District 1 3A seventh place
#13 CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 4, #11 PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3 (OT)
The Titans saved their best for last Thursday, rallying from a 3-1 deficit entering the fourth quarter to knot the score and then eking out the win in overtime when Jenna Butler scored with 5:22 remaining.
“In the last quarter, we were down, and I just looked at our seniors and our leadership and said, ‘We win this and we host, we get to wear our black uniforms another time. We need everyone to put themselves into this quarter,’” South coach Steph Bardell said. “Our team came out flying from the first touch, and they didn’t let up. We knew getting to overtime was where we wanted to be. With our backs against the wall, our captains led us in the circle.
“We believe: we are a large squad, 41 deep and we know we believe in each other and push each other to make sure to bring everything when our backs are up against a wall.”
Emily Aldrich and Amy Hazell scored back-to-back goals within a two-minute span midway through the fourth quarter to even the score, setting the stage for Butler’s game-winner in OT.
Earlier, the Colonials took a 1-0 lead when Kayleigh Boland scored on a tip of a Gracie Kerns shot five minutes into the first quarter. That lead stood until the third quarter when the scoring action began in earnest.
Emily Aldrich evened the score at one apiece when she scored just over a minute into the second half, but two minutes later, Jules Scherzer scored to put the Colonials back on top. Boland’s second goal midway through the quarter – on a tip of a Quinn Burns shot – sent the Colonials into the final quarter with a 3-1 lead that turned out to be anything but secure.
“We stay in the dance,” Bardell said. “Kudos to PW on their jump start. Also, a great season for those players, it was a fantastic game all around!”

Central Bucks South coach Steph Bardell:
“(It) took our team a quarter to adjust, and then in the second, we took control of the pressure and made sure we attacked as a unit.
“We adjusted our attack and we were able to move the ball differently and control the game better which proved to be what was needed.
“I fully trust these players on the field, as coaches we gave them the tools to succeed at this point in the season when our overtime team sees something it’s important to trust them and let them feel the flow of the game. That’s what our staff did tonight.
“We will see everyone at Titan Stadium Saturday!”
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Charise Young:
“Kayleigh Boland scored the first goal of the game with a beautiful tip off a Gracie Kerns shot at the 10:08 mark of the first quarter. The rest of the first half was a tightly contested match.
“Earning some offensive corners early in the third quarter gave PW a 3-1 lead. Julz Scherzer finished past the goalkeeper on the post off of a Gracie Kerns cross ball at the 11:59 mark, and Kayleigh Boland scored her second of the game getting another tip off of a hard shot by Quinn Burns at the 7:15 mark.
“CB South came out with intensity in the fourth quarter, and our defense struggled to maintain its composure, giving up two goals at the 9:27 and 7:49 marks which sent the game into overtime where CB South would score with 5:22 left in the overtime period.”
Up next: Central Bucks South is scheduled to host District 12’s first place team, Northeast, in a regional contest Saturday (2pm). Plymouth Whitemarsh closed out its season with a 16-6 record and a share of the SOL Liberty Division crown.
