MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Cairn University junior Joel Varughese (Bensalem) finished first with a time of 28:23.3 at the 2018 Moravian and Cedar Crest XC Invite on Saturday. Trevor Hickey (Quakertown) finished sixth with a time of 29:58.9. In last Saturday’s LVC Dutchmen Invitational, Varughese finished 20th with a time 18:00.34. Hickey posted a time of 29:29.96 to finish 44th.
Bucknell sophomore Connor McMenamin (Souderton) finished sixth with a time of 20:46 on the four-mile course at the Detroit Mercy Invitational last Saturday.
Gettysbury sophomore Dylan McKeever (Central Bucks East) finished 44th with a time of 28:43 at the 11-team Kutztown Division II/Division III Challenge on Saturday. In last Friday’s 53rd annual Little Three Meet at Gettysburg, McKeever posted a time of 16:35 on the 5,000-meter course.
Penn State Abington freshman Ben Hoyer (Wissahickon) finished in fourth place for the Nittany Lions with a 5.33 pace per mile in the 8K at the Lancaster Bible Preview on Saturday. In last weekend’s Lions Invitational at Bryn Athyn, Hoyer finished in first place on the 4K course with a time of 13:36.0. Sophomore Dominic Pignatelli (Central Bucks South) finished ninth with a time of 16:19.1, and freshman David Hunt (William Tennent) posted a time of 17:01.3 and finished 11th.
Holy Family freshman Sean Rahill (William Tennent) was the team’s top finisher for the third straight week at the annual Bill Fritz Invitational hosted by Rowan University on Saturday. Rahill finished 79th overall out of 245 runners with a time of 28:58.35 on the 8K course. At last weekend’s Philly Metro Classic, Rahill finished fourth overall out of 135 competitors with a time of 27:57.5 over the 8K course and set a new season best.
Rahill was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week for the weeks of Sept. 3 and Sept. 10. In his first collegiate race, Rahill finished first overall at the 18th annual Wilmington University Invite in Delaware. He finished the 8K course in 28:31.45 to secure the win, 24 seconds faster than the rest of the field. The following week he finished fourth at the Philly Metro Classic with a time of 27:57.5.
St. Joseph University freshman Ben Bunch (Central Bucks West) finished 51st with a time of 21:20.5 at the Haverford Main Line Invitational on Friday. In last Friday’s 2018 Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational, sophomore Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks East) finished as SJU’s number seven runner, posting a time of 27:06 to finish 32nd overall.
Ursinus juniorLogan Mazullo (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 29:51.7 at the Division II/III Challenge hosted by Kutztown University on Saturday.
Jefferson University’s Josh Skinner (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 29:49.8 at the 23-team Bill Fritz Invitational on Saturday. At last weekend’s 15-team Philadelphia Metropolitan Invitational, Skinner finished 42nd out of 135 runners with a time of 30:27.6 at the 15-team Philadelphia Metropolitan Invitational
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Cairn University freshman Julia Markey (Souderton) finished 13th with a time of 32:09.7 at the 2018 Moravian and Cedar Crest XC Invite Saturday.
Gettysburg senior Danielle DeMichael (Central Bucks East) took 67th with a time of 27:08 at the 10-team Kutztown DII/DIII Challenge on Saturday. In last Friday’s 53rd annual Little Three Meet at Gettysburg, DeMichael placed 19th with a time of 21:17.8.
Penn State Abington senior Claire Reeves (Central Bucks South) placed 35th with a pace of 8:39 per mile in the women’s 6K in the Lancaster Bible College Preview. At the Lions Invitational at Bryn Athyn, Reeves was the first Nittany Lion to pass the finish line in ninth overall with a time of 21:29.
Holy Family freshman Victoria Reid (Bensalem) finished 96th with a time of 27:48.0 at the annual Bill Fritz Invitational hosted by Rowan University on Saturday. At the Wilmington Invite, Reid finished 15th overall in her collegiate debut, posting a time of 23:19.29.
Ursinus College senior Riley Engel (Council Rock North) served as the pacesetter for the Bears at the Division II/III Challenge at Kutztown University on Saturday. Engel led the Bears for the second meet in a row, finishing 45th with a mark of 26:05.00.
Junior Maria Antoni (Upper Moreland) paced Shippensburg as the No. 1 runner for the first time in her career, placing 10th with a time of 23:33 at the Doug Watts Invitational hosted by Edinboro last Saturday. It was her first cross country race in nearly a year for the Raiders. Senior Lindsey Gerlach (Central Bucks West) was 15th in 23:50, and senior Jackie Kinkead (Central Bucks East) placed 19th with a time of 24:08.
Kutztown freshman Lynne O’Connor (William Tennent) was the third KU runner and 30th overall with a time of 25;22.5 at the Division II/III Cross Country Challenge on Saturday on KU’s home course.
West Chester junior Tara McLaughlin (North Penn) crossed the line in 24:46.5 (over one minute faster than 2017) to place 18th in the Division II/III Challenge hosted by Kutztown University on Saturday.
FIELD HOCKEY
Anna Lehman (Council Rock North) scored a goal in Lehigh University’s 3-2 loss to Lafayette on Friday.
Sophomore Erin Chioffe (Central Bucks South) scored her team’s lone goal in DeSales University’s 2-1 loss to William Patterson on Saturday. In DeSales University’s 4-1 win over Muhlenberg, Chioffe scored a pair of goals.
Christen Pennington (Neshaminy) scored a goal in Villanova’s 5-2 victory over Georgetown on Friday. The win snapped the Hoyas’ five-game winning streak. In last Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Sacred Heart, Emily Cliggett (Central Bucks South) scored her second goal of the season. In Villanova’s 2-1 loss to Penn, Emma McLaughlin (Quakertown) scored the Wildcats’ only goal.
Junior Erin Saybolt (Souderton) scored a goal, and senior keeper Jules Singer (Council Rock North) made two saves in Ursinus College’s 7-2 win over McDaniel on Saturday in its Centennial Conference opener. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Elizabethtown, Singer notched the 10th shutout of her career. In the Bears’ 4-0 win over William Smith last Saturday, Saybolt scored her first goal of the season, and Singer recorded four saves.
Sophomore Mia Sexton (Neshaminy) scored on a corner, and junior Becky Gerhart (Quakertown) made a defensive save in Temple’s 3-2 win over Lafayette last Friday.
Sophomore Amber Blackshear (North Penn) scored a goal in La Salle’s 3-2 loss to Georgetown on Sunday. In the Explorers’ 3-1 win over Central Michigan, Blackshear contributed an assist.
Victoria Byrne (Plymouth Whitemarsh) stopped a pair of shots in the second half of Widener’s 3-0 win over Immaculata on Thursday. In last Saturday’s 5-4 win over Wilkes in a shootout, Sam Scoma (Wissahickon) tallied her first goal of the season.
FOOTBALL
Malcolm Carey (Bensalem) led the ground attack with 64 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in Alvernia’s 49-14 loss to FDU-Florham on Saturday. Mike Schoenleber (Wissahickon) had four tackles and two pass break-ups.
Junior cornerback JR Stevens (Neshaminy) was named IUP Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 9. Stevens helped the fourth-ranked IUP football team to a 41-7 win over Millersville with a pair of interceptions, including one returned 80 yards for a touchdown. The score came midway through the second quarter – Stevens jumped a route and raced down the right sideline for the score. It was his second career pick-six. The 80-yarder is the seventh longest interception return in IUP history. It was also Stevens’ third career two-interception game.
Freshman Owen Thomas (North Penn) recorded his first career sack in Villanova’s 31-9 win over Lehigh last Saturday.
Redshirt junior Eric Dzieniszewski (Quakertown) posted a career-high 11 tackles in Shippensburg’s 25-21 win over Slippery Rock last Saturday. Redshirt senior Josh Lister (Souderton) had a pair of sacks, and Luke Durkin (Central Bucks West) scored on a one-yard plunge.
Junior Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) completed 17-of-24 passes for 237 yards in Ursinus College’s 35-14 win over Juniata on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 42-7 win over Gettysburg, Garlick had a pair of touchdown passes and reached a personal milestone. The Quakertown graduate tossed two touchdown passes in a four-minute span early in the second quarter as the Bears overcame a 7-0 deficit. Garlick, who completed 20-of-33 passes for 315 yards, eclipsed the 4,000-yard mark for his career, the eighth quarterback in school history to reach that benchmark. Junior Stacey Gardner (Upper Dublin) had 63 yards on nine carries.
Branden Mack (Cheltenham) had a pair of touchdown receptions in Temple’s 36-29 loss to Buffalo last Saturday. He also blocked a Buffalo punt that was recovered by Ty Mason in the end zone for a touchdown.
Vince Char (William Tennent) had three tackles and his first sack of the season in Widener’s 36-35 loss to Misericordia on Saturday.
Junior quarterback Michael Marino (Wissahickon) completed 11-of-32 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown in Chestnut Hill’s 45-7 loss to the Black Knights of Army in its 2018 Collegiate Sprint Football League season opener on Friday.
Kutztown senior running back Craig Reynolds (Abington) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 2. This is Reynolds’ fifth career PSAC Athlete of the Week award. Reynolds, who missed the final three games of last season due to injury, started his senior year with 107 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns in KU’s 32-28 win over No. 17 Assumption College. After Assumption took the lead with less than 5:00 to play, Reynolds had a 36-yard kick return to set KU up with good field position and capped the drive with the game-winning three-yard touchdown run. Including the late game-winner, Reynolds also ran for a 77-yard touchdown in the first half. It was the longest run of his career and KU’s longest since a school record 98-yard run by Terry Williams in 2015. Reynolds tied Williams for sixth in school history with 22 career rushing touchdowns. A two-time All-PSAC East and All-Region running back, Reynolds ranks on 11 career leaderboards at KU and holds the single-game records for rushing and all-purpose yards. In 31 career games, he has 339 rushes for 1,934 yards and 22 touchdowns. He has more than 1,000 career receiving yards and has 3,781 all-purpose yards.
Reynolds had in a career-high 148 receiving yards and two touchdowns on nine catches in Kutztown’s 48-33 road victory at Gannon University on Saturday. His longest was a 71-yard catch-and-run in the first half to account for nearly half of his yardage. Reynolds also ran for a 60-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal KU’s victory. He ran for 80 yards on seven carries and has eight touchdowns on the year. He jumped four spots to ninth in school history with 2,099 career rushing yards. In last Saturday’s 34-31 win over California University (Pa.), Reynolds ran for a game-high three touchdowns and eclipsed 2,000 career rushing yards with 85. He is the 13th player in school history to run for 2,000 and moves into fifth in school history with 23 career rushing touchdowns. Senior defensive end Adam Krauter (Springfield Township) stepped up in his first start of the season with a sack around the edge to force a Vulcan punt.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Led by the even-par finish of Penn State senior Jackie Rogowicz (Pennsbury), the Penn State women’s golf team secured a tie for 11th place in a weather-shortened Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.
West Chester senior Juliarose Genuardi (North Penn) shot an 83 to tie for 22nd at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic. At the Evann Parker Memorial Invitational, Genuardi finished in a tie for 11th with a two-day score of 168 (78-90).
MEN’S SOCCER
Cameron Sheva (Pennridge) scored his team’s only goal in Elizabethtown’s 5-1 loss at Franklin and Marshall on Wednesday.
Sophomore John Griffin (Pennsbury) scored a goal 80 seconds after the opening whistle in Cabrini’s 1-1 tie with Cairn University on Saturday.
Freshman Billy Hanratty (William Tennent) scored a goal in the 53rd minute in Albright’s 4-3 loss to Marywood on Saturday. Brendan Hanratty (William Tennent) recorded seven saves in goal. In last Saturday’s 2-2 tie with Wilson, Billy Hanratty scored his first collegiate goal in the 11th minute. Brendan Hanratty recorded his second straight double-digit save total with 12.
Penn State Abington freshman Sebastian Perkowski (Pennridge) was named the NEAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 9. In his first ever collegiate appearance, Perkowski collected two goals against Bryn Athyn. The freshman forward struck in the 19th minute of the first half and later in the second half to help the Nittany Lions secure a 5-0 win. To close out the week, Perkowski continued to stay hot, scoring the game-winning goal in the Nittany Lions’ 3-2 overtime win over Penn College.
Tomasz Ogonowski (Central Bucks East) and Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin) both scored a goal in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 win over Penn State Berks on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Penn State Brandywine, Ogonowski scored a goal. In the Nittany Lions’ 3-2 OT win over Penn College, Perkowski scored the game-winner in overtime. Palomeque scored his second goal of the season earlier in the game. In the Nittany Lions’ 5-0 win over Bryn Athyn, Perkowski scored a pair of goals and Palomeque also connected for his first goal of the season.
Senior Cole Kropnick (Wissahickon) scored his fifth goal of the season with a highlight-reel bicycle kick that propelled Shippensburg to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Salem on Tuesday. In the 75th minute, senior Devlin Mettee (Neshaminy) had a side throw-in that sailed over two players and into open space in the box. Kropnick allowed the ball to travel to him and unleashed a bicycle kick into the right upper 90 for the match’s decisive strike. In Shippensburg’s 5-1 win over Nyack, Kropnick and junior Colin Marks (Pennsbury) each scored a goal.
Senior Gersi Hoxha (Upper Dublin) netted his first career goal on a free kick in the 85th minute in Gwynedd Mercy’s 5-1 loss to Penn State Brandywine.
Widener sophomore Nick Lefevre (William Tennent) was named the MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 2. Lefevre posted a pair of goals and an assist to total five points to lead the Pride to a 2-0 start. In a season-opening 3-2 win over Penn State Abington, LeFevre scored the game-winning goal in the 26th minute. The sophomore then added an insurance goal and an assist on the game-winner in a 2-0 win over Cabrini.
Lafayette transfer Evan Vare (Central Bucks East) – who missed the season’s first four games – was in the lineup No. 13 Villanova’s 3-0 loss to Marquette.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cheyenne Scott (Souderton) contributed an assist in Lebanon Valley’s 4-1 win over Marywood.
Senior midfielder Megan Engeland (Pennsbury) converted a penalty kick in Washington and Lee’s 3-2 win over Salisbury last Sunday. Her PK goal gave her 29 in her career, which moves Engeland into a tie for 10th on the program’s all-time goals list. In last Saturday’s 4-0 win over Franklin & Marshall, Engeland scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick.

Senior goalkeeper Grace Bendon (Central Bucks West) set a new program record for victories and rookie Aleksa Peev (Central Bucks South) tallied the match’s lone goal in St. Joseph University’s 1-0 win over Cornell on Sunday. Making her 36th straight start in net for SJU, Bendon posted her second clean sheet on the season for her 24th career win, passing the previous mark of 23 set by Allison Ebling. Peev scored the game-winner midway through the second half. In last Sunday’s 5-1 victory over Bucknell, Bendon matched the all-time mark for wins with 23. Peev scored on a corner kick, and Bendon made six saves.
Holy Family University senior Bree Rock (Bensalem) and freshman Jacqueline Ziegler (Neshaminy) were both selected to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Sept. 3. Holy Family opened its season versus Lincoln University, and the Tigers exploded for eight goals. Rock and Ziegler
accounted for four of the team’s goals in the shutout victory. Rock scored both of her goals in the opening half with back-to-back scores in the 13th and 14th minutes. Ziegler capped the first half scoring with a goal in the 26th minute as the Tigers led 4-0 at the half. She then scored late in the second half, tallying the team’s final goal of the game. Rock and Ziegler each recorded an assist in the game as both players finished with five points in the first game of the season.
Rock was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 9. Rock helped lead the Tigers to a 2-0-0 week versus conference opponents. Rock scored the game-winning goal in Holy Family’s 2-1 win over Jefferson, connecting for a goal in the 52nd minute to break the 1-1 tie. She followed that with another game-winning score against Nyack. Her first goal of the game trimmed Nyack’s lead to 2-1 in the 50th minute. In the second overtime period, Rock connected on a shot from the far right side that went over the Nyack goalkeeper for the winning score in the 104th minute, giving Holy Family the 3-2 win. After four games, Rock led the CACC in goals with five and was tied for the conference lead in total points with 12.
Senior Alyssa Christiansen (William Tennent) scored her first goal of the season in Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Post University on Saturday. Senior Bree Rock (Bensalem) contributed an assist. In Monday’s 3-2 overtime win over Queens, Christiansen and Rock each had an assist. In last Saturday’s 3-2 overtime win over Nyack, Rock scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner. Freshman Alayna McSeed (Bensalem) earned her first career victory in net. McSeed entered the game in the second half and held Nyack scoreless in 58:39 minutes of work. She also recorded the first three saves of her career as well. In Holy Family’s 2-1 win over Jefferson University, Ziegler connected on her third goal of the season, and Rock tallied the eventual game-winner. Christiansen contributed an assist on Rock’s goal.

In the Nittany Lions’ 3-3 tie with Bryn Athyn, sophomore Teresa Barker (William Tennent) scored the first goal of the season after a corner kick. Junior Haley Miller (North Penn) scored her first goal of the season.
Freshman Kelsey Butler (Pennsbury) scored her first collegiate goal and junior Emily Discavage (Council Rock South) also scored a goal in Jefferson University’s 3-2 loss to Nyack on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 5-1 win over Dominican, Discavage scored a goal.
Victoria Braeunle (North Penn) and Amanda Credidio (Bensalem) each scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-2 tie with John Jay last Saturday. The goal was the first of Credidio’s collegiate career. Goalie Kelsey Hopkins (William Tennent) recorded 10 saves.
Savanna Harrison (Pennridge) tallied two shots and Alyssa Ryan (Wissahickon) had a point-blank chance in front of the net that was saved in 16th-ranked Kutztown's 1-0 win over California University (Pa.) on Saturday. In KU's 1-0 win over Gannon, Ryan, a two-year captain, showed her leadership by scoring the game’s only goal. Ryan gave the Golden Bears the lead with her second goal in as many games and second of the season. Her 15th-minute strike from inside the 18-yard box came off a cross into the box. In KU’s 2-0 win at Lock Haven, Ryan scored a goal. Katrina Miller (North Penn), who started her fourth straight game at center back, helped to anchor the defense in the shutout win.
McKenna Mullin (Neshaminy) made three saves on seven shots to keep Clarion off the board in West Chester’s 3-0 win last Saturday. In West Chester’s 3-0 win over Wilmington, Mullin recorded three saves. Nikki Caffey (Council Rock South) scored her second goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
Junior Nicole Abbott (Plymouth Whitemarsh) needed only 24:04 to notch the first hat trick of her collegiate career as she scored half of East Stroudsburg’s six goals in a 6-1 road win at IUP on Saturday. Abbott added an assist midway through the second half for the Warriors, who avenged a 1-0 home loss to the Crimson Hawks last season. She becomes the 15th player in program history to record a hat trick (first since 2016), and her seven points are tied for the fifth most in a single game all-time at ESU.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Meghan Moyer (Neshaminy) was part of the first doubles team that earned a 7-6 win after taking the tiebreaker 7-4 in Holy Family University’s 4-3 win over Caldwell on Saturday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Cairn University outside hitter Haley Sheehan (Quakertown) was named to the all-tournament team at the Elizabethtown Invitational this weekend. In Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Gwynedd University, Sheehan had nine kills and 13 digs. In last Saturday’s 3-0 win over New Jersey City University, Sheehan had nine kills.
Senior Sam Jones (Hatboro-Horsham) had 10 digs in Kent State’s 3-1 win over Cleveland State on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Santa Clara, Jones had 10 digs. In last Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Rider, Jones contributed 19 digs.
