District 1 3A third place
No. 14 Council Rock North 1, #4 Council Rock South 0
In yet another matchup of the neighboring rivals, it was Rock North edging Rock South in Thursday’s third place game.
Both teams were coming off losses in Tuesday’s district semifinal round, and with only state seeding at stake and exhaustion setting in after emotional games 48 hours earlier, Thursday’s contest might not have matched the
intensity of the regular season meetings between the two teams, but it was still a big win for North.
“Really proud of the group and the way we navigated the last few weeks of the season,” North coach Gavin Flannigan said. “They’ve adapted to our game plans and worked hard to finish third in the district and now on to states.
“A really nice way to bounce back today after a tough loss on Tuesday at Downingtown West.”
Bella Lanza scored the game’s only goal, benefitting from a Jules Spiewak assist in the first half.

Council Rock North coach Gavin Flannigan:
–The game: “Anytime we play South, it’s always a difficult contest. Today I think both teams were a little fatigued after Tuesday’s efforts, so the game lacked the intensity of our usual contests.
“South was better early, but we grew into the game and scored when Bella Lanza connected on a corner from Jules Spiewak.
“The second half was more back and forth, but neither team could find a goal and it finished 1-0.”
Up next: Council Rock North will face District 11 champion Nazareth in Wednesday’s opening round of the PIAA 3A State Tournament. Nazareth defeated Parkland 2-1 in Thursday’s title game. Council Rock South will face District 2 champion Crestwood in Wednesday’s state opener.

District 1 4A fifth place game
No. 7 Downingtown East 2, #12 Souderton 0
Souderton came oh-so-close to earning a state berth but came up short to the fifth-seeded Cougars in Thursday’s fifth place game with only the winner advancing.
“Unfortunately, an incredible run from this program came to an end today,” Souderton coach Melissa Lollar said. “I have to give so much credit to these players for what they have done with this program.
“These juniors and seniors specifically came into a losing program, not making playoffs at all and are leaving it finishing sixth in the district. This group of young ladies have represented Souderton well and should be proud of themselves.”
The Cougars scored a goal in each half while the Big Red never could find the net.
Lollar bids farewell to a special senior class.
“We are incredibly grateful for our seniors Julia Purvy, Lily Heron, Hannah Beckett, Kylie Cummings, Maddie Moreland, and Kait Richart for everything they gave to this program,” the Big Red coach said. “I am certain they will be successful with anything that they do.”
