman Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored seven points in 15 minutes in Bucknell’s 65-64 win over American on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 90-48 victory over Navy, O’Brien had seven points off the bench.
Freshman Emma Stanfield (William Tennent) came off the bench to score eight points in DeSales University’s 70-55 win over Middlebury in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. It was the team’s 22nd straight win and advanced DeSales to the Sweet 16. In last Saturday’s 75-59 win over Misericordia, Stanfield played big off the bench with seven points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Widener junior Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth first team. It is her second all-conference selection and came following a season in which she led the MAC Commonwealth in
scoring and ranked 18th in NCAA Division III with 20.0 points per game. She also tops the conference in three-point percentage, is fourth in free throw percentage and seventh in overall field goal percentage. Earlier this year, the junior became just the 12th player in Widener women’s basketball history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark in her career and has scored 14 or more points in 24 of the Pride’s 25 games this season. She was an honorable mention selection in 2017 and the MAC Commonwealth Rooke of the Year that season.
Rimmer was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 17. It is the fourth time this season she received the honor. Rimmer averaged 21.5 points per game to lead the Pride to a 1-1 week and the number three seed in the conference tournament. She scored 20 points with four rebounds, two steals and two assists against Arcadia on Tuesday. The junior followed that with 23 points, two rebounds, a steal and an assist in a 68-67 win over Lycoming to secure the third seed.
Rimmer scored a team-high 17 points in Widener’s 78-64 loss to Misericordia in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III Championships on Friday. The Pennridge graduate scored in double figures in 27 or 28 games this season. In Wednesday’s 65-41 opening round win over Wilson, Rimmer led the Pride with 11 points. Michael Sowers (Upper Dublin) had a five-point day with two goals and an assist in Princeton’s 14-12 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 12-11 overtime loss to Virginia, Sowers had four goals and two assists for six points. In Princeton’s 23-7 win over Monmouth in its season opener, Sowers began his junior year with two goals and five assists. The Division I leader in assists per game a year ago when he set the program record with 56, Sowers became the fourth Princeton player to ever reach 100 career assists.

Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Victoria Braeunle (North Penn) was named to the Atlantic East Women’s
Lacrosse Honor Roll for the week ending Feb. 24. The North Penn graduate scored a goal and dished out a career-high five assists in Gwynedd’s 18-8 win over Wilkes in its home opener. Braeunle added seven draws and six ground balls. The five assists was one shy of tying a single game program record.
Braeunle tied a personal best with a game-high seven goals and added two assists for nine points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 19-16 victory over Delaware Valley on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 18-8 victory over Wilkes, Braeunle had a goal, a career-high five assists and seven draw controls. In Gwynedd’s 22-9 loss to King’s, Braeunle contributed a goal and was tops in ground balls (6), draws (5) and caused turnovers (4). Jamie McCarney (William Tennent) tied a personal best with three ground balls.

Saint Joseph’s University senior attacker Francesca Donato (Neshaminy) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week. Donato recorded a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists in the Hawks’ 17-8 win over Temple. After an 11-point performance against the Owls last spring, Donato has now put up a blistering 18 points in her last two games against Temple. Her offensive efforts have helped lead the program to its first two-game winning streak against the Owls in the 22-game history of the series.

Spenser Gray (Quakertown) was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, one RBI and a double in UNC-Charlotte’s 14-5 win over Wagner on Saturday. The Quakertown grad has reached base safely in nine straight games and upped her hitting streak to three games. It was her fifth multi-hit game of the season. In an 8-0 loss to Valparaiso later in the day Saturday, Gray was 1-for-2 at the plate and is now 9-for-12 with six runs, three doubles and a stolen base in her last four games. In Wednesday’s 12-2 loss to North Carolina State, Gray was 2-for-3 with a run scored. In Monday’s 9-1 win over Winthrop, Gray was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Morgan Gianelle (Cheltenham) was 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch with one run scored, one RBI and one stolen base in Marist’s 8-1 win over Seton Hall. Albright senior Tyler Chamberlin (Springfield Township) finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:10.85 on the final day of the MAC Championships.
Ogden Leyens (Upper Dublin) was part of Gettysburg’s 400 free ‘B’ relay team that won the consolation final on the last day of the Centennial Conference Swimming Championships last Sunday. He also was part of the 800 free relay that had a runner-up performance in the ‘B’ final.
Shippensburg junior Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) turned in another All-PSAC performance in the 1650 freestyle at the 2019 PSAC Championships, posting a third place finish with a lifetime best of 16:10.22. It marks his second All-PSAC finish in the mile and his third top five, having placed third last year and fourth as a freshman. For the week, Beyer paced the Raiders with 60 individual points – finishing second in the 1000 freestyle, third in the 500 freestyle and eighth in the 200 freestyle while contributing to all three of SU’s freestyle races. Beyer achieved his second consecutive All-PSAC finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:37.22, resulting in third place. Beyer finished eighth in the 200 freestyle with a championship finals time of 1:44.09. He snuck into the ‘A’ finals with a morning prelim of 1:42.96 that is just 0.25 seconds off his PR. On day one of the championships, Beyer was part of the 800 freestyle relay that placed fourth with a time of 6:58.50.
Bloomsburg junior Corey Smith (North Penn) finished sixth in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:40.37 on the opening day of the 2019 PSAC Championships.
Ursinus senior Maxwell Coulter (Pennridge) took seventh in the 100 breast with a time of 58.96 at the Centennial Conference Championships last weekend. Coulter was part of the 400 medley relay that posted a third place time of 3:25.32, a time that broke the school record by almost three full seconds. He also was part of the 200 medley relay that clocked a 1:33.22 to outdistance the school record by nearly two seconds and capture third place. The Pennridge grad won the B final of the 200 breaststroke, finishing ninth with a time of 2:10.12. The time would have placed him sixth in the A final. Freshman William Clift (William Tennent) placed 15th in the 500 free with a time of 4:53.49, and he finished 14th in the B final with a time of 4:24.26. Travis Venables (Pennsbury) finished 16th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.42. He also was part of the 200 medley relay that placed third in the B final with a time of 1:37.73.

La Salle senior Olivia DiStefano (North Penn) was part of the seventh place 400 free relay that posted a time of 3:27.48 at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships last weekend. On the third day of the championships, DiStefano placed third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.21. She finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke. On day two of the championships, DiStefano tied for sixth in the 50 freestyle. Freshman Phoeobe Shaya (Council Rock South) earned a bronze medal in women's 1-meter diving at the A10 Championships and qualified for NCAA Zones. She also placed sixth in the 3-meter.
Alison McLaughlin (North Penn) was part of Kutztown’s 400 free relay that set a new season best time of 3:36.52 to take ninth and remain seventh on the program’s top 10 list at the 2019 PSAC Championships last weekend. McLaughlin posted a season-best time of 54.93 in the 100 freestyle to finish 36th. The North Penn graduate was also part of the 200 free relay team that posted a season-best time of 1:39.40 to finish eighth.
Ursinus sophomore Katelyn Moore (Hatboro-Horsham) finished sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:47.66 at the Centennial Conference Championships last weekend. Sophomore Katelyn Moore (Hatboro-Horsham) took eighth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.37. Junior Margarthe Leis (Springfield Township) qualified for the ‘B’ final in the 500 free and finished 15th. She also was part of the B final’s third place 800 free relay that posted a time of 7:55.29. Freshman Stephanie Chell (Central Bucks East) was part of the B final third place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:49.57.
Shippensburg freshman Natalie Wiley (Bensalem) finished 19th overall in the ‘C’ final in the 200 breaststroke at the PSAC Championships last weekend. On day three of the championships, Wiley entered the day with a season best of 1:10 in the 100 breaststroke but finished it with a prelim of 1:08.84 and a ‘C’ final time of 1:08.73 that resulted in 19th place and a new lifetime best. Freshman Olivia Guthy (Cheltenham) dropped six seconds off her collegiate best with a prelim time of 5:12.98 before coming back and improving by nearly three full seconds. Her lifetime best of 5:10.19 resulted in a 14th place finish out of the consolation final and missed 13th by just .03 seconds. On day two of the championships, Guthy knocked four seconds off her PR in the 200 freestyle. On day one, Guthy came within a few seconds of cracking SU’s all-time top 10 in the 1000 freestyle with a 30-second collegiate best of 10:44.59, resulting in a 14th place finish.
West Chester’s Lizzy Miller (Neshaminy) captured first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.33 at the 2019 PSAC Swimming Championships. She also led off the 200 medley relay in a time trial that broke the meet record and hit an NCAA provisional time (1:43.56). Emma O’Neill (Abington) finished third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:55.83.On day two of the championships, O’Neill was second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.69. Jenna Fox (Council Rock South) placed fifth in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.06. On day one of PSACs, O’Neill was third in the 1000 free with a time of 10:14.39. Fox placed seventh (10:23.61). Miller placed fifth in the finals of the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.56.

St. Joseph’s freshman Aidan Sauer (Pennsbury) finished seventh in the 800m with a time of 1:57.81 at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend. Freshman Michael Welde (Council Rock North) was part of the third place 4x400m relay that crossed the finish line in 3:19.93. Captain David Bryant (Upper Dublin) finished 13th in the 60m preliminaries in 7.19.
Villanova junior Casey Comber (Hatboro-Horsham) was named the Outstanding Track Performer of the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships. Comber was the individual BIG EAST champion in the mile and was part of another championship in the 4x800m relay and added a runner-up finish in the 5000 meters (14:18.59) to personally account for 20.5 of the Wildcats’ team points.
Villanova junior Steve Testa (William Tennent) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.69 meters and placed fifth in the triple jump at the BIG EAST Championships.
Widener senior Sean Stovall (Springfield Township) won gold in the 800-meter finals with a time of 1:55.95 at the MAC Championships last weekend. Matt Ludlow (Pennridge) placed fifth in the 60-meter dash, finishing the race in 7.17 seconds. On day one of the championships, Ludlow won the long jump finals out of a field of 22 jumpers, reaching a distance of 6.82 meters.
Ursinus sophomore Griffin McMann (Pennridge) finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 47-3 at the Centennial Conference Championships last weekend. Junior Brody Johnson (Central Bucks West) wound up seventh in the heptathlon with a total of 3,031 points. Junior Logan Mazullo (Central Bucks West) finished 18th with a personal best of 4:41.89.
Shippensburg redshirt freshman Shamar Jenkins (Souderton) was named the 2019 PSAC Indoor
Championships Outstanding Field Athlete after winning conference titles in both the long jump (22 feet 8 ½ inches) and the triple jump (lifetime best of 49 feet, 2 ¼ inches) at the PSAC Indoor Championships. He was the first Raider to achieve the horizontal jumps double since 2016. Jenkins earned All-Region honors in the triple jump. Freshman Yobani Moreno Estrada (Bensalem) reached the awards stand in the shot put with a seventh place toss of 48 feet, 7 ½ inches.

Gettysburg senior Danielle DeMichael (Central Bucks East) placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.77 at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships last Sunday. DeMichael was also part of the distance medley relay that finished eighth with a time of 13:33.85.
East Stroudsburg senior Victoria Matthews (Abington) was named to the USTFCCCA Division II All-Region accolades in the pentathlon for the first time. Her final point total of 3096 placed fifth in the region and fourth at the PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The total was a personal best for Matthews and ranks sixth all-time in program history.
Shippensburg senior Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) finished fifth in the 5K with a time of 18:2817 at the PSAC Indoor Championships. Redshirt sophomore Dior Alston (Cheltenham) placed seventh in the 400-meter dash for the second time, completing her run in 59.13 seconds.
Alston and Kayla Gonzalez (Hatboro-Horsham) earned PSAC All-Atlantic Region honors as part of Shippensburg’s 4×400 relay that posted a time of 3:56.85.

Ursinus sophomores Michela Coleman (Wissahickon) and Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) were part of the runner-up 4x400m relay that posted a time of 4:05.69 at the Centennial Conference Championships last weekend. The Coleman twins were part of the winning sprint relay that posted a time of 1:48.92. Molly Rodebaugh (Central Bucks West) posted a new personal best and good for eighth overall with a time of 8.37 in the 60m sprint.
Duquesne senior Shannon Taub (Council Rock South) was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the 2019 A-10 Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend. Taub earned a second place finish in the heptathlon, shattering the school and meet record with a score of 3,812. She won the high jump (1.71m), long jump (95.59m) and shot put (12.84m) in the heptathlon to go with a silver-medal showing in the high jump (1.65m) as well as the triple jump (12.10m). She added a fifth-place mark in the shot put (13.22m) for the Dukes.
Taub also was named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Field Performer of the Week for the week ending Feb. 17 for her performance at the Kent State Tune-up. Taub paced the Dukes with a pair of first place finishes in the long jump (5.57 meters) and the triple jump (12.10 meters). Her mark in the triple jump is the second best jump in school history in indoor track and field. Taub sits first in the A-10 this indoor season in the pentathlon (3,757), third in the high jump (1.68 meters), third in the triple jump (12.10 meters), fifth in the shot put (13.29 meters) and eighth in the long jump (5.62 meters).
Monmouth University senior Brianna Stratz (Central Bucks South) qualified to compete in the 1000-meter run at the U.S. National Indoor Championships. Stratz was the MAAC champion in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09 and was a part of the winning 4×800 relay team that posted a time of 9:03.06. Amber Stratz (Central Bucks South) finished sixth in the mile with a time of 4:57.16. Allison Taub (Council Rock South) placed second in the shot put with a mark of 46’8”.

Brad Nase (Pennridge) had 27 assists in Messiah’s 3-1 loss to Arcadia on Saturday. Later in the day, Messiah bounced back to defeat Elizabethtown 3-2 with Nase contributing 19 assists. In Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to No. 6 Stevenson University, Nase delivered 25 assists. In last Saturday’s 3-2 win over Alvernia, Nase dished out 49 assists. In Messiah’s 3-0 win over Eastern University, Nase led the Falcons’ offense with 28 assists.
WRESTLING
York College senior Dylan Nuttall (Harry S Truman) earned a bid to the national championships in Roanoke, Va., on March 8 and 9. The Harry S Truman graduate gritted his way to his second straight national championship appearance after finishing third in the region at 125. Nuttall dropped his semifinal match to eventual regional champion Josiah Gehr from Messiah, meaning he had to win out to make it to nationals. Nutall pinned Lycoming’s Shane Casey to advance to the third place match and won 10-3 in convincing fashion over Ferrum’s Jalen White to clinch his berth for the second straight season. On the first day of the Southeast Regional Tournament, Nuttall started the day off with a dominating performance when he pinned Penn State Benrend’s Michael Benni in 5:30 and followed that up with another strong bout, winning via major decision by a 9-0 score against King’s College Dakota Quick. In No. 23 York’s 31-15 victory over Gettysburg, senior Jesse Huber (Harry S Truman) cruised to a 17-1 tech fall at the 5:10 mark at 197 pounds.
Kutztown senior Jeff Reimel (North Penn) remained unbeaten on the season, capturing the title at 184 in the NCAA Division II Super Region I Championships. He advanced to the semifinals with a 1:00 pin of Shippensburg’s Ryan Narber. In the semifinals, he downed Gannon’s Joe Leise, 10-4, in the semifinals and roared past Pitt-Johnstown’s Brock Biddle 9-2 in the championship bout. Reimel will be making his third consecutive trip to nationals after an All-American fifth place showing at 184 pounds last spring.
