BASEBALL
La Salle freshman Jared Melone (North Penn) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team. Melone led the team with a .321 batting average (54-for-168), 13 doubles and 23 runs scored. The North Penn graduate hit safely in his final nine games and had 16 multi-hit games on the year.
St. Joseph’s junior reliever Ryan Kelly (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team. Kelly posted a 2.19 earned run average and eight saves in a team-high 23 appearances this season. He fanned 32 batters against just 10 walks while holding opposing hitters to a .169 average during the regular season. Those numbers got even better in Atlantic 10 play as Kelly allowed just one run and four hits in 11.1 innings across 10 appearances, good for a 0.79 ERA and an opponents’ average of just .111.
Monmouth University junior Ricky Dennis (Central Bucks South) was named the MAAC Pitcher of the Year and was also named to the All-MAAC First team. Dennis is the sixth Pitcher of the Year in program history and the first since Monmouth joined the MAAC. He led the MAAC with eight wins and posted a 3.78 ERA in 14 starts, including wins over ranked opponents in No. 8 Virginia and No. 17 East Carolina. Dennis struck out 56 batters and walked just 21 in 78.2 innings, completing four games and tossing two shutouts.
Sophomore Justin Andrews (Neshaminy) recorded a six-out save and allowed just one baserunner after Dennis kept the Hawks in it, throwing seven innings in Monmouth’s 9-6 win over Marist in the MAAC Tournament on Thursday.
East Stroudsburg redshirt junior shortstop Conner Crookham (Hatboro-Horsham) earned a spot on the
ABCA Division II Atlantic All-Region second team. A first team All-PSAC East selection at a shortstop, Crookham hit .357 with an on-base percentage of .448 and a .669 slugging percentage with 56 hits (15 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs), 54 RBIs, 46 runs, 26 walks, four HBP and 5-for-6 on stolen bases. His .669 slugging percentage is eighth highest in a season in program history. In two seasons at ESU after transferring from Old Dominion, he is hitting .384/.457/.700 with 40 extra-base hits (16 home runs), 77 RBIs and 72 runs in 74 career games.
Crookham was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in East Stroudsburg’s 3-1 loss to Shepherd in the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional last Sunday. The loss marked the end of a record-setting season for the Warriors, who set a school record for wins (38) and finished with a 2-2 record in the regional. He was named to the NCAA Tournament All-Atlantic Regional team, batting .357/.412/.714 in four games (5-for-14, 3 doubles, triple, walk, HBP, sacrifice fly, 1-for-1 stolen bases, 6 RBIs, 3 runs). He also earned a save, striking out two and walking one in one inning in ESU’s 3-0 win over Seton Hill.
Penn State Abington sophomore Matt Meyers (Cheltenham) was named to the 2016 Mid-Atlantic ABCA/Rawlings All-Region third team after earning NEAC first team honors. Meyers broke the record for single season doubles with 19 for the season, tied for sixth in Division III baseball. Meyers dominated at the plate with the highest batting average in a season for the Nittany Lions with a .446 average. In his second year for the Blue and White, Meyers had a batting average of .429.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Cabrini senior Chris Schneekloth (Central Bucks East) earned Division II 2016 USILA/Nike All-America honorable mention recognition. The CB East graduate ranked as one of the nation’s most dominant faceoff specialists in 2016. The senior collected victories in 0.695 of his chances at the spot, eighth in Division III. Schneekoth also corralled 114 ground balls on the year, fourth on Cabrini’s single season list, while pairing four goals and four assists. Schneekloth’s 334 career faceoff wins, .679 win percentage and 172 ground balls rank among the top six on the program’s all-time lists.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Saint Joseph’s senior defender Caroline Hagan (Hatboro-Horsham) has been selected to play in the
Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game. Hagan will represent the Hawks as a member of the Division One North Team roster on Saturday, June 4. The opening draw at Cabrini College in Radnor is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Only seniors who have exhausted their lacrosse playing eligibility are permitted to participate. A 2016 Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selection, Hagan led the Hawks and ranked second in the Atlantic 10 Conference with 29 turnovers, which ranks fourth all-time in single-season caused turnovers on Hawk Hill. The Hatboro-Horsham graduate also ranked second on the squad with 37 ground balls as the full 19-game starter and anchor of SJU’s defensive unit. Hagan combined for seven ground balls – including five against then #16 UMass – in the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament. Hagan capped her career on May 6 as SJU’s program record holder in career caused turnovers (83) to go with 101 career ground balls in 64 appearances – which ties for eighth all time – and 52 starts on the back line. Hagan graduated from Saint Joseph’s earlier this month with a degree in accounting. The Division II North-South Game will follow the D1 game at 12:45 p.m., followed by the Division III North-South Game at 2 p.m.
University of California senior Michele DeVincent (Upper Dublin) was named to the 2016 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team for the third straight year. The MPSF awarded academic honors based on the following criteria: 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average, student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically, student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received and student-athlete must have competed in 50 percent or more of the institution’s competition in his or her respective sport.
Louisville senior Cortnee Daley (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the South team for the 2016
North-South All-Star game. Daley ranked second on the team with 50 points, scoring 40 goals and 10 assists. She also led the team in caused turnovers with 20 and ranks second on the team in ground balls with 32. Daley has tallied eight hat tricks this season, including three game-winning goals. For her career, Daley scored 154 goals and dished out 23 assists. She finished the year earning second team All-ACC honors and first team IWLCA All-Region honors. The Senior All-Star game will take place at Cabrini College on Saturday, June 4, 11:30 a.m. The game will be followed by the DII All-Star game at 12:45 and the DIII All-Star game at 2 p.m. Admission is free to all three games.
SOFTBALL
Lehigh senior third baseman Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) has named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America third team. A four-time All-Patriot League selection and one of the most accomplished hitters and run producers in Lehigh history, Decker recently completed a stellar academic career, graduating with a 3.73
grade point average and a degree in behavioral neuroscience. The Academic All-American award comes less than a month after Decker was named Academic All-District for the second time in her Lehigh career. The Academic All-American teams are voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Decker’s 3.73 cumulative GPA included a perfect 4.0 in the 2015 fall semester. She made Lehigh’s Dean’s List (GPA over 3.6) in six of her first seven semesters and has appeared on the Patriot League’s Academic Honor Roll following each of her first three seasons. Decker was also selected to the Academic All-Patriot League in all three years she was eligible. Off the field, Decker was also active in Lehigh’s Athletics Department as a Student-Athlete Mentor, where she helped first-year student-athletes face the challenge of balancing athletics and academics. She participated in every phase of the Lehigh Athletics Leadership Academy and for several years and was active in the Lehigh chapter of Student-Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC). As a junior, Decker won a pair of prestigious University Awards: the Class of 1904 Award and the Contribution to Student Life Award. Earlier this month, Decker received the University’s Student Life Leadership Award. Decker also was honored with Lehigh Athletics’ Distinguished Achievement Award and won the newly-named Karen A. Adams Award, given to Lehigh’s outstanding graduating female athlete. She was recently named to the NFCA Mid-Atlantic Region second team. It was her third all-region recognition in four years after becoming a four-time All-Patriot League selection. Decker started all 52 games for the Mountain Hawks in 2016 and started all but two games in her decorated career. In a torrid start to her senior season, Decker drove in eight runs in her first two games and spent most of the year above .400 before finishing at .382. Decker led the Patriot League with a .511 on-base percentage, 33 walks and tied for the league lead with six home runs. Her 16 doubles, 36 RBIs and .618 slugging percentage also ranked among the Patriot League leaders. She previously earned all-region honors in 2013 and 2014 when she collected her two Patriot League Player of the Year awards. Decker was also the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2013. Earlier this year, Decker became Lehigh’s career leader in home runs when she hit her 26th in a win over Albany on March 6. Decker finished with 28 home runs and also holds the Patriot League’s career walks record with 121. Her 161 career RBIs ranks third in school and league annals, four short of the record. The Mountain Hawks finished the 2016 season 36-16 and won their fifth consecutive Patriot League regular season championship. Lehigh reached the 30-win mark for the 16th consecutive season and went 5-for-6 in 11 games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. A four-year starter at third base and a two-year captain, Decker was one of the key cogs for a Lehigh team that averaged nearly 36 wins per year over her four seasons.
Penn State Abington sophomore Becca Dougherty (Council Rock South) was selected as the NEAC
South Rookie of the Year. Dougherty was tremendous in her first collegiate season, helping the Nittany Lions qualify for the postseason with both her bat and her arm. Dougherty batted .327 on 32 hits, which included the second most doubles in the NEAC with 13. She also drove in 25 runs, scored 13 more and struck out just 10 times in 111 plate appearnaces to collect 45 total bases in 34 games. Dougherty also made 15 pitching appearances, starting 11 contests and recording eight wins with 10 complete games, three shutouts and 46 strikeouts against just nine walks through 78.1 innings for a 2.59 ERA. Dougherty, who also posted a .980 fielding percentage, was named to the All-Conference First Team as well.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Shippensburg senior Jalen Ramsey (Norristown) cleared 6 feet, 8 ¾ inches, placing 13th at the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bradentown, Fla. Ramsey was faced with the unfortunate situation of having to jump late and in quick succession after initially being skipped due to clerical confusion. Ramsey was competing at outdoor nationals for the first time since he placed 11th in 2014 by clearing the same height.
La Salle junior Chris Sanders (Upper Merion) ran the third fastest time in the 800m at the NCAA Quarterfinals, advancing to the NCAA Semifinals at the University of Oregon from June 9-11. His time of 1:46.65 broke his own school record of 1:47.78 set earlier this season at Princeton. All three of the fastest 800 times were in Sanders’ heat. Brandon McBride of Mississippi State won the heat in 1:44.89, followed by Penn State’s Isaiah Harris in 1:46.52. He becomes the first Explorer to reach the NCAA Semifinals since 2014. Sanders is the ninth Explorer male to reach the NCAA Semifinals and the first in the 800m.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Alvernia College junior Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) was named USTFCCCA Division III Outdoor Track & Field All-Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association. Athletes named to the all-region team must be ranked in the top five of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data. Roberts, who sits sixth nationally in the shot put, recently claimed her spot with her record day at the ECAC Championships. Taking silver in the women’s shot put, Roberts hit a distance of 14.12m, setting a personal and program record with the mark. Roberts highest finish of the year came at the MAC Championships where she took gold. Roberts competed in the 2016 NCAA Outdoor track and Field Championships.
